Evening Edged In Gold

The Bottle: While I do not have the bottle (yet), Evening Edged In Gold's bottle is covered in gorgeous golden designs that remind me of beautiful Art Deco adorned buildings. Swirling clouds and a golden moon cover the cylindrical flask. It's very lovely to look at on display. If you go my route and get Ineke's Deluxe Sample pack first, it will come in a lovely box with seven other fragrances from Ineke's ever growing Alphabet Line. Evening Edged In Gold's sample will come in a small black case with images of golden Midnight Candy flowers on a black background on the left side and Angel Trumpets with a small moth on a golden hued background on the right; a capital E and the name of the scent in stark white font on the front. Sliding out of the inner container which holds the sample will reveal a lovely black and gold checker pattern reminiscent of the works of Gustav Klimt, the 0.05ml sample inside wrapped in stark black tissue paper. The Scent: When first sprayed, the crisp sweetness of the plum makes its entrance, arriving hand in hand with the luscious apricot notes of the golden osmanthus. For a brief interlude, the two top notes mingle to create a sweet but striking combination of juicy fruits before the plum lets the osmanthus take center stage. Meanwhile the heart notes of saffron, cinnamon, and brugmansia (Angel's Trumpet) make their presence known and join with the osmanthus. The sweet and spicy richness of the saffron plays well with the powdery qualities of the brugmansia and the sweet floral components of the osmanthus, all while the cinnamon ever so gently incorporates its earthiness to the mix. As the drydown approaches, the earthiness of the wood notes and the sweet tang of leather overtake the osmanthus while the night phlox (Midnight Candy) adds a creamy yet powdery note of vanilla sugar to the lingering spices. The end result is a warm, creamy, and effervescent fragrance. Overall Impression: If Ineke's Evening Edged In Gold were a person, I would describe it as young yet refined socialite wearing a black form-fitting evening gown with a black and gold lace shawl. Her dark hair is pulled back into a loose chignon while a necklace of champagne pearls sit on her shapely collar and golden bracelets encircle her slender wrists. Her presence commands the room due to the scintillating aura she gives off, but when approached she is charming, warm, and receptive, showing maturity beyond her years. Her voice is soft, sweet, but deep and rich. She has the glamour of Holly Golightly with all the wit, grace, and patience of 1001 Arabian Night's famed Scheherazade. Other reviewers have commented that Evening Edged In Gold reminds them of champagne and I couldn't agree more! I wore this fragrance on New Year's Eve and it set the mood perfectly as it smelled like I had bathed in champagne! It is a bit heavy on the spice factor than I usually prefer in floral-orientals, but the fact that saffron comes out so beautifully in this perfume is one of the reasons I enjoyed it so much. I also loved the powdery drydown of Evening Edged as it lent a very grown-up quality to this perfume without making me feel like an old lady. Out of the eight samples in Ineke's Deluxe Sample, Evening Edged In Gold is currently tied with Hothouse Flower as my favorite. It's only downside is that it can be very light. One spritz will not cut it and if you want this perfumes full potential you need at least two good sprays. Otherwise, this is a gorgeous scent with a nice sillage and good longevity.

The beautiful and whimsical bottle with drawing of a crescent moon and silhouette of a golden moth sets the mood for a fragrance that reflects the beauty of summer evening so well. EVENING EDGED IN GOLD is absolutely delightful and easy to wear. It has the perfect balance of uniqueness, imagination, sophistication, and softness. There is warmth and coziness from the saffron, natural sweetness of summer night blooming flowers from the angel trumpets and classy, chic note from the leather. I can see this fragrance being a signature scent material. The notes listed on fragrantica are missing two components crucial to the composition: the angel’s trumpet (a variation of datura flower) in the heart and midnight candy (night blooming phlox) in the base. I think they are very important to understanding the genius of this composition. INEKE used those two sweet blooming night beauties as an alternative to commonly used jasmine or rose. And I do love how these two notes add a different twist to this fragrance. It is unusual, unique and very pleasant. EVENING EDGED IN GOLD starts with a beautiful woody fresh note (I think it is ever elusive Osmanthus) and very lovely dark plum. The saffron warms up the composition right from the start and brings the exotic, very sophisticated tone to the mix. The saffron note is layered on slightly dry plum and sweet angel’s trumpet (variation of datura) in the heart notes. I do love the scent of datura – sweet and sometimes overpowering. The sweet floral note in the heart does remind me of real datura scent. In the base, the midnight candy (from what I understand it is a night flox flower) smells almost rosy sweet on my skin but as time passes the scent becomes more subtle with very beautiful leather note dry down. The feeling I get from this composition is warm and cozy yet very refined, classy and sophisticated. I am sure it will be fabulous as a winter perfume but for me this scent captures the romantic mood of a summer night garden with warm air, pale moon and night blooming white flowers in my garden. (My overall rating is 10/10) Why 10 out of 10? The composition is unique, beautiful and masterfully done. It is easy and pleasant to wear. It creates an aura of sophistication but yet it could be worn on many occasions as it is not overpowering on my skin. The longevity and sillage are great. I fell in love with this scent and got a full bottle shortly after I tested it.

Strong, thick, and rich, at first there’s a rose-like floral note, sandalwood, plum, saffron, the smell of freshly ironed cloth with the iron a little too hot, a tiny pinch of spice, and an aura that reminds me of ambergris. As it dries down, I can see how all this melds into something that’s supposed to be angel’s trumpet, but it’s not as sickly-sweet as the real thing. The plum stays very prominent, supported by the warm woods in the background. I don’t smell leather at all. After an hour, it becomes a gorgeous fruity-floral, not the usual commercial slop, but a clever, sexy, confident, grown-up fruity-floral with an eccentric style that makes it a fascinating wear. There’s plenty of sillage, but it stops just short of being too much. The fragrance fits the name perfectly. It’s a perfume that evokes memories or fantasies of a million magical evenings full of nostalgia and romance, from the opera to the beach to the bed, and I can’t get enough of it. It’s been a long time since I swooned over a perfume, but this one does it to me. It lasts over 12 hours on skin. Bottom line: one of the best perfumes I’ve tried in a long time. I love it!

Discovered at a small boutique in Seattle with instructions from my sister to treat myself to something. I'd never heard of Ineke or her line, but the box art and bottle intrigued me, and after practically huffing the test strip nonstop I couldn't leave without the bottle. First impression was familiarity of the blend, not the individual notes. I couldn't put my finger on it right away, but after several days of wear I realized it reminded me of Il Bacio by Borghese, which was my first signature scent in the early 90s. EEIG is like that wild, moody, vibrant, mysterious, tawdry teenager all grown up and much more settled in her skin. Sophisticated and stylish. The fruity, sweet tones are neither cloying nor pull gourmand. I can't tell if it's actually long-lasting because I am re-applying 2 or 3 times a day to get that initial opening experience. It's like taking a fall walk with a cup of not-too-sweet cider and seeing the evening light fall on the last remaining fruit on the trees. I look forward to spraying this on a scarf!

So I've been on an unsniffed fragrance treasure hunt from unfamiliar lines and have acquired quite a few gems. I ordered the INEKE sample set and decided that I really like 3 of the six. After My Own Heart, Chemical Bonding, and the lovely Evening Edged in Gold. I decided to spring for a full-size bottle of EEIG. It is similar but also unlike what I usually wear. I find plum and osmanthus a hit or miss combo but IMO this a familiar yet unique blend of notes that contrast and compliment in a way that just makes me smile. Warm and spicy but floral and woody and finally there is this sweet leather, that I hangs on to my skin like an elegant dewy summer night, with your special someone, neither saying much but the romantic silence says everything. The name is so apt for this is to me definitely an evening edged in gold.

I have the sample set of ineke' a-h fragrances and this is got to be my favorite out of all of them. (Field notes in Paris being a close second). When I was buying the sample set, the girl who was selling it to me allowed me to spray it from the larger bottle since it was also her favorite. I'm glad she showed it to me because wow! That leather is lovely! Started with a quick jab of plum that made me hesitate for a moment but it didn't take long before my nose was glued to my wrist. The spice isn't biting... Well maybe more of a love bite ;) This is right up my alley, and I would love love love to get my hands on a full bottle one day.

Damn this is good!! It is composed of every note that I love. Initially it starts with juicy plum and osmanthus which is light and addictive. It made me want to continually inhale it's beautiful aroma and as it settles down I get a sweet and leathery accord, the type of smell that wafts up from a leather handbag filled with old lipsticks.... heaven!! The base notes are warm, sweet and spicy and I would say that this is a winter perfume, soft and comforting, like a steaming mug of sweet chai on a cold and windy evening. A charming and elegant perfume from this very impressive niche house. Good longevity and respectable silage.

Oh wow this is a gorgeous fragrance. I am having difficulty trying to describe what I am smelling but it is very pleasant on the nose. The first initial burst is sweet. As it begins to settle on the skin it develops into a warmer gorgeous slight spice with a hint of leather. The scent is sexy as hell. All feminine without a flower or gourmand overload. Very different scent not mainstream. I absolutely and completely am in love with this. So refreshing to smell something unique for a change. I would like to thank my lovely swap partner for the opportunity to give this gem a try.

Long awaited, I finally got my hands on this scent. I recently re-discovered sweet-fruity scents, and this was meant to be the perfect plum. Personally, I adored this perfume. It starts with the heady sweetness of plum, then takes a more elegant twist into a dark, classy yet seductive creation, thanks to the flowery notes. When paraded around the office, the opinions on this one were split - - Middle aged women and men fell head over heels. - Girls my age and a bit older said it smelt too heavy and sweet, "aunty-style". Well, I choose to love it nontheless :)

This perfume demonstrates how different perfumes react with people's personal chemistry. I adore this scent but unlike darlingbuds for me the striking notes are saffron, cinnamon and plum. The drydown is gorgeous: floral and leather with echoes of plum. I second the comment on the sample set: fabulous gift for any perfume lover and a great deal. Anyone can buy expensive perfume from big-name designers. Buying from a brave little house like this is far more rewarding and no one will know what you're wearing.

...and after three hours out comes the wood. 12 hours after application, I can still smell it faintly, and more than faintly on the clothes I wore last night. I received a compliment on it last night. Can it really be....am I smelling something similar to DK Chaos after several hours and the fruitiness wears down?? Brilliant. So happy.

Oh so beautiful!!!!! Beautiful!!!! I'm in love!!!! This is such a lovely fragrance! What can I say? It's heavenly. Others here have given such good reviews....I agree with every one who loves it, and can't say anything better!!!! It is PERFECT and divine!!!!! Anf I LOVE the packaging!!!! Sublime!!!!!!

3 hours of sweet PLUM and nothing but plum on me. Skin scent still going after that. I love it. Fun and glam, with a soft, sexy, sophisticated and intelligent side. But I can't help but wonder if this smells like something from BBW.

Beautiful! On me it's smells like Champagne, golden & sparkly. Fruity, floral, just a hint of spice. It really does smell like champagne! I do want this very much.

Evening Edged in Gold is a fine composition, as far as the scent goes, which I found frustrating due to lack of tenacity. I literally had to re-apply it just to write a review despite having applied it less than 10 minutes previously; it had nearly vanished, leaving only a ghost of its very pretty scent. It has a floral which I can't pin down---very nice, reminiscent of datura or heliotrope or even lily in certain ways. This is underpinned by cinnamon and saffron and a delicate plum. Leather? Not on me. When freshly applied, it has a contradictory feeling of both opulence and delicacy. It's one of a handful of perfumes I've tested that bring the word 'poignant' to mind. If the Japanese phrase "mono no aware" (oddly translated as "the ah-ness of things", referring to a wistful appreciation of something beautiful and transient, something that strikes at the heart) had a scent, this would be it. The drydown is incredibly beautiful but so subtle; I think I'd have to bathe in this perfume in order to enjoy it fully. Still, I like it so much that I plan to order a full bottle in hopes that a much more generous spraying on will allow me to revel in this scent which truly enchanted me but which slips away...The bottle appears just as lovely as the perfume it holds. Perhaps Ineke's pleasant sample policy, in which they send a coffret of samples and permit one to apply the cost of that to a future full bottle purchase is the answer.

All I get from this is fruity floral (albeit a grown-up take on the genre), and a very low-sillage one at that. I get the plum, the osmanthus (?) and the Angel's trumpet, but even with multiple sprays I can barely smell it unless I put my nose against my wrist. I don't get any of the spice or wood notes, just a hint of warmth. I'm missing all the great cinnamon, saffron, leather, champagne accords, etc., that everyone else gets from this one. I wanna smell them too! :-( If only this had better sillage... For now I'll experiment at home with more sprays to find a happy medium. UPDATE: It takes a few more sprays than normal to coax this one out of its shell, but it does emerge. Having never smelled osmanthus before, I can only guess that it's the "apricot gelatin" smell - the kind of fruit scent that makes you feel something gummy in the back of your throat, but it's not sugary-sweet or sticky. I still don't get much spice from this, but I do detect a hint of saffron, and a bit of a champagne note without the bubbles. Very fruity, and just a hint of spice to make it a bit sexier. Imagine an adult version of peach jello with champagne in it - that's what this smells like. Come to think of it, I'm glad I don't smell the cinnamon in this. I can't imagine cinnamon meshing too well with bellini jello.

Juicy, tart plum and apricot are what greet me upon spraying Ineke Evening Edged in Gold. Soon, a plush suede emerges. If the suede in Daim Blond is brand new, in Evening Edged in Gold, it's been worn for quite some time. It becomes more tender and meshes better with the skin. I sometimes have trouble with saffron being too sharp, but here it's very light and almost fuzzy, as if it's the actual texture when touching suede. After about 2 hours, this lovely suede recedes into the background. The fragrance then becomes a creamy skin scent of white floral and vanilla, with a pinch of woods and spices around the edge. But overall, it's very amorphous, as if the scents of my body lotion and my suede jacket got mixed up with the heat of my wrist. The sillage is very soft and the longevity is around 7 hours. I enjoy Evening Edged in Gold much more than the first 4 offerings from Ineke, since it doesn't have the particular soapy element that I struggled so much with, and I really like the soft suede at the beginning. Although I personally find the drydown less interesting, it's still a very pleasant skin scent. Moreover, its sheer nature makes it quite versatile and I suspect it would bloom beautifully in a summer evening. I'd definitely recommend it as a relatively friendly suede fragrance.

A warm, softly spiced Oriental. Saffron and cinnamon are lovely, but not in a painfully harsh and obvious way like in other spicy perfumes. I look at the notes, and they just don't add up to me. The whole concoction oddly smells like a combination of mint chewing gum and pink bubblegum, but I like it! I smell the faintest touch of leather once it dries down a bit. Unfortunately the scent stayed right on the skin, with no projection to speak of. I literally sprayed it all over myself, at least 10 sprays (no joke), and my friend couldn't smell it on me at any point. If this had some projection, I might consider purchasing it. This is my favorite out of Ineke's lineup.

Thick and rich, well-blended, comforting and familiar scent. I can't distinguish the individual fruits, but it has a jammy, syrupy quality to it on the skin. Semi-sweet but not cloying. The cinnamon note is soft and understated, definitely more of a true Ceylon cinnamon and not a Vietnamese/Saigon (think Cinnabon) cinnamon. The spice hangs out in the background with the woods and leather base notes. This Angel's Trumpet floral note is brand new to me; I've never smelled it before and it's enchanting. It stands out to me as uncommon and mysterious. Together with the osmanthus, the florals are powdery smooth and exotic, almost juicy.

First I get leather then osmanthus and then a touch of plum. Its not very sweet. I grow datura and it has the most sweet, heavy, hypnotic and potent fragrance ever but it is timid here if at all. There is lots of leather and a touch of saffron and spices on the drydown. I am getting way too much leather. It stays close to the skin on me and the longevity is moderate. Its nice but thats all for me.
