Bull's Blood

And now for something completely different, as they say in Monty Python. I agree wholeheartedly with @betsywoolbright’s review! I decided to try bull’s blood because I have been exploring animalics, and I was also looking for my holy grail of rose-patchouli accord. I also read each of the off the wall reviews, and it intrigued me. The reviews on basenotes are particularly entertaining. Back when the Harry Potter every flavor beans were released, I intentionally tried the grossest flavors (puke, earwax, and dirt, to name a few) to see how they compared to reality. Hence, I am the person who reads wild reviews and must try. Bull’s blood has none of the ick that people described. Bull’s blood opens with rose and patchouli supported by costus. I’ve smelled costus before, to me it smells like a lambswool teddy bear my aunt made for me when I was little. I can’t actually smell the costus outright in bull’s blood but I know it’s there because this smells like an old fashioned glamorous lady’s perfume, when animalics were the base for sexy perfumes. People mentioned cast iron skillet smells... I get none of that. And I cook with cast iron. Nothing metallic or salty at all. In other words, no actual blood smell. Bull’s blood quickly changes. As it dries, those three tops notes I just listed step to the back and it’s led by black musk and softly spicy tobacco. Some reviewers have suggested they smell sandalwood, and I agree that I smell that, too. And that’s how it wears: black musk, tobacco, and sandalwood mostly. The black musk turns this frag more masculine. It smells great! Very smooth. It’s a love. I’d buy it for my guy, but he isn’t a musk wearer. I think bull’s blood makes an excellent cool weather frag because of it’s tobacco and subtle costus which creates a coziness. Projection and longevity are great as well, so it can hold up in the cold weather.

Apparently scrolling through the comments here. It is a love or hate fragrance, mostly. I am in the Love category. At first i sprayed and was like "humm, this is light in the air." Them BAM it hit me. All of a sudden an intense, deep, unique, earthly aroma that is right up my alley . The two main notes I get that really hit you are the tobacco and the Patchouli. Slight rose in background. Minimally animalic undertones, but its really balanced. If you dont love those notes, its not for you. I tend to love heavier fragrances. This is bold. Definitely a fall or winter scent. I think most fragrances can be worn at night too. To me, the majority of fragrances out there are unisex, but i dont see many women reaching for this one. I guess unless your tastes are like mine. The silage is strong, and I only went with three sprays. The dry down is really smooth. it settles down and doesnt scream in your face. Again tobacco and patchouli still present, along with the musk. It does smell good, i have to admit. Its just if you dont like the notes being presented, you aren't going to like it. Its not a beginner fragrance and youre probably not going to wear it for the compliments. There really is not shock value to this fragrance. Its not in that repulsive type category of secretions magnifiques. Its just a heavy fragrance. Its kind of how people review real oud in fragrances. Not for everyone, even if its done really well mixed with other notes. A lot dont like it and their nose cant detect the beauty of the notes. To each their own. I like Bulls Blood for sure, but it wouldn't be something id wear on date night. Each fragrance has their place. Nice job Josh Meyer.

Bull’s Blood is undoubtedly one of the most interesting fragrances I’ve smelled and most certainly the most interesting fragrance I own. Imaginary Authors has always surprised me, the fragrances I expected to love are almost never the ones I end up loving this being a perfect example. Imaginary Authors is a brand you NEED to sample. I expected to love Memoirs of a Trespasser and loathe Bull’s Blood for instance and I absolutely adore this scent and feel largely indifferent when it comes to Memoirs. Bull’s Blood is masterfully blended, some people say they only smell rose or they only smell patchouli however for me what I smell is Bull’s Blood the fragrance. Bull’s Blood is very dry and slightly metallic to my nose, I do pick up on a blood accord but not in an off putting way if that can be believed. When I first smelled this off a sample I recoiled it didn’t even smell like a fragrance to me it smelled exactly like I remember old barns smelling having grown up in a rural area. However the more time I spent wearing it the more it captivated me, and now I even own a full bottle and would even call it my signature scent. Now that I’ve given it time to grow on me what I smell is a beautifully dark smooth and dry seductive scent with strong performance, that smells unlike anything else. For me it’s a clear 10/10 however I realize I’m likely in the minority with my opinion, SAMPLE THIS please otherwise you very well might regret the $95 price of admission.

I didn't think I would like this at all, and purposely put off trying it until an evening I knew I wasn't going out. I'm not overly fond of rose to begin with, and a lot of the reviews of Bull's Blood make it out to be stinky and barnyard-ish. I love musks, the skankier the better, and even I was a bit afraid to take this for a drive. However there is nothing skanky or barnyard animal about this fragrance at all for me. The rose is deep, and very realistic to my nose. The costus is fairly prominent in the first ten minutes, and I'm guessing that and the patchouli is what gives the fragrance it's more animalistic vibe, but the effect is pleasant. Then tobacco drops in to say hi, mixing and mingling. There is a somewhat coppery hit to the rose, and it does evoke the blood of a bull with roses. It dries down to a rosy musk, with that coppery heaviness still lurking in the background. It's masculine, but beautiful. Very luxurious, and has made me rethink my stance on rose.

This is my first Imaginary Authors purchase. When I first saw the name of this fragrance, I was hooked. I bought a sample to make sure it wasn't a blind buy and it did not disappoint to the name. This fragrance is fierce, almost sacrilegious. It smells like erotic hot summer days, metal roses, and Sunday mass. The scent of erotic summer days envelopes you, evoking memories of heated embraces under the blazing sun and whispered promises amidst tangled sheets. Each inhalation reveals a new layer of complexity, as the metallic tang of the rose intertwines with the sweet floral notes, leaving an indelible impression on the senses. Yet, amidst the heady rush of desire, there is a quiet solemnity that lingers in the background, reminiscent of a serene Sunday mass. Creating an aura of reverence and grace. Anyway, I highly recommend to those who embrace their sexuality with confidence.

Whoa! This has got some boots on it! As noted below, it reminds me also a little of MdPG Parfum d'Habit, except swap the leather note for iris. Funnily enough there is no iris listed in the official notes, but I get it big time. Costus is listed, but I've never smelled that in nature, so I'm not sure. Does Costus smell a little like iris? Either way, Bull's Blood is outstanding, primal and somewhat brutal. I get a nice dirty patchouli matched perfectly against a very dry rose note. There's a little tobacco and musk in the background and this unmistakeable iris-like waxy note tying it all together. This is patch & rose with some tobaccy and it's a dry, dark, primordial delight! It's unisex, leaning towards masculine, has great throw and it's still going strong after 6hrs on me so far. This one's a keeper methinks! Great review btw numcks!

I got a sample of Bull's Blood from Imaginary Authors with my purchase. Yesterday, one hour before I went out to run, I sprayed some on my wrist. OMG! I thought I was going to gag and die. It was such a strong and unpleasant odor. I really didn't know what notes to pick out, it was that overwhelming. One hour later when I went on my run, I smelled something really sweet and nice. I was wondering what it was and smelled my wrist. I couldn't believe it, that overwhelming strong opening had turned into a soft rose, patchouli scent. I smelled it throughout my run and made me feel really good. When I got home I took a shower and I could still smell it after that. So, I don't know if I should buy a bottle because first I have to go through the unpleasant, overwhelming phase to get to the beautiful fragrance that Bull's Blood really is.

Now this is an interesting one. . .One part revulsion, one part compulsion. Dark rose and patchouli are prominent, which are rational, respectable, a touch feminine, but assaulting that is a brutal, hemoglobin/amino/metallic/fecal violation that is both a tad disgusting, but also addictive - like the inability to look away from a bad accident/crime scene (bullfight?) This fragrance appeals to the primordial instinct to murder and mayhem lurking in our most repressed introns. It stimulates the same neurons that fired in the minds of the Roman citizens at the Colosseum and the unwashed masses in the town squares of medieval Europe who cheered on the executioner eviscerating the condemned. It stokes areas of my brain that I did not know I had, and wish I didn't. I hate it, but I love it, and I cannot turn away.

Yea it's terrific. I don't find it nearly as challenging or off-putting as some of the reviews suggest. I'm way too deep into this hobby, and I will often scout out vintage bottles of perfume at antique stores. It's a fun way to experience the past. Bulls Blood smells like many of those ancient chypres that have gone off a little. It's syrupy, slightly animalic, yellow floral, stale, dry carraway, and resinous labdanum/patchouli to me. It smells like dark history and black and white movies playing in an empty theatre. It doesn't smell like blood at all. The animalic notes are there in the beginning, but it's not gross. This honestly smells like something people would have worn in the 1930's.

Are there ANY real perfume lovers here? All of these terrible reviews make me question. Bulls Blood is a Patchouli bomb. Smokey, earthy, musky with a touch of floral. Every single time I wear it.. I get compliments. Especially from men. It is STRONG & I adore wearing it all year round. The more it sits.... The more delectable it becomes. There is something so addictive about it. It's honestly one of the best Patchouli fragrances I've found. I would LOVE to get my hands on an original bottle. This one is reformulated & although it is GORGEOUS.. I know it is only a ghost of the original. I will agree it is not for everyone but if you are atrue Patchouli lover.. You will love this one.

How extraordinary! It smells just like the notes listed. Deep red rose with patch on the opening. I have no idea what costas smells like so I can't comment. I definitely get the black musk and tobacco which come much more to the fore after 30 mins or so. The musk and tobacco are not strong though. It's not surprising that I love the red rose and patch. Now I can't smell blood so I find the title bemusing. My skin must do something to it. It smells quite feminine on me! All the dislike is puzzling me. This would make a nice summers afternoon fragrance.

I was a little skeptical going into this one. Sometimes niche perfumers will focus too much on trying to tell a story and end up creating something that's just gross. Not to say perfumes like secretions or hyrax shouldn't exist, but I thought this would fall into that kind of experimental category. But thankfully that's not the case. This one is totally wearable, unique, and interesting. It smells like blood but it's not the primary note. It also smells like a dark basement, like an empty cigar box. It's great.

I’m terrified to write this review as I know how much people loathe this fragrance for what are really perfectly sound and logical reasons. But I love it. My husband finds it sexy on me. And perhaps because I enjoy horses, one of my favorite authors is Hemingway and I love and have been lucky enough to experience the beauty of country life my nose “gets it”. Frankly I don’t often like oud fragrances but to my nose this reads like a very vintage inspired cousin of the oud classics. To each their own I guess.

Incredible! Magnificent! I could go on and on with the praises. At first spray, I had visions of refined, elegant gentlemen enjoying sangria and tapas in a bar along the coast of Spain. This fragrance speaks of class, confidence, luxury, elegance and sexuality. It is bold with a slight air of arrogance. Bull's Blood lasts many hours on my skin and commands attention for 6+ hours on me with 4 sprays! Hats off to Imaginary Authors for this MASTERPIECE!! 10/10

I wanted to smell off putting, I wanted to wear a perfume that kept men away, I wanted to smell like decay. This does that, and I LOVE it. It’s actually a super nice, musky, spicy sent. It lingers and I’ve only ever gotten compliments while wearing it. If you wanna smell like the final girl in a horror movie, smoking an expensive french cigarette while sitting outside of a barn after being soaked in blood, this is for you.

A rare costus perfume. Costus is an amazing material that comes from a tropical plant but smells like deer musk, animalic, spicy and intimate dirty. Costus however never takes you all the way to the animal's bottom, but stops at the very edge of an amber cliff that descends into a sea of patchouli.

this is the hot breath of a ravenous animal on the back of the neck. spiced & sacred, almost, like some ancient god buried beneath the floorboards of a church. a living thing sleeping and waiting in a smoky, claustrophobic den. very intense and powerful fragrance, full of body & spirit.

I love this scent so much I had to write a review to balance out the opinions here, as it is no doubt an understandably divisive scent. To me, I get sour apple, rose, sandalwood(?), patchouli and musk.. along with/ combining to a dull metallic and bright, yet bold scent. A+

i dig this but its definitely not for the faint of heart. its bitter and hot metallic, like accidentally biting your tongue and drawing blood. the patchouli is smoky and dries down to be a bit more floral and a sweeter tobacco, before its been smoked.

The quiet Alpha nomadic cowboy brawler scent. Brilliant, offensive, uses facial expressions more than words, will draw blood if you get in his way, gives absolutely no fucks. Just IS. King shit right here.

If anyone is looking for something similar hands down try Rose Fantôme by Lvnea!!!!! You are welcome!!! That said, If anyone has a bottle of this I would LOVE TO BUY THE O.G! Xxxxx

I sprayed a sample and audibly gasped. It's bold, woody, so unique. A statement scent.

first time i smelt it. hated it. 2 months later, i fell in love with it

A masculine, challenging, relatively linear fragrance. Not for everyone, you do need some maturity/experience with perfumes to appreciate it. Leather and tobacco are the two most prominent notes. Just underneath, you smell the rose and in the background you get an animalic accord with a patchuli that makes it more earthy and soily. The dry-down is a smoky, wet tobacco (maybe with some vetiver and a resinous woody note that I kinda smell but cannot identify. I wonder if it also has a bit of amber in its musk accord) combined with a slightly animalic leather. I do not know costus smell but apparently part of its animalic character comes from it. This is not a fresh,clean & sweet perfume so don't expect any compliments and do not overspray. It is how a cowboy/hunter would smell in cold weather. Or how a luxury, tobbaco shop kinda smells. Bull's Blood took some time to grow on me but the more I smell it the more I appreciate it. It is definetly a colder-weather fragrance and not one of those that are crowd pleasing and very easy to wear. More casual than formal due to its roughness and animalic quality. I'd actually feel a bit weird wearing this at the office. The sillage is average (about an arm's length) so you won't be a tobacco-leather bomb walking around but a bit too challenging and not made for these formal/semi-formal/smart-casual situations. I mostly think of it as a casual, fall/winter smell that you want to have relatively close to your skin as if you got it from a place you've been rather than a bottle you sprayed. If that makes sense. I also find it to smell better on skin and especially warm areas (inside of elbow and neck) as you getter a much sweeter tobacco-leather rather than in clothes, wrist, or hair (where it remains quite animalic and rough). I had good but limited time (thank you lockdowns) wearing it in social gatherings, mostly outside . It can complement well a bad-boy look and "not a f*** given" attitude, i.e. blue jeans/leather jacket/plain t-shirt/rugged clothes, beard, bottle of beer during a BBQ, or casual, cheap drinks with friends in town. Good for day or night, who cares, but way too much for the summer. That "alpha nomadic brawler" scent from a comment below, spot on. By the way, not a female or unisex scent. Ladies, please, don't. This perfume somewhat replaced CH Men Prive for me and it is my go-to leather fragrance at the moment. Less refined, simpler, more rugged and animalic, without that generic, mass appealing character. On that note, I do not consider it (or any other IA) a niche fragrance (in the sense of luxury niche such as Creed, Floris, Perfums de Marly, Maison Francis Kurkdijan, M. Micallef, etc). It is an indie, artistic fragrance that does tell a story, with that slight, home-made/DIY aura (which is fantastic, imo). Lastly, I do not get any blood. It's that patchouli-animalic musk-leather combination that is supposed to smell blood and you can imagine it to be blood, but it's not prominent or realistic. Nowhere close other perfumes where a blood accord is in your face (e.g. Beaufort's Tonnere; a well-crafted, unwearable monstrosity where blood is a realistic and a major part of its heart). Final thoughts: A smoky, animalic leather with a bit of rose, made for men, best suited for casual wear and a bad boy, zero f***s given attitude. Do sample it if you are into that.

A fragrance without balance is no fragrance in my book and Bull's blood does a very good balancing act. I deliberately try not to read too many reviews before I try a fragrance for the first time. This one kept it's allure (except for a few mentions in the Cobra/canary reviews.)until I eventually did wear it, I honestly didn't know what to expect. I think the 'skankiness' is overstated but definitely present in the first couple of hours anyway. Opening is bright and metallic at first but dirty at the same time and quickly Rose and costus are dominant. The rose becomes full bodied, deep and darkly sweet but offset with something slightly unpleasant. It is a barnyard type fecal note but nothing too bad. Reminds me of the slightly manure like smell you get with a nice cuban cigar...so tobacco although not obvious might just be in here? Perhaps a rose that's been fertilized with Bull's shit (not lies) rather than Bull's blood? You know what though? I'm actually not complaining because it offers up a very interesting nasal conundrum...do I like this or not? Well I think it's very clever and captures what I think Josh Meyers intended. So if you are a lover of impassioned, animal or rose fragrances this will be right up your street. I would draw a parallel with my love of red wine. I was always somebody who enjoyed the mid bodied, fruity wines and saw nothing wrong with a nice Merlot or cabernet sauvignon. As your tastes develop though you start to enjoy more full bodied affairs like Spanish Rioja. It's much the same with fragrance. Bloods blood is quite brave but not too carried away, it's refined enough to appeal to a wider range of people than you might first expect. The opening is okay but I'm not the biggest rose guy at the best of times and although I find it interesting I wouldn't wear it. However, I will say of the deep drydown (after 8 hours or so) that it is one of the most beautiful skin scents you could imagine. This is much like Montale aouds the strong rose and oud takes hours to become a lovely creamy remnant. I think it must be the patchouli/rose and musk which remains with none of that unpleasantness. Bulls blood is worth checking out.

Based on these reviews, I expected Bull's Blood to be difficult to wear and quite stinky. But I actually really liked it. It doesn't suit me, but it deserves its due. Bull's Blood opens up with a blast of rose and something slightly sweet, most likely the tobacco. Very quickly, an animalic note develops; this is most likely the costus. It's not fecal or dirty, just very "alive," for lack of a better term. Overall, the opening of this fragrance is a "metallic rose." I'd hazard to say it smells a bit like...bull's blood. Bull's blood sprinkled on rose petals. It's odd, but also intriguing. I don't get any patchouli in this fragrance for the first hour or so. When it does develop, it plays second fiddle to the rose, and it doesn't smell like incense in a head shop--this patchouli is much smoother and more earthy. The musk becomes stronger and stronger as the day goes on. At the end of its lifespan, Bull's Blood is a rose-over-musk scent with slight animalic overtones. I think the reason this doesn't "suit me" is because it somehow feels very masculine to me. Now, I'll wear all kinds of fragrances that are traditionally recommended for men, including outright "por Homme" flankers. But wearing Bull's Blood makes me feel like I'm in a beat-up leather jacket that's two sizes too big for me. The sillage is relatively moderate, though you could spray 3-4 times if you like a heavier perfume. I got pretty good staying power out of this one: almost 12 hours, and I could still smell it faintly after I showered.

Intrigued by the reviews and the name of the scent, I ordered a sample directly from an authorized retailer. My first thought upon spraying it was “no”. I think I initially reacted that way because I imagined my husband would not appreciate it, being that it’s such a super strong fragrance and definitely rather masculine. (I am a female who loves ‘masculine’ scents, but my hubby not so much, lol.) However, after sampling it a couple of times over a few days I have to admit I’m digging it....although honestly, I don’t think it’s very “wearable”. It does in fact have a metallic overtone, and a huge presence of patchouli which is nicely rounded out by rose and supported by earthy, aromatic notes. The reason I like it is because I LOVE patchouli and rose (especially together) so it turns my crank in a weird kind of way. But the reality is, it probably will turn off most people who smell it on you. My experience with fragrance is that the vast majority of people don’t appreciate complex fragrances and certainly not strong notes like rose and patchouli. This might be something you buy a small decant of just to enjoy yourself, but you wouldn’t be able to wear it on a date, or to the office, or around your friends etc. without someone complaining lol. As with all the other reviews here, my respect to the perfumer for the unique boldness in this fragrance and the fascinating and repulsive story it portrays. It is definitely a piece of fragrance art and could be enjoyed simply for that.

I need to give some serious love to Bull's Blood! I am pretty sure the negative connotations are just the power of suggestion. To my nose, it is a straightforward patchouli/rose with woody/musky base. I am not sure what costus smells like, so I'm just assuming it lends to the woodiness. I also detect a hint of tobacco, which I enjoy. I detect absolutely nothing bloody or meat-like or fecal or urinous. This perfume smells, to me, exactly the way one would expect a perfume should, with this given note pyramid. The only unlisted notes I detect are woods. The patchouli is almost certainly an aromachemical, but it is done well. It could be natural, but I'm under the impression that IA mostly only uses synthetics. The patchouli itself could be the source of the woody notes, and indeed all the other notes take a back seat to patchouli in this perfume. It smells similar to the patchouli used in L'artisan Parfumeur's Voleur de Roses, although the perfumes aren't similar to each other. Bull's Blood is for fans of patchouli, for lovers of a basic patchouli/rose accord. I might caution you against this one if you're susceptible to smelling poop after other reviewers claim to do so, though. Because of the polarizing nature of patchouli, this isn't a safe blind buy but samples are cheap. Also, a little goes a long way. Some IA perfumes are super strong, and this is one of them. I strongly recommend this underrated, yet notorious, perfume if you enjoy the listed notes.

The opening is sour green rose. I can tell the costus is in there, it reminds me of my mom's back porch when they're blooming. It is a distinctly challenging opening; strong, sour, and strange. There's almost a fetid sweetness. It doesn't immediately smell "good" at all. But there's something really compelling about it. I had to resist the urge to scrub it and test another day because I could tell that it was probably too much for my workplace.The coworker who hates perfume called me "stinky" and said I smelled like patchouli and mothballs. But another coworker said she was going to follow me around all day because it's like her favorite scent; she specifically mentioned sandalwood and patchouli and said it had an incense vibe. The comments were made within 10 minutes of eachother at the tail end of the opening; about 40 minutes after application. The drydown lingers for hours in a lovely, dusty patchouli/tobacco. I kept sniffing at my wrist and dusty is definitely the strongest feeling about it for me. Really good smelling "dusty." It's strong; one spray to one wrist was noticeable to others for several hours. Overall, I think it's a solid like but not something I'd choose very often; the opening pushes it into novelty for me.

truly fucking crazy. i got a sample of this because i heard it was weird and sprayed it unsuspectingly before a couple hour errand run, huge mistake. i've been smelling this nonstop for two days and have been teetering on the edge of a headache the whole time. that said, this fragrance is truly unique and sticks with you. smoky, musky, wet, i can imagine this being extraordinarily hot on the right person but probably not on me in a walmart at 11 am. it was definitely very rosy, almost sweet on my skin, which coupled with overwhelming musk is probably lending itself to my perception of it as sexy. i almost wondered if there was some secret gourmand note in there, but i can't stress enough that it is obscene and devious. i went for lunch with my mom on the day that i sprayed it and felt like a deranged pervert for allowing her to smell this on me. it is the cold but erotic embrace of the meanest, coolest person youve known. if i had the money to throw around i can see myself buying a bottle of this for the rare lapse in judgment when i want to smell crazy, but not today, satan. not today.

This was a bonus sample Imaginary Authors was kind enough to include with my order of The Complete Works sample set. While I am thankful they included it, I have been terrified to try it. I have kept it loose inside the book shaped box with the other samples and every time I open it, all I can smell is blood. It's been.... Disconcerting. I've also been hesitant because Patchouli and rose, it's two main accords, are my two least favourite traditional perfume ingredients. This seemed like a match doomed to fail. But today was the day to spray and.... I kind of love it?! It's dark, earthy, spicy, and bold. There's something antique about it in a good way. The blood note is there but sitting well behind the best patchouli and darkest rose I have ever smelled in my life. As it dries the sweet note comes forward and, unfortunately, starts making the whole affair very syrupy on me. Which, sadly, takes it out of the running for something I would wear. But boy did this teach me to check my assumptions at the door... Or the book cover, as it were.

This is a like, not love. It is primarily tart rose and patch, not particularly original there. The only odd note initially disconcerting is a urinous, fecal note. If this was an oud,I wouldn't be surprised, but it's not and the fecal note is more pronounced and "clear" than it is in an oud where many other, even floral or fruity notes are present. I'd call this a dirty, sexy rose, a scent that was sprayed on long and strong for a night clubbing that wound up having hot fun in the sheets with some illicit kink. I don't get tobacco of any kind which is a shame because that would tilt me toward greater fondness and there is some vaguely chemical smell, indistinct, nebulous. Try it before buying--I can see why some might really like it, and just don't think about the name. If they had named it "Hot August" or something, it'd get higher point values.

I really didn't find Bull's Blood as shocking or challenging as the reviews here suggested. At heart this is a simple, but extremely smooth rose/patchouli combo. It opens a little strangely, with a herbaceous, sweet, almost metallic costus note that quickly fades into a dark, earthy tobacco. The tobacco holds stage for 5-10 minutes or so, getting sweeter with time, and then slowly and deliciously fades over the next few hours into one of the smoothest rose/patchouli combinations I've ever smelled. I'm not usually a big patchouli fan, but here it's dry, warm, smooth and lacks the harsh, gravelly vibe it often has. The rose is dark, bruised and jammy. Adding a lovely sweet, sticky chord to what is otherwise a very dry frag. Definitely unisex, overall dark, rich, sweet and dry. Longevity is stellar, sillage is at the upper end of moderate.

I won this in a beyond-generous giveaway from Imaginary Authors. I was scared to test it based on the reviews, but I really like it! As the people who have voted on the prominence of each note have indicated, it's mostly a dirty patchouli and rose scent (reminiscent of L'Artisan Parfumeur Voleur de Roses, another one I love). I don't know how Josh Meyer did it, but the animalic accord is done in a fascinating way. It's kind of like a hay note, but a little bit barnyard/petting zoo. The thing is, it doesn't hang around in a heavy way and torment you. It kind of darts in and out of range, so that sometimes you catch it, and sometimes you don't, and it's just the patchouli and rose. It doesn't wear out its welcome. This fragrance can work easily for men, and I'm a woman and I like it too.

I can honestly say I really really like this. I’m half Hungarian and we have a red wine called bulls blood. Big, robust gut wrenching stuff. This reminds me of that....I get tannin like leather saddles mixed with saddle soap and hoof tar. If you have horses you know what I mean. I don’t get the blood but I guess I do get the urine smell, like when I muck the horses out. After a very long time the other notes come out, the rose, patchouli and I get a hint of sandalwood. This is not for the faint hearted, I sprayed it above my bed and when I got into bed it was overwhelming, I couldn’t sleep at all, but over the next few nights it’s turned into the most gorgeous smell. I think this would be great as a candle or Reed defuser. Longevity is second to none.

Boozy! So full of a great whiskey, cork sealed. That's what I get for a top note. Then I get the tobacco, but the booze really stands out to me at first, although it's not listed as a note. Also, cedar wood chips. This smells like I have my arms around and am about to kiss a swarthy, handsome man drinking whiskey after he's just opening a fresh pack of cigarettes in a wood-paneled bar in the 1960s. I wish. To be worn while reading Hemingway, most definitely.

On trouve effectivement une note sous jacente de sang bien prononcée. Ensuite cette odeur de rose séchée fanée que je retrouve dans funerie de pineward, un de mes parfums préférés.

The top note is quite unbearable, really smelling like blood. I need to wait until its heart and base note, and then I can say that l enjoy it. If you smell it from far, I mean not putting on your nose so close to your skin, it smells like incense, very Indian in a nice way, very mysterious. In short, it is like Josh Meyer, the perfumer, says, "This is a powerful scent for someone who knows what they want." Otherwise, it would bring you embarrassment.

I found this to be a nice, albeit quirky rose scent. Just after dousing myself with it, the wife got home and all hell broke loose. She claimed that I smelled like an old man that just had urinated on himself while suffering from a bad case of gingivitis....doctors I tell ya. Had to open all the windows and scrub it or run the risk of sleeping in the woodshed. All in all, an interesting scent that I will keep for those lonely, guilty pleasure moments.

This is pungent,sexy,enchanting. My husband likes it too, but thinks it is only appropriate for men to wear. I'd rather smell it on myself than someone else, though, because it seems almost too intimate of a scent to associate with someone else. Crazy good though. I can't drink enough of my wrist in. Wow. This perfume-it's making a whole movie in my head. So vivid. More like an Imaginary Screenwriter or director, this one.

Well, I have smelled a whole bunch of patchy rose perfumes, and this one doesn't stand out. I don't see why some people find it so... terrifying, though I am not invalidating their opinions, of course. I'm just saying that to me, this is a fairly standard variation on the theme. I would say that this reminds me of Frederic Malle Portrait of a Lady most of all. Please don't get me committed to a mental asylum.

It opens with a dried urine smell, mixed with something akin to cast iron. I assume that this is what's supposed to give off the blood vibe. It gradually calms down into the note of "photorealistic petting zoo goat" as the patchouli and the musk melds with the earthy rose and the tobacco. Unpleasant but transfixing and oddly comforting. I've never considered a full bottle of something repugnant before.

This one is hard to like. I almost clicked the dislike button, but in the end I decided that the rose based scent was interesting enough to not be torched. It does smell like blood, and unless you love rose, you will not find it worth a purchase. I will keep my decant and see if the desire ever arises to put it to work before I put it to pasture. I like it and recognize the artistry here. Quality fragrance with excellent longevity. Its a deep patchouli that sits upon syrup. very interesting and bold. Too thick for me to wear daily, but I would love this as a candle next to a luxurious bubble bath, while sipping champagne. For reference this smells very similar to Lush’s “Lord of misrule”

While I can see how some may be turned off to this scent, for some reason I love it. I'm usually not a big patchouli fan but this one is smoothed out (IMO) and smells great. I think if it wasn't named Bull's Blood, others might not have the association with a meat market. However, I love the name. My favorite of the IA line so far.

To those who are familiar with Histoires de Parfum's Petroleum, I think this is very similar but with a huge dose of civet added. It may be the patchouli, but to me it smells more animalic than patchouli. I don't smell any rose here. Massive longevity and very strong sillage; do not wear in a confined space.

Bull's Blood is not for anyone who likes a smile and a comforting pat on the back from inside their safe space. This is not for the sauvage or angels' share wearers. Hot fire, thick smoke and beastly musk. Rose and patchouli smoldering in a barn fire. Anger and distain in a bottle - I like it.

Very animalic, but not quite over the top. Pleasant and goes a bit fruity on my skin. Intriguing and unique fragrance, I heard it is now discontinued. 7/10
