If you grew up in Germany or Austria like me, you probably know this scent from your childhood. This is the western european equivalent of what Brut/Old Spice or Polo Green is to americans. I can’t really write a neutral review because nostalgia hits me hard when i smell this. It smells green, soapy, uber masculine, very vintage and reminds you of grandpas bathroom. Smells like a hard working man who takes good care of his family. It has a certain cheap-drugstore vibe going on in the most positive way possible. Just like Brut for example it doesn’t necessarily reek of high quality perfumery but drugstore colognes have a charm of their own. I personally only use the aftershave from time to time because it’s so well known here and a lot of people associate this with their grandfather or father, but if you’re from somewhere else, you might want to give it a shot, just like i can enjoy polo green here because it never really was a popular fragrance here in Austria. The smell is exactly what i remember from the 90ies btw, seems like it hasn’t been reformulated to death. If you want a more refined, upscale version of this try Floris Elite.

I've become a true fan of aftershaves in the past few months. They wake you up, slap you in the face, and make you feel amazing every morning. Original Denim is my old go to. Its woody, fresh and old school masculine. Good Morning bro!! But yesterday I found this little herbacious gem. :-) So green, rich and complex. No Joke! I was very surprised because the name seemed so kitschy. I guess I would consider this the everyman's aftershave. I have not tried the EDT but appreciate the nature of aftershaves not lasting too many hours. I can either wear something different after, or simply layer it with something appropriate. Tabac or Old |Spice to me is just yawn inducing. Sorry If I offend lovers of these classics. But this baby makes me feel so gooooooooood! Definitely barbershop, a green and fresh fougere. Don't let the Moos in the name fool you though. It's soo much more than that. Very well blended and affordable. I found 150 ml. for 16 dollars. If I have Denim original (or Denim Gold here in Europe) and Sir Irisch Moos in my bathroom cabinet I'm set for life. Happy to find something so simple and affordable that I really love.

Another masterpiece by the German perfume house Mäurer & Wirtz, released in 1969. It has a very natural scent profile — an aromatic fougère in its finest form. On my nose, it feels like the grandfather of Obsession for Men and the great-grandfather of Boucheron Jaipur. There is an astonishingly realistic oakmoss note — almost like an absolute. It persists throughout the entire fragrance: from the opening, wrapped in fresh green nuances, through the base with its classic “German soap” character, and into the drydown, where it blends with tonka beans and a moderately animalic, dry musk. Once again, it proves the uniqueness of this perfume house in preserving the original character and notes of their fragrances, despite reformulations. For vintage perfume lovers, this is a must-have. In terms of price-to-quality and historical value, it has almost no rivals. To truly understand the concept and mood of this fragrance, it’s worth watching the old German TV commercials — several of them can be found on YouTube.

A brilliant green fresh scent, already very nicely described by anessa! I own multiple bottles of the aftershave and the edt and both are exactly the same in smell the edt being fairly stronger while the aftershave is already pretty strong! I am sure the green notes contain a fair dose of pine cause that is imo a pretty dominant note. To me it is like a refined Krizia Uomo (an excellent 'brother' of Irisch Moos so to speak). The cloves, coriander and moss are well blended with the green notes to make the total sum a very fresh sharp green masculine scent. One of the better cheapies one can get. A must have for lovers of Krizia Uomo, One Man Show and Quorum imo! Rating: 8.5/10

Classic aromatic fougère scent profile. Although, compared to household names like Paco Rabanne Pour Homme, Polo Green or Bogart Signature, Irish Moos isn't as "brutal". It's unapologetically green, masculine and projects as it should but has a slightly calmer and rounder temper than most of its competitors straight from the opening. It's the perfect pick when you're in the mood for some old school greenness but rather spare your nostrils from brash openings. Irish Moos is also incredibly cheap for what it has to offer, which makes it kind of blind buy safe if you're into these types of fragrances.

This review is for the vintage (pre-barcode) 75ml aftershave spray, round green bottle w/ tall rippled silver cap. This is a very nice, clean, fresh, masculine and well-blended fragrance of the 70s. Seriously gorgeous oakmoss w/ fresh almost piney green notes and aromatic lavender is what I get the most. The atomizer is outstanding, producing a constant vapour that stops when you release the button. Very nice. A top-quality German fragrance, that makes you feel good and smell even better! Longevity and projection is well above average. Allthough being an aftershave, it packs a good punch. 10/10

Wella, a German hair care company owned Muelhens (since 1994) P&G took over Wella in 2003 (and therefore Muelhens). Down the track, P&G sold parts of its perfume portfolio to Mäurer & Wirtz (including Irisch Moos, 4711 etc.). SIR is derived from the German word RaSIERhilfen which literally translates to "shaving help (products)". SIR International was used to add an international touch.

smells like Creed Viking Cologne, and its older than CVC. Irisch Moos..... my dad had it...my uncles had it and it was all around you. A solid performer from Mäurer & Wirtz. A green leather scent...mossy, powdery,leathery and a soft floral touch. Yes, a green Aramis hits the nail on the head. I doubt that this scent smells like Creed Viking / Creed Viking Cologne. But I believe Creed Viking / Creed Viking Cologne smells like Irisch Moos because Viking / Viking Cologne was released 2017 / 2021....decades later.

Fougere Masterpiece! Green, aromatic, fresh! It has citrus and soapy facets also, but overall its just wonderfully green and aromatic. Harsh & rugged around the edges but that just contributes more to its overall beauty. By far my favourite green scent. Stood the test of time, after 50 years its still here with us going strong. Great price vs quality value also. Stunning!

Sterling Soap Company has the full line of this fragrance called I’Rich Moose. Shave soap, aftershave, EDT, aftershave balm, soap, shampoo bar, and conditioner bar. Of course it’s a clone version but I have personally tried it side by side and I am very pleased with Sterling’s interpretation of Sir Irisch Moos.

I only have the genuine aftershave to compare, but as noted below, Stirling Soap Company dupe is pretty much spot on. Opens with bitter citrus and greens, then the musky, slightly powdery oakmoss takes over. It is very soft and fresh, while remaining masculine. If you like the classics, this is a must.

For me it's a very nostalgic perfume, waking up in the morning as on the weekend to the smell of this exact perfume(the aftershave) coming from my parents bathroom. It's a classic that smells fresh and green with some really nice barbershop vibes.

Ordered from Smallflower, which acts as the website for Merz Apothecary, a Chicago based establishment that's been around since the late 19th century! Absolutely amazing that they're still active, I love shops like this and if I'm ever in Chicago I know 100% this is one of the destinations that I'll be landing at while I'm there. Anyways, Sir Irisch Moos was originally created by Procter & Gamble in 1969 if I'm not mistaken, and mind you that this was long before they had purchased Shulton, the manufacturers of Old Spice, so they actually had this in their portfolio for over 20 years before that. Judging by the name, I'm not for sure that this was ever an American product though, I know that Sir Irisch Moos is a German staple, and I believe Maurer & Wirtz acquired the brand in 2006. Unfortunately, there's not a ton of history that I could just find on the internet about SIM, but I'm very interested to see if I can dig anything else up other than this. As far as how it smells, it's just a really awesome old timey scent that I picture a German dad wearing in the 70s or 80s. It's green, it does have this fresh citrus to it, but it's primary function is that it's green and mossy, and it has this light, powdery, sweet, musky backbone that is prevalent with old school aftershaves. I think it would pair well with a lot of the green powerhouses from the 70s and 80s, things like Bogart Signature, Quorum, Polo, or Paco Rabanne, however there's also just the EDT version of SIM, which I still have yet to get, and perhaps I'll review that one as well since I do now plan on getting it since I've had such a good experience with this. I think it's definitely for the 30+ crowd maybe even like 45+ crowd, but there are also plenty of young people who are into fragrances such as these, and to them I would absolutely recommend giving this a try. It's not a cheap aftershave, it'll cost around $25-30 shipped, but for me I also got it for the history that it has, and also just knowing that at any time now this could be a brand lost forever to time, like so many other great old scents from the past.

Bright opening with bitter greens. Dries down to a classic dry masculine aromatic, similar style as Paco Rabanne Pour Homme but less soapy. As the option for fragrance has expanded the once Christmas staples of Soap on a rope, aftershave splash and shaving soap have pretty much disappeared. Yes, it was once common for the popular men’s aftershaves to be accompanied with the full kit for grooming. As popularity decreased, portions of the line would get cancelled. Some may have been fortunate to receive those gifts in abundance (my grandfather had old spice sets like Schroeder in Peanuts had spare pianos) but now the shave soaps are scarce in some cases. As noted below, Stirling has released the full line and they make great items all around, so if you are missing part of the ritual seek them out. While it is nice to have the most popular scents of today, I still love the art of wet shaving and the full compliments of a scent line up for my casual stay at home days when my goal is impressing no one other than myself. Getting caught up in dated and old fashioned feels like missing out to me? In the late eighties I remember still being fascinated by an eight track cassette and friends that still had a player. Yes, there is still magic in the past...Now if I can just find a soap on a rope.

Irisch Moos is good. It has an unexpected "classic" smelling note. I love green fragrances and fougères and this is one of them. Recommend trying before buying or starting off with a partial bottle at a lower price. It also makes a nice scent to wear on St. Patrick's Day! 🍀

This is a gentleman's soft "hello" and gentle squeeze of the shoulder, in contrast to Brut's brash "Hey how ya doin'?" with the too-firm handshake and unreciprocated slap on the back.
