Hugo Boss the Scent Absolute EDP opens with a moderate projection of very sweet, spicy, and fruity notes. The opening is delicious, fruity, projecting, and very pleasant. The Maninka fruit is the most prominent note, in this fragrance, this note can be described as syrupy sweet, dense, sugary, dried fruits-like, with a mild leathery touch that makes it very projecting. The ginger is the second most noticeable note, spicy, sharp, fresh, with a faint cinnamon-like touch. The vetiver is a faint almost unnoticeable accord, overpowered by the strength of the Maninka fruit. The fragrance has some opening to dry-down changes, the opening has a fresh citrusy touch from the ginger, but it quickly subsides as the Maninka fruit develops; at that point, the ginger becomes just a support spicy touch; towards the dry-down, the Maninka fruit note climbs up to position itself as the most prominent note. Once Hugo Boss the Scent Absolute EDP has reached its full dry-down, it can be summarized as a moderate projection, very sweet, Maninka fruit fragrance with some spicy ginger and a mild leathery accord. The Scent Absolute may not get as much hype as its brothers Private Accord and Magnetic, but it still gets some fair mention in the community. Having already given positive reviews to both of those, I figured it was time to pick up Absolute while I can still get it for a good price and give it a fair review. Will it win my heart like Private Accord and Magnetic? Let's get into it and find out; Scent: Opening is warm spicy, fruity, and earthy. There's only three notes in the official breakdown; Ginger, Maninka Fruit, and Vetiver, and I can pick out all of them easily. The strongest off the top are the ginger and maninka fruit. The ginger is aromatic with bright and spicy nuances, while the maninka fruit has that signature unique fruitiness that "The Scent" line is known for. It's dark, sweet, and has a chocolatey vibe to it. Some liken it to the smell of chocolate-dipped strawberries, and that's pretty accurate in my opinion. This is followed by the vetiver for an earthy and woody foundation, emphasis on the earthy. The dry down is warm spicy, sweet, and woody. The strongest of the notes in the dry down are the maninka fruit and vetiver. The maninka fruit note has become less fruity and more of a deep sweetness. Whereas in the opening the "chocolate-dipped strawberry" accord is mostly strawberry and some chocolate, in the dry down it's mostly chocolate and some strawberry. The vetiver is more noticeable and like the maninka has also swapped profiles. In the opening the vetiver is earth dominant and woodsy supporting, but in the dry down it is woods dominant and earthy supporting. Finally the ginger lingers in the background for hints of the aromatic spiciness from the opening. Performance: Initial projection is strong at around 6 feet. Sillage is strong as well with an easily noticeable scent trail. After a few hours the projection was right around arms length and the scent trail was still noticeable. At around the 7 hour mark the projection was light but still right around arms length. The sillage was still barely there with a faintly noticeable scent trail. At around the 10 hour mark the projection and sillage were unchanged. The fragrance lasted about 11-12 hours before becoming a skin scent entirely. When to wear: This is a fall/winter scent most suited for evening wear. This would work great as a date night fragrance. I would shy away from this for office or formal settings. Blind buy: If you like how "The Scent" DNA smells, or you like sweet and woody fragrances in general, this is a safe blind buy for you. Final verdict: The short answer is yes, I enjoy Absolute just as much as Private Accord and Magnetic. To me, Absolute is like Private Accord but dialed back on the chocolate accords. The chocolatey nuance from the maninka fruit is still there in Absolute, it's just not punching you in the face like it does with Private Accord. Magnetic on the other hand really does it own thing with the vanilla and bran notes, so it's hard to compare the scent profile of the two on a level playing field. When it comes to performance they all do pretty well, but Magnetic and Absolute do outperform Private Accord by a few hours. What it really comes down to is this; if you like strong vanilla, go with Magnetic. If you want a sweet and balanced experience, go with Absolute. If you love chocolatey gourmands, go with Private Accord. All things considered, my ranking is Magnetic in first place, Absolute in second, and Private Accord in third. That being said, you really can't go wrong with any of them. They will all smell great and get you positive attention. Scent: 9/10 Longevity: 8/10 Sillage: 6/10

Between the sour-sweet qualities of the maninka fruit and the amberwood & spice laden heart, The Scent Absolute strikes a pleasant and well-blended combination of notes great for the fall. The brisk, bright and fresh opening is followed by a sour, slightly exotic, and dusty fruity note (listed as maninka) reminiscent of overripe apples. This fruity accord is quite inviting and is accompanied by a chocolate touch that adds nice depth to the blend. This is interspersed by strong spicy (mainly cinammon) and woody (mainly amberwood) undertones that become progressively more pronounced. Finally, the base of the fragrance is mostly inhabited by a powdery tonka with some spices. I did not detect any vetiver despite what is listed in the official note breakdown. Longevity is slightly above average at 7 to 8 hours, and you can expect a solid 1.5 to 2 hours of projection. The structure of this fragrance comes across as very modern and should suit men of any age. I easily see this one becoming a signature "dumb reach" for the fall season. This is awesome. Actually, if I'm being honest, the entire 'Boss The Scent' line is fantastic. All great performers, all great value for the dollar. These are all extremely good performers, with exceptional projection and sillage, and ALL of them last a long time on skin. To say otherwise, is complete nonsense. I don't believe you. I own now 4 of them, and they are ALL incredible. This offering, the Absolute, shares its underpinnings with the rest of the line (as most flankers tend to do) but it is still unique enough that it isn't redundant if you like the line. This one is maybe the most mature of the bunch, with Elixir a close second, but I really like them all. The ginger/maninka combo here is just a fantastic mix. I guess If you don't like one of them, you won't like any. And that's fine. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. EVERY fragrance review on this site, including this one, is SUBJECTIVE. It is my opinion. But, if you like strong, sweet, spicy, above-average performing fragrances that are still squarely on the masculine side of the sweetness scale, and get favorable reactions from people, these are all great options. And the prices are good on discounters, too.

The first spray is a somewhat confusing mix of alcohol and women's vanilla shower gel. However, this only lasts for 30 seconds or so. It quickly morphs into a warm, chocolaty scent, which reflects the sweet maninka and woody vetiver. Some of the ratings on this sight confuse me though: while this definitely leans masculine, the sweet, warm, chocolaty combination could definitely be considered feminine. It's definitely nice scent and it has a simple, effortless warm, chocolaty spice that I don't find in a lot of designer scents. I agree with other reviews and I think this compares well with 1 Million and Pure XS from Paco Rabbane, as well as many other masculine sweet/gourmand scents that use warm spice. As it dries down, I find that the warm spice comes out even stronger - much stronger than I had expected - and definitely starts to lean more towards masculine. I would say this is a generally wearable scent, but I think the thickness of the sweet/warm spice would be a bit to powerful in a confined space. Altogether, I'm pretty impressed with this scent. It's not really my style, but I give it an 8.5/10 as it's really nice.
