L'Eau d'Issey Solar Violet

ok all violet & iris lovers u must add this scent to ur collection :) its a beautiful soft & sultry scent........very smooth & dreamy like........it may not have a lot of notes but the few that it has work together like a dream.........for being so soft the longevity is fairly good - it lasted a good 4 hours on me (on my skin ) - on clothes longer.......its not offensive in any way - i would say it would work in any place or situation...this is a winner for me :) also on me i get violet & iris.........i dont get pear but come to think about it i never get the pear scent in any of my perfumes lol

I just bought it for office wear and was not disappointed. Well, I know it's not unique, but it's a delightful and feminine scent that doesn't irritate anybody. I hear rose notes, as if they were put in the water, and I even checked the package several times to see whether I mixed the bottle or picked the right one. It's Miyake's signature, the scent of the garden full of spring flowers and slightly noticeable pears.

I had a strong hunch, based on the notes and accords, that I would enjoy this and I certainly do. I tried it this morning and it was an immediate strong like. Finally a new L'eau d'Issey flanker that I like, after Magnolia and Pivoine were fails for me. That said, I do feel that this flanker is the most removed from the OG to the extent that I can't really see what the two have in common. Solar Violet has little of the aquatic freshness of the original L'eau D'Issey. However, judged it by its own merits, rather than as a flanker of the OG, I find it very pleasing, with just the right dose of sweetness and powderiness for my taste. Kind of reminds me of a recent purchase of mine - Laura Tender - that also has pear and violet as prominent notes, and also somewhat of Daisy. I think that at some point in my perfume journey I must have become a violet lover now that I think about it... Not sure about longevity and projection on this one. From my initial test this morning I think that 'intense' is kind of a misnomer. In any event I am going to wait before purchasing in the hope that the price will soon go down (as it usually does on these flankers) and I will test it at least one more time in the interim. Update 5/24 - this came out in a travel spray so I've purchased that. At this point I highly doubt I will progress to a full bottle. With the size of my collection, I'm very reluctant to acquire full bottles of anything and this- although a very nice scent - is not nearly enough of a stand out to justify a larger bottle.

I bought this yesterday. It's perfect for spring, and maybe summer. I got a blast of pear when I first opened the box but I can't smell it anymore. The iris is very prominent. The violets are less prominent, it kinda gets mixed with the iris but it might take some weeks before it fully develops. It definitely has that Issey Miyake profile once it dries down, totally reminds me of "a drop fraiche" which I used last summer. Update: so I've had the fragrance for a week now. It feels kinda light right now and truly smells like just a more floral version of "a drop fraiche".

I find the pear note makes this too sweet. I wish it had some light wood and a green note to balance it out. I blind bought it thinking the violet and iris would bring a sharper, green note, but it smells more like sweet pear, Issey Miyake's signature watery notes and indistinct (but not horrible) floral. I still love the signature Issey watery vibe in this, and have been enjoying layering it with Diptyque Philosykos to mimic what I was expecting. The combo is really refreshing for spring. :-)

It's nice. It's likable. I was like meh when I first tired it, but I gave it a second chance and this time I thought to myself I need to write a review about it. lol The dry down remidns me a lot of Hibiscus Mahajád - Maison Crivelli. I dont know how or why they seem like a completely different perfume from the notes but yeah I'm gonna get a full bottle of this.

Warm, powdery violet with watery notes, accompanied by sweetly syrupy pear and hints of iris. I actually think this is quite lovely; clean, refreshing, very feminine. It’s noticeable without being loud. An ideal scent for spring, or when you need a reminder of warmer days to come.

doesn't smell like violet, but that doesn't mean I don't like it. Solar is the key word its airy and sunny, I think from the pear - almost juicy citrus.

The original L'eau d'Issey is the only aquatic I own, but it won me over quickly. If I'm going to have just one aquatic, it's that. Solar Violet smells very much the same, with the faintest hint of powdery violet and fresh pear... and I mean faint , so I wouldn't approach this with the expectation that it's going to blow you away. My thoughts are: if they were to make the violet and pear obvious in this blend, it would overpower it and lose the aquatic factor the og is known for. The slight powdery-ness of this is actually making it lean more into "baby wipes" territory. Overall, if you're a big fan of the og, I think you're good sticking with that one, unless you want something just a little different. I personally don't find it reasonable to own both, and this does not have the lasting power of its predecessor by a long shot. Edit: I revisited my sample (after almost a month) and I strongly suggest waiting a while and trying it again after a test run, because I definitely got more violet this time around. I'll give Solar Violet more credit now, and I do think it's feasible to own both the og and this flanker.

Still baffled by myself choosing this over Pivoine. Neither impressed me when sprayed and tested, but Solar Violet edged out Pivoine by bearing vague resemblance to Love Story EDT by Chloé. The latter was the only fresh floral perfume in my collection. This is safe to wear around friends or colleagues, so I was happy to keep it for occasional switches to something delicate and classic - otherwise never a fan of powdery florals. "Occasional" IN BOLD - as there's no chance this would stay on my "currently wearing" status over 24 hours. Not that it turns cloying or heavy easily, but like others said the linear, one-dimensional beam of soapy floral notes feels bland and lacklustre over the next couple of hours. You would be drained by that excessive clean musky drydown before COB. I'm looking forward to Issey experimenting with a few sweet and creamy flankers - and pls no more aquatic/mineral/aldehydic florals.

I am going to sound like a redditor, but this was the most disappointing fragrance that I had. I haven't been this disappointed since reflecting on my life. It's not the worst, but the most disappointing. It smells generic and artificial. It smells akin to lotion. I thought it would be a safe purchase because it had violet and iris, but I smell none of it in here. It seems to last a while on paper though. I will edit my review if my thoughts change. Update: After some time wearing it, the powderiness actually comes through and the artificial smell doesn't feel like it's there sometimes. I can't detect the violet, but the iris is doing its work. I can smell it on myself after 24 hours sometimes. I guess my only complaint is that it still has that synthetic lotion smell to it at times. It was disappointing at first because it was so light, but that isn't a crime. It lasts long.

This has definite "clean girl" energy—minimalist with a little hint of springtime cottagecore. It's an airy, fresh, fruity-floral scent. The pear gives the opening a bit of clean, fresh muskiness—nectar-sweet and borderline soapy. The woody-powder smoothness of the iris is extremely mild and only starts to come through for me around the half-hour mark. It's pretty, pleasant, and demure; almost diaphanously light. IMO this is a safe wear for pretty much all occasions and wearers. It pings as fairly youthful to me, but in a breezy and natural way that I think would suit someone elderly just as nicely as it would suit someone very young.

Very simple and without depth. Combination of sweet pear and powdery iris, the violets are only a gentle whisper. It is clean, fair scent with airy charm, but nothing else. Could be pleasant and fresh in spring-summer season, sometimes uncomplicated fragrances are most sympatic...

Powdery is the first thought that comes to mind. In addition the patented cap has broken after a few uses and doesn’t close. I have returned it for a replacement and hope I will enjoy wearing this over the summer, If I can get over the powdery notes, or I will try layering it.

this is pretty alright... has a heaviness that reminds me of 90's perfumes. not really feeling it so much as light or airy, and I like the floral aspects of it, but that's being a bit over-run. almost smells like a strong aftershave or a feminine leaning men's cologne

Hello? Hello, violets - are you there? This is a pleasant fruity floral with that clean, aquatic thing that Issey Miyake does so well, but I couldn't pick up the violet at all. Perhaps it is my uncultured nose.

Powdery floral, fresh, soft and pretty but nothing groundbreaking here. Even The dry down reminds me of Givenchy’s Irresistible. Safe blind buy though.

To me it smells like freesia at the beginning but dries down on skin to very one dimensional and paper like.
