The Captain

I imagine this as Guerlain’s Herba Fresca dressed by Tom Ford. Beautiful herbs and spices aromatic. As good as it gets within the category. I see this as an easy daily wear and think will get a lot of use from my bottle. Elegant yet cavalier. You know how some people look great without even trying. This is that just in spray format. Well done Insider Parfums.

This is a very good reproduction of Italian Cypress, though, as alanwake has pointed out, it's not precisely the same. There's more citrus in the opening (or perhaps the top notes of my decant of the original have faded) and it's a bit fresher throughout. It's still a great substitute and performs better than the original.

Oh. My. God. This is the best citrus scent I've ever smelt. I'll test with adding Oakmoss Absolute to see if I can give it more depth and longevity. UPDATE: Oakmoss makes it more intense, would probably work in tiny quantities, but obscures some of the top notes which makes it bright and fresh. On the other hand, Sandalwood works wonderfully with it. Makes it a bit of different a perfume, but still beautiful. I'm going to test my 10ml a bit longer but for now I'm on 90% that I'll buy full bottle. I doubt that I'll make any modifications to it - maybe make a 15ml mixture with Sandalwood. I'd put this on Aventus level - completely unique, undoubtably masculine, high quality signature scent. UPDATE 2 Sandalwood pairs well, takes out a some of the strong sharpness without losing the accent of main notes. On the other hand, dry down after 2h become slighly unpleasantly soapy. Changed my rating. I'm no longer sure if I'd buy a full bottle. Maybe small dose of oakmoss will smooth out the drydown.

It's not Vintage Italian Cypress, but it's enjoyable. It's overeall fresher, lighter, and has more of a piney vibe. If I had to compare it, it would say its closer to the rerelease version of IC, but not fully matching neither one. It does offer a pleasant experience, although it seems to lack a certain element relating to oakmoss regulations and other nuances. Nevertheless, it remains a commendable choice as an alternative.

My least favourite out of all the TF discontinued frags. It's got some old school vibes but a little to old, almost like a cheap old barbershop scent. I'm not blaming Insider Parfums, because I think the rest of the line is just great but this one lacks longevity, sillage and scent beauty. Maybe the OG was this, the mint is pretty harsh I feel, maybe that's what's killing it for me. But the other ones are really really great, my favourite being Mossy Bridges, just WOW!
