#003 Carpenter

I've been working my way through experimental spicy scents and Carpenter is my first try from this brand. On me I don't get any of the bergamot - its just straight warm dry spice that lasts easily through a full work day. Its spicy, but not at all sweet, more dry like a wood paneled sauna. So far I'm quite pleased, and excited to try more from the brand. I would not say the projection is wild - Carpenter to me feels more like a personal scent that will last but not overwhelm those around you. Based on the carrot note I'd obviously compare it to Eyes Closed by Byredo, but that on my skin lasted maybe 3 hours, and they don't share very many notes so its a poor comparison.

Don't be put off by the marketing - this is a soft and unisex scent with nothing aggressively masculine. The opening is very nice with soft pepper and warm spices over blended woods. The dry down is less interesting - I mainly smell sandalwood with less cedar. Good longevity. Do not snort this from skin or paper - it smells much better as occasional wafs from under a shirt. Overall it's nice but pricing is a bit challenging and there are other very nice unisex spicy wood options like lalique spicy electrum.

god, i wish carpenter stayed smelling like the opening – warm, spicy and delicious, almost gourmand. i was hoping it would remain dry and woody, but it ended up turning too sweet (for my taste at least, but i am extremely averse to any sweetness at all), with almost no hint of the cedar and sandalwood base. longevity is excellent, however, and sillage seems to improve with time.

Not full of natural ingredients, but it works. The most comfortable and sweet of the collection. The spicy side is appreciated. Fortunately the carrot note is not distinct but effectively strengthens the dustiness. I don't take the atmosphere of the carpentry but more a renovation between fixtures and a dusty sandal of concrete. Light as pastel flesh pink. Comfortable and sweeter than benzoin in the finish but still masculine with ambroxan and super iso present for a long time.

Hunq is a really fun brand, and I appreciate the cheekiness. After sniffing through all of their offerings, I went home with a sample of Carpenter. It's much softer than expected, and I find the carrot and cardamom really tamper any sharp edges I expected from ginger and cedar, similar to TF Santal Blush. This hunk is a sensitive Carpenter. Sure, his hands are rough from his trade, but his soft flannel is warm and perfectly worn in, one that I plan on stealing when I leave in the morning.

Nice woody frag. Unique nozzle that shoots multiple separate streams instead of a mist.
