L'Eau d'Issey Shade of Sunrise

Scent: think summer and beaches: luxurious and gorgeous creams, body oils and sunscreens. However, this fragrance is not your standard summer scent. It reminds me of a sunscreen oil, which was popular among my friends for its unique, but very summery, scent. The coconut and white flowers turn this into a very happy, sunny fragrance. It is creamy, clean, smooth and soft, a bit sweet and a bit woody. Don't expect too much of it, but it works great as a summer scent. 8/10 Who/where/when: this is the perfect summertime fragrance. It's a wonderfully soft scent, but still addictive and seductive. This could be an everyday spring/summer fragrance, but this could also be a special holiday scent. The person who's wearing this is drinking a cocktail on a beach in a sunny, tropical place. Longevity: moderate. Sillage: quickly turns into a very soft skin scent.

If you combined Soleil Blanc and Beach walk but amped up the jasmine and citrus. This scent has a bit more of an edge to it. I much prefer this because its better balanced, more interesting and slightly soapier Imagine youre staying at a luxurious tropical island resort, its lush and surrounded by nature, you take a shower and use the expensive soaps they provide. You then lay on the crisp white bed while the warm night breeze comes through the balcony and caresses your skin. Thats the vibe it gives and I'm so upset this is discontinued, I need to find a dupe.

Fragrance that evokes luminous tropical atmospheres, clear skies surrounded by the bewitching scents of exotic nature in the early hours of the day; barely illuminated by the first rays of the sun, which reveal magnificent scenery. The opening notes are: lively, citrusy, immersed in a lush riot of frangipani and Ylang Ylang of rare beauty. Fresh, reassuring and lactonic fragrance due to the presence of coconut in agreement with sandalwood and cedar wood which make it enveloping and very sensual.

LOVE this fragrance so much! Definitely a dupe for one of my favorite SUN DiGioia by Giorgio Armani. The frangipani mixed with coconut is what I love about this, not to mention the strong sunscreen scent. Highly recommend this for the summer for sure! Oh and the price is very reasonable too.

Shade of Sunrise is a near perfect representation of the fragrance of the frangipani flower. Nothing synthetic or artificial about it. Summer, seaside, surf, sand, light breeze, blue sky. Moderate strength, not too heavy, it lasts rather well for me.

I've been waiting to buy this fragrance for a long time. I was tempted and finally I saw a great deal and bought it second-hand for 10$. I fell in love with the "Beach Walk" perfume and wanted to find something similar and affordable. Did I find what I was look for? Hell yeah. The Issey Miyake's "Shade of Sunrise" shares the same core: prominent ylang-ylang and coconut smell. It smells elegant and light, just what I needed. The beginning of the fragrance is, in fact, different. While the Maison Margiela's "Beach Walk" is a linear scent, the "Shade of Sunrise" changes over time. At first, there's a bergamot that sticks in your nose. It's not utterly unpleasant, but it gives an uncomfortable feeling. Fortunately, it wears off in 5 minutes and the core sets in. The longevity is much stronger that of its rival. It lasts around 5-6 hours on my skin and a bit more on clothes. The projection is also larger, but I must say that it becomes a skin scent relatively fast. Plus, it is definitely on a sweet side. Was I glad I made this purchase? Surely! Will I buy it again, If I have a chance? No. I got tired of the core of this scent and I'd like to explore more options. I wouldn't dare to pay $50+ for this fragrance. The "Beach Walk" is overpriced as well, actually. If you ever have a chance to wear this perfume, give it a try.

About two weeks ago I made a blind buy of this when a bottle suddenly appeared at a local department store. Trusting the reviews here, I excitedly opened the package at home and sprayed and thought, nope, not me. Is that a melon note? And then I realized there is a strong salt note not listed at all. Once a short drydown occurred, I realized something about it reminded me of my high school senior trip to the beach, specifically. In my mind I saw the Atlantic Ocean, and smelled everything surrounding me: my fellow graduates, the sunscreen, the tanning oils, the salt, the water, the perfume, the cocktails, all in a melange and swirling around me in my state of highness and reverie. At that moment I decided I am going to keep it and remember that innocent, completely free and happy time. And so, even though the scent is not "me" now, it was my life then and it is worth keeping that memory alive.

Shade of Sunrise has shades of all the fragrances listed in the "this reminds me" section, so it's not something unique to the tropical beach scent genre. But even though it is not much different than other tropical scents, it is still very pretty. This isn't a fresh scent. The citrus notes listed here are completely MIA on my skin. Because of that lack, it comes across as very rich with its buttery florals, creamy, milky coconut, and aquatic notes. I also don't find this scent very sweet at all, which if it were a little sweeter would have been perfect for me. Still, it has a very beachy feel, and if I close my eyes can almost see the waves splashing the shore. That's something I desperately needed today with our negative temps here. For what it is, I think it's great and I am looking forward to using it a lot more when the weather warms up.

I should pay attention to the main accords before blind buying! Nevertheless this is a gorgeous perfume. The florals and the dry woods are combined to create a sort of cosmetic powder scent (in like the best way possible) but then coconut and ylang peek through for that creamy summer floral vibe. I think it's a bit mature for me (21 y/o) because of the powderiness, but still really lovely. Agree with the comparison to Beach Walk, somewhat to Hibiscus Palm (that one is heavier on coconut milk and ylang, which I think I actually prefer), less to Terracotta (that's like a wet, velvety Super Jasminey white floral), and less to Soleil Blanc (this lacks the spice that makes SB what it is). I kind of want to try the 2022 L'Eau d'Issey Summer Edition, but if I'm not crazy about this I'm not sure I'll love that.

New to me and arrived at the end of summer. Given the restrictions we still have in place (mask wearing is a buzz kill when it’s so hot and sunny) it’s given me a sense of freedom and lightness that is sadly lacking in a pandemic. Light and airy with a base of the classic L’Eau D’Issey we know and love (lightly aquatic) underpinning a veil of golden flowers and sunshine. Starts of with floral punch and a gorgeous to my nose spicy bouquet...the frangipani comes forward with touches of honey and lightly ripened banana. I’m liking it more and more. The florals gradually draw back and leave a soft gauzy feel with the creamy, spicy and lightly musky base. It will become a love I’m sure.

This smells lovely and pretty strong for an EdT. It's also creamy, sweet, and a bit sharp on my skin. I luckily don't get the salty vibe some others talked about because I really dislike salty perfumes. That said, it is pretty feminine and quite pungent on me, enough, in fact, to trigger my sinus and sneezing. What a shame. If it did't cause me to sneeze, I'd have gotten a full bottle and would've liked it more. Edit: I got to try the 2022's Kevin Lucbert edition and that one is a better version of this, in my opinion. I don't sneeze at all when using that one and the frangipani is also there.

Sweet, sunny and soapy jasmine. Really pleasant and uplifting. Projects well in the first 30 minutes or so, later turns into a skin scent. At this stage it is mostly a soft coconut with jasmine and a very subtle powder. It is a very nice fragrance for summer and the price is really good. I can recommend it to anyone,but the opening may be a bit too sweet for some. Longevity is moderate. Final note 7/10

Lovely sunny fragrance, gentle fresh citrus and flowers. Reminds me alot of Dolce Shine, which is a bit stronger but just as fleeting. For a loosely similar perfume that is stronger and lasts long, Sun di Gioia is good. I shall keep my bottle, but it will get used at home where I can re-spray every 20mins!

This is such a lovely warm weather fragrance! The tropical Florals in this beauty really shine. I normally love fresh citrus scents in warmer weather, but this is a great change of pace for me. And I love ylang ylang!

A very clean and soapy, soft scent that is surprisingly different from other summer fragrances. Or as my friend described it: "It smells like an expensive face cream in a luxury hotel."

so....coconut is a thing again in 2019?

On my skin it's smell similar to Jean Paul Gaultier Betty Boop. I do not smell coconut at all. On my it's more spicy like ginger. Indeed there is Ylang Ylang ans rose. To me it's not beachy or summer. But it's smell nice.

Very floral, happy, simple and summery without smelling like sunscreen! An interesting choice.

So disappointed. This was a blind blind that I regret. Not a good scent for me at all. What a waste of $25.

I was on a quest last summer to find a perfect coconut beach scent and this one was a let down and off it went to Mecari. Take a look see at the Coqui Coqui website for a tropical fragrance. I like Vancopam & Fleurs des Iles. The bottles need to age for a richer scent experience.

Beautiful, absolutely my kind of summer fragrance! But it’s been done before. To my nose Frangipani, heliotrope and ylang ylang, are the prominent florals. Very similar to maison Margiela beach walk. What’s so alluring about the two compositions is the “sneaker coconut” that takes the stage after the sandy florals step out of the spot light. That creamy lactonic edge that makes you smell like you’re 2 inches deep in banana boat tanning oil. I envision wearing a flowy dress on a beach. There is surf in the air, making my hair gather in curls. Feet suctioning to the beach as I walk down the strip of wet sand. The sunset is so bright, the reflection off the water is nearly impossible to look at, you are forced to soley appreciate the orange glow cast on the beach. The sensation of all of those descriptors is this fragrance. It might be over done, but it was beautiful the first time, and every time there after

This Fragrance is absolutely fantastic. Sure enough it smells just like a sunrise would look. Its warm, its creamy, sort of has a sunscreen lotion vibe to it, reminds me of the summer sun at the beach just like the photo on the packaging. Its peaceful quiet and relaxing...not something I would wear to an amusement park or anywhere like that..I love love love this masterpiece. Smells expensive and an easy signature scent for the warmer months. I don't pick up any citrus notes at all but trust me this isn't lacking. Issey Miyake is underrated and has some of the best fragrances in my opinion. I cannot live without this and A Drop D'Issey.

On my skin, sadly the coconut + sandalwood combo is unpleasant and strange, to say the least. Reminds me of coconut rice. It doesn't smell like any other coconut-tiare-beachy vibe scent I've sampled. It certainly is coconutty and creamy and floral and slightly sweet, but it's veering towards the scrubber category for me.

the drydown is exactly what i wanted: creamy, slightly coconut inflected with slightly sweet florals. however, the yellow florals and something citric in the opening are so screechy and headache inducing that it just wasn't worth it for me. i don't wear perfume to feel uncomfortable. i had to give it away.

It was a blind buy and for me, no successful one. To me, it smells like a tan lotion with hint of hair spray. I really miss some freshness that I need in summer scents. The silage is not good, disappear quite quickly. Unfortunately nothing for me, hope I will find someone who likes it to give away.

This is the cheaper version of TF Eau de soleil blanc. The sunlotion smell is less sophisticated, the flowers smell a bit less elegant. But who cares, I got a bottle of 90ml for €25, and 30ml of TF would cost me €80,=. And as a bonus, sillage and longevity are a bit better for Issey.

This s more of an Americanized beach scent -its nice in that regard. The fragrance scent is along the same lines as Beach walk by MMM, Jones Beach by Bond No. 9, Coco Vanille by Mancera & the like. The problem it its longevity or rather lack thereof.

i like this type of beachy white floral fragrance. not unique but nice and on me lasting at least lasting enough for a summer fragrance

Smells closer to Jovan Island gardenia than beach walk to me. More florals and less coconut.
