Falling Into The Sea

Criminally underrated summer fragrance. I don't think it's too feminine or too flowery. Nor do I pick out a "dill pickle" scent that some people describe, but I think I know what you're saying. I can usually detect a dill note in Le Labo Santal 33 and also Old Spice Wilderness with Lavender deodorant. Beats me. I always assumed it was lavender oil reacting with another chemical (Aluminum compounds, acid from citrus, acid in sweat, etc.) But when I researched it a little bit, Santal 33 doesn't have lavender. I read all kinds of online theories about what causes the pickle note, from sandalwood oil to a violet-flower-derived aromachemical. That's interesting, because Santal 33 does have a violet note and Falling Into the Sea has "exotic flower notes". (Shrug) Any perfumer or wisened chemist want to inform us or wager a guess? Did the dill pickle people get an old (oxidized?) sample? (Double shrug) This for me, this was heads and shoulders above the rest of all the Imaginary Authors samples I tried. It has something that gives is a little "sparkle" and "pop" that fragrances like Chanel Allure Homme Eau Extreme and Roja Dove Elysium have above other average citrus freshies. Maybe it's the lychee and the weird "hot sand" accord and also maybe something else I can't put my finger on. The price is silly though. I can't see paying $105 for 50mL, especially if the longevity is not there. I mean, IS Dom Perignon good? Yes, absolutely. Is it "$75 per bottle good"? Ahh....NO. I once received an email from IA with something like a 10% off sale. ...Wow. Thanks. That brought the price down to $94.50 for 50mL before tax. I don't even remember if there was free shipping or not. Anyway, I keep hoping somebody will hate it and put it on eBay to recoup at least some of their money. Just hopefully it wasn't stored in a hot garage, because maybe that bottle will smell like dill pickles.

The name made me think it would be deeply oceanic, but Falling Into The Sea is heavy florals, lasting bergamot/grapefruit, and the distinct smell of hot sand(!!). However, sand is hotter further from the water, so with this fragrance there's really no danger of falling into the sea... burning your feet maybe, choking on florals perhaps... The shy aquatic element hints at beach air, rather than open ocean air. For me it's overshadowed by a super juicy, ripe fruitiness that weaves throughout the life of the scent. I think it's divine, addictive, and holds the whole thing together, although I do enjoy the sand, florals, and citruses individually. I really can pick out bergamot vs grapefruit - a testament to the quality, that they doesn't muddle together like a lot of other multi-citrus frags do for me. The citruses last a few hours, longer than usual on me. I agree with other reviewers: this would make a great room spray. It smells like a really nice, well-appointed vacation rental. Not candle-like in my opinion. The florals and warmth of the sand make it a nice clean laundry-type scent. I also get lemon verbena, which can lend a cleaning-solution vibe, but for me it's nostalgic. Even if all of that sounds good to you, sample before buying. I love FITS but I also get how it's polarizing because, like most IA creations I've tried, it Goes Hard. It's not delicate. It's a hammer, not a scalpel. And like some other IA fragrances, it feels like it doesn't deliver on what the name promised. Edit: I'm doing laundry and all the shirts I was wearing while sampling FITS during the week smell like fresh dill. No flowers or fruit. Interesting how that's what sticks around!

This and Sundrunk are the two different types of beach vacations that I have had in my opinion. Falling Into the Sea is the clean, and beachy family vacation that I used to go on as a kid. The opening smelling of citrus and a hint of nice sun tanning lotion. This is uplifting and airy, just the kind of scent that puts a smile on your face. This is a perfectly unisex fragrance in my opinion as its combination of bright and sparkly citrus' and this earthy sand really give it this beach vacation feeling. I have a 10 mL of this as will spray this upon myself summer mornings to really give myself that uplifting boost that I want to go through the day. It's citrus-y, juicy sweet, and the tiniest bit of white and yellow florals, and it's a perfect addition to any avid blue/fresh scent collection. I really wish they made a candle of this also because this is the type of fragrance that I want all of my linens and cloths smelling like it in the summer. I can see why this would be offputting for some people, as the combination of citrus and florals can come off more as a room fragrance rather than a perfume. In my opinion though they aren't mutually exclusive, and I would love to smell like this. If anything, this just shows how great this scent is that I would want everything to smell like it. The only problem that I have with this scent is the sparkly/mouth watering juicyness of the citrus dies down within an hour or so on my skin. Though my sister has worn this and that strong citrus blast lasts for multiple hours on her.

I'm so shocked that I love this&its very wearable *the story of this scent doesn't lie,it's the first salty scent I have ever tried&the first sea style fragrance I absolutely 💙 freaking love!!! Starts out salty sugarered citrus&the beach ,sea air salty with florals&happy sunshine in the best way possible,it's going to be my everyday spring summer scent I'll wear everday!!! The longevity is top notch &decent throw,never thought I'd love a salty 🧂 🌊 sea slightly floral freshie ,hintley sweet fragrance....1st time for me,I'll be trying other fragrance with this profile,I doubt they will top this,it really is fresh sea salty citrus style and very uplifting*happy,spring& summer ☀️ scent,perfectly unisex. It really smells like 2 lovers running thru citrus trees in the warm sunshine with cloudy overcast by the sea,by citrus 🌳 citrus trees&the wind is blowing with salty fresh air&she falls in& he dives in after her&now her pretty hair is drying with florals in it, in the most smooth way refreshing yet warm?&calm& alive, fresh scent after dry down&they dry off on the cliffs,really unique!!! Then again I'm not the biggest fan of main stream designer scents out there,so THATS why I like& love this!!! Imaginary Authors thank you!!!! Finally a citrus sea 🌊 salty scent that's beautiful &wearable ,wow•♡•

This one surprised me a little. At first spray, it's aquatic, fresh, fruity, floral and slightly soapy. It really reminded me of all the 'beach' scented/themed hand soaps you break out in the summertime. The citrus notes are balanced beautifully with the tropical blossoms, and the sand provides a sort of warm, mineral grit in the background. I think the way that all of these blend gives it that fresh and soapy quality. But what surprised me was how marine it smelled despite not having any notes specifically to that effect. The notes in this create that marine accord somehow without the heavy, salty aspect. It's very aquatic and undeniably beachy. It remains this way for most of the wear—aquatic, fresh, fruity, floral and soap-like—without undergoing much of an evolution. It becomes slightly less fruity and more floral throughout the wear, particularly the latter half, and also a bit soapier throughout the first half. This lasted for about ten hours on my skin, though it had faded much closer to the skin by that point. Overall, I loved this perfume. I'm not usually a fan of scents with a soapy quality but this one was great. Fun and nostalgic, warm and bright—it's the perfect summertime fragrance.
