L'eau d'Issey Eau de Parfum

Oh dear! Issey Miyake is a designer that started at givenchy! l`eau d` Issey (issey`s water, or an intended pun- Odissey~) is the original aquatic scent. this is popular not due it`s commercialisation! unlike other scents that started gaining popularity after being featured in movies, tv series or music videos this one gained its loyalty through quality and the attraction of the masses when they recognized a really good perfume. it`s good not because it`s niche, quirky or so pompous you can`t stand it! it`s not a pretentious scent, one that almost makes you say you hate it but you still wear it because it`s the vogue. no,no... l`eau has great longevity- 10 hours at least~ it also has good projection, a bit of a cold one, but doesn`t make the others in a room start to sneeze! it`s a medium projection which increases with the number of sprays,but i think it`s sufficient to spray once on the pulse points in order to get an idea of what the others will smell on you. issey miyake as a scent is very... japanese. I absolutely back off upon calling this one oriental. japan, as you may hav noticed, exceeded it`s traditional scene after being under US occupation. japan is pretty much a westernised country with a reality of its own and a love of famous brands such as gucci and LV. Imagine that Issey Miyake was very much attracted by the western culture and lived and worked in France.this scent dosen`t yell at you- hey, I`m oriental! that is just stupid and simplistic. or... to even compare ming shu with issey miyake! i mean, go on, but ming shu has nothing of the complexity attached to l`eau. it barely lasts, but yes, it tries to copy it, and it makes me smile! first of all, issey miyake is a very complex fragrance. it`s comprised of a LOT of ingredients~ watery and citrusy~ lotus, white lily, peony, rose, green tea, lime, and probabily algae. woodsy- wet sandalwood and musk seeds- which have the sweet, flowery and heavy fragrance of the musk but a bit on the drydown. a great alternative to the animal musk!!! and add something synthetic to it and voila! A scent that`s been envied by many. with these and probably a few dozens of other ingredients, l`eau is evolving in layers, each and every one with a strength of its own. created in 1992, L`eau through its bottle resembles a lighthouse, or who knows, maybe the ivory feminine shape itself- longiline and thin, not curvy. it`s sharpness and cleanliness - the aquatic aura- has been copied to an extent by many other brands. it just has something very desirable, but none other had realized enough to be remembered. this scent isn`t simple, though it`s not murky and difficult like others. it gives you tranquility and awareness. It balances very well the asian belief of detachment from the material world yet adds the sense of pragmatism common to the europeans. one is aware and intelligent without being less imaginative and dreamy! take a look at the designer`s creations. they all resemble towers in some way or another... maybe it`s an influence from the eiffel tower? as hated as it was, the eiffel tower has become a symbol of paris. oh my, but I`m rambling. this is by far the scent I like to keep among favorites. and I am happy it is so popular, still!

L'eau D'issey EdP Revisited: I wrote a review way back during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic when the UK was on lockdown, I only had this and the Summer 2017 flanker of L'eau D'issey to hand and when I first bought this, I used to think that this was identical near enough to the original 1992 EdT release. I recently decided to explore the EdT and suss out the differences between the two, so here is my more up to date review. L'eau D'issey EdP opens up with a fresh, dewy blast of freesia, except it feels less harsh, its less like being caught in a heavy summer rain storm with a bouquet of freeias and more like a fresh bunch of freesias covered in morning dew, it feels "clear" and fresh as opposed to loud, screachy and harsh. This "clear" feeling continues throughout the development, lily peaks out, but again, as with the freesia it doesn't feel harsh and abrasive, lotus is also ever present by this stage and adds a very serene, calm vibe and for the first couple of hours, that is how L'eau D'issey EdP smells; fresh, level-headed and calm. By the 3 hour mark, the freesia is less noticable to me and I can smell something that feels warm; ambrette. Ambrette, sandalwood and cedar ground this dewy bouquet and add some warmth and depth without feeling out of place and totally disrupting the mild aquatic notes which L'eau D'issey is famous for. The overall scent is warm, clear and fresh and makes me feel calm and like I "have it" together (even when I quite clearly don't and cannot stop flapping around!) As I said in my review for the EdT; picture that you're swimming during a heavy rain storm vs swimming during a warm, sunny day, the EdT is the former and this, EdP is the latter. The EdT is a sharp, refreshing but heavy downpour of fresh melon, ozone and floral notes where as the EdP is more calm, warm and rounded and has a lot more emphasis on the lotus, lily, lotus, ambrette and woods. I personally think that while you can totally wear this during the warmer months, I think it works equally as well in the cooler months as the woods give it some warmth yet it still feels fresh and clean. Longevity is fantastic with 8hrs of wear and a soft, yet noticable silage, totally office safe and versitile like its EdT sibling and also a timeless, refreshing classic that works well on everyone of all ages. Total love and an excellent wardrobe staple

A smoother, stripped down, more nuanced version of the original. I don't really smell the rose in the opening of this one which I find is one of the main, dominating flowers of the original version. This has a far headier opening and is overall less sharp, less citric-aquatic (now, don't get me wrong here - this is an aquatic floral, still) and comes off as a woodier to my nose, with a shift in the predominant focal floral heart range. I see a strong link here with my favorite version, the Noir Absolu. I think it comes from the osmanthus and more resinous, woody base, with the roses blooming well into in the dry down. The Noir variant is still the deeper of the two but this does share a strong similarity with that one for me. I love the Noir version but I only have a small bottle of it, meaning I must be very precious with it, whereas I have a big 75ml of this and a 7ml silver bullet purse spray to boot, so I needn't worry too much about using this one up. It's still in production, as far as I know. Less crystal clear waters in character and less fruity than the original edt. Denser, smoother, a different floral angle, more resinous. This and the Noir Absolu are great counterparts to the original and seem more appropriate for evening wear than the original too. I love that the l'eau issey scents are suitable for all year wear, not only in the heat. I love to wear mine on a muggy, humid, rainy day. Review is for the original formula of the eau de parfum. Current formula has a more green opening and is overall lighter and sweeter. However, besides this they're almost indiscernible. This is a scent that I crave. I cant put my finger on what I find so addictive, but I can't get enough.

I got a little decant of it and have worn it properly a few times and I love this!!! First of all I don't get rose at all and I love that for this perfume, I think it's a gorgeous floral and fruity?! I don't why but I get this peach vibe or something but it's something fruity, I guess it's the calone in it! This one also smells musky-aquatic-clean! it's so good, I think this is what ties all the notes together and delivers a gorgeous, sophisticated, fresh and clean perfume for everyday wear! Id really love to get a bottle for spring and summer! This is perfect for those moments when I just wanna smell bright and fresh, when I don't want to snell gourmand but I also don't want to smell like body spray!! So if you have those feeling to give it a try if u can! The delivery in terms of longevity and silage of this is not super powerful, it last on clothes more than 5 hours but on skin is less than that! Also the silage (like 6-8 sprays on) for the first couple hours is more like moderate but then it's more mellow which it's not necessarily a bad thing when you are looking forward using this for office/everyday wear! This is perfect for blind buys if you like the floral fruity vibe so go for it, also i think this could be a great grift for someone u know they fit the vibe or you have smelled them while wearing something like that!

I'eau D'issey is full of cold, really sub zero water with a lot of freesia and some cucumber/melon notes from the calone in it, its fresh, crisp and excellent for all year round wear in my opinion. I first smelt this when I bought the EdT for my mother as a Christmas present, I loved how fresh and clean it was, I then decided after purchasing the summer edition from 2017 to order the original L'eau D'issey, only, when it arrived I realised that I had purchased the EdP, not the EdT, but to my nose they both smell pretty much the same with the EdP seeming to last longer on my skin than the EdT. On me, Freesia and calone are the most noticeable notes in L'eau D'issey, I don't pick up on any of the other notes in this one, its very straightforward and simplistic on my skin which makes it very good for daily wear, I get that its a bit of a marmite perfume (like Angel), but I do think its also very appropriate for office wear because its just clean and not very offensive and for people that want to prolong that "out of the shower" sort of vibe. I do love this, but for some reason I kind of went off it but am now rediscovering exactly why I love this, may actually get the EdT when this one runs out though.

This perfume will always be in my collection. I typically do not have a favorite fragrance category (gourmands, florals, fresh, etc.). I just buy what I love and what lasts on my skin, which unfortunately isn't much. The first time I smelled this fragrance I was a young teen obsessed with the Twilight movie saga. I loved the cloudy scenes, the muted colors, and the overall calm vibe. I went to Ulta to buy a perfume and just wanted a bottle that would be aesthetically pleasing. I immediately picked up this sleek bottle and was so surprised when I smelled it. It makes me feel like I am in a lake in the woods with a ton of fog and humidity. Around the lake are beautiful white flowers by the wet rocks. This isn't an aquatic smell similar to acqua di gio or cool water. This one is so much richer and unique. It lasts on my clothes and hair until they are washed and the smell doesn't change throughout the day. It is a classy, white floral aquatic that can easily go from day to night. It is 1000x better than the EDT which is a little more basic. This one also is a compliment getter. I never met anyone who disliked it.

Revision. I think my newly purchase bottle of EDP spent too many hours in store lighting. It evaporates almost immediately, and dries down to a musk, yes musk oh so quickly. it is nothing like I remember from 20 years ago. This must have been reformulated, or I have a spoiled product? I cant believe how many sprays it took to satisfy myself and convince my nostrils I was actually wearing a fragrance. Disappointing to say the least. The fragrance was gone within an hour of application. Perhaps it's me? Maybe it's the bottle? I forked out 3 times what I would usually these day's as I have buried my ostentatious 80's with that decade, for this fragrance. Pity. I totally LOVE these kind of fragrances, Melony, ozonic scents have a special place in my mind and soul. There used to be nothing like it when it was introduced. Nothing until 'Escape' and 'Sunflowers' which incidentally are created by the same NOSE, hit the market. Which off course I have loved dearly too. I just may have fallen out of love with L'Eau Issey. SOB Sob.

Scent: this is the best and most classic floral aquatic. It smells like flowers in water, rich, full, wet. It's fresh, soft and definitely unique and recognizable. Unlike other aquatics, it's not cold and distant. This EdP is much better than the EdT in my opinion, although they smell quite similar. It just feels less dated, and not as overly complex as the EdT. I also prefer it to Pure, as it seems less linear, richer, warmer and more sensual. It's addictive. I am obsessed with this fragrance. 10/10 Who/where/when: this scent is great in spring/summer, but works really well in other seasons too. It's office-safe, if you don't spray too much. It reminds me of dewy flowers, lakes in forests and summer rains. It's happy, tranquil and uplifting. The person who wears this is elegant, modest, calm, sensual and pleasant to be around. Longevity: very good. Sillage: moderate to strong.

When I was a student I was buying knock-off decants of L'eau d'Issey EDT, it was by far my favorite perfume but I had no money to buy the original. Years and years later, every time I smelled it on anyone, I still loved it. It always brought back the good memories. Now, as a few decades have passed, I figured I was finally old enough to revisit it, so I finally decided to buy the full bottle. I was unsure if I should get EDT or EDP, but decided on the perfume and glad I did. It is surprisingly long lasting. And that magnificent feeling I had is still there. I wear it rarely, as my occasional feel good scent. I am not even sure I can smell it with my nose anymore as other associations are too powerful. But it's airy, gentle and clean, flowery but not too sweet. I love having it by my side.

It's funny- I don't remember this purfume being popular in the 90's. All I remember is CK One, The Body Shop's Fuzzy Peach and Gap's Grass! Of all things, it reminds me of my best friend's mother from my very early childhood, which was very much before this was released. Her room always smelled fresh and clean and floral, which is what this reminds me of. I've worn in for years and will keep doing so as it's a great daytime purfume that has never garnered a complaint from anyone to me. I prefer the purfume; I'm glad there's a dedicated page for it! The EDT mocks my love for the EDT in it's vauge similarity and ends in metallic, Freesia hell. At least for me. The EDT isn't a bad purfume when just sprayed, it's just not my preference on my skin. Long live the EDP!

I'm a florist, and happen to be picky about the floral scents that are easy ones to throw one, but this is magnificent for spring. Dew, clear and vibrant flowers, it smells like an idealized rainy day to me. Serene, like leaning against the window pane and watching your spring garden get watered. It's not realistic in that sense, more an artistic expression of cool, wet and flowery. On me it reads beautiful, and I layer it with Hyacinth by Demeter (which practically explodes everywhere when it comes spring time), and I'm set for whatever weather spring throws at me. It doesn't matter if it's raining, because I smell flowery and pleasant, and if it's hot and humid, I smell crisp. Not perfect for everyone, but perfect to me <3

I fell in love with the EDT. Read reviews about the EDP being more well-rounded and blind bought it to test it out. Verdict: The EDP is in fact, more well-rounded than the EDT. The opening is not as screechy with a little bit of spice on top of the aquatic florals. The mid- dry down is creamy and a little woody, which is so lovely. And the deep-dry down is clean. I am loving this one at the moment and am wearing it more often than I expected. Great white floral scent for cold weather too. Clean white floral scent that never leans heady or aldehydic. So simple and good. I love both the EDT and EDP (you don't need both since they're so similar), but currently am loving the EDP more than the EDT. 9.5/10

Very much like the edt edition but without my beloved lily of the Valley and melon note on the chart. My notes detects that it has a little more shapness or crisp to it than the original edt. I truly adore them both and wear them layered for stonger silage and projection. Smells clean, fresh and right out of the shower` ish. Feminine, soft and highly addictive. I have worn this seems like forever and will never get tired of it. A lot of love for l`eau d`Issey. Silage and longevity is really good for this one, Master of ozonics !

For the longest time I've been looking for a scent that was clean but no reminiscent of that 'clean' alcohol scent. This is what I wear when I want to be non offensive and have something simple. It's certainly not simple, the way it fades to a musky scent later on in the day. However, I find it something interesting and complex without being too busy with too many heavy notes. I've always been partial to aquatic perfumes, and this one is probably going to be a staple for me for the forceable future.

I absolutely LOVE this perfume. I understand its either a hit or miss with people, but for me its a win. It's definitely a unique scent, not generic at all. I actually think it's a staple scent that you can wear anytime or occasion. My first experience with this was back in 2004. My cousin who is very beautiful, trendy, popular came over & she had a bottle of this. I smelled it & instantly fell in love. I do associate this smell with her, which is weird, but she's the one who introduced me to it.

I love this, it was such a fortunate blind buy. I got it in late spring, but it smells best in summer when it's warmer. Great sillage in the first hour and surprising longevity for the notes. It's aquatic, musky (the osmanthus or ambrette probably), floral. Smells like a lotus pond with the flowers and the slight mustiness of the water, but in a good way. It doesn't smell like lily or fruity at all to me, I was surprised when I read the other comments.

stole a rollerball of this scent from the mall when I was a young teenager. I think I wanted to smell adult and I decided this was the most mature scent available. lost the perfume for years and found it this week. it aged beautifully. I disagree with the notion that this is a daytime scent. it's delicacy and sultry woody notes make me feel like a lily illuminated by moonlight. drives lover insane. too expensive so I use it sparingly.

I managed to score a 50 mill bottle Eau De Parfum with body wash and lotion for 65. Aus Dollaroozies. I have always had a Issey Miyake in my coiffret. Always ask friends who travel to get me a bottle. I love it. Obviously I'm a melon. Melon lover that is. I note the same nose also created Escape and Sunflowers which I also have. This scent in my view or schnooz that is. Is unique. Love the way it smells on me. Viva la Issey.

I bought this several years ago after reading positive reviews. I wasn’t disappointed. It’s like lemonade and spring water , fizzy sweets and sunshine topped with rose petals and Lilly of the valley, mixed in a bottle by fairies at the bottom of the garden. It’s such a happy fragrance. Very distinctive, I can always smell it on people and it just makes me smile. Sweet and remains. A fragrance to wear in summer.

It's a bit weird but I can tolerate this better than the edt-version. The edt would be lovely, but it makes me nauseous and headache. It's too sickly fresh. Even with just 1 spray.. unfortunately 🥲 But this is more tolerable. Fresh scent, but not sickly. But of course you have to be careful how you dose It 😅 Less is more with these. But overall it's a lovely fresh scent, reminds me of water and summer 🥰

This one is a classic. No matter the year/season/occasion, I need to have a backup of this one at all times. My no.1 perfume. You know that special perfume who is the only one you can give a perfect score of 10/10? Well, this is my 10/10. Thank you Issey Miyake for this masterpiece scent who manages to lift me up whenever I need it.

refreshing in a glamorous way!! yes, it's aquatic, watery, fresh, etc... whatever u call it, but it has layers of very uplifting notes that make me happy, ever-changing & sometimes overlapping flowery notes, citrusy notes & even some fruits like melons -maybe, it's a must-have and lasts long enough to enjoy it

A little goes a long way and gets compliments from anyone who can smell it. It is a discreet feminine scent that can be worn in any occasion. The scent does not change even if u sweat a lot and it clings beautifully on my skin even after a bath. A timeless classic for a modern, classy, confident woman.

My absolute favorite.. such a gorgeous smell.. there's nothing to match this one.. a MUST HAVE.. i just finished my bottle and will order another one soon.. the perfume i have 'repeat bought' the maximum number of times!!!! smells so fresh it instantly uplifts your mood!!!

i used to wear the edt for many yeas.never smelled the edp.now that has come to my possesion ill have to say that i find it more refined from the edt.to my nose it has some woody aspects i found quite sexy.the longevity is better.equally beautiful scents .

I got this one as a gift and I loved it since day one. It was my first perfume and it took me a long time to understand what it was all about. A lot of people around me don't appreciate it, but then a lot of people don't know much about perfumes :P

a top ten favourite of mine i just feel at ease with this. my perfect chemistry. so many i dont suit, this is incredible. im so glad to have it. watery, deep, fresh, rounded, floating in a clean deep pond with dark green flora around

This is my signature scent since it was launched. It's a beautiful fragrance, more mellow and rounded than EDT. Fresh, flowery, clean, and glorious, but has this hint of warmth underneath that I just can't get enough of.

It is lovely floral aquatic scent. It is much better and feminine than very neutral and unisex smelling - D&G Light Blue. I'm on my third bottle now. It is one of those scents that I need to have in my collection.

I absolutely love this scent: a beautiful, aquatic, delicate floral where the lily really shines. Interestingly, I cannot stand the EDT - it has a sour, artificial note on my skin - but the EDP is divine.

This has been my Spring scent since its debut. LOVE it. It fits all ages. Light, fresh and feminine. The water notes are refreshing like a cool spring, not salty and heavy.

Clean melon/cucumber with some fresh florals. Not what I expected but it's not bad! I like the clean aspect of it and I'll use it in summer.

Delightfully feminine, with a pleasant sillage and great staying power. Not a boring floral. Will buy again when my bottle is over.

ok when i first sprayed it the first thing i thought was urine. like.... i don't want to put anybody off but that was what i THOUGHT. but then the the white florals started coming out. i dont know why but white florals and roses smell very similar to me so when i say white florals i could be meaning roses too. it's a good scent, i like it. kind of smells like what you would imagine spring to smell like. fresh. kind of wet grassy. i'd wear it day or night. mostly day though. in a park. kind of smells like a bush of flowers next to fresh cut grass. love it!! kinda soapy too.

Overall, on me this is a very, very fresh floral. The smell is not terribly unique except in that the freshness actually lasts through the dry down and beyond. With my skin chemistry, that is pretty special. I love fresh scents but they have a tendency to go awry and I often end up with something I hate, like strong mint or celery. This is true to the notes above from minute one to hours later. I highly recommend this for people who are looking for that fresh cut flowers kind of scent. It's worth a sample, and if you like it, you can always find the bottles on sale.

One of my favourite scents- so wet, so fresh - reminds me of a lush garden after a good rain drenching, wet sandalwood and lilies galore, but somehow a very cool (as in cold, not Chloe Sevigny) scent, unique in its formulation, beautiful... Had to edit this today after reading so many bad reviews of Issey - why oh why are there so many haters of the Issey?! I really don't get it - it seems that this one reacts really badly with an awful lot of people's skin chemistries. Interesting but will never put me off. Lilies and rain, bottled, is my idea of heaven...

Very fresh-aquatic and predominately strong florals. I really don't get too much of the base notes of wood and such in it. You have to enjoy lotus and lily notes for this one to work for you because those are mostly what you're going to get. It's a good summer day scent but it does project so a light spray in high heat would be good enough. This would work well for day outings, weddings and things like that. It comes off as feminine and sophisticated, but still quite strong and vibrant. It doesn't feel light or delicate to me.

This is a top fragrance in aquatic fragrances. I don't know this one and the other one's from this line well enough, to say what's the difference between the EDP and EDT version. They are quite similar in my opinion. I sense fresh, light floral scent and nothing else from it. Lotus and lily are the most dominant notes. It reminds me of pure, cold water. Very natural smelling. Could easily be a signature scent. I think it's made for a modest and elegant woman. I have to keep it in mind for later life.

I like this one. I had completely forgotten about it maybe because it belongs to a category of fragrances which I am not particularly fond of. I am not surprised that it is considered a classic, because it does definitely have something very special from my viewpoint. It is very distinctive, never smelled any other fragrance which strongly resembles this one. It has a bitter creamy twist which I find disturbing and even addictive. Great fragrance from my viewpoint..

As soon as spring breaks I reach for this perfume. It’s so fresh, so beautiful, so clean and so very classy! It’s a beautiful spring/summer scent. The lotus flower definitely dominates but as the fragrance wears I can definitely smell lily, carnation and cedar giving it depth and character. I don’t get any musk in this fragrance. It’s very, very aquatic. Perfect bridal scent. It’s innocence and femininity in liquid form.

Soothing and fully-grown. Inoffensive and somewhat discreet...although if someone were to give you a hug or stand close, they’d definitely smell you and compliment you as well. A more subdued version compared to the EDT. I enjoy both...but the EDT was for when I was 25...the EDP is for me now as a mid-40 year old.

Floral with aquatic quality and overall clean. It reminds me of Laila in structure. There's an after-sweetness that reminds me of bubblegum, melon, or dragonfruit. The perfume makes me think of a garden in a botanical research center and I would love to sample this in person rather than from a magazine sample.

I have a weird relationship with this fragrance. I generally love the freshness at first spray- like love. Then after about 20 minutes it starts aggravating me and I feel like I'm wearing L'eau d'Febreeze. I prefer my fresh fragrances to bloom or trail into something warmer and this one just doesn't.

Much better than the EDT IMO. It's much lighter on the rose and is heavier on the freesia. It's also greener. Much more me. It seems a bit crazy to own both the EDP and the EDT as they are so similar, but you'll really notice the difference if you don't love rose forward scents.

This smells like the peony range from Mrs. Myers to me - not at all a bad thing - but so similar. Unapologetically floral and fresh after the initial, slightly sharp blast. I could see how this isn't everyone's cup of tea, but I quite like it. The bottle's neat too.
