Oceans of Time

Incredible, incredible, incredible. This has been a staple in my wardrobe for more than a year now and I still can't get enough of it. It indulges my love affair with amber, but the main event is absolutely the aromatic notes that lurk just underneath. Absolutely fantastic perfume with an enticing depth.

If you enjoy the smell of tomato leaf, good news: the opening is very strong with it. Unfortunately, my skin seems to eat the tomato leaf notes within half an hour and leave almost nothing of the remaining perfume behind, so I usually have to roll it on darker clothing instead of directly onto my skin. The perfume's concept is fantastic. I love that they didn't take the heavy, overly-opulant approach to their Dracula perfume or go full Nosferatu monster. This one makes me think of Chapter VII in the book (the S.S. Demeter logs), with the cold mist, the green, bruised roses (thank you, tomato leaf), and faint notes of coffin and conflict (vetiver, woods, gunpowder and smoke).

I bought this because I’m easily baited by a Dracula reference. I wasn’t really sure whether or not I would like it due to the peculiar combination of tomato leaf and gun powder. However, I find Oceans of Time to be very sophisticated and refined. It’s totally masculine, so I probably wouldn’t wear it myself. I would definitely love this on a man though. The gunpowder note isn’t too challenging. It’s alluringly smoky and quietly dangerous. I can envision Prince Vlad leaving a scent trail of this as he whirls Mina around a candle lit ballroom.

Deep, leathery, ambery scent with a slight freshness, but overwhelmingly amber. Not suited for warm weather. Definitely feels deep, dark, and oceanic, but I can't really pick up well on other notes, disappointed most by the lack of tomato leaf and marine notes. Associations: abyssal monster, dark rotting mansion Wear to: dinner party with a strange but wealthy gentleman, getting lost in a haunted mountain forest
