Chypre 21

Chypre 21 Wow, I don't except to meet some perfume like this. It kind of Chic, Old and New at the same time. Yet It's modern fragrance but also unique stucture as well. After the initial Bergamot opening you cannot mistake it except Old Chypre, later on introduce kind of modern lazor sharp metallic fragrance structure. It's dimensional. When a Safranal / Safforn Oil metallic provide. Strong Modern Chypre Barbershop Body. It as the same time. build the leathery accord. So it kind of build the metalic edge Modern Woody (TomFord Grey Vetiver EDP) and that Old Chypre. The body, apart from Neroli feel and combination of modern moss and old moss. Slight Thin Touch of Labdanum stucture builds that body heart for the fragrance. I believe in this Metalic heart, have slight touch of Affifical civet feceal Ylang-Ylang. Just a touch along with Geranium. To build Chypre feel for a fragrance. It reach a crisp musk that recall in LeMale but support of geranium, ylang and safforn You can't mistake this for anything non-chypre-estique. It kind of je-ne-sais-quoi. I mean you can ignore it's identity. Like you come acorss the chypre fragrance you can ignore how good it is. This is so chic. It's timelss - stan aginist time It's kind of BART - XCX. Let's go 360. I love this.

Perfection! This is what I call a universal modern chypre. On the plus side it does not hit you across the face with a pinetree/juniper branch and bitterness. This one is soft, smooth, ever so slightly sweet and provides a gourgeous, comforting fresh out of the shower feeling for at least 4 hours. Ideal for confined spaces like cars and small offices. The projection is moderate. That being said, whenever I know that the day ahead will be challenging or exausting, I always take a small vial of Chypre 21 with me and apply a tiny spray very close to the back of my hand and quickly dab it on to the other hand,- that is all I need to feel refreshed and collected for several hours. After that, as an utimate drydown, the composition calms down to the most lovely fresh vanilla orchid scent. Definetely a FB keeper. Tested on so called cold skin.

Elegant modern chypre Quintessentially unisex, the composition seems inhabited by several genders at once. Its opening is luminous and fleeting, shaped as much by the dry green clarity of petit grain as by citrus brightness, a pleasure intensified by its brevity rather than diminished by it. Beneath this brightness, the accord reveals a layered and finely calibrated structure whose evolving balance makes it quietly addictive to revisit. Rose transparency and a softened mossy base keep the classical chypre framework light, fluid, and distinctly contemporary. As it settles, the structure remains light and poised, offering a modern chypre that preserves the genre’s elegance without its traditional weight.

Like all Heeley fragrances, this one is beautiful, balanced, and well constructed. Like an impeccably dressed woman, stopping by on her way to somewhere else. I add the latter bit because, like so many of Heeley's fragrances (Sel Marin excluded), the longevity is just not there for me. I'd hoped that with the oak moss anchor this one would have a bit more staying power, but alas, it does not. It has the lightest touch of any musk/oakmoss combo I've experienced, and that is a good thing. The rosemary adds a sparkle. So, admire this one for the fleeting moment when she's in your senses, and think fondly of her after she's gone, all too soon.

It's starts off like it was the baby of "Bandit". Then the cooler, watery notes, mostly violet with a leathery saffron-aspect, settle. I think I like it a lot. No aldehydes, no oakmoss-fiesta, but though complex and interesting. Now, I have, next to Bandit and Rue Cambon 31, a third contender in this genre on the wishlist. Argh.

So it doesn’t last forever. Big deal! (@pgs This is a general comment and not a response to your review.) Wouldn’t it be boring if all perfumes lasted 24hrs? I will never wear Chypre 21 to work, and that is ok! Instead I’m looking forward to every occasion for it with great anticipation.

Chypre 21 is a long lasting, in my experience, juicy chypre. The citruses are strong and effervescent with the sparkly nature from the oakmoss. It's not quite like an chypre I've ever tried, but it definitely is one. Oddly fantastic layered with 1932 from Chanel.

I tentatively cite chypres as my favourite scent family, and as an admirer of this house, I was keen to try Chypre 21. Billed as a modern chypre, and featuring traditional chypre notes of bergamot, oakmoss and leather (by way of saffron), I expected it to smell a certain way. However, it has taken me by surprise. C21 is an unusual, slightly challenging scent that certainly takes inspiration from classic chypres of the past while being idiosyncratic. C21 opens with a citrus-herbal accord with some spice - aromatic but somewhat cluttered. The saffron note is surprisingly prominent, its earthy, warm spiciness becoming increasingly leathery as it develops. It is an ingenious substitute for the more typical labdanum that traditionally forms the leather accord in classic chypres. Smooth, green-tinged violet follows, melding beautifully with the saffron to form a smooth violet-leather accord, one I'm partial to. The mossy chypre base underscores this scent from the early stages, tying it all together. However, it is much smoother than in old-style chypres, definitely leaning into its modern chypre inspiration by making use of synthesised alternatives to oakmoss. I enjoy the smoothness however - it is a fresh take on a chypre accord and doesn't smell artificial - ingeniously, the texture is the main difference. There is some muted rose in here too, reminiscent of rose-scented soap. It fits in, but C21 is far from being a rose chypre. It becomes clean and soapy as it progresses further, with soft woody notes and white musk creeping in. It is not animalic or mossy here - in fact it is almost sterile in its smoothness, the olfactory equivalent to clean lines. Sillage and longevity are moderate, and it is perfectly unisex in my opinion. It is a transeasonal day scent, perhaps best worn in warmer weather. Refined and polished, C21 is not the forest-y, old-school chypre of yore, but is its own thing, and is utterly compelling as a result. Olfactory art that manages to be wearable and pleasant, the creativity pays off. A modern chypre indeed. 4/5.

Wearing this for the second time now and I'm still a little confused, since I don't smell anything like what is suggested by the note pyramid here on Fragrantica (especially the user-driven one on the right). I don't get the saffron, except maybe very faintly as a textural effect, something a little suede-like in the background. And perhaps I don't know what oakmoss smells like, but I certainly don't pick up on much mossy-ness in this. Patchouli, yes perhaps, but the clean, airy kind, like the patchouli found in Dior's Gris Montaigne/Gris Dior. In fact, Chypre 21 does give off a similar vibe to Gris Dior to me. A breezy, clean, faintly floral aroma which I imagine you might find in a high-class Swiss spa resort, wafting through the corridors as the well-heeled clientele receives their aromatherapy massages and mountain herb-infused face scrubs. I'm actually quite a fan of this style of perfume, and I like both Gris Dior (of which I own a bottle, to be used on days when I want to smell feminine yet crisp and professional and unlikely to offend anyone), and Chypre 21. I should perhaps add that they don't smell all that similar when studied up close. Gris Dior is more rose-forward and a little greener, whereas in Chypre 21 I get mostly violet and some clean, soapy musk - which actually enhances the clean, swiss mountain spa feel. In fact, perhaps Chypre 21 smells a bit too much like something you might smell in a fancy spa hotel, and not quite enough like a perfume. It might just be me but at times it smells a bit like an expensive room fragrance, intended to smell like "fresh spring air" or something like that. Which is not necessarily a bad thing, but for me it is perhaps not quite perfumey enough.

Yes, as lisa o says, this indeed opens as baby Bandit - I smell leather although it's not listed. Bergamot, rosemary and violet dominate the opening along with the mysterious non-leather leather I'm smelling. Ah, it could be saffron. After opening my pantry's spice box and inhaling a deep whiff of saffron to find out, I am sure that's what it is. I could definitely handle smelling like this herbaceous, slightly incensed (yes, incensed, I think it's the patchouli with rosemary and violet that lends that vibe to this composition perhaps?) and wood spiced perfume. Wore it out to a fair today and kept getting gentle, reassuring wafts of it. I agree with other reviewers here that longevity isn't great, gone fairly quickly but if you love violets, this is worth a try, it's rather gorgeous.

This is a really nice modern masculine chypre—nothing sour about it and has a ghostly dusty feel. I'm not big on chypres but this I can wear; unfortunately just as I was about to settle on it, I discovered it becomes REALLY weak after a short time.

Heeley’s Chypre 21 is a modernized tribute to the timeless chypre genre I believe is worth checking out. It has its flaws, but those don’t undermine the fact that is a versatile fragrance you might like. The departure from traditional chypre fragrances might be disconcerting, but keep in mind that the newcomers will appreciate the modern twist that sets it apart from the classics. TOP NOTES This fragrance’s opening provides a compelling introduction that sets the stage for the olfactory voyage that follows ahead. A harmonic blend of fresh, floral, and spicy notes meets the senses upon application, providing a distinctive first impression. To my nose, the opening smells fresh, clean, rubbery, and quite safe for a fragrance named after “chypre”. This is thanks to the straight out of the 60’s fantastic bergamot which is infused with a vibrant and energetic aura provided by clean petit grain, and rubbery saffron. HEART NOTES As the fragrance progresses beyond its invigorating opening, the delightful bergamot and alluring saffron gradually dissipate. It would have been preferable for the saffron note to possess more intensity, perhaps combined with leather to provide an additional boost to the composition and make things more interesting. The heart notes of this fragrance unveil a different narrative, featuring a rose that, to be frank, lacks the three-dimensional quality found in fragrances like Zaharoff Signature Rose. BASE NOTES As the fragrance undergoes its dry-down phase, a distinct transition takes place, unveiling an unexpected and intriguing character. During this stage, the sea salt accord becomes more prominent, even though it is not explicitly mentioned in the official note list. Its presence adds a unique coastal and green vibe to the composition. Accompanying the sea salt accord, subtle nuances emerge, including woody patchouli and comforting musk. OVERALL While this scent may not appeal to those seeking a strictly traditional chypre experience from the past, its uniqueness in the form of additional saffron and sea notes makes it an intriguing option for hobbyists looking for a contemporary take on a once popular fragrance theme. Just got this one a couple of days ago in a swap so here are my first impressions. Chypree 21 by Heeley is a modern take on the fragrance genre that suffered the most with all the ingredient bans during the last decade. What makes this one different than old school chyprees from the past is the inclusion of saffron, sea salt, and citrus opening. I wouldn't say that this one is anywhere near the status of holy grail, but would serve as a great introduction into this great fragrance family. The longevity is okay, and the quality of ingredients is alright, I guess. I have to say that it would make a great day fragrance in spring and summer when you wanna feel confident, and relaxed at the same time. I wanted to love it. I really like Heeley overall, and find that their scents "click" with me. There's something about this one I feel I don't understand - a missing link. The opening is very sour and sharp - unusual. and normally I like that sort of thing. Not here. After that, the fragrance just does not develop on me. It kind of just becomes more muddled, and actually gives me a bit of a headache. My gut feel is that there are just a lot of potentially challenging/clashing ingredients here. You've got saffron. You've got violet leaves. You've got rose. You've got rosemary. You've got patchouli. You've got sandalwood. Oakmoss. That's a lot of very aromatic stuff! Again, love this house, but not every fragrance can be a love.

A friend gave me a sample and I am trying it for the second time... the first Time was a true miss for me (i am more into spicy ambery insence). Well the opening note that jumps at my nose : « burnt tire » which lasts for about 2 minutes. My review is actually a question : does anybody else smell a not-so-unpleaSant faint burnt tire smell

This starts out as a clean, modern-smelling chypre. Fresh, sparkly citrus and aldehydes mixed with a strong hit of 'new shoes' saffraleine. It has a polished crispness to it, and the hint of rosemary gives an agreeable masculine edge. Over time though, the floral elements pick up and it starts to devolve into a sharp, discordant fuzz that feels a bit rough on the nose. The oakmoss and violet leaf combination create a peculiar aquatic -dare I say "fishy"?- accord, that really makes my nose wrinkle. After 30 minutes on my skin, I smell like I've been handling fish and then tried to disguise it by spraying perfume. So it's a no from me :P

Heavens! Too strong for me. The name should read in caps. A big opening of oakmoss, violet leaf and saffron which I am not keen on. This eases off and the rose appears. I'm not sure about having rosemary in this and wish there was more softening musk. The bergamot is now present along with nose tingling neroli. You get the patch and wood notes coming through after a couple of hours. I suspect now that my skin really amplifies the violet leaf. If you love chypres then you should be happy as it's correctly named. Good silage and moderate longevity.

Not really happy with this one. Feels a bit old fashioned to me and not in a very good way. It is a lemony oakmoss - the longevity is about 4 hours, which is ok. It stays very linear with little to none development, I agree that it just become a bit "dusty" in its dry down. Not sure if it is a full bottle worthy one, test it before you buy it. It is a pass for me. *This review was written after several full wearings of the perfume and not just after smelling this on paper or on wrist.

عطر تشيبر 21 من جيمس هيلي للنساء والرجال Chypre 21 James Heeley for women and men العطر هو من أحدث عطور دار جيمس هيلي فقد أصدر عام 2015م العطر من اسمه يحمل تصنيفه "تشيبر" فحتما سيكون طحلب السنديان هو صاحب النصيب الأكبر ضمن مكونات العطر ربما يحمل هذا المكون على الشعور بنوع من القتامة أو الكلاسيكية الشديدة وربما تصل بالبعض لحد النفور. وأكاد أجزم أن عطر تشيبر 21 لن يكون بهذا الشكل الكلاسيكي كما هو مرتكز في أذهان البعض فوجود السافرون والمسك كمكونان بودريان ناعمان يتمتعان بنفاذية واضحة سيكون شيئا جديدا يلحق بالمكون التشيبري الكلاسيكي "السنديان" البرجموت سيكون صاحب السبق في الشعور بالانتعاش والإحساس بالنظافة مع أول استنشاق للعطر وبإضافة النيرولي والورود للبرجموت في البداية فالعطر بهذا الشكل سيكون صيفيا بشكل كبير بل إنني أراه أفضل عطور هيلي الصيفية وهذا لأنني أحمل تقييما سيئا لعطر هيلي الصيفي الشهير "سيل مارين" الذي أراه كئيبا :( أخشاب الصندل -ولله الحمد- مكون ليس كثيفا وإلا كان كافيا لتعتيم العطر وجعله عطرا عديم الهوية وعلى النقيض كان اختيار زهرة الفيوليت "البنفسج" موفقا لأنها ستكون داعما ممتازا للسنديان للسيطرة على بودرية المسك والزعفران "السافرون" قد يميل العطر -من وجهة نظري- للإستخدام الرجالي مع احتفاظه بالملائمة للجنسين واهم ما يميز العطر أنه سيكون دعوة مناسبة لمن لا يستسيغون عطور الثمانينات لكلاسيكيتها المفرطة فهو بمثابة همزة وصل بين الكلاسيكية والحداثة لعطور التشيبر الرائعة

I have worn this from a tester four times now. I LOVE the way it starts. It starts fresh and with citrus but well-balanced by some woodiness/musk (perhaps that is the rosemary) and also some unique floral: perfect! Not too sweet; not too one-note musky; with that well-balanced citrus/freshness I crave. But then, within 20-30min, it seems to turn into something that to me seems overly make-upy, old-fashioned, and powdery. It makes me sad, because I love it so much at first and it is moderately long-lasting. Does anyone have a recommendation for a perfume that continues to smell like the opening of Chypre 21?? One thing I've been playing with is combining chypre 21 with a little of Jo Malone's "Wood Sage and Sea Salt" perfume (which I also really like but doesn't last long enough) and that seems to help.

Well well... a very nice blend. A soapy rose with a hint of saffron and mild lime. The oakmoss also plays a hard time on top of them all. Well blended & nicely done. Edit (17th Oct 2018) The cool down is a dominant oakmoss, vetiver, and very violet leaves. The clean musk is very soapy. i don't think it's a good blend when it cools down. It's just too much clean and too much sourness happening in here. Edit (26th Sept 2019) I do sense Heeley's stamp in here! it's like a combination of some of his work already! I like how calming and sexy this blend is with it's vetiver kept at minimal, beside the oakmoss, and the violet leaves. It just reminds me when i first meet him and purchased "Esprit du Tigre" & "Cuir Pleine Fleur" and i believe it was 20122013. Quite impressive.

Worth a try 100% if traditional perfumery is your lane; it reminds me of several great scents of past eras (its all here: sweet, dusty vibe of Bel Ami, soapy violets of Fahrenheit and so much more) while not being a throwback on any specific one of them; it firmly stands its own ground interpreting "the classics" in a slightly fresher, sweeter, more effortless, contemporary and versatile "colonge-esque" way, - very much James Heeley. Longevity and sillage are just fine imho. I can only say its a very good release: noticeable, traditional yet unique, and conveys good taste.

I can echo the reviewer below, it does have a burnt tire aroma. I would attribute this to the saffron and leather. It’s a bit piercing. You would find most success with this by applying VERY sparingly. Even then I don’t believe this would be office safe. It smells like something Le Labo would have in their line. I could see this being worn by the manager of a chic millenial-targeted boutique in Brooklyn. Only in that environment would this be a safe wear imo.

Well executed, honest and real but boring. Very linear to my nose. Could be anything. Non recognisable. Normally i really like most of J. Heeleys frags. because of their own identity. This one, meh. I looked forward to this one, cause i looooove a good chypre with a little extra. (If this one is also too safe and prude for you, try Chypre from Franck Bocklet. It made me dazzle!! :-))

Well balanced perfume as others mentioned and not too bad, just not "unique" enough for me at least. I can appreciate the citrus at the top, with lavender and violet,it also has a touch of animal musk that gives it a slightly dirty side. I feel like there's vetiver there although I can't find it in the notes. All in all, a good safe perfume that can be worn by either sex.

I find similarities to Dior Eau Sauvage (the old version). From its ten notes, Heleey Chypre 21 has six notes in common with ES. Though the 2012 new version of Eau Sauvage has been constructed on another bases, I find Heleey Chypre 21 similar to the new version of ES as well.

James Heeley has nice fresh fragrances, but this one I do not like it very much. The zaffron smell does not match well in this one. I bought a sample from Heeley's webpage but I would not buy a full bottle of this.

Intresting how in the "this perfume reminds me of" section there's nothing! It must be a very unique scent despite its vintage vibe!
