Black Dianthus

"From the bitter to the sweet" It evolves in a classic way, that is, in three phases, although the concept is modern. Aromatic dry entree: thyme, rhubarb, together with belladonna, produce a bitter, almost smoky aroma, with nuances of tobacco and leather, which is transformed into fruity-floral by the berries and a carnation that touches the resemblance to the aroma of a Pink, feels placid and soft. As it evolves the aroma of a good vetiver wood accompanied by licorice is installed and finally sweetened by the hidden note of vanilla and a musky cocktail with an original and fine cherry background without ever entering the gourmand. The aroma as a concept I liked a lot, it is original, intelligent, the duration is good and it projects smooth (for my taste better), which makes it ideal for daytime use and multiestation. I love this one! I purchased a bottle after draining a sample I had. After receiving a complement while wearing it, I was sold. To me this is a attention-getting, unusual, smoky-peppery fragrance perfect for slightly cooler weather. I also get whiffs of a beautiful, clean, masculine-leaning soapy accord, which I adore. The longevity and sillage are pretty outstanding, too. Definitely worth trying if this description appeals to you!

Unique and old fashioned blast of blackcurrant and hints of patchouli. All round winner in my view.

Cel'ho dal 2013, usato poche volte. Ero incuriosito dalla belladonna, e in generale da questo boquet un po insolito che prometteva bene. L'apertura mi piace; è rossa e amara, proprio come il rabarbaro. Però dura poco e lascia il campo a una nota di cannella simile a quella che c'è in Peccatrice di Hilde soliani. Questa nota di cannella mista a garofano è abbastanza piccante, mescolata a quell'agrodolce della ciliegia,ci sarà anche la liquirizia che non decifro e note verdi erbose,forse timo. Però non mi conquista, resta sulla pelle senza gloria, ci trovo delle simiglianze con King kong di kenzo. boh.

interesting! goes on very green and almost smokey oud then as it dries to the middle the fruit comes up; it reminds me of another fragrance I have smelled but can't place it then it turns carnation and spice with the sweet fruit rounding it out and some pepper

An old-fashioned perfume ... nothing fancy but a great sillage.

I first read Black Dianthus described on EauMG's blog as a witches brew of a scent, and being an-all-or-nothing person regarding potential holy grail witchy fragrances, I bypassed a sample and bought an entire bottle. This was in 2017. I sniffed it once, thought, eh, it's fine, and never wore it again. I saw it glaring at me balefully from the shadowy recesses of my perfume cabinet recently and thought that perhaps it was time to give this one another try...and I am so glad that I did. Black Dianthus officially only lists notes of black dianthus, which is I believe carnation, in addition to licorice, and vetiver, but what I smell is a bitter brew of bracken and moss, tannic, leathery bark, and peppery hemlock leaf littering the damp forest floor, the sour fruit of burst baneberries, and spiced smoke spiraling from the cauldron where this potion hisses and sputters over a strange, green flame.

A brooding concoction that pushes the concept of carnation in shadowy, caliginous spaces, taking the classic accord and deconstructing it, bringing the bitter and sweet elements into relief. These fantastical black dianthus blooms have been thrown into the brew with lingonberries, black cherries, smoked herbs, roots of angelica and licorice, and perhaps an eye of newt or two. Once steeped to perfection, the mixture is suffused with racemes and rhizomes and pieces of spiced bark, flourished with vetiver and kissing the skin both bitter and sweet, much like a metaphor for life's great lesson. Black Dianthus is a dusky floral that reaches the precipice of gourmand, with thankfully the tannic, astringent qualities restraining it in the most delightful manner.

I totally agree. It's a carnation escaping all the classic carnation clichés. Why do I always want to call it a gothic perfume, I don't know. Thin layers of hay-cherry-tobacco, ashy herbal dust and vegetal bitterness, they all weave a net that envelops this main carnation note without taking any space out of it, just lining the petals. A blooming somber flower into a dim-lit alchemist's workshop. Quite persistent, too.

It's an interesting and unusual fragrance, I smell acid rhubarb at the top but to me it quickly fades away leaving autumnal fruits taking the scene. Hint of wood and birch tar too. I think it works like magic layered with a good patchouli fragrance

Rabarbaro, rabarbaro, rabarbaro, rabarbaro e nulla più. Per uomini che amano il rabarbaro. Assai noioso e monotematico.
