L'Oree du Bois

So I own 3 from this Jacques Fath line- Vers le Sur, Tempête D'Automne and those are really nice, but this one? L'oree Du Bois is my absolute favorite outta the three hands down! I just love the way the perfumer captures the sense of Dried, grassy/hay and dried yellow florals which Ive learned is the Broom.-Flower along with a touch of sweetness from the Honey note. Its extremely unique and quite "Unisex" possibly even leaning masculine, but that part probably just depends on skin chemistry. This is one of those "Special" fragrances that I just cant stop putting my nose up to where ever it is Id sprayed it to get a good whiff of it while having my eyes roll in the back of my head! Lol! When I take a deep whiff I get something like Honeysuckle behind the dry grass/hay smell from the Broom-Flower note, but thats probably from the Mimosa Abdolute I suppose. It really just smells amazing imo and the more time ya spend with this scent and understand it, the more addictive it becomes as one can tell from the reviews here on Fragrantica. Its a very "Autumnal fragrance" and I feel that October and November are thee perfect time of year for it. Its not a "Beastmode" fragrance but it does have great longevity and above average sillage for the first one to two hours and then becomes a very present skin-scent for 6 to 7 hours on skin, but is still noticable the following day on clothes. L'oree Du Bois is easily one of my favorite pick ups of 2025 and I give this a 9 outta 10 which is a rare score from me. After spending about a week wearing this amazing scent I had to grab a larger 3.4oz bottle especially since this line is now sadly discontinued. Sufficed to say I'M HOOKED!🫠

***Update from 11/2025*** So, I've now had L'oree Du Bois in my collection for nearly 6 months now and it's most definately become my favorite (non-rose) "Floral" next to Villoresi's- Garofano. The reason Im giving an "Update" is bc of how much the over-all performance has improve for L'oree Du Bois. Whereas initially I was getting 6 to 7 hours on skin, Im now getting 8 to 9 hours and I can smell it for DAYS on clothes and in the morning on skin when I wake up after using it the night before. I also have a wonderful layering combo: 1 spritz of Annick Gutal's-Sables, then 1 to 2 spritzes of L'oree Du Bois over Sables. While Sables is long-lasting it wont over power L'oree Du Bois and adds an additional dimension and richness to this already GORGEOUS dna. Also wanted to add that although some may find this dna to be "Polarizing" and while it seems to be one of Fath's least popular frags in the line, this fragrance has garnered me A TON of unsolicited, positive attention with some of my co-workers who know Im a collector stating "Oh, this one's an expensive one huh?", or "OMG that one smells So, So good!." Ive also had customers compliment me and ask what I was wearing and to my amazement even my Mom who is notorious for disliking ANYTHING other than "Clean-Freshies" or Classic-Clean Masculine scents and she'll definately letcha know when she dislikes a fragrance THAT'S for sure! Lol. Oh, and another huge bonus atleast in my mind is that I DO NOT go anosmic to this scent and can get whiffs of it throughout my day which is yet another teason I love this fna so much. Jacques Fath - L'oree Du Bois has climbed from a 9 to an easy yet VERY-rare 10 outta 10 in my book.

Lately, I've noticed the tendency for fragrance content creators to reduce the description of a scent to just a few words, often, say, three adjectives. If I were to use this approach for L'Oree de Bois, it would be: 'Autumnal yellow floral. Evocative, woody, warm.' Is that enough, though? Or should I mention the 'notes' that I smell as well? Yes, don't mind if I do. It is the bitter-honeyed broom (genet) accord juxtaposed with a cassie absolute (Sweet Acacia, Vachellia farnesiana, different from Mimosa decurrens var. dealbata) that is the principal feature to my nose. Indeed, there is a shade of ylang-ylang, some muted citrus, and an overall musky woodiness, but it's that coupling that wins me over. It's as if I can feel the texture with my nose, a fine powder and fuzzy petals tickling my nostrils. There is something here that reminds me of the aging foliage and the fallen autumn leaves of October. However, there is also a bit of humidity to it, the gauziness of a slightly warmer day in the season. What keeps this from being entirely classic in feel is Maffei's usage of cashmeran, though I do not object to this choice. I've grown to have affection for cashmeran when used cleverly and here it seems to extend the sensation of the broom/cassie pairing into the drydown. It's a mild and lovely wear—well done!

Paraphrasing the 50 shades of Grey, I will talk about the 4 faces of the mimosa. Only 4 as it happened and I saw them. The first would be Mimosa Austral which is like a fairy, blonde and curly, ethereal and diaphanous. The second is Champs Elisee, a flower power mimosa, with boho jewelry and dressed in multicolored hippy clothes. It is accompanied by a kaleidoscope of other notes as in a carousel. The third is Poeme, the mimosa lady, dressed in a haute couture suit, confident, elegant, the one who intimidates a little. Hey, finally, the fourth mimosa, with which you may say I should have started, is LOree du Bois. She is a mimosa in a black leather suit, with boots, with a helmet that hides her sight but under which a braided tail is left behind and that climbs on her Harley motorcycle. The leather with wooden tarred hint is not listed, but it is most likely born from the accords of sandalwood, cashmeran and cumin. The perfume is not harsh at all, being sweetened by waves of golden honey and ylang flowers. It entered on the top 5 favorites from the first smell. The only disappointment is that it seems to have been discontinued.*****

This is what you wear when you don't want to smell like ever other guy wearing JPG/YSL/and Aqua di Gio flankers! This is a fantastic niche fragrance from Italian-born perfumer Luca Maffei . Took a bit to become accustomed to the yellow florals-as I prefer darker scents- but it turns into this woody, musky scent with a tad of honey and floral. Gorgeous and unique. Get it!

It took me a day for this to grow on me. But once I got hooked, I bought a backup bottle. I caught the insanely great deal on fragrancenet where all their Jacques fath was under $30. This is borderline Extrait. The oil content is massive. You will get a slick upon spraying. The scent while not mind blowing is comfortingly addictive.

An interesting perfume,full of contrasts, is bright and dark at the same time but it is also very elegant. I like how it develops, it leaves an unforgettable trail. I will buy a bottle soon. Sillage: 8./10 Longevity: 7./10 Scent: 8.5/10 Overall: 8.5/10

an interesting, unique, odd, sweet floral that goes on almost oud and animalic in the top (cumin showing it's head) then a bit incense with mimosa, neroli, honey and musk in the top; in the base it is all animalic honeyed musk

Fresh Mimosa, Honey, Cashmere, musk mix. Mild and gentle, a bit skinclose. I find a memoryscent here, a hint of Summer by Kenzo. Wonderful. Superfemale'ish (Samplekit)

I love the smell of the wood and honey, but unfortunately after a couple of minutes I get anosmic to this scent.

L'Oree du Bois by Jacques Fath is available on fragrance net for less than $25, although the exact price depends on the bottle size. The packaging is high quality, with a strong, snappy magnetic cap. The box is very nice as well. LOdB smells like honey from mimosa with cardamom on the atomizer and cap. On skin, it is completely different and the cumin note really pops out while the sweetness calms down. The cumin smells sweaty and animalic on me for about 30 minutes and then it calms down and blends with a general dry spice in the background. I do not like the cumin phase. The dusty mimosa is noticeable throughout the entire wear and there is something else that is dry and herbal, like a forest floor, maybe a little like decaying leaves and soil. A soft floral musk with dry mimosa dominates an hour into the dry down. It is difficult to pick out the listed notes because everything is blended together. Maybe I am smelling neroli and cashmeran. I need to spend more time with LOdB to really decide how much I like this. I'm currently obsessed with mimosa, but I'm not sure if this is one of my favorite renditions, but I do like it. Also, I completely agree with other reviewers who say that even though mimosa if a spring floral, many fragrances exhibiting that note smell like fall and this one is no exception. Overall, LOdB is very unique and I have nothing like this in my collection. My husband does not like this, although he he didn't elaborate--it just "smells not good".

When first spraying and before looking at the ingredients I thought it was a bit more masculine ambery scent. Now looking at the ingredients, yes, I sort of smell the saffron and honey but can't really detect the other ones that clearly. Perhaps cumin and honey in the drydown as some pointed out. To me it's more like a well-blended soft woody spicy scent with lots of honey, very unique I would say. It's unisex to me, but I am surprised how many think it's more feminine. I think it is not that sweet or flowery. I was actually reliefed that I couldn't detect neroli since that is some of the few scents I can't stand. I definitely like this scent, perhaps not a full bottle for me as I find it very weak - I can barely smell it after a few moment after spraying and I needed to reapply quite a bit to smell it myself. I probably continue spraying it home for my own pleasure but might choose something else when going out.

Wow, beautiful! It experience a kaleidoscope of scents in the first few minutes - pollen-heavy florals, honey, saffron, cumin. It’s delicious. I then get a whiff of dryer sheets for just a moment. It then settles into this soft, honeyed floral woody fragrance with a tinge of humidity. I can tell that humid feeling comes from the saffron. I wish I could find out which aromachemical was used for the saffron here as it’s my preferred version of saffron (no birch, leather, or BR540 here, thank goodness). This one smells like real saffron. I’m probably making too much of this point as most likely won’t even notice that aspect of the fragrance, but it certainly stands out to me. This fragrance suits the shoulder seasons - perfect for spring and fall.

This really puts a smile on my face. I get so, so, so much honey with a light dusting of cumin. It's quite pleasant. The only thing is that it doesn't really ... inspire me. It feels lovely, but it doesn't spark any kind of sensation, which is my threshold for considering to buy a full bottle. So it'll be a pass. (P.S. The longevity isn't great either.)

Honeyed yellow floral bomb with a sparkling, slightly soapy top coat. Sweet and creamy at heart but with a little pollinic-powdery veneer. The smidge of citrus and neroli give it that clean surface polish, while the sandalwood and saffron impart a woody-leathery base smell. Moderate projection for 2-3hr, longevity 8-10hr.

I wasn't expecting to love this so much, but I'm really enjoyig this. It's honeyed yellow flowers with a touch of mandarin orange. @alphairone is spot-on with his description. So beautiful and unique.

My partner and I like this a lot. I get hints of cinnamon over sandalwood, flowers, ever slight sweetness. The cashmeran elevates it. Overall, I think it’s a sophisticated, classy perfume. Very nice.

This fragrance is all about wildflowers and cumin, which stand out the most, with a hint of honey and mandarin in the background. It has a unique vibe that’s hard to describe. I feel like it’s best for a spring picnic or spending time at a country house. It gives off “country girl” energy—it’s not sexy or something you’d wear to work, but more casual and relaxed.

Flowers, neroli, orange blossoms, musk and cumin... This reminds me a lot of Serge Lutens’s Fleurs d’Oranger, only FdO is better with better projection and longevity.

Maybe my decant went bad, I don’t know. I smell rancid flowers and dry, powdery wood. Tried scrubbing it off, but the scent is persistent.
