I.Patchouly

#1596 in my "Tour de Fragrance" Got this as a decant from scentsplit.com. I haven't experienced a better patchouli/incense scent than this. I may not have experienced a better green scent than this. It's a hard call for me as great patchouli-focused scents are plentiful, particularly for women. Personally, for the ladies I like Guerlain "Patchouli Paris" because I love strong iris notes. But this one is special, and it seems obvious to say this, but adding celery really ups the "greenness" of this scent in a delicious way. All they need to top this is peanut butter. This reminds me most of Daniel Jossier "Ambre Tabac" and 4160 Tuesdays "Eau My Soul", which are both fabulous but in the same price range as this, which is not cheap at $200 and up and not widely available. If I knew of a less expensive scent for women that comes close, I'd tell you. Mancera "Red Tobacco" at $80-90 might be an acceptable stand-in for the guys, Maybe Maison Alhambra "Signatures II" which goes for $20. This is definitely date wear for guys. I'd only wear it to the office if I was looking for office romance, which I have never done. I see this as cool/cold weather night wear for sure. But it should be safe in tight spaces if you don't overdo it. Acceptable EDP potency that's all-day-long lasting and projects six feet. This goes on the "to be acquired list" for me, but it's a long list, and it would take a winning lotto ticket to clean out. Good Luck and Good Hunting!

One of the best patchouli fragrances. It reminds me of jovoy psychedelique minus that chocolaty note. Very good performer too, it lasts for a long time and projects strongly for the first 4 hours. I highly recommend it.

EDITED: I was able to locate a very affordable, full bottle x 100ml of this fragrance. I'm updating my review; it is now August 2025. So, IMHO, IO.KO 1954 Patchouly is still a huge WOW!! I love it. The fragrance's opening is smooth, warm, definite patchouli. And upon initial application, I DO detect a huge chocolate cake vibe, which thankfully (for me) quickly passes. I do not mind the chocolate bomb patchouli vibe; however the chocolate forward notes are not my favorite patchouli notes... I am happy to see the chocolate notes pass after initial application. IO.KO Patchouly is very patchouli forward. Warm, creamy, lactonic. Mid-notes of incense, smoke and sandalwood quickly emerge. These notes blend seamlessly with the opening bits. Landing notes are amber, vanilla, musk...and patchouly. The subtle changes between, within and amongst notes is pretty incredible, IMHO. And while omnipresent, the patchouli does not overwhelm, or push all other notes out of the way. This fragrance is all about the blending. Really a perfect, wearable, lovely patchouly fragrance.

The opening is very herbal, minty, and medicinal, this patchouli is the 1960s Woodstock type and has a kind of hippy vibe to it. I think it is the most intriguing and daring of the IO-KO line, Enzo has pushed the boundaries a little with this one. It is fairly challenging (in the Areej le Dore realm) and niche-heads will love it, at the same time it is fairly addictive. The dry-down loses some of the eucalyptus and the tobacco, incense, sandalwood and other patchouli-supporting notes push through. Presentation of IO-KO is top quality and they have some of the best atomisers money can buy. Longevity for me was 6-8 hours, sillage stays around the wearer and never becomes obtrusive or cloying. Overall, this isn't something that will wow you at first sniff, nor is it mass-appealing. It is a unique and a must-have for patchouli connoisseurs though. 7/10

Probably one of the most authentic patchouli's there is. It is very third-dimensional and chocolatey. I'm not too crazy over patchouli, although I do love Patchouli Absolu for its classiness and its clean smokiness. This one, however, is more luscious, smoky, and creamy in the most possible way. I wish it had a bit of leather to add virility to the composition. As it stands, I find it completely unisex. Io.Ko 1954 produces nothing but refined, quality scents, this one is no exception.
