One Man Show

Well dang! I must say, after having been (COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY LET DOWN) by my recent purchases of some classic mens fragrances, and their rediculously bad reformulations of fragrances such as Ralph Lauren's Polo, Tuscany per Uomo and Dior Fahrenheit for example, this bottle of Bogart's One Man Show is a freakin' AWESOME change of pace!! Also, although its possible that since my bottle is brand new and hasnt macerated, I definately would NOT consider this a "Chypre" or even a "Green fragrance" bc I get absolutely NO PINE NEEDLES, but I would definately call this an "Oriental Spicey aromatic/Fougere fragrance". One Man Show has this MOUTH-WATERING, fresh, spicey, clean, semi-sweet, "spiced spearmint" like opening which is probably provided by the Basil/Cardamom combo, and is just SUPER appealing and addictive! Oh man! I'm wearing this right now for the very first time, and I just hope that the"maceration process" doesn't change this opening much bc its so damn GORGEOUS! And to think that I got both the 3.4 oz bottle of fragrance along with the 6 oz body spray for just $20! Freakin' CRA CRA! I also have Bogart Pour Homme which I really like and didnt think could be surpassed by this house, but this is pretty dang close to at-least being tied with Bogart Pour Homme! Also, I know this is considered a "classic dna", but I dont recall another fragrance that smells quite like this one does which imo makes this pretty "unique". It's especially that "sweet/spearmint like "Basil/spiciness" in the opening thats doin' it for me. Now I must say that the performance isn't as great as I thought it would be because the strong opening fades within 20 -30 mins and seems weak once it reaches the mid, BUT again, my bottle is brand spankin' new, so Im pretty sure that after it "macerates" a bit, it'll open up and be just fine, which actually happens quite a bit with new bottles of perfume. Also, yeah, if ya were to put this juice in a "niche brand's bottle", along with a few performance and oil quality tweaks, NOBODY would bat an eye and this would probably be a "hype beast" in the fragcom! Take a look at Naxos by Xerjoff which smells a lot like Bogart Pour Homme for example, its a "niche dna". 8 outta 10 (SUPER AFFORDABLE) fragrance in my opinion and even better once the performance imrpoves. Hits way, WAY above its price point.. TOTAL SCORE!!😊 And thanks to whomever took the time to read my thoughts on Bogart's One Man Show! Stellar frag! -----------------UPDATE------------------- Well, It's been well over a month, and YES, The performance has improved some. I do have to "over-spray" just a little bit to get this frag to perform during a full work shift probably bc of the mandatory reformulation (OakMoss), but with One Man Show being as affordable as it is, I ain't complaining. I also really enjoy wearing this scent whenever I have something to do in the early a.m. bc it's NOT offensive and the ultra clean, pleasant spicey-soapiness seems pleasant, inviting and inoffensive. This scent is AWESOME! -------edit 2‐------- After a couple more months of maturing, One Man Show really does last a lomg time (especially on clothes where its noticable for days). Its also bocome a bit more potent, and so imma need to bump this thing up from an 8 to a 9 outta 10. It's pretty addictive, so appealing and almost "Yummy Soapiness " if that makes any sense? Pertty sexy/masculine stuff! Lol

One Man Show was released in 1980. My bottle is from 2003. just purchased December 2025 This is just a masterpiece in all honesty. Hall of Fame, take this one to the bank. I think personally, this is one of the finest, manliest and most uncompromising classic colognes all time. Its not only amazing, its affordable and is still available at a great price with the same level of performance it always had (unlike many other reformulated classics of its era). This is one of the manliest fragrances ever made. Its old school certified, its genre is chypre fougere barbershop and its absolutely eighties, commanding and masculine. Its a lot like Polo (Ralph Lauren OG green 1978) and Quorum (Antonio Puig) from the same era but the difference lies in its less foresty feel and its fearless tenacity. Theres maybe a touch more citrus and a smokier depth, a little more powdery, less leather and patchouli and less fougere earthiness. its so very close to Polo and Quorum ....a few little differences but not too much, maybe a bit sweeter, more barbershop and its definitely less complex. One Man Show is clean yet grimy, earthy, raw, rugged, outdoors, dirty and pretty loud. This is an expression of its times, a mans man scent, bombastic, confident and doesn't suffer fools gladly. Its still bang strong in the modern era. The kind of man juice scent that was massive in the eighties and personally i still love these eighties strength chypre/fougere classics. I sure couldn't wear them daily or even every week though...... and summer is just a no go, this is for winter and autumn. Mens colognes of the 21st century just don't smell like this anymore, and men just don't smell like this anymore, which is why i love to wear classic fougere chypres like this every few weeks. Like playing a classic Hendrix album at full volume and pissing the neighbours off, its a wonderful treat every now and then.....filthy loud, nasty, dirty yet smooth, rich with harmony, tightly rhythmic, glidingly structured by genius and unquestionably a masterpiece. Pine, patchouli, dusky leather, persistent animalic castoreum, floral/geranium, set off with a light touch of spice and smokiness, fresh, foresty, green yet plenty deep, a typically fierce chypre with hefty sillage, projection and longevity but way darker and deeper than most. Basenotes are beautifully addicting, smoky patchouli and just delectable. I adore the drydown on this....a classic gentleman chopping wood in the woods scent. You can't get a better old school classic for this price, you just can't..... and you won't find many better expressions of traditional masculinity either. Possibly the definitive most masculine Chypre Fougere of all time, minimum it achieves a place on the podium next to Polo and Antaeus. Hall of Fame for me and its still selling for around 20-25 bucks maximum, 15 if you shop around. So if you're looking for an affordable classically old school scent that still performs as well as it ever did for a mans man type of guy, what are you waiting for?

Just as many may have grown tired of the same formulaic manner of writing about fragrance, I have grown tired of some of my own played out tropes. What more can I add to the discussion of One Man Show? There are nearly 300 reviews on Fragrantica, 67 on Basenotes, and 17 more on Parfumo at the time of this writing. It's hard not to assume that all bases have been covered. Yet, I am compelled to give my thoughts as I have a sense of duty, as it were. A duty to give my take, even as I often debate its relevance—my take, not One Man Show, that is a whole other fistful of pine needles. Pine needles, yes! One Man Show is the smell of pine needles...and man musk. One reviewed referred to One Man Show as "pleasantly green." It's "pleasantly green" like Schiaparelli Shocking is "pleasantly floral." Some mention urinal cakes, others mention root beer, still others mention fresh parsley. One person suggested it is the animus to Cacharel LouLou's anima. What is most fascinating is how varied the opinions truly are: from reverence to revulsion. Many have made clear that the vintage is richer and more full-bodied that more recent iteration, and I wholeheartedly agree. I had a newer bottle and it felt screechy, skeletal, and acrid. The vintage I now own has a sexy pith of pungency, a castoreum accord that newer versions lack, and just feels...seductive. A feral, masculine mischief of a scent. Sure, I could say it isn't quite as refined as my beloveds, Yatagan and Devin. But I just can't help getting past the idea that this is what Al Pacino as Detective Steve Burns smelled like in Cruisin', dancing in that Meatpacking District bar, sweat dripping off his chest, dampening his black tank as he huffs that amyl-saturated tee. Ok, I will leave it at that. At least it can't be said that I added nothing new to the discussion.

I just received this in the mail, and it smells awful. Almost like there's a sour/rotten undertone. I'll probably wait a while and test it again, but so far I don't like it at all. Maybe pine notes just aren't my thing. I was hoping for something green and animalic, but this isn't good. I don't smell any animalic notes at all. Also I'm not a big fan of the sprayer, it seems a little flimsy. Update: Ok so this seems actually wearable now. I've only worn it at home a couple times. Seems to last a long time. Still not my favorite scent, but it is quite pleasant now. For some reason I like the idea of spraying it on my bed/sheets. I still don't notice any animalic notes. Was hoping for something a little dirty, but it's still very masculine. Update 2: I've given up on this one. The smell is not bad, but something about it is so sharp and a bit bothersome after a while. I may still pull it out from time to time just to smell it, but I likely will not ever wear it. Update 3: This is one of the most confusing fragrances I own. I randomly decided to wear it to work for the first time, and it performed beautifully on my skin. I only used one spray and could smell it all day. I'm not sure what changed, but the scent is amazing now! It starts off so woody and clean, later it gets spicier and warm, and then later the leathery sweetness comes out. I was not expecting this at all. I guess it's important to do a proper wearing before deciding how you feel about a fragrance, because on paper/on my hand I was never really in love with this one before. But now I love it. It's so masculine and classic, but doesn't smell like an old man or anything. It seems great for cooler weather, I wouldn't wear this in the summertime. I'm tempted to look for a vintage version just to compare.

EDIT: Update--I have no acquired a bittle of Versace L'Homme, and this--One Man Show--must have been what Versace was going for, and does it a bit better, actually. Original Post: I was prepared to hate it. Bought it just because of the name lol and because it was so cheap—figured it would be some 80s over-powering garbage that I at least needed to know what it smelled like, for “research.” But I now feel it actually is a sophisticated scent. Definitely mature, but nothing animalic or gross (thankfully not like Kouros, yuck!) Two sprays are enough though. It’s not like modern juicy fruity colognes. Think of a man in a dark gray flannel suit. Nicely polished brown leather Allan Edmunds. Gold watch. maybe a college professor, maybe a kindly, august insurance agent, bank manager. Maybe a dad who coaches his kids Pop Warner football, or even a guy that finally got his life together and is just beginning to make a little money for once. If you are practical in common things but still like the finer things, this could be for you. It’s cheap and reliable. Definitely good for cold weather. Definitely not good for hot or humid weather. Of all the notes listed above, accurate, but there is also a really nice, strong, black tea note to this on the dry down. The bottle is dated in design and cheap looking. No way around that, it looks cheap. But the good stuff inside is actually a pretty complex, deep, sophisticated scent. Also it has a beastly longevity without being obnoxious about projection.
