Blask

The Bl(C)ask of Amontillado. I wonder what Fortunato did once out of his stupor? "That damned Montresor, I Trusted him! Trusted him about the Amontillado." Trust... He probably drank to his death. The death of Dionysos. His Laurel crown is no longer a symbol of triumph. The glass of wine spilled on the cellar floor and over his garments. The dank scent of the cellar, wood, wine, and bay laurel, and the soon-to-be decomposing corpse of poor Fortunato. Blask, a perfume about Trust, the deepest bond between human beings, as stated by the brand, is an ingenious composition put together by perfumers Christophe Laudamiel and Christophe Hornetz. It is such an intelligent perfume that constantly brings to mind Edgar Allan Poe's story. I can smell it in Blask. And what does it smell like? The major notes for me are the Bay Laurel, the red wine, the woods, and the resins. The interplay is fascinating, and many imaginary accords emerge from it - flowers, walnuts, leather, incense, and a decomposing/rotten smell. And yet, it is such an addictive, or should I say, intoxicating perfume, that puts laurel and wine to exquisite use. I have developed an infatuation with bay leaf in perfumery, especially the way it blends into Oriental compositions, as it does here. As for the wine, while I enjoy boozy facets in fragrances, I never found a wine accord to suit my tastes until now. Most of them are overly tart (Salute!, Une Rose) or cloyingly sweet (Zahd, Glühwein). This was the first time I discovered a wine accord that is done right. It is glacéd but not cloying, with enough of the tannic facets but never going overboard. Perfectly complemented by the spicy, camphorous, and sweet facets of the bay laurel. The woods and resins provide a perfect base, and all other facets come in and out slightly differently each time I wear it. There is nothing I can compare Blask to - unique and avant-garde, as alluring and deceiving as a cask of Amontillado. IG:@memory.of.scents

my favourite from the strange & interesting H&G line. my wife calls it the candy frag and i see her point, though it really isn't so sweet. it does indeed have a sort of white wine must smell but is not dank or damp at all. in fact blask is quite bright. blask is one of the hardest frags to pin down as far as notes go - it is fruity with a geranium-violet floral twist....whatever. i detect no oud, maybe it's the 'silent partner' that makes it so unusual. it's positive, extremely long-lasting and essentially linear. love it

Excellent scent in my opinion. Challenging to describe however on my skin it initally opens very fresh and you can certainly detect the wine note. After around 10 minutes the scent starts to develop even further and becomes sweeter and the oud comes into play. I would say this scent can be worn anytime of the day and mostly any season. Scent 9/10 Projection 8/10 Versatility 9.5/10

Blask smells exactly like 铁打药酒, a famous Chinese medicine for wound infection. It is very unique and masculine. However I think the oud is a little too strong here. The longevity and projection are superb. 1-3 sprays will be enough. Otherwise, the people around you may feel dizzy or suffocated. Rate: 7.7/10 AlmondBreakfast

Evocative,full-bodied and woody... knows how ancient, melancholy..is a spectacular perfume, unusual and impact !!! I am excited by this scent is a harmony of balanced and deep notes. I have no other words to describe it...very beautiful! Sillage: 9./10 Longevity: 9.5/10 Scent: 8./10 Overall: 8./10

Challenging, yes. Everchanging definitely. One moment I am unsure and unsettled the next unexpectedly surprised and appreciative. Prefer to smell on other people than wear it myself. My second H&G but not my last.

After reading all the reviews I have set huge hopes into Blask and bought an used 1/3 full bottle of it. First of all, the Perfume is Made in Germany. The ingredients list shows Aldehydes. Synthetic ingredients? Yes. Now what about the smell. After spraying it, I was instantly reminded of a fragrance I smelled before. And it was definitely not red wine which I was expecting. The smell is nothing new or groundbreaking for me. It smells like a mix of Jaguar Classic Red and Hanae Mori HM. But reminds me the most of lancetti via condotti. It lasts pretty long. Not to be used in hot weather!

Puiiiiii..... what is this bad smell. So repugnant. I mean take a look at the ingredient list. How could a mixture of otherwise one by one so beautiful smelling elements, stink so repulsif when blended. After reasding Q80's comment monitoring minutley the unveiling layers of the recipee, I forced myself to wait 30 good minutes, but it thenafter still stinked like our plastic air raft from 80s (at that time the smell-free polyamid molecules were so rare, that they were used only in selected industries like automotive, aviation and medicine, and every other plastic you found elsewhere stinked heavily) So that boat of ours that we inflate at the beginning of each summer, the baby powder coming out from unfolded layers, that we had put previous fall between the layers while folding it, so that they won't get stuck to each other.That's exactly the same heavy rotten plastic smell, kept 1 year in vacuum together with the cheap baby powder.Each time as we pumped it up, we immediately brought it to the sea to wash the smell off. I did the same thing to the spot on my wirst where I sprayed this sample on, but I wasn't as lucky as our former old boat. Washing with soap wasn't enough to get rid of it. I had to rub it off with nail polish remover. I mean I am quite accustomed to the heavy fragrances, take a look at the weighty parfums that I have used (Black Powder by Jusbox) or been using (Rien by ELDO) or the samples that I tried and adored, and want to have (Munegue, Patchouli Koza , Afrikan Olifantum , Musiqa Oud, all four by Nishane) They are all massive lourd parfums. But this is a very different leage of heavy.This is waste product remained in polyamid reactor. I strongly recommend to order a sample first and experience it the entire day.And don't spray it on paper or textile, that rotten plastic smell reveals itself only on skin.

now this is weird but true. it goes through optimally different bizarre stages. here we go: stage 1 (3 - 4 mins) = Medicinal winery effect which shows the sharply note of red Wine, and freshly bay leaves, & it's the most disgusting stage. Stage 2 (2 - 3 mins) = Dirty wool Bathroom Floor Wipes & still the red wine, with the Bay Leaves besides the walnuts, & the wooden notes. Stage 3 (2 - 3 mins) = turns a bit sharp into an Insect repellent spray & to be specific "RAID", the purple one "the powerful and the mighty that kills without mercy"! Stage 4 (4 - 5 mins) = now it turns into something quite interesting but still remains weird, it is the smell of the wool and dust underneath a permanent carpet, not a Persian silky carpet but the very thick wool carpet & to be specific: when someone is cleaning one floor or mopping the dust and hides the dirty dust underneath that wool carpet or rug, after a while you find out about it and you smell that dusty dirt mixed with wool once you lift up that carpet. Stage 5 (5 - 8 mins) = the Insect repellent RAID now is mixing with a cheap room spray. the floral notes and sweet essence are trying hard to hide that medicinal insect repellent effect. stage 6 ( after 20 - 30 mins) = now the last stage, this fragrance settles into the amazing & the infamous Knize 10. a typical version of that amazing fragrance and to be honest I never thought that that top note would ever turn into this amazing settle down! as it wasn't promising at all! but I can't lie, the settle down is amazingly done as Kniz 10 is one of my favorites. it truly has the floral notes that makes it a tiny different than Knize 10 but still IT IS Kniz 10 with red wine and floral notes. now head to the MAIN questions: will i have the will to wait 30 minutes to reach perfection? can I handle those weird layers for 20+ minutes? tough questions needs more time to think about!

I love bizarre, challenging, weird, unpretty, frankeinstein type of fragrances but I'm having an hard time in describing Blask. At H&G they only list 4 notes: Walnut, Red Wine accord, Oud and Bay Leaf and, basically, I don't get any of them.... Here's what I get: Violet (sweet, srort of candied violet petals they put on top of Marron Glace), no wine but more like the typical fermented aroma of the "must" (again sweet). Oud? well, ohm...uhm..ohhh..naaa (?!?!???). There's surely something resinous and woody during the drydown but I probably wouldn't call it oud. Bay Leaf? There's an aromatic, slightly pungent note that works like an ultrasonic whisper...could it be the Laurel? If it's the Bay Leaf it's nowhere similar to the real thing...Some generic parfumey things like mixed flowers (???) show up throughout. On top of all this you have to add a huge amount of weirdness provided by what to me are obscure ingredients. Pretty challenging indeed and not exactly what I usually define as "wearable", yet somehow intriguing. Anyone who tend to use the phrase "I never smelled something like this" too often, they should probably test Blask. . Rating: 8/10 (just because it's so daring)

H&G is one of the most unique and daring niche lines out there. There is a purity to their scents that leave most of them squarely in the love-or-hate category. I can't wait to try Blask.
