Ambra del Nepal

I bought a decant of Ambra di Nepal shortly after reading the fun, eloquent, and creative review below. Blondies, amber resin and ice cream? Sold! <3 I received my sample in the mail and tested immediately without letting it "settle." I am smelling very sweet vanillic amber, maybe some mild spice. Nothing sickeningly sweet or overly spicy, but the sweetness is definitely on the stronger side (think a spicier Kayali Vanilla 28). I best smell it about 4" away from my skin, and the scent is definitely noticeable (it's not a barely detectable scent like Prada Candy). I do not detect too much powderiness, which I like. I do not like things that are too skanky or earthy (for example Angel EDP and Black Opium original dry on my skin chemistry. Ambra di Nepal has just the tiniest kiss of earthiness. I do not like oakmoss and ambergris generally, and barely smell them if at all in Ambra di Nepal. The patchouli is a restrained whisper so far, maybe about as faint as the tiny bit of patchouli in original Flowerbomb. I am picky about patchouli like I am picky about lavender-- only a select few blends are wear-worthy to me, like Angel EDT 2019. As I continue wearing this, I realize there is some similarity (but not entirely) to Ivory Route by Xerjoff, but more vanillic and less Coca-cola. I agree 100% with those who said there is a vanilla extract vibe, as this does smell like real delectable baking vanilla extract I would put in a blondie or chocolate chip cookie. I asked for someone's opinion, and this was deemed "Marshmallow fluff" on my skin. I see this as comforting and cozy, maybe sexy for any ladies who tend to wear fruity-floral vanillas and want to dip a toe into a simple oriental vanilla. I think this would be best for fall and Winter. If anyone is new to amber or needs to use Alien as a reference, Alien is much less sweet but still pretty. Also Alien has slightly bitey and beachy topnotch that fade, with the unique nature of white florals. Ambra plays nice with a linear combo of vanilla-earthy resinous essences Edit: Wooooo. This is strong. Do not wear in the hot summer xD Edit 2: I think I perceived this perfume as so strong because my poor decant was leaking. Now that I have my own bottle with controlled sprays, it smells amazing and just right. One spray on my arm to enjoy, and I can imagine multiple sprays would give me a nice cloud. Regardless, I love it. Sexy spicy vanilla amber with "coca cola" vibes.

This is my amber: creamy, just resinous and powdery enough. It’s delicately sweet with a touch of vanilla, a hint of peppery spice, and a bit of oakmoss, which is a polarizing note, but I find it quite appealing. Don't buy if you don't like a bit of sweetness, the vanilla here smells a bit like the outer coating of Italian confetti, but it's well balance with the other notes, so it's not too sweet. Sandalwood can be tricky for me, as even the smoothest can turn sharp on my skin. But here, the woody notes are well-balanced. While some might consider it basic, to me it’s elegant and effortlessly beautiful. It’s perfect for everyday wear. As for longevity, it lasts throughout the day, though it becomes quite close to the skin by the end that you might think it has faded. I wish it had more intensity and projection, but given that it’s built around base notes, I don't know if it is possible. I tend to overspray, which is why I finished a 100ml bottle in just a year and a half - this is definitely my most worn fragrance. I wish so much it could last longer!!!!! I find the 100ml bottle with the wooden cap beautiful and nostalgic, almost like something from an old pharmacy. One of the best looking bottle I own.

Delicious and warm, safe and comforting. When you want to feel as though you've been embraced by the one who loves you most or at the very least the warmest cashmere blanket--wear this. It starts with spice that mellows into a warm heat on the skin circling around a toffee center. It's not a gourmand however, instead it moves beyond the momentary sensation of the palate and evokes the psychological references that we associate with richly decadent and comforting aroma of freshly made toffee or a caramelized brulee. Purchased the bottle as a blind buy and I am so happy that I did. While I can't say that this will be an all time favorite, I do see it as a recurring winter/cold weather indulgence. I'm finding that it's also good layered beneath lighter honey scents often put away for the summer and spring---it provides a solid base. As an aside, I find it so funny that every perfume listed as "enjoyed by those who like this perfume on the Fragrantica side bar for this perfume are perfumes that I either own (and love) or desire (and love). Hilarious. They have me pegged!

Such a gorgeous amber that I had to buy a bottle. To me it smells more like myrrh than anything else. It's a very woody amber. I know there is vanilla in it, but I don't get much vanilla at all. On me it's not sweet, nor is it gourmand. I also owned Ambra Aurea by Profvmvm Roma, and I own Ambre Sultan. I feel that the three are all so closely related. I love them all, but this was the one I found myself reaching for above the other two, over and over again. The other two are arguably better perfumes and more complex. I regard Ambra Aurea as an absolute masterpiece that is totally unrivaled. But somehow Ambra del Nepal just strikes the exact right balance for my taste. It really floats my boat. I sold Ambra Aurea, which I sometimes regret, but then I remind myself that I deeply appreciated it but never wore it. I kept Ambre Sultan as I do occasionally reach for it. Anyway, if you're an amber lover, Ambra del Nepal is one you should absolutely seek out.

A rich amber full of an intense cistus oil (a form of labdanum), incense, resins, sweet vanilla, and something that smells like apples. I don’t smell much of anything spicy, so if there’s cardamom in the mix it’s not obvious. Overall, this is similar to Madini Ambre, Olympic Orchids Amber, and Hermes Ambre Narguile, sort of like a cross between the three, but sweeter than any of them, fruiter than the first two, and lacking the strong musk that is in the third. Having said this, I obviously love Ambra del Nepal. The sillage lasts for about 2-3 hours, after which it becomes a sweet, slightly musky and spicy skin scent. The spice at this point is more like cinnamon than cardamom. Even the skin scent is gone after 4-5 hours, so longevity is moderate. Overall, this is an excellent fragrance, worth trying if you like amber.

I'm cursed to have skin that literally eats perfume, so Ambra del Nepal is first and foremost a deep, creamy vanilla on me. There's a background chorus of sandalwood and incense, and maybe ambergris.. but I almost think I'm imagining the sea part. It's one-dimensional on my skin after the first 20 minutes. If people are getting more than 8 hours out of this consider yourself very fortunate, on me it's a skin scent after an hour. Still I like it and acquired a full bottle in a trade so I will try this again in warm weather. I have a suspicion that it will better for me then. EDIT July 2019: yes, this works better for me in the summer heat...if you have perfume eating skin wear Ambra del Nepal in warm weather.

Lovely, sublime, comforting and yet also arousing in the right context. Not a terribly complex fragrance but still an all time favorite and my signature scent. I suppose it must be the naturalness of the ingredients and the purity of the recipe. Definitely look up the story behind this brand. This is a fragrance that could become your signature - a true and basic recipe that mends to your own chemistry and will fetch you compliment after compliment.

Just the perfect creamy vanilla amber. Not too sweet, with hints of woods and spice (cardamom?). There are a lot of great amber perfumes but Ambra del Nepal is one I reach for most often. I get a lot of compliments on it even though it's not especially unique or flashy. It's a comforting scent that lasts all day.

I adore this. Probably my favorite amber fragrance ever. It was instantly mesmerizing. It is not overly unusual, but it is done so well. I would consider this very unisex. I have hundreds of perfumes, and this one does stand out for sure.

What to say after Kterhark and Doc Elly, except my ears are curling with pleasure. My ears? Yes, my ears. My nose is drunk. I _w a n t _i t longevity: after 12 hours my skin is still giving exquisite amber

A very pleasant vanilla-amber with decent longevity that sits fairly close to the skin. While it's very cozy and warm, there's not much to make me reach for this as opposed to any other number of vanilla-ambers that have a bit more interest or sillage. Probably won't buy a full bottle of this, but maybe a small decant. It is very nice and cozy, but a little too simplistic for my tastes.

I don't know what to think about this one, really. I feel like there is much more to this perfume than meets the eye (nose?), and certainly more notes than the listed ones. Is it a vanillic amber? Yes, definitely. But I also detect a muted black cherry, dried fruit and even rose. I cannot seem to put my finger on this composition, it is somehow fleeting and eludes me.

Light fresh vanilla , the cardamon is there but sits right behide the amber hidden. It stays warm and cozy but after 6 hours it gets a freshness. It is a light skin scent. Love it layered. I have received complements after I could no longer smell it. Nice but light.

My first thought upon applying was bubblegum. As in, that the pink sugary bubblegum dusted with powder that you get on Halloween but no one wants to eat. Blergh. This is fruity and sweet amber, not smokey, sensual amber. Ambra del Nepal is melon and sweet resins, and that's about it. No spices, no oriental vibe...just honeydew melon slathered in honey-sweet resins. Extra sad points because I can't smell any cardamom in this, and it's my favorite spice. I'll pass.

I recall that I really loved the sample of Ambre de Nepal I got 15 years ago and I decided to splurge on a full bottle last month. I tell you what: if nothing else, finally writing reviews on all the fragrances I own is an exercise in both recognizing and reconciling with myself how much my tastes have changed over the years. When I recently smelled this out of the box, I was immediately like, wow man, this is a real ice cream sandwich of a scent. As if you took an ancient chunk of bronzed, powdery amber resin and churned it up with rock salt, whole milk, fresh cream, and about 50 vanilla bean pods-- which you’d probably have to take out a small loan for because those things aren’t cheap. And then you baked up some really squidgie brown sugar blondies with a hint of cardamom, cut them into uneven rectangles because precision is not your strong point and your glasses prescription is outdated, and then you piled your creamy frozen amber confection between two of those lopsided cookies. But you immediately wrapped them up in the freezer because let’s face it, you don’t really like sweets anymore, so why did you make this in the first place? Much like those imaginary ice cream sandwiches, now hidden behind a bag of frozen peas for eternity, this perfume probably won't see the light of day for a long time.

My second sample from this house. Very happy with both so far. This is a vanilla bomb that is surprisingly potent for what I believe is an all-natural house? I can't find anything definitive that claims they use *only* naturals. Said because the strength is a bit surprising, it can travel a good 15 feet away from a test strip within a couple hours. Perhaps vanilla can regardless tho...(?) That said, it's "vanilla bomb" in a good way. As others have suggested, it's tempered terrifically with a spice, so that it's not an overly sweet vanilla, which would've been disappointing. Not at all a "boring" vanilla, has surprising potency, projection and longevity for an all-natural. Safe and never offensive, pleasing to almost all noses, and zero headache or nausea which I'm prone to with countless fragrances. I will def buy this, if I can figure out where here in the states. Cheers to this house, I'm very pleased so far with my first two samples (first one was a clean floral "Caterina de Medici").

This is the kind of fragrance that, after I read all the other reviews, makes me worry that I have absolutely no nose for subtlety or that there is something so terribly askew with my chemistry that I ought to seek medical attention. I get no amber, no sandalwood, no spices, fruit, or flowers. When I put it on, I got a giant punch of strong vanilla, and I waited with bated breath for it to evolve. And waited. And waited. I've had it on for six hours, and it hasn't budged from smelling like I straight up dabbed vanilla extract on my arms. I mean, vanilla extract smells lovely, but I was hoping for a great deal more. I'm going to a dinner party tonight, so I am going to layer Shalimar over it so my fellow guests don't get excited thinking I baked dessert.

Lovely, warm and spicy with a great vanilla note that lasts through the drydown. The cardamom is very much in play and it gives a beautiful spicy note to the fragrance. This lasts a few hours on skin. Not a whole lot of sillage, but who needs it when you feel so cosy with this scent on your skin. When I first tried this scent I found the vanilla a bit too sweet in the middle notes, but this time around I am loving it. It reminds me of a much more reasonably priced but still lovely Ambre Narguile. I give this one two thumbs up particularly for the value. A nice sized bottle is only $99 at Barney's so I bought it with the Barney's gift certificate I got for Christmas. This is a very lovely scent that gets better and better on your skin as the hours go by.

This is such a well covered genre that the only thing you can do as a perfumer is not make a mistake. So how does i profumi fare? Well. But I must confess, I LOVE amber fragrances; they ooze opulence and well being. Give me amber as the leading character and I'll give you my undying adoration. But Profumi adds a special treat. I don't know how it's happening, but there is a low humming incence vibe. Not church-y incense, but boudoir sensuous incense. Mmm. Oh, and did I mention the price? Very affordable in the smaller size. I may have to give in on this one...

Best of the line so far hands down. Although for me it would be, being a huge amber / vanilla / spice fan. Mostly amber, with lots of delicious bakery vanilla, (not so heavy on ambergris) and soft subtle eastern spices beneath. Huge love. Reminds me a touch of one of my favourites - Oriental Lounge. But with much more vanilla. Want list!
