Red Shoes

This fragrance is sumptuous. I have to say I'm normally not a big fan of red fruit notes but here it's so different, I just fell in love with this perfume. The grapefruit and the aldehydes balance the red berries and the black current very well and give a sparkling opening. The Damask Rose adds a nice floral and elegant touch. To me, it's a very sophisticated fragrance and I can easily imagine it worn by a distinguished lady at the opera in a red velvet decor. The sillage is beautiful and it's very long lasting. Congratulations to Cécile Zarokian ! I'd just like to add some information about the story of this fragrance : The Red Shoes is the name of a British film (1948) and Jacques Fath (French fashion designer) created the costumes for the actress Moïra Schearer who plays a ballerina. Later in 1950, Fath created a beautiful red silk dress for his own collection and gave it the name of the film. Cécile Zarokian then took her inspiration from this dress to create the fragrance.

I am so glad I paid no attention to bad reviews, as this little gem is a true masterpiece. In order to like this, one has to have appreciation for the art of perfumery and guts to wear stuff that is not necessarily pleasing to the masses. Opening is a bit strange, but I love strange fumes, so I utterly enjoy the extra funk underneath the rose and berries. I could have sworn that was oud, but looking at the notes and realizing there is none in this composition, I am guessing it is either patch or black currant. In about an hour, all the funk is gone ( I wish it stayed longer), but the drydown is absolutely delicious, if not even glorious sweet rose mixed with berries. This is grown up, sexy stuff. I sprayed single spray at 2pm and as I am writing this, at 9pm I am getting these gorge whifs of rose every time I move. I think this one will be in my top 10 for sure. So, so beautiful!

Fizzy berry cocktail for adults) Or for those who usually don't like berry compotes. Or berry shower gels. A bit reminiscent of the Kir Royal cocktail. The berry start is not chemical, but not entirely natural either - natural berries don't smell as strong. No added sugar. The aldehydes feel metallic/crystalline, very sparkling and iridescent, not soapy. Afterwards, a large silk deep red rose appears. Here, almost the entire pyramid is not to my taste, but it is so harmoniously composed and the effect of crisp dark red silk is so convincing that I give in. Lasts and is felt all day, does not tire the owner and those around. Very diffuse. Bright, but not overwhelming.

Juicy redcurrants! A slight air of les belles di ricci about it. More of the ginger and rose in the opening but becomes more juicy, tangy and fruity. Projects and lasts well and smells very realistic, not synthetic in a fruity bath products way at all. Imagine this would be amazing in hot weather as it's not too sweet either.

wow. this is so sexy and unique fragrance. on a woman it smells like a sophisticated, warm, confident woman. on a man it smells like a male model. cecile is a genius, how can be created such a unique signature fragrance. one in a thousand perfumes i smelled like this one.

This is the favorite from all 12 scents from this house. It is fresh, tangy and delicate. I might get a 15 ml bottle actually. It reminds me a lot of the latest Dior Rouge Trafalgar - where roses are mixed with berries. I understand Red Shoes is a favorite among others. But I wouldn't assosiate this scent with red shoes, it is not THAT sofisticated, imho. This is more of a light pink t-shirt with jeans and White sneakers.

It has such an annoying, swirling metallic note I find it unwearable.

Aldehydic rosy berries. Fuzzy aldehydes with a bunch of fruity berries and a strong fresh rose. There's a somewhat unpleasant sourness underneath, like fermented patchouli, which does fade as it dries down to a musky-woody rose skin scent. Strong projection for 4-5hr, longevity 10-12hr.

Synthetic fruity opening that dries down to a not-too-pleasant geranium and rose with a strong patchouli in the base. Not a huge fan tbh...

May 2021 I have had a chance to give this odd fragrance a wear test and here is what i have to say (wear test on my skin from a full size spray bottle during chilly April days): The opening of this fragrance is what i like the most: it is juicy, exciting, happy.... Red berries, black currant, grapefruit... thses notes are all there and i like them, but then there is some type of very synthetic note like a lacquer note which might be a combo of Geranium, Rose and Patchouli..... those are very strange and even unpleasant notes in this particular perfume in particular combination that i cannot stand. the longer you wear it, the stronger patchouli/geranium combo is getting and is getting overbearing. all the ingredients are sem to be of a high quality, composition is promising, yet i cannot enjoy wearing it.... The weird thing is that i sort of enjoyed yet hated this fragrance at the same time... But in the end this is the type of fragrance for me that i woul have as a posession, cause the packaging and notes are cute, but i would never wear it.... Sillage and lasting powers are very good ones, on clothes this fragrance lasts for several days even. But sadly it is a no go for me. I might still get a small vial from their official web site as a secret posession as a reminder of this unusual scent. THis is strictly a cold time of the year fragrance for me.

Doesn’t smell bad, but it smells linear, boring, cheap, teenage fragrance from the drugstore... sorry to offend but buyers beware, do not blind buy... Also the entire Fath line has very poor sillage and longevity...

This scent is definitely not for me. My mother accidentally oversprayed it. So I had the opportunity to smell it every second all day long. Maybe the problem is me. This perfume = rose-scented smoothie. It feels like you're trying to drink a chunky smoothie made of banana, cacao, kiwi and orange. I find many of the scents that Cécile is behind very impressive. Epic Woman, Stairway to Heaven💙, Curacao Bay, Vers Le Sud, Ani. All of these appealed to me. Maybe I don't like red shoes.

To the girl who wrote this is more white sneakers: baby, Red shoes is a fairy tale wrote by H.C.Andersen. It is about a little girl who was obssesed with red shoes and tricked her caregiver to buy them for her, wore them to church (this was scandalous) and long story short - they were cursed- who ever put them on their feet can’t stop dancing and she was damned to go to the doors of the people who had kids who were full of vanity and superficial eventually executioner cuts off her feet and when she fully understands her sins, angel comes and forgives her, her heart breaks how full of love was and she dies. Anyways, the object of the red shoe was her desire that taught her that vanity is wrong and beauty is only skin deep.

Red Shoes is fresh, fruity, sexy, sophisticated, silky, elegant and everything you can imagine when you see that picture of the lady dressed in that beautiful red gown. It opens up very fruity. Imagine you crushed berries + black currant together. That’s what you get for a long time and when that lingers in the air, it definitely turns some heads. Then there is this sparkling zing that comes from ginger & pink pepper mixed very well with the freshness of citrus/grapefruit. I do get some rose in the back in it but it’s primarily berries that rule the scent. Dry down is as beautiful as the opening. It's a sensual musk that redefines sensuality & femininity. ⁣

A masterpiece created one in a million years. Smells like Hibiscus Tea & Aldehydes, stunning projection, iconic dry down. Truly beautiful and sexy unisex.
