A Drop d'Issey Essentielle

The OG is creamy like a body cream, this one is watery like a body wash. Fresh and absolutely perfect for summer days and for the gym. Bc of the watery feel, this does not last half as much as the original one. I tried that one first and found it extremely versatile but i think this tops that one in versatility esp since this is also perfectly unisex unlike that one which is very feminine to my nose. i would personally wear both year round since i live in a hot place and don't experience cold but i suppose the OG could be a nice everyday scent for the winter since it is thicker and creamier and this one for the summer. the only complaint i have with this one is the longevity but over spraying it helps. the og however gave me a headache when i sprayed it recently... so both have their pros and cons lol. pick and choose based on what you prefer or be like me and get both heheh. i don't find them similar at all and i will get so much use out of both bc they are so easy to wear

I expected nothing from it, but it actually turned out to be really great. Fresh aquatic floral. It's a watercolor type of fragrance. You definitely can feel it, but it doesn't enter the room before you do. Projection is medium. Lasted on me for about +8hours. But again it's a soft kind of scent, so don't expect it to be loud and/or loud during the whole day you're wearing. It does remind me Aura in a way. But in its best part. Green aquatic flower, feels like a sea breeze, but with no sweetness as in Aura. I'd definitely recommend it. Suitable for office. Kind of a clean skin smell type.

Smells nothing, I repeat, NOTHING, like the original A Drop d'Issey. And because of that, I LOVE it, as I cannot stand the original at all. This is as close to a rainy scent in the forest as one can get. It's not marketed as such, but it reminds me of rain, so I'll go with that. Beautiful, beautiful scent. I am totally in love with it. Opens with very fresh green aquatic smell. I detect green notes and watery notes (that are not salty, thankfully), and maybe a tiny bit of magnolia, and those are enough for me. Simple, elegant, beautiful. This is the fragrance I've been waiting for but never knew I needed. PS. Doesn't smell like a typical masculine fragrance to my nose. It's totally unisex.

Upon hearing good reviews on this and enjoying nature-based and floral scents myself, I decided to pick this fragrance up. At first, after waiting for the alcohol to dissipate, it smelled a bit cloyish, but it grew on me quite a bit. The leafy and lilac notes mix very well, and it smells pretty fresh. On my skin, it does not have great sillage, as I have to get close to my arm to really smell it, but I think it is a good discrete fragrance for those who enjoy sweet and floral scents. It stays on my skin from early morning to late at night, and it may attract compliments. As someone who prefers strong scents, it still gets a 7/10!

It's like a boy or girl just took a bath then go walking around a green field after the rain stopped. It's greennnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn, clean, soapy and watery but you'll feel a musk and white floral behind it. It's quite natural scent. Longevity is ok for this kind of fresh perfume. I wear 5-6 sprays I get 5-7 hours but when Im wearing this 8-10 sprays, I get 8 Hours +- on my skin (Which is good!). Projection is good for first 2 hours after that it'll become skin scent. Smell 8/10 Longevity 7.5/10 Projection 7/10 Overall 7.5/10 It's really good but not great. Anyway, I like it.

This is pleasant, but almost too subtle for its own good. It's a very tranquil, light green scent that feels almost sensual and frankly quite maternal. Mother nature's gentle caressing breeze.Dewy lillac blossoms and stews over a gently zesty Magnolia. An absolute skin scent, but sometimes we need thoose. The scent reminds me of Estee Lauder Beautiful Magnolia with a very slight touch of L'eau d'Issey. and Fragonard's Lilas. I think I'll be using this for early morning spritzes after a hot bath or for interviews. Defintely worth a try if the price is good.

This is my latest buy and I really like it. A beautiful soft dewy floral aquatic for spring and summer. No harsh synthetics (my nose is very sensitive to all the different ambroxans, cashmerans, etc.). The longevity is indeed fairly weak but that's the price I'm willing to pay for softer more delicate scents. I don't mind reapplying. In fact, my motto has become to spray to my heart's content, and when I finish a bottle there are so many exciting options I can replace it with. I think this is blind-buy safe for most freshie lovers.

Clean, green, summertime aquatic. Not groundbreakingly different from other aquatic fresh Isseys but still very nice. I appreciate the lack of rose in this though - it's less floral focused overall than his others. The original A Drop d'Issey is more special than this IMO. Totally different and worth trying. I don't smell any lilac at all in any of the A Drop d'Issey line. Sad about it.

Forgot I had bought this. Following Eddie B's positive review, I hit up TKMaxx, and then misfiled Drop in my collection (actually the more appropriate word is 'hoard) until yesterday. Eddie was not wrong about it being a beautiful thing - it's rather lovely and very much in my 90s aquatic wheelhouse. The bottle is nice too, it is very tactile and feels like a meditation palmstone.

I bought it during Christmas sales and kept it for springtime. I opened it yesterday and sprayed it on my arm. It's a nice green scent, but very weak. It disappeared after one hour on me, and I need to spray it again. I don't recommend buying it without sales because it's too expensive for this longevity, only if you find it with a big sale.

My friend's mom gifted me a sample and I decided to use it this summer when I went on vacation. It's very pleasant and clean, sooo comforting for a warm spring day. Smells like freely running through flower fields or lying in bed all day while the sun keeps you warm, unfortunately, I start getting headaches after wearing it for a while

I like this, smells feminine and fresh. Dew drops and lilac. editing to add: I grew up with a big, beautiful lilac tree that I would play under like a fort. This reminds me of being there after it rained. If lilac is not sentimental to you, this scent may indeed seem boring, but for me it recalls feeling "safe," in the best way.

Extremely wearable and likeable, not going to offend anyone. It's a great scent that reminds me of when you've gone to the beach, then showered and dried off, but your hair is still wet. It's afternoon but not evening yet and you might grab a mojito or maybe some iced tea

Adjectives that describe this fragrance: Green, dewy, soft, delicate, petrichor, soapy, fresh, aquatic, watery....I do have a fondness for these clean slightly powdery, dreamy, Nivea fragrance’s. The magnolia is pretty prominent in this giving it a lemony floral quality.

I find this scent very greeny and citrusy but mostly green and musk almost like a musky grass to me, It's light and inoffensive scent for office wear, it's gotten me compliments before and I enjoy the inoffensive nature.

In hot muggy weather, which perhaps isn’t its intended use, I get a creamy sheer version of Kenzo Amour. I’m sure this is meant for cooler temps, but I couldn’t resist trying it as soon as it arrived!

Fresh, spring-like, green scent. It sparkles in the morning sun like dew on a meadow. It is soothing and delicate. Airy. Subtly noticeable and fleeting.

Have got it by mistake, aimed for the OG A Drop d'Issey, but the description from the seller was totally misleading, unfortunately. It's not bad, but I would not buy it again or after trying it previously in person. I usually like green and fresh sents, but this one seems too generic and lacks same any uniqueness as longevity 🙄 I'm not sure about aquatic notes, maybe some? Most of all I can smell crushed green leaves and mint, too much mint actually. Can't be sure but reminds me of a linear bamboo scent from the 2000', maybe from Ives Rocher (can't be sure today), which I finally passed to my dad, as I couldn't make myself wearing it. I would definitely also call this one unisex, no doubt. And unfortunately, not even a hint of lilac, which is a shame as I do love this flower and collect lilac perfumes. Now waiting for the delivery of white A Drop d'Issey and hoping for much more prominent lilac note in it. And for a better longevity 🙈

I had such high hopes for this one! I have been dying to try both the original Drop d’Issey and this one, so I blind bought both. The two scents have very different auras despite being from the same line. Original is creamy and girly and floral; Essentielle is sharp and indeed aquatic but in a way that feels very Sephora-esque. When I read that the top notes were green leaves, I fully expected green leaves! There’s maybe a dash of green in there, but it swims underneath a more potent mix of aquatic notes and magnolia. I don’t get mint at all like some others do. I’m still new to the fragrance world. Perhaps aquatic perfumes just aren’t for me. Overall I keep finding that the ones I smell, especially with citrus, just smell generic. The search for a perfect nostalgic, watery green floral continues!

I like this. Nice blend of green, aquatic and floral notes. It's very fresh, just lightly sweet and not overly musky. I like it better actually than the Eau Fraiche which reads somewhat masculine on my skin. This is softer and more delicate. Update, November 2023 - Subsequent to my initial review, I purchased a travel spray of this scent and the same thing that happened with the Eau Fraiche happened here too. Although I had sampled both scents several times before purchasing, once I got the travel sprays i found they both leaned a bit too masculine for me. I'm considering letting this one go to DD as she really likes it. I'll give it a few more tries and then decide...

I bought this as a mistake instead of the Fraiche version that I ran out of. I much prefer Fraiche. This one has a strong minty opening that I don't like. Also could be an allergic reaction, but it also feels minty on the skin. It's fresh, it's green. I prefer it after it sits on the skin for some time (just like Fraiche) but it's still worse than Fraiche. I'm glad it's not supper floral, it leaves the white flowers scent on the skin after drying but it's subtle. If it had a little more flowery scent it would smell very generic. I will keep it for summer for really hot days, but it's nothing special. If you like green scents you should try it though.

This was sent to me in error instead of the original Drop. I'm pretty sure that is much more my type of scent, but perhaps it was not to be. I don't dislike Essentielle, but can't say I love it: it smells very masculine on me. I don't pick up magnolia at all (Estee Lauder's Beautiful Magnolia is one of my favourites). That said, I didn't think I could detect much lilac either, but then I bought a lilac shower gel by Le Petit Marseillais and realised it smelt very familiar. I will keep this for hot, humid weather or muggy spring days.

Honestly, Im quite disappointed... I really dont understand why this perfume is classified as green or aquatic and i cant sense anything from lylac- its pure vanilla. I find this perfume very boring and sweet, first i feel terrible vanilla, after few minutes it becomes very masculine in some way, like after shave of an old man, half an hour later the aroma is almost gone and only some sugar coconut-vanilla accords remain. Its not bad or heavy perfume, but its veeery trivial and sweet aroma, that isnt remarkable at all.

A soft, fresh green scent, like newly budded leaves in spring. It also smells a little like laundry detergent to me. Poor sillage, quite weak. I agree with another reviewer that it has zero personality. It's a very nothing fragrance. It smells fine, but it doesn't say anything; it doesn't show me what the person wearing it is like or how they want to come across. It's inoffensive but boring. It doesn't evoke the excitement or hope of springtime. I'm glad I got to try it, but I don't need to wear it again.

I had the blue one of the trio for a short while and gave it away because the end-note was rather sad. (I make the distinction between "sad" perfumes and upbeat ones. Maybe this only makes sense for me.) I tried this one (A Drop d'Issey Essentielle), and it really is the blue one, minus the "sad" end-note. But staying power is zero, and the scent itself is there for about a minute before it is gone. It's a pleasant scent, you just can't enjoy it for very long.

It smells like a generic cucumber shampoo or body lotion. The other two drops are much, much, much nicer, the OG is so complex, rich and long lasting and the blue one is really light and airy. I guess they just wanted to do three and this one feels unnecessary. It's not a bad scent by any means though, so if you're into this scent profile you can give it a try!

i was really excited to go and try this for weeks, i finally tested it and it didn't live up to what i hoped. very weak, even when i tried it on a warm day. it was a decent green rainy scent for the 2 minutes it lasted, but also a bit too soapy. there are probably better choices out there for this vibe, so my search will continue

This wasn't a love at first sniff, but now I think this is stunning. It smells like a rain on the plants. It's green, marine and dewy. Very different and long lasting, and I absolutely adore the bottle. Issey Miyake fragrances never disappoint. It's feminine and clean, perfect for spring and summer.

It certainly smells green. Very light and sadly not lasting. Not something I would wear, personally. I prefer the l'eau d' issey range and its million squillion flankers. I don't use this myself, as I said, but my male housemate does and it smells gorgeous on him.

Very light fragrance that smells very generic. A little bit of florals and a huge amount of aquatic notes, that makes this scent fade away in a blink.

I loved the original Drop d'Issey but this was a disappointment. This is weak, has zero personality and was just not pleasant.

This is a synthetic laundry detergent or hair spray and if that's your thing go for it. Longevity is poor. Meh.

The prettiest smelling drop flanker however disappears after 10 minutes on the skin. So sad

I've been dying to try this one before taking the plunge and buying it online and finally found it in store, imagine my disappointment when I tested it and it smelled like drugstore perfumed foundation. it's not bad by any measure, however as someone who's been wearing makeup for over a decade I don't think I could bear to wear this, though I'd definitely recommend it if you're in search for a fresh and floral scent.

Tried it in sample size, and definetly not going to buy in full. I like the look and presentation of it, but not the smell. At first the green accent is interesting, then it becomes unpleasantly soapy. Cheap soap with lilac scent. Overpriced for such a perfume.

Magnolia bar soap. Soapy floral aquatic body wash, strong generic “sea breeze” fragrance; like a toilet cleaner or car air freshener combined with overpowering powdery floral notes.

I am so bored with all these new green watery floral scents, they're apparently very hard to get right because the majority of the ones I've tried have a nauseating (and assumingly unintentional) sweetness to them, like the sweetness of something that is just about to rot. A Drop d'Issey Essentielle is unfortunately no exception; smells like damp hay and warm plastic. Not a fan. Edit: I got a rash from spraying this on my arm... I do have somewhat sensitive skin but I have never ever gotten a reaction from a perfume before. Makes me wonder what things they put in this.

Green cut grass mixed with dry hay. Extremely green grassy scent. I didn't feel anything there anymore. For me unpleasant..

The magnolia accord is handled much the same way as in Calice Becker’s Tommy Girl from 1996. The lilac note is vivid and persistent for the first thirty minutes, before it yields to the magnolia. Even as it fades, it lends the magnolia an added layer of floral, inedible sweetness it would not have on its own, which makes the lilac’s presence feel purposeful. There is a strong dose of aquatic musk here, the kind of potent, laundry-clean accord that hearkens back to the fresh florals of the nineties, hence the comparison to Becker’s scent. If you told me this were an unused Tommy Girl flanker mod, and I hadn’t seen the bottle or known anything about it beforehand, I would believe you. There is no green tea in sight, of course, and the materials feel higher in quality. Issey Miyake’s fragrances are typically styled for the Japanese market—fresh, sheer, transparent colognes that vanish by lunch and barely register to begin with, meant to avoid offending through either body odor or perfume. Yet A Drop d’Issey Essentielle feels distinctly Westernized; to my nose, it is more than strong enough. Overall, it succeeds in conjuring impressions of cleanliness, greenery, a floral garden, misty air, and the outdoors. The buzzy aquatic elements give it a modern, decidedly urban edge, and I’m still deciding whether that shift serves the composition or distracts from it.

Slightly disappointed. I didn't know what to expect, I guess I expected it to be good because I have the original drop d'Issey. I was interested in trying one of the flankers but I think after trying this I might as well just stop there. Longevity wise, it doesn't last that long for me. It starts off incredibly strong, almost burning my nose with how intense it is, and then it dissipates into almost nothing whatsoever. Opening is very alcohol-heavy. I get maybe a hint of freshness but the alcohol is just so overpowering here. And this doesn't really disappear for me. Through and through, to me this just smells incredibly cheap, synthetic, metallic and alcohol-heavy. That's not to say that I don't like synthetic fragrances, but it's not what I was expecting this to smell like.

I think at this point, I’m just fully committed to the Drop line, and Essentielle is yet another reason why. It's much more grounded than Fraîche or the original white Drop, but it still carries the beautiful lilac signature I love so much. It’s soft, dewy, more earthy, yes, like lilacs after the rain, but rooted. Green, close to nature, a little less abstract than the others. It leans into something quieter, more introspective, but still incredibly wearable and light. Here again, Issey’s minimalist approach shines as a precise and thoughtful composition. Every note is where it's supposed to be, it's minimalism with emotion. Essentielle is the most meditative one of the trio, and yes I need it too.

wow this is the softest prettiest green scent ever !! im not a green scent fan but this one is very pleasing :) the green notes have a soft side - not sharp bitter or earthy at all (well at least on me lol ) i honestly believe the lilac magnolia & musk greatly add to the softer side :) its def a light scent so great for every day or warm weather :) i love this "drop of" line........i hope it continues & the bottles are so cute too - maybe a bit hard to display lol but really who cares they are cute so i found a spot for them - theres always room for cute bottles right lol :)
