Death in the Afternoon

This one's an oil rollerball (jojoba base, I believe). The fennel note can be quite divisive depending whether you enjoy the smell of licorice. This perfume's been my daily for several years for how close to the skin it sits and because the combination of notes does something weird for my brain. I struggle to pick out any individual notes, but this perfume smells exactly like rain outside my childhood window. If I had to guess, I'd assume it's the bay leaf, champagne accord, and fennel notes. A fairly cold scent, doesn't really develop over the duration of wear, so what you smell in the top notes I find is what remains for most of the wear. On my skin, by hour six there's more of the tobacco and vetiver warmth, but it's a very subtle shift. Opinions from people around me - "a very pretty smell" (65yo mother) - "quite a masculine smell" (an older person who had no filter, lmao) - "has that powdery musk smell I'm not a fan of that's common in men's aquatic perfumes, but I like the rest of it" (30yo friend)

I love Immortal Perfumes with all my heart but this one simply isn't for me! Maybe it just reacted strangely to my skin (or maybe my dislike for Hemingway's prose has infected my olfactory system) but yeah. I am just not the one for this. Not sure if it was the bay leaf, the tobacco, or the fennel that did it, but I felt like I had just snorted the whole sample vial.
