Idyllwild

This is a lovely, light, fizzy summer fragrance. I don't think this would wear well in winter as it sits close to the skin. It reminds me of some of Guerlain's Allegorias but it doesn't have a floral note--so think a citrus top in those without the base. Cypress, fir and Sequoia are definitely the strongest notes to my nose, but the rhubarb presents a tart-sweetness (hence that citrus quality). It also unfortunately reminds me of D&G Light Blue. So, if you love that scent--either keep going or try this one out for a change. While I love the idea, and the scent itself is reminiscent of walking on the California coast (and I think more northern than southern California), I do not like the lack of silage or the longevity. Both are low and poor, which I find almost inexcusable in anything other than a cologne, and this is very "cologne-like." However there is something "different" about it--so it's not a "mere dupe" for D&C Light Blue, but it's in that genre. Longevity and silage can be made up for with HEAVY application. And then it's really nice, really a sort of "different cedar-citrus" type of offering with the subtle nuances of the above notes. Having grown rhubarb, I can't say it smells like this when crushed fresh, so I'm going with a mix of olfactory/taste impressions mixed with a bit of green. For those afraid of ISO E--I don't think this has it. It presents very naturally, which is perhaps why it has poor performance. I'm not rushing out to get more, but next summer, I think this will be a "go-to." As an aside, we perfumistas often notice beautiful bottles. I have to say of all the perfume releases this year--the name makes my heart flutter: Idyllwild. I think I'm going to name my next cat that.

Holy smokes! Motherf***! For years I have been trying to conjure the smell of the air in the high peaks region of the Adirondack mountains, a blend of firs with predominant hemlock and a kind of inexplicable sweetness that borders on citrus, and I've come close on my own blending fragrance oils, but the opening salvo of Idyllwild has got it dead to rights. Unbelievable- you have no idea how happy I am right now :D Following that, the picture is rounded out with the smell of the understory, an old growth forest with its rotting mounds of deadwood turning back into soil, the kind of forest stink that makes you want to smell it compulsively, dotted with the occasional greenery of ferns. There's also something in here that triggers a sense memory I can't quite recall- it's resinous pine tar, but I have a feeling it's more specific than that. Anyhow, the more dank and resiny aspects fade into the background after a couple hours and leave behind the greenery of the ferns, and surprisingly a return of something citrusy, though I'm fairly certain it's the sharp edge of the cardamom. Gorgeous fragrance, and like someone said, more of an experience. I would still wear it out though. Feels like it rides very close, but my daughters confirmed it was in fact 'very strong' from 3 feet. They tend to be very sensitive though. Seemed to last 4-5 hours on me.

I was in the market for a Christmas Tree scent, and this did not disappoint. Like walking in the deep woods in Montana after a soft rain. Lots of pine and fir. I'm such a sucker for cardamom, and this shines through beautifully on the dry-down. At the start, I get a blast of grapefruit rind mixed with forest trees. The citrus fades pretty quickly into that strong, clean Pine-Sol (but in a good way for me ;-) scent, and then dries down to a woody, spicy musk. A beautifully blended fragrance that has a nice, but not overpowering sillage, and good staying power at 6+ hours. It was one of three samples I took home after smelling dozens at Ministry of Scent in SF, and may be a big bottle purchase depending on the next few wears.

Niche designer Ineke has outdone herself with this coniferous, woody-green masterpiece. Quite simply, it's superb. Evocative of a shaded, romantic walk in a west coast forest during the warmer months amidst one's wood cabin getaway. Begins with a potent, almost sour burst of pure greenery that leads to a soft, elegant, irresistible woody drydown that lingers beautifully (if closely) on the skin. Delicately crafted and blended with loving care, and less of a "scent" and more of an "experience." While Ineke's Field Notes from Paris has long since been the jewel in her crown, Idyllwild is certainly a close second. ★★★★ out of ★★★★

This is a new perfume making a launch by the end of September 2017...I was sent a sample in the mail as I have ordered from Ineke before...and I love this, have already pre-purchased a full bottle...most pine/forest perfumes tend to be loud and dare I say a little harsh, but this isn't...the pine comes on strong for the first second then tranforms down to a lovely tea/light herb calm...very different from just about anything I've smelled before...worth trying - as others have mentioned the new sample set from Ineke includes this...I also love Field Notes From Paris from Ineke and that is included too...

In the opening I get tea and lavender. It’s a nice combo, I don’t think either stand out more then the other. Then comes with woods, and boy do they come on strong. It turns very pine, conifer, and woody and that’s where it stays for me. I get the slightest hit of musk, very very slight. It’s all pine for me. I think this is one that would grow on me, although it’s not for everyone’s every occasion. I would buy a bottle. It’s good enough for that. As always with Ineke it’s well made.

Update a year in: This has become one of my favorites. So unique and high quality. Amazing fresh piney and citrusy scent! I have a lot of piney and/ or citrusy scents and it is one of the best. So smooth and potent! Not in a brash and harsh way like pine scents are sometimes. Extremely smooth and vibrant. It projects a lot and stays fresh for at least 5 to 6 hours.

The scent is perfection. The performance is not. It becomes a skin scent almost instantly. If Ineke can find a way to make this fragrance project and increase its sillage, I would buy 40 backup bottles. I did buy a fb even after trying a sample though.

I’ve never had a perfume that changes so much on my skin. From the bottle it’s quite sharp with notes of mint, citrus, lavender and evergreen. But on drydown, on me, it’s sweet and mellow, quite feminine and fresh. It’s a perfect daytime summer scent!

Reminds me a lot of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction's Rhubarb tea liquor. Does not smell cheap. Invigorating, transparent, and natural. Very short lived, but so good that it's probably worth carrying around a travel spray.

This is beautiful and sexy on my husband. I’ve always loved him in vintage style green spice scents, Polo Green is one of my very favorites. This is a modern take on Polo Green without smelling young & desperate. silver fox vibe 🔥

A strong, realistic rhubarb leads off, then soon tempered with fir and cyprus, then sage--but thankfully only a touch. A powerhouse of a scent, masculine leaning, clean and intensely green. I am enthralled.

Photorealistic pine. Damp pine forest and resinous. Love and is so calming and comforting. Wish it was stronger :( agree with another review about how these are a bit weaker.

I agree with others that this perfume does not last and is very close to the skin. Gone within 2 hours. Too bad because it's a nice smell.

64th Opens with a green grass smell(-) which soon turns into a green pine needle, herbal, resinous blend with that whisper of rhubarb and grapefruit tartness and a touch a burnt wood. But it’s all too gentle, like a breeze as you walk through the forest. I wish it was stronger, because it reminds me of a European forest aroma. The Ineke scents I've tried were all very weak smelling, as much as I enjoyed them and do not enjoy very strong scents. Ineke should call her scents EDT/cologne and actually create a true EDP for her line. That would be awesome...hint! I do like what I have smelled so far, an different gentle take; regardless, her scents are interesting to me. 7/10

I got this hoping it was very similar to Maison Margiela Soul of the Forest, which actually came out a year after this. It is pretty similar. Unfortunately, the part of Soul of the Forest that has a feminine quality about it is what this fragrance is all about. But also, this doesn’t have ANY sweetness. So it’s not really a feminine fragrance, though perhaps it leans feminine. It’s like a stripped down version of Soul of the Forest. Not bad, but not great. It’s spicy. If you’re a guy, check out Terrible Teddy.

I agree with gtabasso that this is herbal grapefruit tea, but more grapefruit rind to me than flesh. It's lovely, but not quite what I expected, as it does not place me in a forest or any outdoor excursion. I don't get much evergreen. This won't be a purchase, but I would totally wear it if it magicked into my collection. I'll add that there's a charming spicy undertone that must be from the cardamom (though I can't specifically pick out cardamom here)

Idyllwild reminds me so much of the Adirondacks. As soon as my husband and I both smelled we looked at each other and said Adirondacks! It smells of the trees deep in the woods and the log cabin we stay in years ago. Cozy, very natural. Easy dumb reach for any nature lover that will take you from fall, through winter and early spring. The fresh outdoor eastern mountains and hills in a bottle. Unisex but leans a tad male. I will love this on my man.

I love the rhubarb in this. It is one of my favorite fragrance notes and this is special because even with grapefruit in addition the overall effect on my skin is a sweeter more inviting fruit scent. I would call it outdoorsy but it isn’t bracing or tart. I have a sample set with six ineke products and this is the favorite.

This one unexpectedly became my favorite in the Ineke discovery collection. I can't stop smelling it on me. At first smell, I disregarded it as too grassy, sour, and pine-sol-y, but it quickly turned to a lovely, unisex, fresh pine and cypress with a delicate tart rhubarb on top. Could maybe be a year-round scent for me!

Grapefruit lead. Off the top, this is an aromatic citrus with some sweetness to it. The tea then comes in strongly. Herbal grapefruit tea. The rhubarb may lend a little sweetness but I wouldn't call this a rhubarb scent. The grapefruit and tea dominate. I can't understand where people are not noting the citrus higher.

I’ll keep this short . Like everyone else I love this fragrance AND I actually get good longevity out of it I’m getting around 8 hours. But I always use my trick or applying fragrance-free aveeno lotion to make my fragrance last longer.

This would be a great scent if the sweetness was toned down, much too sweat in my opinion. Edit: After an hour the sweetness is gone, really liking this one now.

This smells like a Christmas tree, straight up. Wish it was a little more femme so I could pull it off, I’ll have to give the rest of this sample to my partner

The opening conjures a bright green scented marker from childhood - Google tells me it's the light green/mint scented Mr. Sketch marker. Citrusy and herbal spicy, with a tart flat rhubarb note. On paper this smelled savory edible, but on my skin it sweetens with a fresh spiciness. Overall too fougere for my taste. I tested this in December but this one definitely requires a hot weather re-test - the fir and cypress I think would shine with some heat.

This reminds me of the days camping deep in the woods. It smells like the air right after a cleansing rain. Crisp and green. The cypress and fir are the standout fragrances in this. It is quite a photorealistic outdoors trip. I can see why some would find this to be a really lovely fragrance. I just find the cypress and fir to be too pungent of a fragrance for me. However, if you are drawn to crisp, evergreen scents, you will likely enjoy Idyllwild.

Very light perfume, perfect for when I dont want anything strong or loud. Doesnt leave a trail but perfect when you want to smell good and not steal attention. This smells really good. Fresh woods, sour sweet juicy rhubard citrus combo. Tea make it fresh and interesting, tea not too strong or screechy. Oud is woody but not oudy or animalic; really dont smell any oud. This is also green like grass. For cool weather not cold. Warm weather not hot.

I’m getting mostly Juniper berries in this, though it’s not listed in the notes. Smells not just similar but almost identical to Juniper Sling by Penhaligons (except Penhaligons has a better bottle design imo). Not bad, but have to get past the gin-and-tonic reminder.

I’m realising that oud, even a little bit, seems to be a problem for my skin and/or my nose. I don’t get any of the top notes from this - instead I get oud and moss. I don’t dislike it but realistically don’t think I’ll ever wear it.

Wanted to like it but it was sweeter than expected with semi poor performance

Although this is stunning on paper, neither myself nor my fiancé can get past the oud in this one. Instead of being a smoky scent, it turns to pure unwashed stench on both of us within minutes. This is definitely not something I would recommend one buy without wearing first - that was my mistake. On paper this is a pure forest, clean and perhaps a bit damp.

Searching for a realistic fresh Christmas tree scent. This smells more like forest dirt than forest trees.

great!!!! reminds me of the floral women's section in Sephora (don't know those by name too well) but with a lovely earthy background. Like standing in a country garden. True gender neutral. Could easily see this on a man or a woman. EDIT: I just caught a whiff of what I thought was Mason Margiella's Jazz Club about 10 hrs after spraying. It was very weak but it confused me for a second. So, it interesting that they list a different Mason Margiella (that I haven't smelled before.) I'll also say that this smelled more like soap (?) as the day went on. Not complaining! It just loses the botanical quality over the course of the day, which I suppose is on par with most greens.

I love the smell of the woods, but I've never found a woody fragrance that I've wanted to wear. They always smell too masculine and harsh to me. I sampled this at Tigerlilly perfumery in San Francisco and am blown away. I adore this! It's woodsy, but in a muted way and feels very soft and fresh. Veers more feminine but could certainly be unisex. I'm thrilled to find a woody scent that I can wear with delight. This feels more spring and fall to me than summer, but that's because I love florals and citrus for summer. Silage is moderate, wears more closely to the skin, which I prefer. Longevity is about 3 hours on skin, but days on fabric. LOVE!!

I got my sample from Tigerlily I found this very reminiscent of CDG Wonderwood, but done with a lighter more joyful hand. There are rays of sunlight streaming into this woodland, it's not all dark and moody, and the oud is subtle but adds a necessary sophistication. Sillage is on the low side, it wears fairly close, and it's not very potent (Wonderwood on the other hand lasts and lasts). I wish the complex and very interesting opening lingered, but on me Idyllwild quickly settles into a pleasant, close to the skin, but not very ground-breaking fragrance. Which is just what's needed sometimes...

Like laying down in a meadow and watching the canvas of cloud shapes pass by. The more I focused, the more nuances were detectable. This smells of the wild air in a clearing in the deep woods. Wildflowers have been trampled by foraging animals, and the smell of strange plants crushed by their passage haunts the area. A hint of lightning hitting a distant conifer from a day old storm lingers over the green verdant glade. A bit of citrus (probably the rhubarb combining with other notes) brought in by a sweet breeze completes this slice of nature, a macrocosm of outdoor wonder!

This does have general similarity to Terre D'Hermes in that it opens with distinct citrus and woods - this is a touch earthy but far less so that TdH. It is also greener with the undried tea-leaf, a touch sweet by comparison and subtly floral. The cypress and fir combined with that opening make this a very experiential scent - by the time this begins to dry down, you are taking a fragrant stroll through a pine forest. I think fans of the discontinued "Soul of the Forest" by Maison Martin Margiela should definitely try this one out.

Is a photorealistic in-the-woods, atmospheric pine forest scent... It opens up and becomes more complex as it dries down creating a three dimensional scene to the nose recalling photorealistic images of pine, the earthy ground beneath your feet and the smell of logs and mossy pathways. I'm not certain if there are any types of lavender that grow in such forests so I think the perfumer used the lavender to highlight the pine which it does beautifully and adds dimension.

An earlier post said this is straight up Christmas tree, but I find this smells nothing like a X-mas tree, there is no pine in this scent, in fact, I'm really not getting any kind of forest reference at all. The grapefruit rind is super sour and never really goes away. The oud is just plain gross. Capital R for Rancid. I had such hopes for this as I've been to Idyllwild California before and it is a lovely little Apline mountain town about an hour from Palm Springs.

It’s funny how a memory can completely override a nose no matter how trained. As I sit with it I can force myself to pick out the notes and the citrus and rhubarb are getting a touch more prominent, but boy does this smell like a Christmas tree.

This is gorgeous! I managed to track down a shop selling this in the UK and got a couple of samples.... To me it smells like a slightly softer and more herbal mix between YSL Elle and 4160 Tuesdays Red Queen- love it!

this is so so lovely on paper with the lavender, tea and woody notes coming through beautifully, but on my skin it goes too sharp/sour. absolutely tragic

Aray, I read that she is only sending samples to preferred customers but the sample set has been updated so you can try it, plus the others for $25.

This was NOT launched in 2015! I met Ineke in person last night, and she told me this is a future release.

Where on Earth can I get a sample of this?!
