Jardin De Musc

Lovely potent woody floral musk with a generous amount of real deer musk. This central musk note is surrounded at first with spiced florals and then as the perfume settles with beautiful woody notes (sandalwood and oud). This is a heady unisex attar style scent with moderate to strong projection and very good longevity. It is an immediate transport to an Arabian nights fairy tale land. Enjoy!

This is an incredibly beautiful floral and musk composition. It starts off funky in the best way. To my nose it isn't any discernible or familiar kind of animalic, which makes it all the more exciting. Perhaps the vintage deer musk or some of the jasmine or gardenia does this. It's a beautifully fleshy floral scent with a divine drydown of mysore sandalwood and different types of kinam. It's the smoothest oud I've ever experienced with absolutely no animalic facets in the drydown, which would seem to speak to the high grade of the kinam. Arguably not my favorite type of oud as I like a little bit of fermented funk. However, I do think here a more brash and robust animalic oud would ruin the composition and might overshadow the mysore sandalwood and other delicate floral nuances. The BLENDING is masterful. It flows seamlessly from one part to the next and you can tell that the perfumer Adill Ali is a step above many other artisinal and indie noses working right now. He doesn't just rely on the high quality ingredients to do all the talking, he genuinely weaves them together to create a beautiful tapestry and a unique scent. The fragrance lasts about 4-5 hours on my skin and then becomes a faint whisper. Overall, it's a gorgeous floral sandalwood and musk centered scent, that unfortunately has an extremely high price tag. I don't know if this is justified since I don't know the exact prices of these rare raw materials. It's a shame, because while I am glad that such a beautiful scent exists and wish more of the perfumery world took note, it is at the end of the day so prohibitively pricey that it becomes inaccessible for most people to try, let alone own. So, I'm left with a somewhat existential question of: 'What's the point?' Not in a cynical way as with things like another Ganymede clone or another damascone overdosed cash grab from brands like Initio or Brandt. But rather 'what's the point' of creating something so beautiful and unique when it'll only sit on rich collectors' shelves to show off and rarely wear? This is not the fault of the perfumer or the brand to be clear, but still I'm a bit disheartened.
