L'Eau d'Issey pour Homme Shade of Lagoon

Fifty Shades of Watery Amber The encounter with L'Eau d'Issey for Homme - Shade of Lagoon was bizarre, sudden, unexpected, unplanned. I presume I saw it last year when it made its first appearance on the store's shelves but did not pay the right attention it deserved. Yet, the previous day I was making my usual jaunt to perfumery, and on the rack of the tenders, there was this 100ml pack, alone, at the ridiculous price of 38 euros instead of 59, nearly 20 bucks less. I did a quick google search, I liked the notes, the price was more than a bargain, and since I'm fond of l' Eau d'Issey original I said "why not?", bought it sight unseen and not disappointed. I've tested it last night for an intimate house dinner, and even today. Well, the more I rock it, the more I appreciate it. It is a lovely little diamond that manages to smell unique while keeping the DNA of the original, with a fair dose of ambroxan to keep up with today's popular colognes, in other words, a well-made flanker. So, if you like the original, you will like this. First of all, Shade of Lagoon is one of the four types of a series of limited "Shade of Paradises" fragrances. These scents express the history and experiences of two artists who visited the paradise of Okinawa, the island of Zamami, namely the perfumer Aurélien Guichard and the colour designer Mai Hua. About the cologne, just splash on my skin the aroma unquestionably evokes the original, the citrus, spicy, and resinous notes are very similar. Here I feel the bittersweetness of the yellow grapefruit peel, mixed with the signs of the exotic lime, and the spicy accents of the green cardamom. The zesty notes, however, are not just too strong as the yuzu in the original, and so does the spicy that is not so enduring as the nutmeg. A whisper of cypress of middle notes lingers already in the opening like a beautiful blowing wind, and this makes it a bit closer to the founder of the 90. Where did the icy explosion of ginger go? Um, it looks like I can't detect any ginger, maybe it's drowned in the tart citrus oils. As some of the more volatile aromatics burn off, Shade of Lagoon shifts into a different direction, and the more the cologne moves to the heart the more it becomes mysterious and bewitching, full of aromatic, floral, woody, and marine accord. Crisp green galbanum stands out in all its chyprè glory, its bitter and aromatic tones are loud, and the cypress now expresses itself in all its balsamic and resinous facets. There is a bit of floral geranium in pink, green, and lemon yellow shades, which blends with a marine accord, a sort of breeze coming from the seawater. Luckily, the sea accord in here is really reminiscent of something maritime, oceanic and mineral, and not all too cucumbery or melony. When the dry down comes, it is fruitful of ambroxan and aquatic notes, a bit salty. There is a lot of ambroxan here, imagine an aquatic take of Dior Sauvage or even better the Bvlgari Aqua Atlantic flanker, here the artificial ambergris molecule has a more marine touch and not just too sweet. It is a clear, less sophisticated version, but uses warmth ambroxan as tastefully as I have ever smelled it in a fragrance, it is fresh and natural, there is no chemical ambroxan vibe here. The base notes pursue evoking the ocean's power, this time with the refined redolences of vetiver and cedar. Fairly, the white musk is just a brittle whisper that remains in the background, overshaded by the ambroxan that emphasizes the power more and more. At last, to me, it is a refreshing woody citrus summer fragrance, casual for dress down, suitable for warm weather and good for the office as well as leisure weekend, daytime and evenings out. Projection is pretty moderate, longevity is average, which is adequate for a summery cologne. I don't think there is much more to say, Shade of Lagoon is non-redundant cologne if you already own Issey Miyake l'Eau d'Issey or any of its flankers, though, I am convinced I've already smelt something similar that I am not able to guess.

Forget the convoluted name of this one- it is really an updated reworking of the original L'Eau D'Issey PH. The scent DNA is remarkably similar the "fragrance that launched a thousand flankers", so if you enjoy the original, this will appeal to you. The bottle (which is quite visually appealing) is transparent just like the new scent. It is a clear, less complex version, but uses ambroxan as tastefully as I have ever smelled it in a fragrance. It never dominates and remains as supporting character. I usually hate this note, but not here. Good work Issey! Shade of Lagoon is a true summer fragrance. It is ultra fresh and lasts about as long as you'd expect a summer freshie to last. If you are in search of a modern summer citrus fresh scent, this is an excellent candidate. It is very pleasant but not generic or boring.

I have to start by saying I really enjoy this. For me, it's the best Issey Miyake Summer fragrance for several years. You could argue they've jumped on the ambroxan bandwagon, and to some degree they have, but it isn't a loud note, don't expect Sauvage, instead this is a fresh aquatic, citrus juice, which manages to smell fresh and natural. There is no chemical ambroxan vibe here. It is definitely a summer fragrance, but I'll wear this in spring also, projection was pretty good, longevity was excellent. The bottle is really nice, but what's most impressive is that they've managed to blend a fragrance that has the original DNA, but make it relevant for the current trend. When the ambroxan phase burns out, which one day it will, this one will still have a purpose.

Amazing scent, blind bought and not disappointed. Has the original pour homme DNA with a more modern fresh twist. 100% recommend and certainly reasonable price. At first it reminded me of Original Vetiver by creed and also has a Davidoff Cool Water vibe in the background. Refreshing scent and perfect for summer.

One of the most underrated recent releases - a fresher take on the original Issey Miyake and great summer scent, if you liked the original then you will like this. Issey Miyake have released some absolute winners in recent years yet the all seem to fall under the radar

checked this out today at the mall .. very pleasant and nice, youthful daytime scent .. definitely for the summer time .. i will forsure buy this

Just gave it a go today - full wearing. Really impressed with the simplicity and transparency. It basically smells like a more hollow, less spicy and slightly more citrus version of the original L'eau D'Issey Pour Homme Sport. Might as well call it LDPH Sport Summer. It's like they took all the dirty components out of that one and made it fresher and less complicated. Fortunately for me, LDPH Sport is one of my all-time favourite designer scents, so for me it's a total winner, despite the mediocre performance. Didn't end up buying a bottle though - because it would definitely be redundant; but for someone just looking to get into the LDPH line, this is easily the one I would recommend starting with - even above Fraiche, which is a super zingy, boiled down and beastly performing version of the original LDPH. Looks like flankers of flankers are really starting to trickle down the grape vine...

Almost the same scent as L’Eau d’Issey Pour Homme Sport. But this one is more citrus heavy and has no leather or nutmeg which is basically what makes the sport version a little denser and thicker. Neither one of them have good staying power but the sport version last a bit longer, on my skin. You can wear L’Eau d’Issey Pour Homme Sport year round imo, but Shade of Lagoon is a warm weather scent. Both are really good and gives you the fresh-out-of-the-shower feeling. Price is also very good for what you get.

This a nice little freshie that manages to smell unique while keeping the DNA of the original, in other words, a well made flanker.... Really enjoy this one. Great for a hot summer's day. Florals aren't as heavy as in the original and they've added ambroxan. The ambroxan, especially, is nicely done. It accents the other notes vice taking over the scent. Kudos... Longevity for me not ideal however.

What a letdown this turned out to be. Nothing more than(to my nose) a combination of Original L'eau D'issey and L'eau D'issey Oceanic Expedition with VERY poor performance. 10 sprays and it was still fairly faint and became a skin scent in under an hour. Thankfully this was rather cheap buy

This is summer all over, the signature L’eau d’issay ph scent on summer tour. Lots of citrus and aqua. If only its lasts longer... im normally a sparingly sprayer like 3 sprays but from this one I need 6, but hey, it isn’t expensive

An Issey Miyake no doubt. It's been 15 years since I've last smelled the OG Pour Homme and this kind of takes me back in time. In all honesty I can't tell the notes apart as usual ... I just smell ... Issey Miyake.

Not sure if my bottle is badly kept or just bad batch (unlikely IMHO) but I don't get any citrus / cool / fresh feeling out of it at all. What I get is total ambroxan watery blast through your face that linger with you for quite a while. This reminds me more of Versace Pour Homme than anything.

This one doesn't work on my skin. I just get a dirty, musky and slightly salty weak citrus scent. Have tested twice and the 2nd time I applied straight out of a shower - still the same effect. What a shame - oh well at least it wasn't expensive and I can flip it for not much of a loss.

This is almost identical to Calvin Klein Eternity Air, but a bit more potent, a bit more linear, and more than a bit more abrasive - at least at the opening. The main notes I pick up are that slightly sour/bitter grapefruit/cypress combination from CKEA, rounded out with a generic "salty aquatic" accord and screechy ambroxan. It's fairly linear, though that sour/bitter/ambroxan punch in the nose opening does quiet down considerably in the first hour, leaving behind a more balanced citrus aquatic in its wake. If you can get past the opening, it's not half bad - but also not something that stands out. Sillage is above average for an aquatic type, owing to the ambroxan. Longevity is also better than average for the type - I'd say average overall. Again, it's not bad, mind you. It's just not the best version of any of its facets. There are better presentations of the "sea note," citrus accords and ambroxan, and the combination presented in SOL just strikes me as alternatingly coarse and average. It's fresh and summer-appropriate, but nothing that hasn't been done before - and better. Bottom line, it's not something anyone with more than 4-5 options would think to reach for regularly. Issey Miyake has put some really nice fragrances out there at very accessible price points - especially their "darker" lines. I just don't get the never ending proliferation of pedestrian "me too-ism" that has long plagued the L'eau line.

Somewhat generic citrus opening; very transparent, slightly fizzy and tart, but nowhere near as sour as the original L'Eau d'Issey. A little bit heavy on the dihydromyrcenol, giving it a metallic and slightly abrasive texture. After about 15 minutes, slightly salty aquatic notes move to the forefront, shifting it into citric-aquatic territory. This phase lasts around an hour or so, and the watery notes burn off to reveal a dry mineralic ambroxan base with a very light touch of peppery woody notes. Projection is slightly below average - but you do get whiffs of salty ambroxan from time to time as you move around.

Shade of Lagoon could easily be a more modern, up-to-date version of the classic L'Eau d'Issey but fails due to poor longevity. It screams Summer from every pore ,the only way it could offend someone would be to apply it directly to the eye. Being a fan of L'Eau d'Issey it's frustrating to see how such a good perfume comes with almost zero sillage.

Fresh natural smelling fragrance... if you are digging for those types of cypress and citrus combos then this fragrance is absolutely for you...about performance I can say below good but cannot say bad... I have a lot Reviewes on my YouTube channel: Mehdi Scent

An ambroxan water bomb! You are hit with a blast of ambroxan while keeping the citruses and the marine accords. For the young and active guy! It reminds me of an aquatic version of Dior Sauvage, replacing the yuzu with the bergamot.

This smells like they teamed up with the folks at Raid to create this. This smells like raid bug spray!!! I swear... It doesn't give off any fragrance vibes to my nose... It smells like you're trying to kill bugs 🐜🦗🐞

I found this to not work . What a disappointment. What a mind field fragrance has become ,it is so hit and miss . This one is nice but a miss . Yes it is cheep , I guess that's why .

Simply a relaunch of last summer's Melon, different bottle and label. Still love it
