Nuit d'Issey Bois Arctic

First, re: the smelly scientist... This is not a bubblegum scent at all. Are you in high tropical heat or something? Or chewing bubblegum? Drugs, maybe? One million lucky is bubblegum sweet. Stronger with you freeze opens with bubblegum. This is not bubblegum anywhere along the way. With that out of the way, I wanted to give this a few wears before I reviewed it. It's a great scent with a couple twists and turns. It starts out with a very bright and only slightly sweet citrus. The Grapefruit/mandarin/pepper work fantastically. After the uplifting opening, you get some more minty green vibes from the geranium and basil. There is an effervescence similar to noir argent in the mid, probably from the black pepper. You can smell the nuit d'issey dna here. Green is a big player in the mid, at least in cooler weather. I'm not a big fan of green scents but this works very well l. I have a feeling the vanilla-tobacco base will come out faster in warmer weather. I applied 5 sprays 12 hours ago (2 neck, 2 wrist, 1 chest), and the tobacco vanilla base is all that remains, still slightly stronger than a skin scent and very pleasant. I go noseblind to this at various points throughout the day. 6 hours in I stopped in at an office to work for a bit. Someone entered the room half an hour later and mentioned it smelled very manly. I couldn't smell it myself but it was still filling the room. I'm glad that happened because I almost wrote it off as an average performer. It's not the best in the line, but it's certainly the most unique and will get a lot of wears out of me year round.

As SmoothHomme said, it's static. I love that description. First time wearing this I wasn't sure what to think and I attribute that to the static vibe of this. I first thought maybe Ambroxan 🤔 ..no. what is that? Well, a year later and I can say this is my 2nd favorite next to Pulse Of The Night. It's not super complex however this and POTN are two of Isseys easiest and most pleasant to wear (for me). Opens fresh Basil, green Mandarin some fresh Grapefruit with Vanilla back. As it transitions the Basil sticks around with the Vanilla most to my nose with the green Mandarin and Grapefruit sitting back some letting the Vanilla warm up. However, the Vanilla never gets too warm or heavy. Tobacco is dry sweet and you almost have to search for it, but it does play with the Vanilla taking turns coming in and out or sitting just behind everything. There is some powderiness from Tonka. Moreso in the far dry down. Thus does evoke thoughts of fuzziness or static or likely what the perfumor intended , arctic cold fog but in a strange warm way. For reference I consider Ganymede cold. This is more "staring out the window from a warm house at the snow outside cold" . Spring, Fall and Winter for this one, it shines in early Spring however. That green fresh opening with a warmer back acts much like Layton far as functionality. This is a Love, and as with all Issey Miyake's best works this one gets tossed to the side like all the other discontinued flankers. If you can find this get it.

Just got around to wearing this Starts off citrusy and fresh. Packs a wallop but smells really pleasant. During the mid and the base the slight tobacco comes out and gives it a warmer feel compared to the top. I can’t say this really makes me think of “artic wood” or the northern lights but it smells amazing. I guess in the right situation it could invoke such thoughts. This smells fresh but has a masculine undertone that fits it nicely. And is quite unique. Cool thing about this is that it created this scent bubble around me. I kept and kept getting whiffs of this from one small spray to my wrist, it’s a fragrance that just lingers in the air around you. And people are going to like how you smell. The base gives off hints of Nuit d’issey Parfum, so you can pick up this is a flanker. Lasted a easy 10-12 hours. Even after a shower still on my wrist. I think you could wear this in many occasions. And many seasons. Haven’t gotten to try it in really warm weather but it may work. Hard to find but if you do, it’s worth it. *update. Deep drown down I think it smells more of which it’s trying to give off the image of. I don’t know what snow smells like if anything but for some reason the deep drydown of this, when I smelled it the first thing that came to mind is snow. Although it’s a warm tobacco ish smell!

#1500 in my "Tour de Fragrance" When Issey Miyake launched their first fragrance in 1992, I said it smelled like my armpits after a week on a field exercise with no access to a shower. L'Eau D'Issey Pour Homme line are all sour crap. Only a handful of Issey Miyake scents have been good scents, and they immediately realized their mistake and pulled them from the market. "Pulse of the Night", gone. "Polaris", gone. "Noir Argent", gone. "Blue Astral", gone. "Austral Expedition", gone. And also this one, gone. Great scent, high quality, vanilla, tonka, tobacco, basil, Miyake's characteristic grapefruit, though not their normally dry and sour variety, so of course it's discontinued and is only available from scalpers on eBay, and decanters that have some vial stock left. I just ordered a backup bottle of Nuit d'Issey EDP before they kill that too. The good die young at Miyake. Whoever the product managers are over there, they must be close relatives of the CEO or children of major stockholders to still have their jobs. For something along this line I can recommend an Alfred Dunhill Signature Collection EDP, "Egyptian Smoke." Not a dupe by any means, but similar vibe from a fragrance line whose days I hear are also numbered. Get them while you can.

Finally got my hands on this and I think it's an excellent fragrance. Easily a 9/10. Bottle design is beautiful. One of the best designs I've ever seen. Sillage is good. Projection is good (this is an EDP for those who are wondering). It's similar to Nuit D'Issey Polaris. So if you have that one you don't necessarily need this one. The main difference is the fresh opening in Bois Arctic. Very well blended. The notes transition nicely. It really does seem like something you would wear while watching the Northern Lights or sitting by a snowy campfire. A lot of people say this smells like Noir Argent or Nuit D'Issey Parfum....I have both and I would say this is different from either. Noir Argent has a very smoky dry-down. Nuit Parfum has a very sharp citrus opening. Bois Arctic has a softer take on both and the vanilla / fresh side is more prominent (whereas it's arguably non-existent on the other two). Overall great release from Issey Miyake. They nailed the execution of their idea and it's the only scent I've come across that does winter freshness well. That alone is worth a high score in perfumery.

Extremely pleasant fragrance and right in line with the creative Nuit D'issey collection. This is one of the easiest wears in the line. It reminds me of the Axe Kilo that I loved as a kid and could arguably be my first fragrance love. Very pleasant subtle citrus, basil (almost lightly minty) opening, layered over vanilla and tonka, with hints of black pepper and tobacco throughout. It's a very subtle scent, very long lasting however its sits relatively close for the bulk of its duration. It's definitely not a beast with projection even though I have frequently had 12+ hours of longevity. It's hugely disappointing that iI also go nose blind to this very easily, I can not smell it on myself, after only a few minutes, but if I go back to a piece of clothing the next day, I can easily smell it. I don't understand why Issey Miyake makes these beautiful complex scents and then immediately discontinues them. I don't see this one fetching Noir Ambré, Noir Argent, or Pulse of the Night prices, and I wouldn't pay as much even though the quality is there. 8.75/10

I absolutely love Bois Arctic! I blind bought this by the recommendation of a friend and it has since become my signature scent. It has an icy aspect to it, citrusy, smoky, an elusive sweetness that evades you when you try honing in on it, spicy from the pink and black pepper, and fresh. It's an interesting fragrance because in my opinion, though it's named after cold weather, and the bottle gradient is supposed to resemble an aurora borealis - I actually think this fragrance can be worn year round. It smells amazing in cold weather but the citrus and fresh aspects to it from the basil and geranium makes this so versatile. I think this is safe to classify as "eternal." I sprayed a hoodie Monday with it, and yesterday (Thursday) rummaging through which hoodie to wear I was graced with a nice whiff of Bois Arctic. On days I do wear it I get whiffs of it throughout my day. It's an under appreciated banger of a fragrance, not to mention so reasonably priced when bought from discounters.

I love this base DNA: beautiful fresh cut tobacco, amber, and vanilla. You will also find it in Pulse of the Night and Polaris, but this is a much fresher take on it with the opening green and citrus notes. I have been experimenting with using this fragrance more in the summer while layering other fresh, citrus-forward frags to really elevate its versatility. LV Afternoon Swim definitely works amazingly well, or in my case, Paris Corner North Stag Expressions IV Quatre. The citrus notes used in AS/Quatre is very similar to the orange and grapefruit notes in the opening of Bois Arctic and really makes it work in these warmer, more humid months. This fragrance impresses me more and more as I use it, I recently purchased a backup, even though I almost sold my first bottle at the beginning of the year. It is absolutely niche quality and if you put it in a Xerjoff bottle and released it, it would be so much more popular. It honestly reminds me of a Xerjoff style fragrance.

Great opening! So I sprayed this on to try it out since it was alittle on the cooler side today.. The opening is fantastic.. something I have smelled before but couldn't put my finger on it.. As I was walking my dog this morning a old friend stopped to say hi.. she did compliment me and asked what I was wearing i looked down and said khaki shorts hahaha yeah im a smartass. Then I told her I got a sample of this fragrance and its super expensive.. then I showed her the pic on here and what it was called.. she said I smelled fantastic which was cool.. then went on my way.. this fragrance lasted me about 7 hours and became a skin scent with in the 2-3 hour mark.. If this was more affordable Id grab it in a heart beat.. Thanks John for sending the sample my way.. Id say this is a more mature smelling fragrance and is an every day every occasion wear.. I dig it! 8.7/10

After spending some more time with Bois Arctic, I would like to add some notes to my previous review: This shares the same base DNA as Pulse of the Night, but has a fresh green and citrus opening. I prefer this to PotN, even though it doesn't usually get as much love from the community. I believe Polaris shares this same base DNA as well: it's a very earthy smell, almost like damp cedar, green tobacco (smells like fresh cut grass), light patchouli, and tonka. Polaris has much more layered over the top and is a much more complex composition. Bois Arctic doesn't typically fetch the same prices as some of the older Nuit D'issey flankers, but it seems to have had a much more limited production; the prices aren't as high as Polaris, PotN, or Noir Argent, but it is much harder to find.

This popped up on eBay at a decent price, so since it’s discontinued and the only other bottle there was $150 for a used one, I had to grab it. First impressions. Very nice. Smells like a blue fragrance with a twist so the beautiful blue bottle definitely fits the juice. It’s not extremely complex but doesn’t really smell like anything I’ve smelled before, so I’m not sure why they discontinued it shortly after releasing it. Smells like it can be worn day or night so it’s very versatile. Not sure on longevity yet but overall I’m quite pleased and I’m happy to add this to my collection. If you’re lucky enough to snag a bottle I recommend it. 8/10

The bottle design is what sold me, and I have had my eye on this for a long time. When I received it at first, I was a bit underwhelmed. But the more I wore it the better I liked it. Having Pulse of the Night as well, I could compare the two and notice how much more "winter" this smelt like. Issey Miyake really did sell the concept of this fragrance to me well; it is something I can see myself wearing this as I sit on top of a cliff in Norway looking at the Aurora Borealis. Projection is good and longevity is not bad either. Personal Rating: 8.5/10

uplifting and sparkling yet sophisticated , aromatic almost balsamic fresh minty blast as skin scent can push to 12 hours and beyond , my gf detects it the other day and craves the far dry down quite versatile and can be worn in mid heat

Found a local shop here in my country that gave me a leftover tester as part of a deal. Was super stoked as I was looking for this for a while since it was discontinued. Great winter fragrance, just wished it lasted longer. 8/10

I'm a big fan of the Nuit d'Issey series so I was very excited for the Bois Arctic when it was promoted for the first time. From the official note breakdown I've had a vision in my head of what this perfume could smell like: a sweet fragrance with hints of freshness. When I got it, it didn't surprised me: the opening is fresh and in time when it dries down, the base note starts to shine and becomes sweeter with some hints of greenness (from the geranium and basil). As it evolves it becomes sweeter and a little bit darker, a tiny bit smokey - there's no incense here from the official breakdown so maybe it's from the tobacco. Does this fragrance resembles to the other Nuit d'Issey flankers? This is a unique one as all the others, but it has hints of the line. IMO if you like the Noir Argent and Polaris than you'll definitely like this one because it has some vibes from them. It's not for everyone so I suggest that you may go out to your local perfumery and test it before you buy. Don't blind buy this. And the big question: how would I rate? Longevity: good, as all the other flankers - I get 8+ hours. It projects well for at least 2 hours, than it settles back a little bit and at about the 6th-7th hour mark, it starts to become a skin scent. Sillage: great, like all the other flankers from the line - it creates a nice scent bubble around you and people will definitely smell you with 4-5 sprays. Maybe you shouldn't overspray it crazy, because you could offend some people around you. Scent: it's not challenging but not what everyone will like IMO. If you like sweet, woodsy fragrances with a hint of greenness and freshness than you'll enjoy it. Test it on your skin not on paper. If I had to rate I'd give it 8,5 out of 10. I need more time with it to test deeply but right now, for me it's a little below Noir Argent and Polaris and above Pulse of the Night (I know the majority like PotN more - I love it as well but if I had to rank these four great frags, PotN would be the last).

Cooling and minty with some in-the-background black leather. A bit thin as others have stated. Bottle is really pretty and it does smell like the bottle looks. I'm writing this less as a review and more to ask... where did this fragrance go? I bought it from The Bay here in Canada right when it came out. If it ever hit discounters, it was for a very brief time. Now you can only find it on eBay for over $300. I've never seen a new product come and go like that before in the span of 4 months or so. I hope Issey Miyake realize the popularity of these flankers and bring back at least the most beloved ones. Polaris, Pulse of the Night, Noir Argent etc. If you're really wanting this one and wondering if its worth ponying up extra money for, it isn't. It is pleasant but non-essential. More Nuit flankers please Issey Miyake!

@Ziyaad you get less than 2 hours with Bleu Astral? It’s certainly not a performer but I do get 5 hour-ish. I like it but to me it’s certainly the weakest of the Nuit line. if I had to rank them they’d go: Noir Argent Polaris Nuit Parfum Pulse Nuit OG Bleu Astral I’m yet to try Bois Arctic but I have high expectation levels

As @garantis28 said, this is remarkably similar to Axe Kilo. I do pick up the tobacco note, which was missing from Kilo. I think that the silage is poor, and the duration is meh at like 5 hours more or less. It is a pleasant scent, brings back memories of more than 15 years since I used Axe Kilo in Middle/High school.

In stock on fragrancenet as i type this. Purchased this morning as soon as i seen it. Will update when it comes. UPDATE: Very nice fruity citrus opening. Only last 30 min or so. Mid is blue astral. Drydown is nuit dissey parfum heavy on vanilla.

@Ziyaad For me sadly, Bleu Astral is the weakest flanker of the Nuit d'Issey line. On me it performs poorly, I get about 4-5 hours of it with a decent projection. I mostly use this daytime in spring and summer.

Try layer with Noir Argent, 1:2 with Bois Arctic being 2 sprays over the 1. Adds that depth I wish it had. I do enjoy it but not a love for me. I was hoping the tobacco would be more dominant. 7/10

I like this one. It's very hard to find now for some reason, but probably not worth the prices it goes for. If I had to describe it, it smells like Noir Argent mixed with Bleu Astral. It's a pretty versatile scent, but something about the sweetness bothers me, I just can't say exactly what. It's kind of a sugary sweetness, and it's a little thin. Overall it's nice though, maybe worth it for the bottle alone. 6.5/10

Like other “Limited Edition” flankers from Nuit D’Issey, (Austral Expedition, Bleu Astral), those are usually & traditionally marketed for spring or fall releases by Shiseido Fragrances therefore they are marketed to be much less concentrated. So consequently the lasting power is also less naturally but that’s what exactly supposed to be like to “compliment” the regular Nuit D’Issey line. Sorry for the disappointment but they intentionally marketed as “spring/fall collections”. It’s exactly the same idea like summer limited edition flankers of L’Eau D’Issey Pour Homme. I used to work for them so here’s the tips for you guys as I see many guys thought Nuit D’Issey Limited Edition Flankers are also “expected” or “supposed to” last as long as the original ones but they don’t. I also have Nuit D’Issey Austral Expedion but I always spray or douse myself ALL OVER & AROUND my body so that it stays for the great amount of time but still fresh & mysterious. Another tip for these fresher limited edition versions to last longer, use some of other woody/oudy, vanilla/tonka, musky, balsamic/Oriental fragrance as the base to give some layers so that will definitely give more depths and longevity as well as recreates another improvised unique self version of Nuit D’Issey. You will enjoy the art of layering. 👍🏽👍🏽✨😉

I love issey miyake, their products are unique, a good value, and the bottles are just awesome I mean really. That said, Bois Arctic is a well blended scent but the sweetness is a bit of a detriment with this one. It’s almost like if you chewed a piece of mint gum with a piece of bubblegum. It kinda feels like it’s trying to be a more unisex and playful version of Eros edp to me. It’s addicting and fairly unique but be careful with it as it is pretty sweet and strong. I really really think they could benefit from toning down the sweetness and adding something like cypress or pure mint to balance it out while still maintaining the citrus and pepper opening and allowing the tobacco to come out more to distinguish it from Eros. Those improvements to make it more grown up and arctic-y coupled with that incredible presentation could give them a serious banger. Till then it’s an okay sweet/herbal scent with good performance but definitely gonna be a little bubblegummy for some 6.5-7.5/10 for me

A fresh, cold fog of sweet spicy sparkly mint. The only reason it is considered spicy is because that harsh/sharp effect is transferred from the mint/basil to the rest of the fragrance but not in an overly strong way, but it is good at representing the starry aurora in the snow effect it attempts to portray, and is very static if that makes sense. At some moments, it may not even smell like it is a perfume and instead an ambient smell(Maybe due to the tobacco.) Slightly smoky. If it was a song it would either be Vanished or an instrumental version of Untrust Us by Crystal Castles. I can't say when this fragrance is good for, but it will call to you on that day. A mysterious, stoic, static, and uncommon 9/10

Hmmm I have now tried nuit edt, nuit parfum and this one. Bois arctic is the least 'distinctive out of the three.. so from the same family but less loud .. The edt slaps you in the face with wood and gentle dry tobacco for hours, and then a beautiful dry down, the parfum slaps you with incense/smokeiness for ages and then a beautiful drydown. Bois is gentler, the aromatics are more rounded and quiet, it isn't sweet and seems to not have the lovely dry down the other two I mentioned have. I can't smell individual notes like with the other two... There is nothing arctic or ice to it. Quite good for a man, but as a female I won't keep it as I would layer it and wouldn't wear this on its own.

@smell my fingers Regrettably, I am not on drugs. Maybe if I was it wouldn’t smell so much like bubblegum or cotton candy. The fragrance is not meant to be bubblegum sugary like one million but the formulation loses everything but a combination of sweeter notes in the dry down so it starts to resemble something sugary. The vanilla is not like, say, Eros where it actually smells like creamy smooth vanilla with some spice. It’s a bit artificial is all I’m saying and if you’re expecting A minty spicy vanilla and tobacco with this one to resemble a cool arctic feel with a little sweetness you’re not gonna get that. The sweet is simply out of balance in my opinion

Green by leaf and citrus seasoning. It's peppery and aromatic. What I call a Green Lantern cologne. Some others are Spicebomb Night Vision, Boss Bottled Unlimited, Mercedes Benz VIP Club Pure Woody. This one has an icey accord in the mid like his Astral Expedition, that covers though the drydown. The balance between fern green and sweet green is good. The flair of it is sort of reminds me of Versace but it's more taut. The pepper swirls out in amber rather than release by incense.

This is exactly why I regularly scour the review pages, to witness an epic battle of wits between 'The Smelly Scientist' and 'Smell My Fingers' and what not! Having said that, I hope this release from Issey Miyake stirs somewhat of an interest, Fusion D'Issey and the Shades collection were a positive snooze fest

Got a small sample of this and fell in love with it. It's green and fresh, but there's an iciness in it that makes it perfect for cold weather. I don't get any of the "bubblegum" scent that others have mentioned. After some digging, I managed to find a bottle, and it's on it's way!

northing wildly new. slightly spicy aquatic/citrus type scent with no hint of tobacco. Falls in line with the lighter issey miyake releases. very pleasing and easy to wear - not special by any stretch - but will please most who try it. 6/10

Should have known that this is another ambroxan/amberwood bomb. That's all I get off the top - no citrus, no pepper - just ambroxan. For those that are extra-sensitive to it, this is a definite pass.

it's not minty to me - I get smokey fresh spices, a little tobacco and basil. Kinda herbal but clean smoke. Nothing arctic yet lft elb
