Falling Into The Sea

Criminally underrated summer fragrance. I don't think it's too feminine or too flowery. Nor do I pick out a "dill pickle" scent that some people describe, but I think I know what you're saying. I can usually detect a dill note in Le Labo Santal 33 and also Old Spice Wilderness with Lavender deodorant. Beats me. I always assumed it was lavender oil reacting with another chemical (Aluminum compounds, acid from citrus, acid in sweat, etc.) But when I researched it a little bit, Santal 33 doesn't have lavender. I read all kinds of online theories about what causes the pickle note, from sandalwood oil to a violet-flower-derived aromachemical. That's interesting, because Santal 33 does have a violet note and Falling Into the Sea has "exotic flower notes". (Shrug) Any perfumer or wisened chemist want to inform us or wager a guess? Did the dill pickle people get an old (oxidized?) sample? (Double shrug) This for me, this was heads and shoulders above the rest of all the Imaginary Authors samples I tried. It has something that gives is a little "sparkle" and "pop" that fragrances like Chanel Allure Homme Eau Extreme and Roja Dove Elysium have above other average citrus freshies. Maybe it's the lychee and the weird "hot sand" accord and also maybe something else I can't put my finger on. The price is silly though. I can't see paying $105 for 50mL, especially if the longevity is not there. I mean, IS Dom Perignon good? Yes, absolutely. Is it "$75 per bottle good"? Ahh....NO. I once received an email from IA with something like a 10% off sale. ...Wow. Thanks. That brought the price down to $94.50 for 50mL before tax. I don't even remember if there was free shipping or not. Anyway, I keep hoping somebody will hate it and put it on eBay to recoup at least some of their money. Just hopefully it wasn't stored in a hot garage, because maybe that bottle will smell like dill pickles.

The name made me think it would be deeply oceanic, but Falling Into The Sea is heavy florals, lasting bergamot/grapefruit, and the distinct smell of hot sand(!!). However, sand is hotter further from the water, so with this fragrance there's really no danger of falling into the sea... burning your feet maybe, choking on florals perhaps... The shy aquatic element hints at beach air, rather than open ocean air. For me it's overshadowed by a super juicy, ripe fruitiness that weaves throughout the life of the scent. I think it's divine, addictive, and holds the whole thing together, although I do enjoy the sand, florals, and citruses individually. I really can pick out bergamot vs grapefruit - a testament to the quality, that they doesn't muddle together like a lot of other multi-citrus frags do for me. The citruses last a few hours, longer than usual on me. I agree with other reviewers: this would make a great room spray. It smells like a really nice, well-appointed vacation rental. Not candle-like in my opinion. The florals and warmth of the sand make it a nice clean laundry-type scent. I also get lemon verbena, which can lend a cleaning-solution vibe, but for me it's nostalgic. Even if all of that sounds good to you, sample before buying. I love FITS but I also get how it's polarizing because, like most IA creations I've tried, it Goes Hard. It's not delicate. It's a hammer, not a scalpel. And like some other IA fragrances, it feels like it doesn't deliver on what the name promised. Edit: I'm doing laundry and all the shirts I was wearing while sampling FITS during the week smell like fresh dill. No flowers or fruit. Interesting how that's what sticks around!

This and Sundrunk are the two different types of beach vacations that I have had in my opinion. Falling Into the Sea is the clean, and beachy family vacation that I used to go on as a kid. The opening smelling of citrus and a hint of nice sun tanning lotion. This is uplifting and airy, just the kind of scent that puts a smile on your face. This is a perfectly unisex fragrance in my opinion as its combination of bright and sparkly citrus' and this earthy sand really give it this beach vacation feeling. I have a 10 mL of this as will spray this upon myself summer mornings to really give myself that uplifting boost that I want to go through the day. It's citrus-y, juicy sweet, and the tiniest bit of white and yellow florals, and it's a perfect addition to any avid blue/fresh scent collection. I really wish they made a candle of this also because this is the type of fragrance that I want all of my linens and cloths smelling like it in the summer. I can see why this would be offputting for some people, as the combination of citrus and florals can come off more as a room fragrance rather than a perfume. In my opinion though they aren't mutually exclusive, and I would love to smell like this. If anything, this just shows how great this scent is that I would want everything to smell like it. The only problem that I have with this scent is the sparkly/mouth watering juicyness of the citrus dies down within an hour or so on my skin. Though my sister has worn this and that strong citrus blast lasts for multiple hours on her.

I'm so shocked that I love this&its very wearable *the story of this scent doesn't lie,it's the first salty scent I have ever tried&the first sea style fragrance I absolutely 💙 freaking love!!! Starts out salty sugarered citrus&the beach ,sea air salty with florals&happy sunshine in the best way possible,it's going to be my everyday spring summer scent I'll wear everday!!! The longevity is top notch &decent throw,never thought I'd love a salty 🧂 🌊 sea slightly floral freshie ,hintley sweet fragrance....1st time for me,I'll be trying other fragrance with this profile,I doubt they will top this,it really is fresh sea salty citrus style and very uplifting*happy,spring& summer ☀️ scent,perfectly unisex. It really smells like 2 lovers running thru citrus trees in the warm sunshine with cloudy overcast by the sea,by citrus 🌳 citrus trees&the wind is blowing with salty fresh air&she falls in& he dives in after her&now her pretty hair is drying with florals in it, in the most smooth way refreshing yet warm?&calm& alive, fresh scent after dry down&they dry off on the cliffs,really unique!!! This one surprised me a little. At first spray, it's aquatic, fresh, fruity, floral and slightly soapy. It really reminded me of all the 'beach' scented/themed hand soaps you break out in the summertime. The citrus notes are balanced beautifully with the tropical blossoms, and the sand provides a sort of warm, mineral grit in the background. I think the way that all of these blend gives it that fresh and soapy quality. But what surprised me was how marine it smelled despite not having any notes specifically to that effect. The notes in this create that marine accord somehow without the heavy, salty aspect. It's very aquatic and undeniably beachy. It remains this way for most of the wear—aquatic, fresh, fruity, floral and soap-like—without undergoing much of an evolution. It becomes slightly less fruity and more floral throughout the wear, particularly the latter half, and also a bit soapier throughout the first half. This lasted for about ten hours on my skin, though it had faded much closer to the skin by that point. Overall, I loved this perfume. I'm not usually a fan of scents with a soapy quality but this one was great. Fun and nostalgic, warm and bright—it's the perfect summertime fragrance.

The citrus and the sand is so photorealistic oh my goodness! It's like enjoying limoncello on the beach, a sweet citrus sorbet in the desert, your toes deep in the hot, silty sand, and as the shore rises to tickle your toes, lemon rinds reveal themselves from the wave. I typically shy away from citrus scents, they come off more as a freshener, but I should have known IA would be able to do it justice without smelling like Lysol or Fabulosa. In the dry down, a soft floral note is revealed, shifting to a bright, sour, yet smooth floral. This scent sits so perfectly on my skin, I smell like a siren bathed in citrus cream, topped with lemon zest. Picture this; you are falling to the bottom of a river filled with lemon tea, you slowly sink down, passing trout made from globs of lemon curd, seaweed from rinds of grapefruit. As you finish your descent, your body hits the silty ground, stirring up fallen petals from above. End scene. I also believe this scent could be used year round, even though it has notes typically reminiscent of Summer, something about this one melds well with colder days and nights. Another full size bottle I will have to snag from IA. 9.5/10.

Me, 1 minute ago: What in the reese's peanut butter fuck is 'hot sand accord'? Okay, whatever you say Imaginary Authors... Me, in the present: You fool. You imbecile. You absolute dim-witted fuck. Here's your dunce hat. A crown to signal the queen of all idiots everywhere! - Alright, with my attempt at some humour out of the way, I'm sure you can tell by now that I fucking love this stuff. I'm MASSIVELY impressed by two things: 1) this really does have a Hot Sand Accord. What the fuck? and 2) how they managed to PERFECTLY encapsulate the scent of a beach without relying on coconut or any of the other usual offenders to try and mimic the smell of sunscreen. That's still present here, but faintly. With it you get the sand, salt water and tropical fruits all in equal measure. I'm just bummed I only now discovered this. Sure, I ascribe to the 'I wear all my fragrances all year round' philosophy, so nothing's stopping me from wearing it, I'm just sad I have to wait almost a full calendar year to enjoy it at its best! Can't wait to make this my staple scent next summer.

This smells like sweet sunshine. It is what TF's Soliel Brulant was trying to achieve. Citrus, sand, sweetness, summer heat... just summer goodness. Fresh hot sand, citrus and like orange blossom, sweetness and mixed flowers... I think this will finally be my FBW summer fragrance. I love that it doesn't have coconut or any 'sunscreen' vibes - its a distillation of all the great things of a hot summer day. I think this should have been named Sundrunk and IA should have named the other one something like Fizzy Orange Soda. So many bergamot fragrances are adding salt and 'marine' vibes- I love that this doesn't. I can't stop smelling my skin. Buying! ETA: Bought the full bottle- in love. I think I finally remember what it smells like to me- the fruity sweetness is vaguely reminiscent of Juicy Fruit gum. I loved that when I was a child- I don't know if its the litchi combined with the citrus or what, but there it is. And I LOVE it!

No. 23 FITS served as my introduction to the IA brand. Having now smelled nearly every IA fragrance, FITS remains my favorite. This fragrance reminds me of a crisp summer day beach walk. The outfit of choice is clean, loose fitting, linen clothing. Just west of this beach is a lemon orchard whose aromas are carried by a warm breeze. As you walk along the sand, you can truly smell it beneath your feet. Super juicy grapefruit. FITS silage is moderate, and sometimes I wish it would scream just a little bit when I’m baking in the sun. One thing I do find lacking in FITS is depth. Although a wonderful fragrance, I’ve never found it to truly “fill” my nose. It’s so soft and clean, with nothing grounding it that it almost exists as a whaft of fragrance rather than the juice itself. Although I believe FITS to be unisex, some men will find this too feminine and light.

A lot of summer-centered fragrances like to slap you in the face with citrus. They scream "Lemon!" and then walk away, leaving you wondering where they went. This is unique in that it's not a slap, it's an embrace, and it doesn't saunter off into obscurity. I have suddenly fabulous luck as I have not one but two really nice citrus fragrances in the span of a few days (thank you, Christmas gifts). With this and Santalum Slivers by Kerosene, I don't need another summer citrus fragrance for the rest of my life. There are no water notes (in either of these fragrances), but it's not a missing element. If you really want that ocean tone, you could spray Salt by Scent Trunk or Atlas by Lattafa for that hit of salt. I sprayed this 4 hours ago and so far, it's still on my skin, and absolutely still on my clothes. I bet my jacket will still smell like this tomorrow.

this somewhat spring and summer, i wore this fragrance so much that i killed over half of my 50 ml. i absolutely adore falling into the sea. it ticks all boxes id want in a summer scent; heavy on the citrus, heavy on the sand, and heavy on the florals that all make me reminisce about vacation on the beach. the bite of lemon and cold air in this perfume really appeals to me personally, though it is a bit basic when you consider what the fragrance is outside of those 2 qualities. despite that, i find it unique in its own way; i cant help but remember biking around a coastal town with friends on a windy day, being hit with the crisp cold sea air, and that nostalgia keeps me craving it. maybe wearing it on all of my fun beach vacations in the past few years has made me impartial to its flaws, but im perfectly fine with that.

Falling Into the Sea is hands-down one of the most uplifting, addictive scents I’ve ever experienced. From the very first spray, you’re hit with an explosion of sun-drenched lemon and grapefruit so juicy and bright it almost sparkles. It’s like bottling the exact moment when your plane lands at a tropical paradise and you step into the sun for the first time. There’s a soft salty breeze and warm mineral undertone that wraps the citrus in this beautiful, beachy hug. It somehow captures carefree happiness, like golden sand between your toes and the laughter of summer in the air. This isn’t just a perfume—it’s a mood enhancer. I feel instantly lighter, happier, and just...better every time I wear it. Imaginary Authors nailed it with this one. If sunshine had a smell, this would be it. I’ll never be without a bottle.

I was ready for something to wear this summer and this hit the target. It is sharp citrus up front. I get no sweetness but there is definitely a fruit element from the lychee. As that sharpness diminishes you get salt and softness. But not softness as in powder. Softness like sitting with your feet in warm sand on a sunny beach. I see some complaints about it not being aquatic or marine enough but they've never claimed it as such. This is beach. Sandy, sunny beach. I thought I might be crazy, but to my shock and amazement the person below me agrees that this layers well with Cobra and the Canary. I assume it's because of the lemon note in the latter. You could wear this in the morning/afternoon and reapply with a little bit of Cobra and the Canary for a leathery edge when you go out for dinner.

Don't think I'm going to say anything new here, but this is straight up a day at the beach in a bottle. I evokes the exact smell your skin has after a hot day spent swimming in salty water and you just went back to reapply sunscreen on your sandy arms. I get where some others are coming from on the cleaning supply adjacent citrus notes, but the lychee cuts through all of that to me. I think Falling Into The Sea is very good at transporting you to the middle of summer. It's very unique compared to other warm weather scents that rely heavily on common notes like marine, soapy clean, or mineral. I do wish the longevity was better, but hey, I'm only using this a few times a year in the summer anyways. It's for special occasions, that being a day spent at the beach with people you love. Enjoy it!

It smells bright and happy, sweet and vibrant. I have been avoiding lemon for some reason (bad experience with a lemon liquor I think) but this is lovely. The sweet lemon and bergamot come forward first. It has a hint of sunscreen, and reminds me of some of the Hollister body washes (in a good way). The lychee comes out as it starts to dry. The sillage is pretty fair, and sticks around for a few hours. It has beach, sunny vibes and it definitely gives "warm sand". It reminds me of driving to the beach with my friends in high school, with the windows down and music loud. I get images of the girls in the car, with salty hair mixed with shampoo and detangler, warm skin and hours old sunscreen. I would definitely buy the bottle, and happily add this to my "beach scents" collection.

I had sampled this perfume years ago, and I thought about it constantly until I finally splurged and bought a bottle! to me, this scent is straight sunshine. it starts out with such a pure, bright, lemon scent that I just love. then it turns slightly more fruity with the lychee and grapefruit, but never becomes too sweet. after a couple hours is my favorite part. it turns into this lovely smell that reminds me of sandy, salty, sunscreen-y skin. like the walk back to the car after going to the beach. like the aftertaste of fresh lemonade. it reminds me of my trips to california and makes me yearn to go back. unfortunately I do feel like this fragrance is really weak, and I have to reapply it practically several times a day. despite that, I'm still a fan of this scent :)

Received a sample of this with FB purchase of Fox in the Flowerbed. OK here's the scenario... A visit to the beach. I don my best beachy boho threads along with a generous spritz of my nicest summery fruity floral perfume. I slop on a little sunscreen, I skip through the waves, I walk the shoreline, I sit for a while on the warm sand enjoying the cool ocean breeze. What I smell at the end of my visit is a sweet, salty body scent that's oh so gorgeous and I just want to keep sniffing...... the warmth, the salt and the hint of sweetness. It doesn't project into next week. It's subtle - more for the wearer than the audience but I find it intoxicating. I think I love Falling into the Sea. I still have a little of the sample left. Will probably buy a FB.

I almost thought this would be too feminine at first but once it settled it was fine. Maybe borderline unisex but I wasn’t uncomfortable wearing it. I tried it on a cloudy day to invoke happy sunshine as the website suggests. It did just that. Brightened the mood. It smells clean and classic but still modern and unique. I did not get anything off putting as other reviewers state. The initial hit was all citrus then the lychee and tropical flowers (frangipani I think? Tuberose? Idk) were the main notes throughout the wear. The citrus was detectable for a long while and didn’t fade quickly like most. I didn’t really get the sand thing but it definitely had a beachy vibe. It’s rather linear and not overly complex but still very enjoyable and pleasant.

I recieved a bottle of this today, marking the first scent I've tried out by imaginary authors. It also came with a sample scent of Every Storm a Serenade which I will try out later today. This was a blind buy, which I don't often do these days, but I am incredibly glad I gave this a try. This is by far my favorite beachy / aquatic scent I have tried, the warm sand scent really is spot on. The lemon and grapefruit come through strongest, with the warm sand scent weaving between them in a strong third place. This is absolutely beautiful and will likely be my signature scent this Spring anf Summer. I'm for sure going to need to try more samples from these guys.

First blast of clean fresh air and water, sweet lemon, something vaguely tropical.. I can't quite identify it. It brings images of a cold breeze when you're having a bright sunny day at a beach and yet it's not intensely marine or aquatic. After a minute, the lychee starts to come forward, sweet and fruity, still cool and breezy. Lovely! I have yet to name a signature freshie in my collection and I think this might be it. Unisex but leans feminine and best for hot weather. 6+ hours later: The light sweet lychee and lemon scent faded a bit and what remained was the vaguely tropical floral note, still going moderately strong on my skin.

my first few times wearing this, i let the citrus overwhelm me and i was given the impression that this was pretty but boring, and i was a little disappointed that the sand note wasn't as present as i'd hoped. *however,* after really sitting with this fragrance for a while and studying it more closely, i've finally got the sand!!! it's blended in there amongst the citrus and it's pretty well hidden, but when you do catch a full, rounded sniff of this, it's really something beautiful. the grapefruit does really shine, and while i do still wish the sand note was a little more present, this is still a five star fragrance for me 💛💛💛

Super citrusy opening, which fades quite quickly to a pleasant white floral, salty, sandy dry down. As close as I’ve come to a summer scent I truly love... I’m still not a huge fan of florals, and there’s definitely plenty here, but I really enjoy the true salty marine notes. I have to get pretty close to my skin to find them - I didn’t spray much, as the sample bottle spray nozzles are bad. Still, I generally find that “marine” scents are just like sunscreen and nothing like the actual sea, so I was surprised to find that underneath the florals there is a real salty, sandy skin.

Great for hot summer days. I would not say this is a very citrusy fragrance. it is more aquatic and sweet scent. This Litchi mix gives a melon vibe, not a prominent Kenzo melon, but a little sophisticated melon (read synthetic in a good way). Overall, it is a long-lasting, unisex, and pretty nice fragrance if you are looking for something not a typical lemon-verbena-lemongrass summer scent. There is something young and energetic. The most similar and familiar to me is Defy EDP Calvin Klein. POV best of the house: Falling into the sea, Every storm a serenade, O,unknown.

LOVE!!! notes work beautiful together. not a huge fan of citrus (like if mixed w sweet, floral etc.) VERY beachy sand litchi, lemon grapefruit, berg, exotic florals, - not really “tropical” (no coconut, vanilla etc). just more summery beach like sweet treats, sno comes w sunscreen, summer sun, sand ocean - loved Joehoff16 imagery, couldn’t say it better!!!! love the overall effect. Similar to Bond fire island? Less white florals . But still STUNNING! Will def enjoy my 10ml but prob not fbw - love IA tho, tons of faves - wears well, lasts.

Aptly named, this potion is all azure skies and cerulean seas. Opening with fresh, airy, ozonic notes, it immediately transports me seaside: I picture the immense blue of the Mediterranean. Open air, salty, filling the lungs. Heavenly. Then the dry down quietly transforms into a gentle mossy/grassy note. I detect a deftly blended oakmoss or vetiver that isn't listed. This is utterly unique and one of those rare fragrances that evokes the experience conjured by it's moniker. Absolutely love!

I recently sampled all the IA scents with my boyfriend and here is a dual review. My Review: this is a fragrance you would wear to the beach after sitting with it for a few hours I really noticed how white floral and almost vintage it was. I imagine those girls in the striped swimwear that went mid thigh and had t-shirt length sleeves. It's beautiful in a way I didn't expect to love and yet it's is another one I want in my collection. His review: that would smell good on you.

an amazing citrus fragrance imo. First of all i want to say how impressed i was by the performance, it lasted about 7 hours which i think is a really long time for a citrus fragrance. The scent is heavy on grapefruit in particular, with this sandy, kind of crispy vibe. I guess that's how they went for that sand feeling on this one. A really small hint of florals are also kind of sensible from the background, which adds the fragrance a more feminine and beatiful vibe. 8.7/10

This is by far one of the most beautiful citrus scents I’ve ever smelled. I blind bought falling into the sea for about $75 and it is well worth the price. When going to the beach this scent just fits perfectly. The mixture of the citrus and litchi is just perfect and the warm sand adds a cozy sunscreen kinda feel to it, but it’s not sunscreen smelling. It lasts forever and projects well. I would definitely recommend this to anyone

One of the only citrus scents I have that I would describe as “cozy”. The sweetness of the litchi does a good job of taming the sharpness of the citrus, and the warmth of the sand in the background makes this one pretty relaxing. One of my favorites from IA on its own, but if you're into layering I’d recommend trying this with a tea fragrance. That combo gives it kind of a beachy earl grey vibe.

This scent is amazing, especially in the dry down but it sits so close to my skin. Most fresh fragrances are basic and the same but this one is different. The main note I get throughout the time wearing this is grapefruit and that imaginary note of warm sand. The dry-down is fabulous and I would buy a bottle if other people could actually smell it on me.

I cannot express how much I love this scent I wear it almost daily this is my first experience with a marine-y scent that reminds me of vacation and being a mermaid it is perfect crisp fresh fruity on top with notes of salty ocean and the dry down to this beautiful sandalwood almost palo-santo scent it is just perfect I hope i never get sick of it

ive never been to a beach so i cant speak to realistic accuracy, but it does make me feel like im sitting on the beach eating grapefruit, with strong but not overly sweet citrus notes, and warm undertones. maybe an idealized beach, where the weathers warm with a breeze, the sand doesnt get in all your nooks and crannys, and you wont get sunburned.

I've never been into aquatics at all even though I've owned a few in the past. Falling Into The Sea is what every mainstream fragrance house should aspire to create if going that route, Take notes! Mr. Josh Meyer has left the blue print to citrus aquatic done beautifully. I love this fragrance from top to bottom and would change a thing about it.

The sand is crumbling off your legs as you drink a grapefruity fresh carbonated beverage and gaze at the waves from your towel. In this moment, life is easy. I didn't know sand could be captured in a perfume, but they did it and I love it! Sadly, I have to pass because my family doesn't care for the sunscreen note even though it's not prominent.

I smiled when i first opened this one. Summer vacation in a bottle! It smells exactly like it should & The grapefruit is addictive. Reminds me of drinking a pomelo soda by the pool. Seriously amazing and i will be wearing this all summer.

Nice and clean beachy scent. The floral notes and citrus notes combine well together to make a relatively well rounded unisex fragrance. Nothing super exciting, but nothing offputting either.

The perfect citrus, it's juicy and tart. Smells like the best fruit cocktail you've ever had. I just wish it lasted longer, I only got 1-2hr wear time before it faded :/

Lemon gelato at a cafe next to the sea. The salt notes are fresh and subtle, and blend perfectly with the sweetness of the citrus.

Great Summer fragrance is easily the most mass appealing from their whole line.

Sitting on a Mediterranean beach with crystalline waters lapping at your feet. Seagulls mew in the distance. It's perfect beach weather (it's always perfect beach weather here), hovering around the mid-to-low 80s, not too much moisture in the air, a brilliantly blue sky punctuated by just a few wispy clouds. A barely-there sea breeze kisses your skin every now and then, fills your nostrils with the scent of salt. There's a platter of melons and citrus fruits not too far away, but moving at all seems nearly impossible right now. Stupidly attractive locals stroll the shore wearing almost nothing, making you feel like the tourist you are; if they notice your presence they don't acknowledge it. Even now you already know that this afternoon will hang in your memory for a long time. Falling into the Sea is a beautiful and highly evocative scent. To my nose it shares quite a bit of DNA with Every Storm a Serenade, also by Imaginary Authors, even though I can't find any direct connection in the notes chart. Where that fragrance hones in on a darker, rainier aspect of the sea, this one is all bright sunlight and florals. About those florals, actually; as lovely as they are, I think they muddy the aquatic aspect of this scent a bit. When you get right down to it there's very little actual sea to this fragrance, despite absolutely everything about it suggesting its presence. Even the litchi, one of the more prominent notes, only suggests sea salt; whether you think that's clever or disappointing is entirely up to you. I don't think any of this is a problem, per se, but I do wonder if a bit of blue could have made this one really pop. Like all the Imaginary Authors fragrances I've tried, longevity and sillage aren't issues; this should last you the bulk of the day, and it's the type of scent you want sticking relatively close to your body, which it does. There is a mild synthetic quality to it, and I could see it bordering on cloying for some, but these are small issues; they aren't really even apparent until you have your nose buried in your own wrist. The bigger issue for me is that I just don't know when I'd wear this; it's the middle of summer right now and there's still something too exotic about it for regular use. Wearing it to the office or even casual get-togethers would make me feel like a peacock with his feathers fully extended. So this probably isn't one of the scents from my IA discovery kit that I'll end up buying (I'm leaning much more strongly towards Every Storm) but I'm still glad I experienced it.

Pamplelune meets Sel Marin Big grapefruit start, I can't help but think of Pamplelune. But where that one goes cocktail on me, Falling Into the Sea goes to the beach. I'm trying to understand the 'sand note.' Partly it's my sun-warmed skin minus grapefruit. Recognizing the grapefruit smell, I automatically mentally subtract it from my own familiar smell. I suspect the mind does this to identify multiple simultaneous scents in the environment. For some reason I am left with a decent representation of sand. Soon I sense one of the balmy warm usual suspects, benzoin or similar, hiding in between my skin and the grapefruit. (Why do I perceive these spatial layers, I wonder?). Although more recognizable as a perfume component, this benzoin-type does amplify the warmth (and I have in fact moved into shade at this point). Somehow, these layers continue to develop the 'sand' story in my mind. Then I notice the next trick (not in a negative sense, more like a magic trick), where sea flora have just snuck in under my nose, so to speak. Like the seaweed smell can do at the beach, sometimes growing more pronounced depending on the sun and wind and where you decide to settle in relation to the high tide line. I am delighted because seaweed is a beach cliche, but I didn't smell it coming, so it does its work on me. Like humor and stereotypes, I think cliches begin with a kernel of truth and then get it beaten to death with crude overuse. Rehabilitating a cliche is no small feat! So we get the much-sought-after 'smell of salt.' NaCl is quite odorless, but so very tasty. No wonder we crave its illusion in our perfumes. My one complaint can perhaps be summed up by the 'exotic flower notes.' That is, synthetic notes that smell generically 'perfume' and, worse, 'aquatic.'. I'm guessing they play some other important supporting role here, but they ought to have been smoothed out of conscious perception entirely. I don't know if that is possible, yet I demand it of an otherwise impressive composition.

A hyperreal CGI beachscape so blindingly synthetic it ends up unnerving rather than relaxing you. Lovely zing of citrus and deliberately vague, like-nothing-in-nature floral at first, which baffles and charms by turns, with a definitely salty, marine-y tang which certainly pushes the automatic ozone-detecting button in your brain and makes you think BEACH! on a subliminal level. And there really is a minerally, warm, sand accord there, something even more starkly chemical, which is where the unease creeps in for me. It's a really nice smell - but to my nose it began smelling unavoidably like slightly scorched dryer sheets or ironing spray, rather than sand underfoot; warm and comforting and not at all unpleasant, but definitely artificial and manmade rather than botanical. And it undergirds EVERYTHING and only grows stronger until the total effect nears 'Sel Marin plus lemon, but not as good', or even - if you can imagine it - 'the acceptable end of Secretions Magnifiques but without the putrid stuff'. That massive metallic grid of girders under the structure here just won't let me live with it as a natural landscape, it's undeniably industrial product all the way. It's all kind of futuristic - a sort of Total Recall of a beach scene - but the ultra-hi-def of the approach sort of defeats itself. This smells fine - no doubt - but in a way which doesn't make me feel happy inside. I can admire it, see its tricks and turns and what it's doing - without it sparking similar warmth in me. Which is a bit of a shame for something aiming for a happy, if quirky, summer scent. I mean it's FINE, especially for warm days, but all a bit too virtual-reality for my comfort. Worth a go if you're looking for an individual, non-cliched summer scent or are generally keen on Imaginary Authors - it's definitely worth testing to see if you're happier sprawled out on your towel on this imaginary lido than me.

Definition of a beach fragrance. It represents everything to do with the beach, the notes of sand, citrus (from drinks), the water, the list goes on. To me, Falling into the Sea is the sibling fragrance to Sundrunk by Imaginary Authors. I picture the two fragrances as a couple on holiday. Sundrunk is the one that explores the beach, runs around, excited to be on holiday. It's loud and in your face, with strong flavours that completely define it. Falling into the Sea on the other hand, is a much more mellow version. It would be the one to lie on a recliner, soaking up the sun with a cool drink in one hand and a magazine in the other. The sand radiates heat, but not to an uncomfortable level while the sun itself provides a nice air of comfort. The grapefruit note is a superb addition and I think that it fits perfectly with the lemon and bergamot. Some semi-aquatic fragrances can be too artificial and 'too perfect', whereas Falling into the Sea feels as natural as you can get. I wouldn't wear this as a man, perhaps in the peak of summer while getting ice cream, though aside from that I can't think of any other desirable scenario. I can definitely appreciate this fragrance as a women's fragrance, and I'll see about adding it to my collection later down the line, though at no rush.

A beautiful perfume intended for warm weather that recreates in scent an imaginary story of idyllic summer days which end in tragedy. Like many summery scents, it has a very fresh edge to it. There are aldehydes used to deliver the fresh feeling but they are restrained enough that there is just a hint of soapiness, which I (not a soapy scent fan) can tolerate, and which gives it a clean feeling. There is citrus in here that is the dominant note, but I detect something slightly deeper and spicier that serves to ground the airier citrus and maybe is meant to reference the dark element from the story. This tension between lighter and darker notes gives Falling Into The Sea a weightier feeling than many summery scents. The florals in it add a really pretty almost icing on this cake made of dark and light layers, they feel as though they are floating on top of all the other notes and wow, the effect is lovely. Often times summer scents are simple and direct, but this one is so much more complex and interesting yet still delivers something you would want to wear in warm weather and which is really evocative of those more care free days. Totally unisex.

This really surprised me...it is a super nice/pleasant fragrance. Guys...if you are confidant enough to pull this feminine leaning unisex DNA, you will garner attention from the ladies. They like and can relate with this. Opens with a creamy fruitiness. Although not listed, I get a hint of coconut...I think🤔. Either way, it is really nice opening. As it dries down, this fruitiness begins to mix with a very nice floral note. It does lean feminine, but not enough for me to feel like I shouldn’t wear it. This is what you get for the duration of the fragrance...and I like it! Longevity is above average as is projection. Certainly get your money’s worth. It is unisex...but leans feminine. If you are a guy that can’t handle fragrances leaning slightly in that direction...I don’t think this is for you. Good for spring/summer. Overall, I think this is a great change of pace and really nice DNA. My wife loves it as well...so always a win when both of us can wear same fragrance. I recommend getting a sample first...and I highly recommend you do so.

Despite the name, IA Falling into the Sea is not a true aquatic marine scent, at least to my nose. ( Every Storm a Serenade captures that storm by the beach, sea salt in the air standing under a spruce tree vibe) Falling into the Sea is more of a fruity Citrus, more akin to having a citrus cocktail while lounging on the beach rather than the smell of the sea per se. Like a lot of the IA frags, there isnt any specific top, mid, base structure to the frag. The initial hit of fruity citrus notes of the lemon and grapefruit sweetened by the litchi is what you get for most of the scent life. If you imagine, you might detect the sand note but I for one could not really say if it was there. Projection is heavy for the first hour or so before tapering off sharply to 6 inches around you. Longevity likewise is around the 5 hour range for me. I wouldnt mind wearing this in the summer, reminds me of an Ice cold fruit punch Rum cocktail. Hawaiian Shirt, shorts n flip flops with this frag and you are good to go!

Yes indeed...this is a genuinely genius citrus scent! It's very, very rind-y, as opposed to juicy, and I wonder if a great deal of lemon and grapefruit essential oil is used? I was hit with so much fantastic lemon, that I almost worried that this would be phototoxic in the unseasonably bright February sun today 😅 Not really...I'm kidding, mostly. But damn, the lemon is FRESH and bright. I'm not sure how Mister Meyer accomplished this, but this also is quite lasting for a fragrance that seems approximately 80% citrus. It's not a longevity giant, but it's definitely better than average. The poetic write-up for this is quite dark...but absolutely nothing about this fragrance is. It's bright, and has just a touch of pretty white florals. I don't smell sand admittedly, but this has more than citrus, and it smells like a complete fragrance and not necessarily just a lemon bomb. I really enjoy this and would recommend it to anyone looking for an exceptional citrus fragrance, because truly, it is. 🍋 ☀️
