Prison Blues

Oh this is lovely. I have always been a massive patchouli addict since discovering patchouli essential oil as a teenager. I am always on the lookout for good patchouli dominant perfumes and this is one of the best that I’ve discovered for a long time. For me Prison Blues sits directly between the soft, slightly sweet and lightly floral Patchouli Patch by l’Artisan Parfumeur and the somewhat woodier peppery Javanese Patchouli by Ermenegildo Zegna. Prison Blues could very well become my number one favourite patchouli perfume. Perhaps my only concern would be the projection, which feels quite subtle but there again perhaps if it were more loud it would lose a little of its magic and could risk falling into hippie head shop territory. As it is, prison blues has me frequently sniffing my wrist. It has me instantly transported into an enchanted reverie. It is the very best kind of fragrance that makes you feel never alone. It is like a warm companion, a compassionate friend. Indeed if I ever found myself in prison, I can’t think of a finer cell mate. No blues. Just pure natural joy.

This is a hard love. This has all of the contrasting qualities I enjoy in fragrance. You get the rugged patchouli (which is actually smooth) contrasted by a warming/leathery sweetness. Woods, warmth, spice - and all of it is very smooth. This is the embodiment of a gentleman who is calm, cool and collected. This is - by all accounts - the best “bang for your buck” niche fragrance out there. I ordered my bottle directly from their website. I’m in the United States - so I was hoping I’d have the opportunity to smell it within a month or so. Well - i had it in 3 days. That’s right - international shipping in 3 days. Incredible. If you haven’t purchased this yet - quit being a dingus and buy it. 8/10

I am in love with this fragrance!!!! Its in my top 5 fragrances of all time. (there, I said it! :-P)

This has a nice spicy-patchouli horizon, not too creamy (as seen in Coromandel), but neither dry-earthy, with a pleasant smell, but medicore performances. 140 $ retail price is far away from the offered longevity. Maybe with a 50% discount code should be closer to the "reality". But overall it's a decent player, with a pleasury olfactive experience... Sprayer is "sparkling" on a good area. Longevity: Around 3-4 h with low projection.

This may not be a ground-breaking fragrance but it's a very well constructed patchouli scent in the old-school style.

The scent profile is beautiful. Only thing it is lacking is ok projection. I wear and 90 percent of time can’t detect it, neither can my wife. You gotta get in close and take a deep breath. I usually spray 3 or 4 times in each spot when I wear this. It is not enough. Amended 12/26/2020. Been wearing it for longer. On and off. It is stronger and last longer than first couple of wears. But I’m super disappointed. Even looking to sell the remaining 3.25oz left in my bottle since I’ve fallen out of love with this. Too me the company made a comprising mistake of substituting natural and safe ingredients with synthetic materials. Specially the patchouli. Quite synthetic patchouli. I can tell but may be wrong, nevertheless it doesn’t impress me as much as it did not long ago. Yeah, no patchouli. If there is any it dies off by the dry down. This is a mess of a fragrance. It’s one of my most regrettable purchases ever. This several other fragrances from indie houses that focus too much clean synthetics. Whatever that may be.

There is nothing wrong with this at all. I am sure some will give it a thumbs up. Citrusy, woody, peppery with a fresh promising open then settling down to a shade above generic. Initially I liked it on the opening but then the freshness went and I stopped liking it. But did not dislike it. Just would not wear it. I suspect that offering 50% discount and free shipping on their website plus 10% off a next order is still slightly overpriced unless you like it. Fragrance: 6.8/10 Projection: 7.5/10 Longevity: 7/10

PRISON BLUE is a perfume for men, I'd say so. In fact I'd recomment it to a career-driven or a businessman. Woods softened by cardamom, which is well perceived and actualizes a formula otherwise already seen in past decades. Same task is delivered by oud, which is present but without being overwhelming like Montale, Kilian or Santi Burgas, no wild Arabia-style here! Have you ever tryed Perris Bois d'Oud? Or Tom Ford old glories Japon Noir and Purple Patchouli?, well, that's the area. And I like it.
