L'Eau Bleue d'Issey Eau Fraiche

I got an out-of-season offer on this and have been trying it for the first time today--albeit at room temperature (about 20°C) in Scotland in November. As I expected, it's a fragrance I'd have liked to take to Mexico on holiday a few months ago. I imagine it'd work well there. To my nose, it's light but not weak, straightforward and pretty linear but not monolithic. Yes, I did get an eye-opening blast of alcohol at first (not unpleasant), combined with a strong resinous note of what I suppose must've been rosemary but that, not looking at this page, I felt was more like juniper or maybe fir or cypress--kind of leafy-woody-sappy all the same. I liked that a lot but it seemed to last only seconds. Then the patchouli and especially the mint became more obvious. Incidentally, this isn't at all a leafy, nettly kind of mint but more a sweet menthol aura. I can see why people mention toothpaste, mentholated cigarettes, etc. but to me this seems much more natural and soft. Rounding off the mint and patchouli is a blurry, slightly sexy (I hesitate to say dirty) warmth, presumably from the musk; I really like the balance. The whole does not in any way smell like detergent to me but I did get a kind of fleeting laundry freshness early on. That seemed in keeping with what I agree is a kind of aquatic note but not aquatic in the established, marine sense. (I hate that kind.) This made me think more of rain and, yes, I can see why another poster mentions sliced cucumber. As well as the image of a soft cloud of mintiness all around me, the whole effect made me think of actual white clouds in summer sun and of white egyptian cotton, as much because of the all-pervading feeling of freshness as anything else. Sprayed on the sleeve of my wool jumper instead of--as above--my skin, the fragrance takes on more of a mossy or vetiver note. (I love it when that happens.) I'm a few hours in and can still clearly make out the musk, though not much else that I could name. I would say both sillage and longevity are reasonably good, although to me this is inherently a light fragrance (though, again, not weak) and more about ambience than a powerhouse punch in the face.

#1736 in my “Tour de Fragrance” Got this sample sprayette from scentwithsense.com. The rare Issey Miyake that I really like and would wear regularly, so of course it’s discontinued. Nice minty/musky scent for warm weather. The two hour performance one can expect from any fraiche, even if you bathe in it, but it smells great. There are some bottles still out there on eBay for $35-99. This musky herbal freshie is quite different from the Miyake “L’Eau Bleue” that is still available. If there’s an exact analogue to this scent I haven’t encountered it. There’s some similarity to Hugo “XY”, an EDT that’ still out there for around $30, but that is woody whereas this isn’t. And the others everyone’s mentioning (and I have had them all), add lavender to the mix which completely changes the character of this combination of notes to which the rosemary is the key. So I wish I had an alternative I could point to, but I don’t. Good Luck and Good Hunting!

This is basically a lighter, more linear take on the original Bleue. Or, as DrNDJas put it, a "fraiche" flanker that lives up to its name. The rosemary and bergamot are still the dominant notes here, just like in the original, but there's less depth to the fragrance overall. This isn't necessarily a bad thing; it's just as refreshing as Bleue - perhaps even more so - and keeps the calming, classy aroma without the heaviness or complexity. As such, it's a great choice for hot/humid weather when a citrus/aquatic just won't do. Now, I blind bought this only because I'm such a huge fan of the original Bleue, and if you own that already, this is probably going to smell quite redundant. That being said, it's still a high-quality fragrance, and I can recommend it to anyone looking for a budget fresh woody scent.

This is a perfect example of how to do an “eau fraiche” flanker! The unmistakable DNA of the original Bleu d’Issey is definitely here, but simplified and made transparent rather than dense. Rosemary is still the prominent player, followed by mint and mild citrus. Fresh and herbal, almost forest-like. Based on the herbal opening, the drydown is unexpected-and genius-revealing a beautiful light musk that lingers for a long time. I don’t detect much patchouli at all. Bleu eau Fraiche is a fragrance that transports me to a calm, serene place: a hot day, but you are sheltered from the heat, cooled by the shade of giant fir trees. If you are looking for a warm weather scent (it can also be worn anytime imo) that scores high in uniqueness and character, this is a great choice!

This is better than the original Bleue D’Issey in my opinion. Very strong rosemary note in this fragrance which helps to separate it from the original while still keeping the overall green vibe. When comparing to the original it almost feels like putting glasses on. It is a lot easier to pick out individual notes and everything feels more simplified, which works to this fragrances advantage in my opinion. Definitely more suited for warmer weather than the original, however I could still see this being worn in the winter. Even though this is a lower concentration I think it lasts just as long as the original. This fragrance is very herbal and clean and I think it can be dressed up or down.

A fresher and lighter version of original l'eau bleue, with mint on the top and slight sourness from bergamot throughout. While the original l'eau bleue may lean more towards cooler seasons, Fraiche indeed performs better in summer (albeit not an ideal cologne when temperature climbs over 35°C). Rosemary and musk are prominent, which lends it a medicinal aura as in the original version. As herbaceous as I love it. It's surprisingly a crowd pleaser. DISCONTINUED. side note 1: the sourness, which is stronger than the original, possibly was due to changes to the smell, as the bottle was produced more than 15 yrs ago and obviously its former owner didn't keep it well.

It's a nice fragrance and A Hidden Gem, Fresh, Clean, Bright, Airy and UPLIFTING. It opens up with like fresh bitter citrusy and green notes in the background then dry down is green musky. It has one of the best fresh opening men's perfumes. This is perfect for the spring and summer. The Patchouli, Rosemary and Mint notes are dominant in this perfume. Projection and Longevity are average, it smells so good and very pleasant, l really enjoy it and I love L'eau Bleue D'issey Eau Fraiche EDT for Men by Issey Miyake. Two Thumbs Up. Rating : 8.5 / 10

Omg! Why didn't I know about this one? Just tried it on about an hour ago. I haven't felt excited about a fragrance in a while. It is so sexy. But: I don't think longevity is that great. I mean it's only been like an hour and it's kinda fading away. (I think I just sprayed it twice on my wrist) I think I'll buy it and overdose on it before I leave the house! I'll give it one more try tmrw and see how that goes.

guys i dont know if my nose played a trick or what, but the drydown of this thing was very identical to YSL Lhomme and also Armaf niche platinum which are very similar in nature but not beast mode, this fragrance lasts a lot more and got very lovely aroma to it.im gonna surely buy this :) i recommend you to try this,this is gonna be a crowd pleasure and complement garner in springs and summer

Peppermint. I get a watery fresh mint vibe. Amazing frag with poor longevity. But... can we worn in 100F without a problem. Fresh mint like a chewing gum peppermint with a watery touch. Very green very pleasent and has that cooling effect. This is ONLY for the extreme heat with lots of sprays. Beach or nigh by the sea with blazing hot nights, high humidity. If you can get it cheap... take it.

Is it a good fragrance, not groundbreaking today but maybe it was in 2007 when it was introduced – a good day fragrance for summer or spring – more greenish that blueish – so the name can be misleading – you can still get it for a reasonable price though I noticed that prices were slowly moving up and are more expensive than the Bleue version which is also a lovely fragrance

Very bright but smooth citrus for first 10 mins or so lovely. Gets a little woodier as it goes along in mids but still fresh eventually settling to a standard blue/woody cedar frag. Longevity could be better and I stay hydrated and moisturize my skin. If you can get it cheap and don't mind reapplying then go for it,don't pay exorbitant prices on Ebay!

i used this fragrance for years and i loved it. When i was wearing it everyone were asking for this particular perfume on my skin. Pity that they did not continue its production. I loved it and I was never bored in smelling it. Day and night time from spring till autumn. It was great.

I have had this for almost 2 years now. Simply amazing. I reach this more than more expensive fragrances during warmer days. Perfect when weather is not very humid but still warm. Doesn't last long but one of my favourites

its good. i like it for winter even though its minty fresh because it has a stupid herby woodsy vibe that evokes a cute small woodland creature. It's stupid because it lacks depth, but it is good. its good overall

To me it smells just like the Bleue! Maybe a bit less intense. I dont really smell the bergemot and the mint is very faint, but I still love the smell and get compliments. It smells clean and fresh.

I picked this up in TJ-MAX for around $20!This is just fantastic summer scent! I like to saturate my t-shirt with this on those really hot and humid days!Underrated Gem!

This is clean sharp and safe to wear without offending anyone. All the notes used in this are so appealing to me - mint and patchouli - my favourite. Rosemary - nice!

Me-likey Miyake ! A simple but distinguished spring/summer scent that's best for any daytime dress shirt occasion, imo. A cool, astringent, bergamot peel soaked in mint-oil hits me in the opening accord; quickly establishing a "mature" herbal character. (By "mature" I simply mean more reserved than energetic in style.) As the scent develops, a calm and reassuring skin-musk warms up to my body temperature... and blends everything seamlessly to my skin. This is where "Bleu Fraiche" really shines. The musk diffuses rosemary and bergamot, to undermine it's bitter elements with a delicate citrus/floral tint. An understated and intimate "heart". Gentlemanly, without being uptight. I get a smooth, airy, close to body sillage for 5+ hours on my skin. Pretty good performance for a light, translucent scent. To say that "Bleu Fraiche" is simply "L'eau Bleu" without the spiciness and "body" (although true), would be doing it injustice. It has enough character of it's own to stand shoulder to shoulder with popular office-friendly scents like Bvlgari pour homme extreme, for example. There is one caution! This scent may work against those who have strong "scent-memory" of Vicks vapor rub, or a mentholated ointment -at least in the opening. I initially got that vibe myself to be honest. But fortunately... that disappeared after the scent develops. A "must try" for those who like Issey Miyake scents. Very Good.

FRESH AIRY CLEAN SLIGHTLY GREEN HERBAL/EARTHY L'Eau Bleue d'Issey Eau Fraiche is not a citrus-freshie instead it's a earthy-freshie that's non-aquatic unlike its fore-fragrance the OG L'Eau Bleue d'Issey Pour Homme. fresh slightly sweet juicy citrus/bergamot off the bat, has that classic L'eau D'Issey Pour Homme bright freshness but toned down so not as sharp, mint not really detectable, the rosemary along with the musk are the stars of the fragrance composition as the patchouli adds a slight earthiness, the patchouli & rosemary gives it good masculinity to counter the bright florals (May rose & Peony) & musk; good quality for the price, notes do not smell synthetic and all notes blends extremely well to help create & support each accord; really unique warm weather 'fraichie', just wish it projected better. when i 1st got it, i compared it with its fore-fragrance L'Eau Bleue d'Issey Pour Homme which made me realize how less deep & bold L'Eau Bleue d'Issey Eau Fraiche is compared to L'Eau Bleue d'Issey Pour Homme, but it still doesn't take away from the great craftsmanship and how good of a frag L'Eau Bleue d'Issey Eau Fraiche is. Projection/Sillage': LIGHT, an in-close scent mainly but decent 4-5 ft scent bubble for the 1st hour or so. Performance/Longevity: DECENT, 5-6 hours (on fabric)

I've been used to disappointment from the myriad 'L'eau...' flankers available and expected this to be much the same. To my surprise L'eau bleu d'Issey eau fraiche is a wonderfully fresh and strangely intriguing fragrance. Very, very prominent mint, usually not a note I care for especially when so dominant in the mix but this is truly an exception for me. The general vibe is watery but not aquatic more like sliced cucumber or something? It's a fresh citrus opening which compliments the minty and herbal element of rosemary which is definitely there too. The base is musk I can't say I got any patchouli. My girlfriend thought it smelled like tobacco...(I know bless her!!!) but I forgive her for not having the delicately nuanced sniffing abilities of a true frag head. Strangely I sort of got where she was coming from it does have a smell kinda similar to the inside of a fresh packet of menthol cigarettes, but that's more mint and paper than tobacco. This might be why people are getting a weird plastic smelling quality to it, L'eau bleu d'Issey eau fraiche is quite unusual but I like it.

... I have trouble seein’ the point of this one honestly. I mean it’s a Spring/Summer flanker of a fragrance that’s SUPPOSED to be for the Spring/Summer anyway. I actually DISPUTE THAT, on my skin at least the original Bleu is so peppery unless I apply it with the care of a heart surgeon you can taste me at the bar. I feel just as comfortable wearin’ it when it’s cold because off me it pierces. With this, you’re gettin’ the same but just less. I wanted more mint because I’m beggin’ for mint frag I can call me own but there’s none’a that on me. As a result I feel a bit dumbed down goin’ our with it in the cold and dullin’ off the edges makes it unusable for the Autumn/Winter. I just find it a bit What Is It For. It DOES come up in me rotation occasionally, but not often if I’m honest, an’ I kinda regret investin’ in it. But I paid less than £30 for it so I’m not too sad. It gets the barest recommendation possible. It’s nice but it didn’t need to exist. It feels more like these sorts of flankers were trendy so let’s bung one out.

My first impressions were _fresh, unique, aquatic, minty, interesting, energetic_. A bit shower room-y, the feeling you get stepping into the shower after doing a team sport like football and you try on a new "fresh" or "ice" shower gel. I didn't really know where to place this at first. I am happy with it and it was a blind buy. Can't say that I wear it out very much, more like I wear it at home sometimes to get stimulated by it. It's for a younger audience I think, 25-. I would say that it's best during the colder seasons, for me at least. I wore it one winter day having coffee with a friend in front of a fireplace - that was a good fit for me. In terms of performance it's adequate, a bit on the weak side. It starts out quite strong, but quickly looses a lot of power. However, a few extra sprays will give you some projection even after a few hours. The dry-down is more sweet, citrusy and one dimensional for me. In terms of the in your face freshness quality it reminds me of Versace Pour Homme. 7/10

L'Eau Bleu d'Issey Eau Fraiche is a wonderful, simple, versatile, citrusy, aromatic, fresh spicy men's scent. It opens with very strong note of bergamot and alcohol but in a few seconds, the smell of alcohol disappears. In a minute or so, appears the mild fresh spicy mint with a strong dominant note of rosemary. In a few minutes comes to the surface a strong note of patchouli which perfectly fits with the citrusy-rosemary note but never overpowers them. They are all here, a beautiful blend well mixed. The musk is noticeable but doesn't play vividly. The longevity is above the average and the projection is moderate. I consider it one of my best summer scents because of the nice smell and the good performance. I highly recommend it only for summer, day and night. There is a strong resemblance with the Zhirinovsky blue EDP but has better drydown (because of the patchouli which I like very much) and better performance. I love it!

It's a blind buy for me. My first reaction was: "Oh it reminds me so much of l'Eau Bleue, but in a toned down version". Actually I hadn't used l'Eau Bleue since last summer so now I have both on each hand I realise how different they are. Somehow I think there's a bit of the original one's DNA in l'Eau Bleue Fraîche. It must be the rosemary. I have to say I really like them both. The original one is more peppery and the rosemary seems stronger. I really enjoy it in the summer. The "fresh" one will also be perfect for the summer. I don't know how to explain but am I the only one to think it bears similarities with Penhaligon's Opus 1870? I just received my 125 ml bottle but already ordered a second one today, together with an original Eau Bleue. Could it be I'm in love?

this is one of the most beautiful summer scent i have ever smelled and have,Fresh, minty soft spicy ,delicate and some how deep..the only issue was longevity and projection, it required heat, believe me guys i was in Indonesia in 2012 and this was lasting on me like 9 hours plus, but as i returned to hungary it became weak, i thought my juice went wrong in the travelling therefore bought another bottle as i love the scent but same result so i kept it aside, but last year i went to Dubai and took this with me along side with 212 man and the results were phenomenal ... Too bad its discontinued.. but strickly for summer hot days , 30c - 36 c 7/10

Really like this one. I feel that it does have the same vibe as L'Eau Bleue. However, those that are expecting an exact dupe, but only lighter, will be disappointed. As a standalone, it does a great job as an alternative to citrusy summer scents. Similar to Lanvin's L'Homme Sport, it is light, and refreshing, but it achieves this via herbs instead of the normally expected bergamot, lemons or oranges... The rosemary is a nice touch the patchouli extends its utility into spring and fall. Goes to skin relatively quickly, but overspraying should solve this without knocking anyone out. longevity not bad actually.

Owning almost the whole collection of Issey-Miyake... This is one of the lighter versions and does not give the lasting impression that the original gives let alone the original Blue version. It last around 1-3hrs in a hot summer day. Any easily fades away within 5hrs. It's a Beautiful scent but easily blends in with many colognes of today. It doesn't standout or gets noticed easily unless someone is searching for it. The impact of the original is much more noticeable. On a scale of 1-10 this gets a 6 for me. I love the original Blue much more... ;-)

Standard office type scent here. It’s smart and intellectual, not necessarily sexy or especially different, but it’s pleasing to the nose that’s for sure. I think that these Issey Miyake scents are lovely, suited to gentlemen with manners and grace. At first this is rather sweet, zesty and herby, and it develops an almost sourness, but not a bad sourness, it retains its sweetness. Not really sure where the fraiche is coming from. Nice price and bottle design. For an affordable scent that’s great to wear on the daily I think this is a great option.

To me, this is mainly a patchouli scent, with only a touch of mint and rosemary. I do also have the non-fraiche version, bought the fraiche because I thought the original bordered on oppressive with the patchouli. This is toned down and more wearable, though it lacks the interesting breadiness that for some reason appears in the original. Like Mugler Ice*Men, this "summer frag" isn't as refreshing as purported, and is better worn outside of summer thanks to the patchouli. Fall and spring, maybe.

Absolutely beautiful. Says it is for men only but I feel it is completely unisex! It’s a delicious scent with just the right balance of fresh to musk. I just want to drink it up! Can’t keep from smelling my wrist! Most wonderful part for me is even though it has bergamot there is no harshness or sharpness to it that I am always so afraid of. This fragrance is delightfully smooth. A definite “ LOVE” from me. So glad I bought this scent! Total blind buy from TJMaxx for only $24! Crazy!!!

I like this better than the original. It's more transparent and fresh thanks mainly to the mint. The original had a very off-putting smell in the opening for me which this flanker doesn't have. The smell is very unique for a freshie. It's also quite modern and sophisticated. There really isn't anything else that smells like this on the market. Quite the performer as well for a fresh fragrance. Overall a solid frag if you're bored of your typical freshie. 8.5/10

This was my middle school scent, brings back so many memories (: Very inoffensive, citrusy and slightly powdery. Can be worn all year round, perfect for the younger crowd. It is a skin scent for sure. The only dislike I give to it is regarding longevity, 4-5 hours max on my skin. Would like to get another bottle just for the memories' sake, but I don't know if it's already unavailable.

A very aromatic, clean, fresh sort of scent. I am a woman and wear this one, to me it is very unisex. Each note really shows, from the rosemary to the bergamot, to the patchouli. I feel so classy when I wear this; I find it very sophisticated smelling on a woman (haven’t smelt it on a man yet).

I love the scent as a women's perfume. It is incredibly fresh (smells a bit like showergel...) and just the right balance between masculine and feminine. I want one for myself. I can imagine myself in the summer, spraying this all over me to get that lovely feeling of freshness.

Poof and gone! Didn’t even leave me enough time to analyze the dry down. Very unique scent. But everything is completely gone in about an hour and you are left with a very faint typical Issey Miyake scent. I might try layering to see if that will make it longer than 1 hour.

Fresh and clean, rather like cut grass, this safe summer scent sits close to the skin and could be unisex. Pleasant for casual daytime use, though nothing outstanding or too original. I may finish the bottle, but it's not that special, so I doubt I'll be buying it again.

My wife hates this cologne on me, but, I like it--light, refreshing, definitely not overpowering. The woody-musk combination is nice.

Same base DNA as Bleue D'issey, not nearly as strong or as smooth. The OG is one of the best natural smelling fresh fragrances in my collection, it's also one of my wife's favorites on me. This is like a watered down version of the original with a synthetic mint top note. Doesn't last more than an hour even with over spray, one of the very few IM frags I regret buying.

Lighter than the blue bottle. Still has the rosemary and the bergamot is definitely there. However, it is softer and is less rough than the blue bottle. Definitely a great scent for a chill warm day.

I love IM Bleue, so I was hoping this would be a slightly lighter more citrusy version of the original. I was wrong. Friache is very alcohol smelling and very nondescript. It almost smells like a chemical used for cleaning. One try and I was instantly disappointed. Maybe some may like the antiseptic vibe and I can see where some might find it clean and modern, but I do not recommend blind buying based on IM Bleue. I blind bought and gave it away. Pass. One of the worst offerings from the house of Issey.

Could be my Issey Miyake adventure ended here. I have the blue bottle of L`eau D`Issey Miyake Bleu Pour Homme and it is a very christmas pine tree citrussy smell. This L'Eau Bleue d'Issey Eau Fraiche smells like cat urine with a slight touch of pine tree. I have a lot of different Issey scents, and i very much like the Issey Miyake line and all the flankers, but this one is the least likable to me. Luckily it does not last long on me. Update - I have sold it.

This fragrance is absoulutly disgusting. i love the original and the summer editions but this has a wierd smell.As soon as you put it on there is just this off smell, it does fade but after about 2 hours it fades to absoulutly nothing.

its some thing nice and fresh, opening citrus , the only problem its didn't last long time i am wondering why , i bought it from eBay but i don't think that's the reason.

I'll start saying I'm a huge fan of every Miyake scent I've tried so far, not necessarily because I love them all but moreso, if you read their reviews, you'll notice people either love or despise them or don't really care, but nobody says "Wow that was pretty boring". Each is straight up art, off the cuff genius in its own way, for better or for worse. What disturbs me about some of these reviews, especially coming from a site dedicated to reviewing fragrances, are those which compare this to the original bleue and don't perceive obvious distinction in style. They are distinct takes on a common theme: fresh, herbal blue. The original is creamy, smooth, and heavily incensed, and lasts for almost as long as Intense on skin and for literally days/weeks on clothes. Fraiche takes a "daytime" approach to the theme compared to the original's crepuscular vibes: it is peppery fresh especially in the opening, citrusy and lively rather than smooth throughout. Try on skin: it has an unpleasant Suave shampoo, hairspray prickliness on paper which is greatly diluted by skin smells into a lovely herbal accord. If you had both on either wrists to directly compare you wouldn't mistake these for the same scent, but you would be able to see the genre similarities they share. If I asked two people to paint the same landscape without looking at each other's work, they'd end up with similar artistic distinctions as fraiche is to bleue. I agree with assessments that it has less "depth" than bleue, but that isn't a bad thing in this case because depth wouldn't fit with what I perceive this fragrance was intended for anyway. Hot summer days bring out the best in it. It's here for a good time, not a long time, so reapplication may be necessary in the earlier afternoon, it does not hang on clothing as far as I can tell, which isn't really bad either because that would only prolong the unfortunate burnt out standalone shampoo notes. The original bleue smells like strolling through an old growth pine forest, and is beautiful and serene. Fraiche is far more bacchant and fleeting, without straying from the theme of herbal blue. They are cousins at best!!! They do complement, and I think it's within the realm of possiblities you could wear fraiche during the day and transition to bleue in the evening; both are worthy purchases. Here and elsewhere, if you're smelling alcohol in the opening of a fragrance you're almost certainly smelling the vehicle which carries all scents to the skin (ethanol). It (supposedly) burns off rapidly, give it a wafting or two before going in for a smell!

This scent has intrigued me since the first time I smelled it at a perfume store. The saleswoman wanted to show me other fragrances (more interesting ones in her opinion) and sprayed L'Eau Bleau D'Issey Eau Fraiche in the air, looking absolutely bored. Well, I have to agree with her that it really seems to be a generic, repetitive and boring perfume... especially at a first glance. But, I use to see things more deeply and... what intrigued me most is the fact that my interest was born in the absence, because a blast of fresh and bitter bergamot was everything I could have and it disappeared in less than ten seconds without any apparent trace. No apparent trace? Well, it was exactly this missing trail that made me want to test the fragrance on my skin, so as to confirm its nonexistence. But then, on my skin, something else was revealed: a subtle composition, so clean and light that I questioned whether its presence existed only in my mind. The smiling aroma of rosemary mingled with the bitter freshness of bergamot, in a quick and slippery evolution that I had no time to perceive the mint. Floral notes tried to emerge and suddenly gave up the intention, perhaps due to some shyness in the face of patchouli's expressiveness. A clean, linear, creamy patchouli that owes its consistency and weight to the synthetic musk. Now, you must know that all this affluence was not observed easily. Do not try to understand this fragrance in winter, because it only fully reveals itself at higher temperatures, above 30°C, also being favored by high humidity. Only then I could be seduced by the captivating harmony between rosemary, patchouli and musk. It is beautiful, and I want this accord in a more intense and long lasting way! But, can I have it?
