A Whiff of Wafflecone

TLDR: If you DO NOT like maple syrup you will not like this at all. I am a very known disliker of gourmands- they give me massive headaches and make me nauseous- very specifically in things like air fresheners, scented candles, and random gourmand girlies I have the misfortune of being within 50ft of.... But! I am on a journey to figure out what kind of frags I like, I want to try as many as possible, and it finally came time for me to pick a gourmand.... I'm in love with this. Im floored. I'm crying and screaming. No migraines!? It opens up with an intense wave of almost photorealistic maple syrup- and i dont mean the real stuff, I mean the kind like Mrs Butterworths. That very sweet straight-forward fake maple.... Its great! It makes me hungry lol.... Its so comforting and nostalgic. I can only imagine my first time at a Wafflehouse (those waffles rock btw) or having a big stack of buttery pancakes at my grandma's. Its very very nice... As this frag settles and dries, it very quickly begins opening up- the sweetness calms down, a very cozy blend of sandalwood, vanilla, and spice begins to emerge. Straight maple syrup evolves into a blend of calmer, sweet icecream (but there is maple icecream). The wood is -especially- present. I havent quite smelled anything like it before. It has this effect of being in the lumber section of a hardware store... Hardware store + Sweet icecream?... I personally love this combination. It makes excited to potentially explore other gourmands, and I know what to look for now: Wood!

✍️-🤳 I erased & re-writing my experience,only because it's based off a FB&time with it now verses a sample&being excited,so I enjoy very sweet scents&non sweet scents,im complicated ...however things that I noticed now owning*wearing awhile it has a masculine 🪵 woody vibe I didn't notice with sample&I don't mind it because it's still rich with the carmel &maple,im someone who has been hunting for a fragrance that actually smells like maple 🍁 &this also has maple ,a candle,woody 📝 notes &I absolutely love every freaking second of it,it lasts forever as if you first sprayed on skin until your able to really scrub in shower,yet on clothes after sitting when I went to wash a shirt it smelled like a unique ancient sweet smokey incense only after sitting on clothes awhile hilarious ,I didn't buy this to wear on clothing even tho~ i like both sides of scent or to impress anyone,this and TF tobacco Vanille are the only 2 gourmand fragrances I love& buy forever. Masterpiece of these styles I like this mysterious gourmand out of this style of caramel ~ slight cinnamon spice ~maple woody Vanille scents~best &longest lasting high amped qaulity!¡! This fragrance is a lot and I can see why it is polarizing, but it is one of my absolute favorites and I reach for it again and again. There is no way around it - this perfume is SWEET. Sticky sweet. Give you a toothache sweet. It is a syrupy fragrance that makes you smell like a stack of pancakes drenched in maple syrup. Many reviewers say they love this in the winter, but I love it mostly as a summer fragrance, though I will wear it year round. It is simply a fun scent and reminds me of summer road trips and late summer nights that turn into early mornings at the diner coming back to life with a stack of pancakes. A little of this goes a long way (I do no more than three sprays) and it will last all day and well into the night. It lingers on clothes until they go in the wash. For what it is worth, this is the perfume in my collection that I have received the most comments/compliments on by far! If I don't wear it for a while, my coworkers will ask me to wear it again. My husband loves it and asks me to wear it on date nights. I will say, I do agree with other commenters that the reformulation was a bit of let down. My first bottle of this had a beautiful vanilla undercurrent that helped anchor it and make it a little more sophisticated. The reformulation has none of that, even though I think the intent was to make it even more vanilla. I still LOVE this perfume, but I do have some hope they go back to the original.

I bought a 2mL sample of this last week, and after wearing it a few separate days I bought a full bottle as soon as I got paid! For starters, it's strong - INSANELY strong. I've been a heavy smoker for a long time, so 98% of fragrances are unperceiveable to me unless I smell my skin. With this fragrance, and only three sprays from a tiny vial, I can smell it for 6-8 hours. If *I* can smell it for that long and for it to still be incredibly loud, I can only imagine what this sugar bomb would be like for others! And sugary it is - this is the most dense yet syrupy scent I've ever encountered, and I've been a gourmand freak for a decade now. It's also really difficult to describe, as one of my friends said it smelled like caramel coffee, but to me it's SO well blended that it's almost impossible to pick out notes. For example, the cinnamon - it's a base foundation for this fragrance but it doesn't smell *like* cinnamon. If anything, it's like a secret recipe, home-made cinnamon syrup infused into the other ingredients. Rich, sweet, but not obnoxious and difficult to place. It's a very complex fragrance considering the few notes it has, but it's a beautiful scent nonetheless. Definitely not for those who want to smell like actual food 😅 Since this is a very niche fragrance there's literally only one stockist in Australia, so it's $200 for a 50mL bottle. But honestly, I'd happily pay double for this absolute masterpiece!

Less like a whiff of wafflecone and more like a full waffle, paired with whipped cream and syrup. On me, this perfume was stronger the day after wearing it, even after a full wash. It sinks right into the skin and stays for a couple days. Surprisingly low amount of sillage that stays within your personal bubble rather than wafting through the room which is appreciated as the sweetness is quite strong. I find that on my skin the sandalwood note is in the opening but not the dry down. The dry down is quite syrupy, a lot of vanilla and cream. Like a stack of waffles. Whereas, my friend said on her skin it was the opposite. Syrupy opening with a sandalwood dry down. It held up quite well when I was visiting Texas this past month, have yet to wear it back home where it's far more humid and colder. I quite like the scent, a really great gourmand fragrance. Likely won't buy a full bottle but a nice travel sized one is definitely in the cards. EDIT: Back home with plenty of humidity and cold. It still holds up nicely but doesn't have as big a projection as before. Lasts just a tiny bit less but still in the 24h range rather than 48h. One of my new faves for when I'm out during the day.

The salted caramel note is what makes up the basis of this fragrance for me. It's not overpoweringly sweet, but instead a mellow kind of flavour. The vanilla flavour makes me imagine this to be a serving of salted caramel on a small scoop of vanilla ice cream, with a short stick of cinnamon poking out the top, all being served on a plate of sandalwood. All of these combine together to make a really nice autumn/winter fragrance that I think partners with In Love With Everything by Imaginary Authors as two of the best 'edible smelling' fragrances that I have ever tried. Longevity is absurdly good, and it held its notes and complexity for hours and hours. Suitable for the office? I would say no, it's not really everyone's cup of tea and it can be quite in-your-face. Though it is definitely suitable for a date night or a night out somewhere, especially around Christmas time. I will be purchasing a bottle of this fragrance.

A Whiff of Wafflecone genuinely smells like walking past an ice cream shop while they're pressing fresh waffle cones. I pass by a place like that regularly, and the resemblance is uncanny. It's one of the most realistic gourmand fragrances I've come across. Performance is excellent as well. A few sprays are all you need, and it easily lasts throughout the day. It is a pretty cinnamon forward fragrance, and I also pick up on maple syrup, even though that's not listed in the official notes. Yes, it is definitely strong, but I still find it to be warm, cozy and nostalgic rather than overpowering. I absolutely love wearing this fragrance. Occasionally I will layer it with a simple vanilla, which really enhances the impression of an ice cream cone. It probably won't appeal to everyone, as it's unapologetically gourmand, but if that's your style, then you might love this one as much as I do.

Just bought a 14ml size at Fumerie Parfumerie in Portland, Oregon. Portland being where Salt and Straw originated, i have a fair share of memories in that place. This does really capture the scent of their waffle cone presses just behind the counter, along with chocolate ice cream, despite it not being listed in the notes. I really love the secnt of this, and i got a few compliments today talking about how i reminded them of breakfast at their grandparents, or just simply ice cream. Unfortunatley there is almost zero projection outside the first hour, and not much even then. Although good longevity, its isnt what i would expect and am only getting about 9 hours, which isnt enough for my lifestyle and also not what i am used to for the vanilla in my collection. anyway to cut to the chase: scent: 10/10 projection: underwhelming/10 longevity: could be better but not for me/10

I bought this perfume few months ago. I personally love it because woody vanillas are my favourite category. I've worn it several times both at home and work. I always use four sprays (two on the clavicles, two on the arms). Today is quite chilly, so I added a couple more sprays. Oh boy, the difference those made. Almost nobody comments on my perfumes, ever. But today I had several people asking if I had spilled some coffee on me or something and one of them didn't look like she enjoyed the smell one bit. Like I said, I love it so I'm going to keep wearing it, but I learnt my lesson. No more than four sprays even in cold weather. Also, I personally just smelled smokey wood, but now that people have mentioned coffee, I can see how that smokiness mixed with the vanilla can give a roasted coffee effect.

Straight up waffle, hold the cone! Ah, oh well, this deeply maple and brown sugar union is still a sugar-bomb from Breakfast Bakery heaven! The imagery that Imaginary Authors can create with just a spray is quite the accomplishment, and something to be commended, even if some of it seems a little gimmicky, it is still art in a bottle. Picture this; You dream of Skyscrapers made from waffles, Pyramids from pancakes, Rivers of syrup, and clouds of whipped butter. Caramel drips from waterfalls and you live in a state of a constant sugar high. This is the scent encapsulated. Just a smooth, rich, and fragrant waffle, dripping of maple, brown sugar, and vanilla. You will surely be the sweetest thing around with this scent. 9/10.

i really adore this! while not exactly a "whiff" (more like a blast) of "waffle cone" (more like syrup, caramel-y sweets), it's so addictive! i'm usually very picky about synthetic smells, and i didn't get that when i wore this as my go-to. what you DO have to be wary of is how intense it is-- after spraying my wrist and neck once, i could smell myself all day! it's powerful but that just means there's bang for your buck! if you want a saccharine, fun gourmand, this one is wonderful!! i'd also maybe be mindful of the setting you wear this perfume in-- i wore this when i was a barista at a bakery, but i wouldn't wear it to my office job, you know?

In the top the sandal wood definitely comes through pretty hard and drowns out the gourmand aspects fo the fragrance but as it dries down it only gets sweeter. The caramel and vanilla combine to bring the "ice cream in a waffle cone" image to life. This guy is ETERNAL, I tried it for the first time in NYC at scent bar in the dead of summer. On my skin it lasted 2-3 days. It lasted the rest of the day in Soho, the shower the next day, the flight home, and the shower the day after that. Quite literally a price to value MONSTER, for only $105 dollars there is no other thought you should have than to purchase it. 9.1/10 SSB: BUY!!

This smells like maple syrup drizzled over toasted waffles with a dollop of whipped cream. Theres melted ice cream on top with powdered sugar too. As this dries down the caramel becomes lighter and the vanilla here is airy, bread like even and slightly powdery. This is sweet but it’s not overwhelming. The waffle here is fresh off the griddle in the opening but as it dries down, this waffle is colder now, it’s a waffle cone holding a vanilla ice cream scoop. You get the feel of an ice cream waffle cone from the fair, with the smell of sugar in the air and kettle corn stands nearby. This is a wonderfully fun gourmand!

I blind bought this, and I am so impressed! I agree with everyone who says it is just maple syrup, I don't get waffle, or cream, or vanilla, I just get bold and projecting Pancake Parlour maple syrup. Don't even consider trying this if you don't like sweet scents, because this will have you smelling like a brown sugar treat. It then develops into almost a smoky wood and cinnamon base which gives it some maturity and complexity, but that woodiness stays close to the skin and the maple syrup projects far and lasts hours and hours! I think this is divine, but I also love the idea of leaving a maple syrup scent trail.

Fragrance Journal Entry #141 Apparently this fragrance is quite divisive, but i have to disagree this stuff is amazing and i don't understand how anyone could dislike this smell. Picture a giant belgian waffle with a fat scoop of vanilla bean iced cream and a healthy drizzle of maple syrup...that's exactly what this fragrance represents and as a gourmand lover i'm all for it. I'd even go as far to say this is the best photo realistic gourmand i've ever tried and it will stay in my collection forever. This stuff is incredibly strong and will fill a room with 2 sprays. I decided to blind buy this fragrance, and It didn't surpass my expectations I would say it was on par with them, which is ok because they were so high. This scent is honestly really good I don't really get waffle cone but more of a syrup smell. This stuff also preforms like a beast I sprayed it on when it arrived about 15 minutes out of the shower and woke up the next day and it was all I could smell. My one problem with this fragrance is I honestly don't know when I could wear it, maybe, at a carnival, Christmas or something like that. Overall great fragrance and I recommend to those who love their gourmands.

Love this and I need a full bottle. This is a slightly burnt waffle and maple syrup smell to me. You and everyone around you will be craving pancakes or waffles because this just smells like a tasty breakfast and it's not weak at all. A Whiff of Wafflecone lasts long and projects amazing, I love gourmands and good performing scents so this is perfect for me. May be unsatisfactory to wear during the mid-day when it's sunny and/or hot outside, perfect during special nights or cold mornings due to its sweet and sticky smell.

Sprayed this on paper and was really disappointed by how acrid it was. Super sharp and burnt smelling and just overall off-putting. HOWEVER on my skin, that sharpness only lasts a few minutes and turns into a deep, sugary vanilla ice cream, waffle cone and all. It lasts all day and it literally FILLS a room, it’s so intense. Super impressed! In terms of perfumes listed as similar— ✔️ Navitus Mahni Cassonade: very similar ✔️ Mancera Amore Caffè: very similar ✔️ Snif Vanilla Vice: similar but much sharper and smokier

Update: I tried this last year and found it way too smoky. Like burnt brown sugar. I was not a fan. I tried it again today and I love it. I enjoy hyper realistic gourmands and it still smells like burnt brown sugar, (my opinion on that must’ve changed in the past year) but I’m picking up on much more vanilla and much less burnt toast. I ended up buying a whole bottle because I realized I do want to smell like a creme brûlée. I don’t suggest unless you enjoy cinnamon brown sugar pop tarts, but they’re my favorite.

The caramel note resembles maple syrup to me and comes off strong...REAL strong at the top and the cinnamon is a very close second. The drydown I get more of the actual waffle accord. It’s positively nuclear performance and leaves many of my Parfum/Extrait perfume collection in the shade. It’s literally the best value.Cannot fault the smell, longevity or the price for that matter. My first Imaginary Authors and keen to try others. Already have a complimentary Cape Heartache sample which is also impressive.

Smells pretty good but lasts to damn near infinity. I applied 5 sprays, two on my neck, one on the back of my neck and one on both of my wrists. I showered 2x times a day and I can still smell it on me 3 days later..... Pretty insane longevity and it's a very distinct scent so be forewarned. That said, I think this is more so a daytime summer scent than a winter scent, maybe it's because I am in South Florida, but if I'm thinking ice cream cone it's gonna be out in the sun walking around! :)

I just did one spritz on the wrist to test it, and its been with me for a few hours. I greatly enjoy it. Its very sweet and a maple syrup type of smell. It reminds me heavily of cereal, specifically cinnamon swirl cinnamon toast crunch. A coworker said its like fruit loops. Its definitely stronger than I anticipated, but not in a bad way. I work in a small office, so if I go overboard everyone smells it. But this has yet to bother anyone and only those that get close to me are smelling it.

This hooked me into the world of gourmand-ery. The nuclear sweetness toward the ice cream shop up north with the spice allowing me to appear with it on its own has made me obsessed with the goal of variety in how this scent exists. Birthday Suit (Confessions of a Rebel) and Indigo Smoke (Arquiste) does something similar. The amount that this layers into is wonderful and will be a staple in my cologne wardrobe as long as the wonderful people at Imaginary Authors are still producing.

Obtained this as part of their "Summer Reads" sample set. I absolutely love this smell, and it is ridiculously long lasting. My mother has told me I smell like chocolate stout, which is not exactly what I expected but I will happily take it! The fact that both she and other members of my family could distinctly smell it so clearly screams to me that this is a fragrance that people will smell for miles. I'm very happy with that, but if you don't then maybe look elsewhere

Smells like a photo realistic waffles and syrup breakfast. Highly different from the original with INSANE performace. 3 sprays of this and i had people asking "does someone smell waffles cooking? or like maple syrup." when i told them it was me they were confused and astonished that a fragrance could smell that way. For the Breakfast and Gourmand lovers only. This stuff is dangerously sweet but mass appealing to those who enjoy maple syrup.

The description is 100% accurate; it smells exactly like a waffle cone. When I wear it, I feel like I'm staying in a mom-and-pop style ice cream shop. Bought it blind based on my love for sugary and vanilla-like scents, and it did not disappoint at all. I get compliments on this scent frequently, usually people saying it reminds them of French toast. The scent feels young and delightful, and is top 3 scents for me easily.

My problem with most imaginary authors scents is that they all smell beautiful they just never last very long. This fragrance is the best smelling out of all of them and lasts the longest. It's super strong, I wore 3 sprays and about 20 people over the course of the day told me I smelled nice. This stuff lasted an easy 8 hours and projected like crazy. Easily a new favourite, best gourmand ever 10/10.

Crazy sillage and longevity, someone literally smelled me from a room away and this lasted me an entire day. (As of now, it has lasted me a whole 14 hours), and I'm pretty sure I only sprayed half a spritz on my left wrist. The smell reminds me of a good maple syrup, but maybe slightly more smoky/burnt in the beginning. It drys down to a more pleasant sweet scent/regular maple syrup. I love it.

At the start it smells like a slightly warm maple syrup, as it it moves on it turns into a slightly more normal version of syrup you would expect, the waffle cone is in the background but not to noticeable, the caramel really shines as well. sillage is insane and i get smelt from rooms apart and i feel like it lasts forever. 10/10 gourmand one of the best in my collection.

A falied blind buy of mine. Smells nothing like the notes listed, it's kinda repulsive and borderline unwearable. What I get is dark burned coffe powder, maybe a little bit of vanilla, but mostly a not really sweet, synthetic and weird bitter syrupy smell that kinda smells like vomit. A huge disappointment 😔 (other than the insane performance)

This is the only AI fragrance in my collection. It is also the strongest, most beast-mode performer in my collection. This lasts over 12 hours on me and has a sizeable projection. This smells straight up like maple syrupy waffle cone. Nothing more, nothing less. If that sounds like your thing, just remember to spray with restraint, haha.

Love it but be forewarned, this does not smell like an ice cream shop. Or an ice cream cone. A woman told me I smelled like a pancake and she was correct. Smells EXACTLY like hot maple syrup. Thats IT. This is great for me because I love the smell of syrup. It's also super long lasting and strong which is another bonus.

I didn't think I'd like this. Way too sweet for my usual tastes but that's the fun of a sample set, trying new things. It's quite straight ahead for an IA scent but has the usual crazy longevity Some days what you really need is a big cosy vanilla hug, especially in the cold weather.

So so so beautiful - very realistic waffle and honey scent. The opening is very realistic waffles, and a vanilla and honey scent lingers on your skin all day. I do love vanilla gourmands so this is personal opinion, but this smells delicious to me. You will smell edible and sweet.

This fragrance is very good smelling. like you entered a sugar coated waffle store and asked for extra caramel fudge! very nice scent but hard to wear. i dont reach for this that often because of how difficult it is to wear. also extremly strong and overpowering. 1-2 sprays max

Warm and sweet, like a freshly made waffle cone. A bit salty, making it not "just sweet". This one is so yummy :3 also a bit creamy cuz the whipped cream >_< , nice longevity as well. Cant say I get more vanilla or caramel , it literally smells just as a warm waffle cone :3

Update 2: I was a little harsh, this one is really not that bad, it just kinda shocked me at first. You need to be ready for the weirdness of it. It's sweet, but not in a way that you would think. I would like it even more if it were a tiny bit more vanillic.

I honestly did not expect to like this based on the notes and how sweet it was,....but some days all you want is the comfort of smelling like a great big dessert and I'm here for it. A little goes a long way and lasts forever, like a lot of IA .

Photorealistic Maple. This one just smells like a vanilla waffle ice cream cone at the state fair. It's mouthwatering yes; but you need to layer this with something to make it seem a bit more complex. Anyways, masterpiece for its photorealism.

Yep. That's waffle cone, alright. Great gourmand and it lasts for a long time. It is strong and I enjoy it. It's a bit plastic-y maybe not but in a bad way. Something I'd wear when I want to smell like the sweetest treat known to the world.

The smell is divine and reminds me of a caramel frappe. Please only spray once though, or you’ll embarrass yourself in public because of how much it projects. I sprayed it twice and everyone left the building I was in covered in caramel.

A very universal but very signature scent. This is something that is warm and comforting to an anxious wife but as such needs to be used as rarely so she doesn't become immune to the effect. In general no quips whatsoever with scent.

I'll never smell this the same after the whiff of wafflecone incident. Amazing scent though would reccomend if you like hyper realistic gourmand scents. ITS VERY STRONG SPRAY AT YOUR OWN RISK

This is the most realistic gourmand that i have ever smelled. Very much like pancakes, waffles and maple syrup. 10/10 would buy again. This will be my signature gourmand.

DROOLING. imo it's kinda like that smell when you walk past a funnel cake stand at a fair oooorrrr pancakes drowning in syrup with a dusting of cinnamon. so yummy!

Original batch was more vanilla ice cream heavy, this newest batch is more cinnamon forward! Great to layer over more musky earthy scents to sweeten them up.

I need to add to my review of this. It caused me not to sleep well. The abrasive spiced cream woke me up. Already a heat wave....
