Yesterday Haze

So I had to rewrite my review on this because my opinion on this has changed drastically since my original review back in August. Originally, I wrote this off as smelling like whipped cream flavored vodka with a subtle tonka note to it. After wearing it multiple times through the fall and almost being out of my vial, I can say confidently it’s much much more than that. Yesterday Haze is the epitome of a classy gourmand. It’s a sweet fig fragrance with a very subtle (and I meant VERY subtle) powdery iris note that is undercut by subtle woodsy, fruity tonka bean notes. The tonka bean is what MAKES this, it helps cut down all the sweetness from the fig and fruity notes, and without out this would be unbearable for me but it truly helps give it that sophisticated feel it has. Yesterday Haze has SO much going for it. It’s long lasting, and I could still smell traces of it a couple days after wearing something that this was sprayed on, and let me tell you that leftover trace of it is pure tonka bean with the subtle trace of fig and it’s beautiful, it takes my breath away every time. It’s complicated in a way gourmands wish they could be, whereas A Whiff of Wafflecone (v1.0) is a straight forward sweet, caramel that is trying to emulate food, this is a very complicated, multilayered fragrance that changes with time, much like the character in the story the fragrance is based off’s life experiences. This is what I imagine your older, very charming, funny older coworker who happens to be more open minded than most women her age smelling like, especially after making her entrance into work with a very colorful scarf that gives with her more subtle toned down ensemble of an outfit on a regular Tuesday.

Summer night parties with your friends and strangers in a dusty field in god-knows-where. You don't know how you got here, or where you are for that matter, but you you know you're along for the ride. Life is good. I have had a 10 mL of this fragrance for about a year and a half now, and now that I've nearly used it all up I want to review this masterpiece. The opening of this fragrance is a slap of juicy, ripe fig with this super creamy whipped cream like quality and a sprinkling of freshly crumbled walnuts. I hesitate to call it gourmand and more gourmand-adjacent, as it never truly feels edible but certainly is very sweet and approachable. Then as it dries down, the whipped cream, slightly sweet yet nutty tonka, smooth iris, and dusty woods combine to create this creamy, dreamy, and somehow dusty wood that rides together with the fig. In other terms, it gains both the dusty wood shavings and creamy quality that sandalwood has without it being sandalwood, and it's addicting. The fragrance becomes this cocktail of creamy/dusty woods, ripe and sweet fig, and this wonderful walnut nuttiness. This has been and will be one of my favorite summer night/fall fragrances ever. If you enjoy creamy fig or woody fig fragrances AT ALL, this is one to check out. Great performance (8-10 hours on me), moderate sillage for the first half, intimate for the second half. This is a fragrance for someone who knows they look good, and feel good, and doesn't need a screaming good fragrance to let others know they feel that way. It is evocative and nostalgic for me, and I will sometimes spray myself with this during the winter to remind me of the summer nights to come. 9/10. A masterpiece.

My first review on here although it seems like I've been here forever. I bought this back in October totally blind because I loved the name, the brand sounded interesting (I'm such a bookworm) and I like fig fragrances. I looked it up on their website and was kind of scared that it's labelled as a gourmand because I genuinely hate overly sweet scents. BUT .. I ended up loving this at first sniff!! This is what cocooning feels like. It's warm, enveloping, feels like a genuine, gentle and comforting hug. It's sweet but in the best way possible for someone who doesn't like sweet scents. Very well balanced so that it's not cloying or headache-inducing and it doesn't make my stomach turn like most gourmand fragrances do. Perfect fall and winter scent but I can see myself wearing it through spring at night. The fig is very subtle and rather syrupy than green or fruity, creamy in a sophisticated elegant way, subtly nutty and woody. I'm so glad it's tonka not vanilla; I think that's what's making the sweetness grounded and tolerable/realistic and not synthetic. And although I can hardly get the iris in its traditional sense, I think it's pulling the sweetness back and balancing everything out somehow in the background. Sillage and longevity are SO there. I can still smell this in my room the next day like beyond 12hrs and it's on my clothes since Friday (it's now Tuesday). If only all gourmands are done this way, I'd then be able to call myself a gourmand girly like the girlies on TikTok. Lol

I got a bunch of samples from this brand and didn't expect this one to be anything special, but it ended up being my favorite! This starts out creamy and nutty - the walnut and tonka really pop on my skin - with a light, airy fruitiness from the fig that keeps it from getting too "warm" and makes me feel like it could be worn in any season. Very subtle sweet woody drydown that, while not particularly inventive, is really lovely. This feels like a gourmand for the woody fragrance girls who say they don't like gourmands. Like the signature scent of the witty misunderstood coming-of-age movie protagonist, or the young hip children's librarian you thought was the coolest person in the world when you were seven. The staying power and evolution on this is really impressive, 8-ish hours after applying I'm still smelling that drydown and I kept catching little whiffs of myself at work. Nothing crazy in terms of sillage - it's intimate, but it sticks around and keeps revealing its layers. The brand seems very into the idea of storytelling with fragrance and this captures that better than anything else I've tried from them. Absolutely a try before you buy - my woody-and-musky-scent-loving roommate tried wearing it and described it as "grandma's apartment," so it definitely won't work for everyone, but this was a total win for me. Picking up a full bottle asap and I'm sure it will stay in my rotation.

Yesterday Haze was one of my first loves when I got into fragrance back during the pandemic. With the note breakdown, I was expecting something straightforward, fruity, and honestly, a little basic, but this thankfully veers quite left of center for me. It's still an easy wear, but it's stranger and certainly more interesting that I thought it'd be. When smelling it for the first time, I thought of an old casino or motel where pleasant-smelling air fresheners are pumped into a space to cover up the scent of mustiness and stale cigarette smoke. I understand that sounds deeply off-putting to most people, but I found it so evocative and interesting. I didn't know perfumes really "went" there when I first starting sampling fragrances. It's probably the first wearable scent that gave me a profound (lovely) feeling of melancholy. Smelling it now, I definitely get the whipped cream; not like a sugary juvenile body spray, overly sticky and sweet, but truly like whipped milk. There's an almost human-like muskiness here that makes this super wearable and sexy to me, with the fig adding a touch of sweetness. The walnut and iris gives YH a dry, softly woody nuttiness that balances the whipped cream & fig. It's so nice. I've since sold off my FB of YH, but I still keep a sample nearby and sniff often.

Opening this scent is... a bit of a rough start. Right away, there’s this synthetic, plasticky sweetness, reminding a glossy, artificial coat. It clings to the fig like cheap candy glaze a little too sticky-sweet, and not helping matters is the bitter, woody walnut shell undertone that feels oddly out of place with its stale dryness. But here’s the plot twist. Give it about ten minutes, and the entire mood shifts. That initial harshness softens into something unexpectedly soft and creamy. It blooms into this lush, mellow blend of fruit nectar swirled with coconut milk. Sweet but smooth, rich without being cloying, and utterly delectable. There’s a mellow whisper of nutty sandalwood and glazed pecan weaving through, adding cohesiveness and depth. It’s not powdery at all, which I appreciate. Instead, it leans into a wonderfully lactonic creaminess, like sipping on a tropical milkshake with your lover under soft autumn daylight. It may have started off a little unbalanced, but it finds its rhythm in the drydown, and honestly, it’s quite lovely once it settles.

Hands down, my absolute favorite IA frag! IA fave / fave purchase in a long while. Blown away, knew literally the minute I tried, NEED a FB like IMMEDIATELY!!! lol - and it just got better the longer I wore! Literally One of the absolute best from the house and if you enjoy the notes described and only get one IA frag, this should be it! THE most realistic whipped cream note I’ve ever smelled in a frag! And the fig... Omg, the fig (LOVE fig: womanity, JM, philosykos etc) Such a great pairing of notes, & well blended. The powdery iris rounds everything beautifully, the sweet Tonka, woody & nutty notes, add such beautiful complex creamy & sweet, gourmand layers to the fig. omg I want to roll in it and become it. I LOVE it! diff from anything I have, gorgeous! Wearable, day/night any time of year. Def feminine but could be unisex Sophisticated sexy. NEED A FB RN!(Update: got it! Still gorgeous! I’d buy multiple back ups of this lol, like already have anxiety abt if they ever quit making it... I’ll be so upset lol). It’s that good.

First time reviewing a perfume, and I felt compelled to since I couldn't find my experience of this perfume anywhere in the reviews below! I received a sample of YH from a friend who didn't like it, and I had zero expectations. But - WOW! Not only did I love it on first spray, I couldn't stop sniffing my wrist for the rest of the day. Creamy, buttery fig, with a light dusting of walnut. Nuanced, but not too rich or sour. I don't get much Iris or Fruit from YH, nor any smoke (luckily, as smoky notes give me headaches). Just a gorgeous, slightly richer than skin scent. I've gotten positive comments from people if I've hugged them or sat close to them, but YH doesn't announce itself more than that. YH is present ALL day, without being overpowering or inappropriate. I caved after a few months of hoarding samples and ordered a full size. I've been wearing it constantly and it is just as appropriate and delicious as a daytime/office scent, as it is in the evening.

Mmm! This is an edible fragrance in the best way. It's not a straight gourmand, as it's got a slight bitter edge and is very woody, but the lactonic, sweet, and fruity notes make this one of the most delicious things I've smelled. It deserves the best compliment you can give a gourmand-esque fragrance from me - not too sweet. It's perfectly hazy and well blended - it's so smooth it's almost hard to pick out notes. It's dreamy and alluring - I crave this fragrance constantly. It's a perfect late summer through fall fragrance, though I could see myself wearing it in winter and spring too. It's my first full bottle from imaginary authors and it is absolutely amazing. Abstractly, the fragrance reminds me of sitting out in an orchard in a late summer evening. When I first smelled it, my first thought was that it smells like the last night of a vacation that you never want to end. Slightly melancholic but deeply beautiful.

Wow. So, I grew up in the heart of San Joaquin Valley, the setting upon which this fragrance is based. In my 40s now, I was probably the last generation of that place to "go to the figs" (meaning go to the fig orchards) as a teenager to do what teenagers do (before the fig orchards gave way to tract homes and almond orchards). This fragrance nailed it. Absolutely nailed it. This is hot dusty summer orchard, the length of the lazy day endless before you, a sweet waft of desire and then a hop into whatever car will carry you to the cover of the craggy boughs of the fig orchard. Perhaps you catch a whiff of walnut orchard along the way. Outside smells - dry dusty dirt, fig flesh - and sweet skin all mingled up, a furtive and carefree encounter captured in this bottle. Wow, just wow. What nostalgia! Without that point of reference, this is still a lovely sweetish fig-based fragrance.

I hate this fragrance because at first scent, I became so obsessed with it that I got into fragrances and spent hundreds of dollars and am now typing out this review. Silage and Longevity are okay at best, but the smell itself is exactly what I would want to smell like, and exactly what I want want someone I meet to smell like. I'm convinced if I smelled anyone at all wearing Yesterday Haze I would instantly develop a crush on them regardless of all other factors. This is warm, nostalgic, bittersweet, like a last glance at someone dear to you as their train is pulling out while you're left behind, and the feeling of expectation about seeing them again. This is like being transported to a farmhouse in fall as a child or teenager and feeling the crunch of the leaves beneath your feet as the sun starts to set, without any real care or responsibility in the world.

Strangely addictive. The first twenty seconds are pure dessert, not my thing at all, but then the dusty quality puts a healthy damper on the sweetness and you’re left with a striking and inviting figgy-woody warmth. Like an old cabinet full of baking supplies, or a costume storage room behind a high school stage. Definitely autumnal and a bit powdery/stale, but in a charming way. You’re on a field trip, you open a closed door, catch a whiff of still, dry air infused with some long-forgotten bowl of potpourri, and your tour guide says “Yeah, we don’t really use this room for anything.” Plays incredibly with skin’s natural heat and goes crazy on clothes, half the fun of this is picking up whatever shirt I wore it with a few days later and immediately burying my nose in it.

I remember finding out about this perfume through a tiktok (of course) the creator associated with the movie "eternal sunshine of the spotless mind," and I HAD to get a sample. it immediately turned into my favorite fragrance that I had to get a full bottle. It's so nutty and creamy, reminiscent of being in a dusty attic filled with forgotten furniture and trinkets, bringing on a sense of nostalgia. It's almost like that old paperback book you can't stop smelling when you open the pages. It's not overly strong but does last a good while on the skin, especially the clothes. At the end I can admit it does tend to smell a bit sour (I'm sure it's the whipped cream note, milky notes don't like me sigh) but I still immensely enjoy it nonetheless. An absolute love.

First impressions: I do not get creaminess or anything dessert like so thats why i am dissapointed. I get mainly dusty and woody notes and iris. It smells old and vintage. Leans more feminine to me. Not bad, but not what i would like to wear often. For special museum train ride occasions maybe. I have gut feeling that my mind on this one can change for better. Edit. And so it did, now i can detect that creaminess, sweetness and fig note too and it makes this really comforting. Comforting in a melancholic and wistful way. Captures the supposed mood very well in my opinion. Unique and one of favorites, tough still considering a full bottle, becouse while being person prone to melancholy not sure if i want to emphasize that kind of emotional state.

Yesterday Haze reminds me of those fancy inedible looking cakes on pinterest. Single tiered, barely more than a crumb coats worth of white buttercream, topped with freshly picked chamomile, fat quartered sticky ripe figs and maybe like...twigs or something for more visual interest. I love the walnut note in this. Slightly buttery and harmonizes well with the soft woods and tonka bean. The opening has something like a burst of vanilla. So confectionary and milky and bright. It holds powdery and light on the skin for a good long while and projects well. This is nice. I could see myself growing sick of it though the longer I wear it. But that's how powdery sweet things can be for me. I'll love it while I can.

This is lovely. I dont know how Imaginary Authors managed to get this scent profile so airy or "hazy". This stuff sings off the skin and a tester strip doesnt do it justice. With Yesterday Haze, the main smell I get is a dense fruit mixed with nuts and shaving cream. Not the fougere harsh shaving cream, like a shaving cream youd find in a 5 star hotel. The woods in here aren't taking over and they provide a nice backbone. Unfortunately, my mom had some sort of fig/plum body mist from B&BW that smelled very cheap and didnt smell like this but my brain automatically made the correlation. So, I'm not sure if I could shake that and get a full bottle, although this is gorgeous perfumery objectively 8/10

It's 10pm on a warm day at the very end of summer. You had a wonderful day with your best friends, but they had to go home. You don't feel like going home yet, you hate the feeling of end. Kids are starting school tomorrow and people are slowly shifting back in to their regular lives after summer break. You're walking at the beach, not too close to the ocean but at the far end. You stare at the sun setting behind the water, everything looks orange. You feel the warmth of the sun on your skin, the hot sand under your feet, and the warm wind on your face. You appreciate the view and the nice peaceful evening, but you can't help but feel a bit wistful. The summer is ending, so is the beautiful night.

This is beautiful, especially on a cooler, even rainy summer or fall days. Initially it’s slightly woody, but then the cream comes in and sweetens, next I get fig added to the cream. It’s spicy fruity creamy goodness. There’s just enough woodiness from the tonka, tree bark, and walnut to keep it from being overly sweet. These base notes linger for around 5 hours on my skin, which is great because my skin usually drinks up all of my scents. I’ve received several compliments wearing this. I will say that this isn’t ideal for super sunny and hot days, as it makes the sweet notes too sweet and cloying. Overall, this is very beautiful and I’m so glad I have it in my collection.

Another blind-buy win! This one is a gorgeous unisex scent that leans a bit feminine. The fig note here is stunning, especially when it melts into that velvety whipped cream and earthy walnut - it’s cozy, slightly dusty, and gives the most creamy and warm vibe without going into full sugar-overload. As a girl who loves Father Figure's sweet fig, this takes fig in a totally different, ultra-snuggly direction. It's practically screaming to be worn with a chunky sweater in the autumn. The performance on my skin and clothes is fantastic, I can easily smell it all day long, the sillage is moderate. So happy I took the gamble on a full bottle of this!

Probably my favorite scent from this house. It is stunning. I am always complemented when I wear it. Last quite a while. Not a green fig scent like philosykos at all, a much deeper and darker experience. I think it is perfect for cooler days, say 65 degrees F and lower, but it might play well in the heat too, I’ll have to try it out. IA has a way with incense and smoke so if you get a chance to grab one of those scents (except City on fire) do it. I also have whispered Myths (love) , O’unknown (love), wife of wafflecone (like ), in love with everything ( not my favorite), memoirs of a trespasser (like a lot).

Off rip, it's very woody, but a comforting wood smell, like a trip to your (hypothetical) grandparent's log cabin. The walnut and tonka bean come together to create such a delicious (not in a gourmand sense) undercurrent that brings everything together, complimented well by the fig notes. Once it dries down, you get more of the sweetness; I begin to pick out the sweet smell of whipped cream which ends up pairing really well with the fig, and stays as the woodiness subsides, leaving me with a very very comforting smell. I might need a bottle of this for when the weather gets colder.

I was trying to figure out what made this such a nostalgic scent, and then a reviewer below mentioned vintages shaving cream & libraries, which absolutely nails it! This is such a unique fragrance, and while I love smelling it, I haven’t yet decided yet if this is how I want to smell to others, if that makes sense? I’ll get one whiff and think it’s very feminine, then the next whiff has me thinking it’s pretty masc, so I’ll put this right in the middle as a true unisex. Definitely intrigued to try more from Imaginary Authors!

This perfume smells exactly like somebody I used to know, and when we were close I spent a copious amount of time trying to figure out what that smell was. I’m still not sure, but this is almost perfect. And there’s no way they bought this. It’s kind of jarring in a way, but I really have only good things to say about this fragrance. Comes off extremely cozy and lactonic and just the right amount of sweet. I pick up a whole ton of walnut. It’s almost reminiscent of eating a pie on your freshly washed bed. I can’t get enough.

I received a sample of this scent when purchasing the Language of Glaciers and I fell in love. I usually do not like sweeter gourmand type scents, but the woodiness and nuttiness of this one balances that out nicely imo. I was surprised many feel it leans masculine, I feel it is more feminine. To me, this scent makes me feel cozy. I put it on for the first time and went for the best nap of my life lol. I intend to get a full bottle! This scent feels close, cozy, and intimate. To me it feels like a skin scent.

This scent has to be one of my favorites of all time, hands down. It's so indulgent and creamy, with a delicious fruity-musky edge. I get nonstop compliments every time I wear it. The iris, cream and fig blend into something so perfect and dreamy. It has an almost antique vibe to it- something in it reminds me of visiting museums as a child. I'd like to say that comes from the woody/nutty elements to the scent. Super wearable, fairly unisex. It's a love love love.

fresh, slightly charred and dusty wood just thrown in the fire on a dry night. the walnut note comes in later, nutty and crispy... maybe the char i'm smelling is the walnut. the fig is quiet, more leafy and slightly creamy. the dustiness is really luring me in, like a dark room or abandoned home telling you not to go in, but you're sooooo intrigued i want to spray this on a blanket and bury my face in it. a bedtime scent for me until fall comes around!

I got sent a free sample of this and now I'm considering buying a full bottle. The opening is a little weird on me: smells almost exactly like an antique store or one of those old houses that was turned into a museum; very warm and a little musty. But the drydown is absolutely gorgeous, creamy, fleshy figs and it stays with you all day. My students were asking me why I kept sniffing my arm but I just couldn't help myself it smelled so good.

This fragrance made me fall in love with the art of perfume. I cannot tell you how much I love this scent! I love the creamy fig and nutty sandalwood. It feels like the perfect creamy fall fig scent. I continue to try fig scent in search of a fragrance that honors fig in the way Yesterday Haze does. It's everything I had hoped Gris Charnel would be. It's not too sweet, but just enough. It lasts on me pretty much all day.

I was not sure what to expect with Yesterday's Haze, but it hit me like a masculine scent. It smells like aftershave, but not in a bad way. It is kind of powdery to my nose. It makes me think of an older man with a moustache and calloused hands who has a workshop in the back yard under the walnut tree. The workshop has wood shavings on the floor and a shelf with books on it. It is cozy and reminds me of my dad.

Very cozy, fig scent. For me, it's the most "book" reminiscent of any of Imaginary Authors' scents. If you want to smell like a floral brocade couch, this is it. That said it can definitely lean musty or mature. The opening, though brief, is more fresh and summery but the dry down is very dryly sweet. Smelling it on a sweater a few days after wearing it is the absolute best-- it smells like a hug from my dad.

A little while ago I made fig leaf ice-cream and this smells like that. Much more a lactonic fig leaf scent than a fig scent to me. I get less fruity and more rich, creamy, nutty. Definitely some aspect of woody walnut, a little bitter but not off-putting. When the rich cream falls out a little, the iris is more obvious but the fig leaf remains. Lovely and an easy wear.

Beautiful. My fav from my sample set of 8. Fruity jammy woody fig like I made a jam from a fig and used the wood to make a bowl for it. There’s a laconic nuance I’m obsessed with and it doesn’t pull powdery on my skin thank gif because other I.A. perfumes tend to do that (looking straight at the language of glaciers and an abandoned mansion)

My boyfriend and I recently sampled all the IA scents so here is a dual review. My review: I really love this. It's such a sweet yet woody scent it may be more feminine if you don't like sweet scents but I would love to smell this on my boyfriend because it is gourmand yet manly to my nose. His review: I do like that... Very edible smelling

this fragrance is so nostalgic to me i can’t pin how but it’s so comforting to me. i don’t like gourmand or vanilla but this is such a well balanced blend of tonka and cream it has an element of sweetness but the fig and iris is the key smell it is such a powdery sweet scent that brings me so much joy when i wear it it makes me feel calm

A dirty, earthy, fragrance with a slight sweetness in the most beautiful way. This is not my usual fragrance, but from the very 1st time I tested I could not stop thinking about it. It sits close to the skin and the dry down softens it further. Very beautiful in a different way. May not appeal to everyone but there’s something about it.

Yesterday Haze is aptly named because this fragrance is certainly hazy and dusty. I absolutely love how the woody iris base blends with the ripe, sweet fruit and creamy top notes. This fragrance almost has a dreamlike feel. There’s a soft and ethereal quality that draws me in. My all-time favorite from Imaginary Authors. 10/10

Yesterday Haze is soft, but not powdery to me. There's a creamy coconut-like quality, which I'm guessing comes from fig leaf notes. It's woody in a way that I read as old paperback books, which pairs well with the hint of iris. This is a cozy mystery novel set in a charming little book shop, but without the murder. I love it.

I really enjoy this scent but I'm also a huge fan of fig scents. I have this as a sample with other popular fig scents. It doesn't project a whole lot but I do feel like it hangs around for a while. It also retains the creamy fig and something else (not sure what but kind of nutty and warm) note even on my skin.

This is a beautiful perfume! Sweet, creamy, and the woody notes smell more like a super soft bark smell, not smokey or woody how I am used to smelling when I see it in notes. Super close to the skin on me, but I'm okay with that. Makes it an easy every day wear and makes me want to smell my arm all day

I recently bought the complete sample set from Imaginary Authors and this was one of only two that I would repurchase (the other being O, Unknown). It’s not too overpowering but it lasts through the day. A very nice everyday fragrance, more citrus-forward than advertised. Love it!

Walnut bitters, unsweetened cream, fig bark. I love those notes, then the tonka comes out and adds a suggestion of cold coffee beans. (laid fresh cedar bark in the orchard today, love a thematic moment, had to wear it, now obsessed with it)

I am such a sucker for IA, I think Yesterday Haze is my favorite of their collection. I adore the figgy, whipped vanilla smell with undertones of B.O. My boyfriend is not a fan of this on me but I dont care - I adore its nastiness.

This perfume is one of my absolute favourites. Perfectly nostalgic and came into my life at a very particular point. It’s one of those things you love so much you can't get into the why <3 I hope this never gets discontinued.

I am so so in love with this scent. I wore it for a summer back home and it immediately takes me back there now. Fig and cream aren't super strong but come through in a beautiful evocative way. So gorgeous and underrated

clean/woody/fruity scent. feel like ts could be pulled off in any weather. its like a more fruity and expensive smelling version of Prada l'homme feels really nostalgic for me, kinda smells like my grandpa lols

the subtle, yet photorealistic fig leaf scent that i've been searching for! reminiscent of a july in northern spain. late sunsets, stone cities, figs just beginning to ripen on their trees. love love love :)

Now this I can get with. To me, this is like if Dirty by Lush and Lalique Le Parfum shared a kiss in the back of an executive suite. A clean and attractive soft green scent that works for any occasion.

If this is what the San Joaquin Valley smells like I might just move to Fresno right now. I'm not sure if that's fig or not but the wood is really brought out on my skin and I like that a lot.

Very dusty from the Iris and woody notes. Reminds me a lot of Gris Charnel. It’s really comforting to me and I love wearing it to bed. Like smelling an old wooden chest that holds blankets.
