Verveine D'Eugène

Verbena is such an underrated note, or underrated by me in any case: I always tend to forget it exists until a sample of a scent that puts the note to good use falls into my hands, and I fall head over heels in love with it. I had my first inkling of this with Yves Rocher's wonderfully refreshing Verveine, which I like a lot for summer, and which has one of the best price/quality ratios I've ever encountered. And then it happened "for real" with Miller & Bertaud's "Green, Green, Green and... Green", which has a richer, more complex, dark green verbena accord at its heart: it became an instant favourite the moment I first smelled it, and I've reached for it often ever since (a rare thing for me with my large (decant) collection of beloved scents!). I do a lot of sampling, and I like most of what I test and frequently add to my (decant) wish list, but this kind of "coup de coeur" where I instantly feel like a scent is "one of mine" doesn't happen very often, and it's always such a thrill when it does. Verveine d'Eugène is definitely one of those, and I just know I'll end up with a big bottle of it one day soon. It's like a light green version of Miller & Bertaud's scent, with the same high quality verbena note front and center, but on a background of wonderfully sweet and sour fruits: tart rhubarb and juicy lime and a cassis note that's sharp enough to be noticeable but not enough to throw the composition off balance (as I find it sometimes does, for instance in L'Occitane's Herbae, which is why I don't think this mellow, benign cloud of a fragrance smells anything like that prickly one). The spices add some depth, but they stay politely in a supporting role in the background, where I like them. All in all the effect is incredibly well-balanced and, at least to my nose, kind of intoxicating. I have a 5 ml decant that's already disappearing fast a week after I received it, and I can't imagine spending a summer without it in my collection from now on. Instant favourite!

Immediate love for me! It's not overly complex as a scent but I've been looking for something like this for the longest time. The verbena, cardamon, rubharb and musk are beautifully blended with a warm, juicy blackcurrant berry in the front. Sophisticated and quite glamorous without leaning too sweet or resorting to a scratchy, too dry overdose of petitgrain. I wore Cacharels Amor Amor as a teenager and this reminds me of a more luxurious upgrade. I will be getting a larger bottle! I'd like to try layering this with some rose scents in the Summer.

I usually don't like verbena, since it reminds me of all the massage salongs in Thailand. Verbena is nice, but usually becomes too toilet-based refreshener. Verneine d'Eugene is a tart rhubarb, backed up by lemon verbena,. lime and brackcurrant. So edible, but fresh and sparkly. A fresh summer fragrance. Needless to say, a Beautiful addition to my mollection. I doubt I could justify a FB, but I will definitely finish my 10ml decant. Worth of trying and blind bying if you like citruses and "Clean", "Greens" scents.

A rhubarb-centric fragrance, kept fresh and unisex by a noticeable support of citruses and verbena (the latter is not the main player, though). Strongly reminded me of the original AdV and Buxton’s Devil in Disguise (but Heeley’s is a bit more masculine than Buxton’s). Performance is moderate. Currently marketed as ‘Verveine d’Eugene’, it’s a worthwhile addition for who is looking for a fruity but non sweet fragrance for warmer days. Very well blended, I strongly recommend it.

update on the skin there is a bitter wonderful note;very wearable Interesting without be aggressive Very pleasant verbena, fresh humid and brilliant also very green and vegetal I can detect blackcurrant,blackberry or what it is. personally it remember me a cup of fruit tea with lemon You have to like lemon verbena accord gently and polish. I think that idea behind heeley scents is express "clarity". certainly better then Terre de Bois,citron citron.. my cup of Tea 8/10

It opens with this sharp squeeze of lemon, really green and zesty, like the smell on your hands after peeling one. There’s a bright, leafy greenness running through it, balanced by a soft, clean floral note that keeps it from feeling too sharp. After a while it dries down a bit, almost like lemongrass tea. It feels calm, fresh and radiant, and for something so light, it lasts surprisingly well.

Upon first spray, I know this is something made for me, I’m also testing Verveine d'Eugène, and what I immediately notice is this has the most realistic rhubarb note I have ever experienced. This is also a wonderful verbena scent, with citrus and light spices that’s more pronounced in the dry down. Verveine d'Eugène is a little sweet and a lot of sour, and another Heeley that I love.

good summer scent, I love the opening to the dry down, I wish it had more staying power and a better performance, but I enjoy it while it last.

Verveine D'Eugene by James Heeley: Citrusy and fresh, slightly feminine off the top. The lemon is smooth and works well with the bergamot and the rhubarb and blackcurrant give it a really nice sparkle or fizz. I don't really pick up on any cardamom which I don't mind because sometimes in these kinds of scents it can throw them a little off-course. This definitely suits women more as a really nice warm weather scent but I could see a guy making it work on the right day. As is with most citrus/blackcurrant scents the shadow of Aventus looms over it but this has nothing to do with that DNA at all. This is delicate and smooth and does its own thing with okay performance too in the heat. The drydown is a simple musk but it doesn't need to be much else since the earlier notes linger. A great fragrance, not one I would wear but one I would love to smell on a lady. Notes: Lemon verbena, blackcurrant, bergamot, rhubarb, musk 4.5/5

Reviewing Verveine d'Eugène: Weirdly enough in the opening I get a strong burst of blackcurrant and rhubarb. They become then enveloped in a sort of tomato leaf accord, which gives this fragrance a leafy quality. I don't sense any bergamot or citruses, but that doesn't make me dislike this creation. In fact it's a new sort of freshness that could lean on the traditionally feminine side if you consider jasmine and musk to be inherently feminine (spoiler: they're not). All in all it's rather pleasant; could be quite linear and thus overpriced for those of you looking for something more daring.

For reference, my bottle is labelled as Verveine d’Eugene. This opens with a fresh blast of zesty bergamot, supported by verbena which soon becomes the main note. The blend of verbena and bergamot is really nice and well done here. This remains me of l'occitane products a little, just like a luxurious spa and definitely not kind of toilet cleaner scent. Will be great for a spring/summer day - full bottle worthy.

This is a beautifully balanced fragrance! Easy to wear and fresh. I like the fresh, slightly tart note and a hint of allspice (not cardamom, as stated in the fragrance composition). I’ve tried many similar scents in search of the perfect light, fresh citrus fragrance; while this isn't a citrus scent, it is definitely a favorite that stands the test of time.

This is a different sort of citrus. Definitely get the burst of lemon that is sweetened by black currant and made a touch tart by rhubarb. The cardamom comes across like carrot seed to my nose, earthy and dry. I want to like this but every time I sniff my wrist I get a vision of Bugs Bunny in a lemon grove eating a carrot. LOL! What's up, Doc?

A verbena perfume, perfect for summer. Very fresh & natural, 100% unisex, the sillage and longevity are moderate. It is not a complex scent, but I really appreciate it. Easy to wear, compatible with an open space. The problem? The cost of this perfume... Too expensive. 8/10

I bought Sel Marin and ordered over 10+ samples of other Heeley Fragrances and this one is one of my favorite. The cirtrus notes are very predominant and well balanced, the smell that last longer is quite nice. I would buy a full bottle of this.

I love the scent of lemon verbena on its own, and this is a pure encapsulation of that scent (I get none of the other notes), but maybe I don't want it to be the star of the show? This is extremely fresh and tart, which I normally would love. But there is something astringent about the overall scent that keeps me from being fully into it. It feels almost unfinished, like someone mixed together a bunch of top notes then called it a day. I do think this works excellently as a layering tool. It gives anything an extra punch of tartness without overpowering. On its own, the longevity is barely two hours, but when layered it sticks around longer.

This review is for Verveine d'Eugene. It smells like a fresh iced tea. Which is nice in a glass on a summer's day, but maybe not on my body. There's something very sweet and ever so slightly chemical in it (the blackcurrant/rhubarb?), but the moment it starts to smell chemichal there is some smell of a very fresh tea (probably the verveine) stopping that chemical smell. If you're into fresh iced tea so much that you'd like to have a fragrance of it and smell it all day, then this is your thing. Would say this is on the female side (I am male) because of the sweet blackcurrant. Will perhaps update if the scent will change dramatically.

I'm a lover of citrus normally, but this one really didn't do it for me. The opening was too sharp (I know, it's citrus, but still) and it was even a bit sour somehow. And then after the zesty zing opening it became more flat and almost a bit muddy. Honestly, with these notes, this SHOULD make me happy. But no. The only think I can think of is that lemon verbena is just a diffferent animal in the citrus category--as I'm much more accustomed to bergamot, orange, grapefruit.

My review is for Vervene d'Eugene. I can't find it among the James Heeley perfumes and I know that Vervene doesn't exist (any more?). This is a beautiful fragrance - fresh and clean, a tiny bit sweet. But it dries down to something synthetic and disappears in literally 10 minutes. I had a 1.7 oz that lasted me 3-4 weeks! Usually that size lasts me at least 3 months of every day use.

I normally quite like citrus scents, and love astringent ones. But this one is not my cup of tea. Very linear, boring, and (to me) uncharming. It's not fresh or clean, not uplifting or brightening. Verveine d'Eugène is like an abrasive personality; being direct can be a good thing, but it needs to be combined with charm.

I am afraid this is not going to sound an appraise of a review. My impression is that here you get a strong anti-mosquito thing, either those candles for the garden or the spray for the skin. Yes, it reminds of Jardins en Mediteranee but less complex, it's just too simple a scent this one. I am sorry, not good for me.

What a stunning scent! Bright, fresh, totally unisex, pleasant zesty goodness. Sure, not a beast mode fragrance, but I enjoy those sometimes more than a fragrance that just projects nonstop. Not everyone wants to smell an incredibly strong fragrance. I don’t mind spraying this every four or five hours either because the opening offers such a refreshing blast of total nose porn! Then it dries down into just a refreshing bliss that makes me continuously want to keep smelling my wrist. IMO: totally wearable for any and all occasions including I think this would be a fantastic work scent partially because it’s not too incredibly strong which to me is a good thing. Also with that said, most “freshie” scents usually fade away to the point that I can’t even smell it on the spot I sprayed it... this is not the case with this fragrance. I sprayed this on at 9am this morning on my wrist. It’s now 7:21pm and I can still smell it on my wrist. That’s pretty awesome! Beast mode? No, but whatever. It’s a great offering and kudos to the perfumer. Nothing synthetic to me. Just a well balanced all around great bottle of juice! I’d buy a full bottle if I didn’t already just purchase one! Regardless, it’s going on my want list

This is just like the dark, leafy green plants you find at the garden centres. Like leafy-green medicinal plants. It's too green for me- and bitter! But there's a natural blacberry note in there that's fantastic. I wished they had focused on this more and maybe developed it with the florals. It probably would've been a little too feminine then, maybe they would have had that in mind somewhere. But sadly the bitter greens are off-putting and ultimately crashes the scent for me. I guess I just don't like tomato leaves. I only don't give it a 1/5 because it has niche quality that almost makes it bearable. It's a very powerful scent, so watch out when applying! It's certainly not a dominant 'citrus' I think from the top of this page (the scent-guide), but certainly huge on the greens. It's eventually a little sweet (from the blackberry) that contrasts a lot with the bitter-greens, very challenging scent, and certainly not a 'safe' one. Always try 1st! 2/5.

The overall aura of this fragrance has a heavier fresh shampoo quality about it. The top is heavy with lemon with some tartness from the rhubarb and the beautiful freshness of verbena. It is also a touch salty in the top as well. As the scent dries down more of the sweetness from the rhubarb comes out and I love it at this point. There is also a funky characteristic going on in the top, I think must be the black currant. When this fragrance finally dries down it's gets slightly creamy with a gentle jasmine and white musk. The jasmine is not dominant, if it were I would hate it. I think of this fragrance as unisex but have a feeling ladies would love this more than men. For me this is just OK.

Very light and at the same time extremely sophisticated/refined as only a bunch of light fragrances can be (Bel Respiro, Jardins De Kerylos and very few others). Bitter tomato leaf and lemony verbena start the fragrance with a surprising (read challenging) effect to then evolve into a clean musky drydown that's incredibly enjoyable for its perfect combination between top quality ingredients and refinements. Not groundbreaking but still highly recommended to anyone into lighter/fresher, close to the skin, compositions. Downside: weak lastin power. Rating: 7/10

Not the biggest fan of this one I'm afraid. This is not to say that it's a bad perfume, just one that leaves me a little indifferent. The opening is striking simply because it has a citronellol overdose. While I love a bright, citrusy note, Verveine goes over the top and reminds me of some lemon and honey lozenges - basically artificial. It's got an impressive structure and good lasting power for a citrus perfume, but as I said - over the top opening and an indifferent heart and base.

Currently named Heeley Verveine d'Eugene, after Napoleon's brother, who is said to have worn this two hundred years ago. It is a cheerful, energizing linear scent, a sweet and sour sparkling citrus with excellent longevity. Verveine reminds me of a lemon martini with a sugared rim on the glass. L'heure de Proust by Bains de Guerbois is the transient sweet grapefruit companion to this one on my shelf, if only it had Verveine's great lasting power. An excellent warm weather scent.

To Henrique : I'm a fan of Un Jardin en Méditerranée too, it's one of my "loves at first sniff", but I don't really see in what Heeley's Verveine would be similar to it. Verveine is far more aromatic and citrus based, close to a liqueur. Like you, I prefere the Jardin and its wonderful sunny and smiling aquarelle. But Verveine, with its simpliciy, modesty and yet its originality, is very beautiful too, in a different way, as far as I feel.

Interesting summer fragrance. It feels aquatic, fruity and herbal - definitely different, never came across composition like this before. Not too sweet, little tart and sour thanks to black currant and citrus, watery - because of rhubarb. I smell the most some vegie-green notes, which I am not a fan of in general, but they are very aromatic and pleasant anyway. So, casual, summery, country-inspired splash!

Lovely crisp black currant leaves, lemon verbena and green notes. The blend with cardamom makes this fragrance so appealing. Not a multi layered fragrance since the projection is more linear. The fragrance gives you a bright, happy, uplifting vibe. I often get disappointed of Heeley`s longevity, but I get the feeling that this fragrance last longer that pairs like Sel Marine and Menthe Fraiche.

This perfume reminds me of open salty ocean waters and mossy creeks at the same exact time. Opens up with a very invigorating, slightly minty citrus, which then dries to a close to the skin warm smooth and musky scent. A very safe fragrance, and very natural smelling!

It's not bad...but it's really sweet for what it is (that's possibly the blackcurrant note). I was expecting something more green. Doesn't wow me, but it's ok. 3/5

Lovely. Rhubarb, sour, earthy, fruity. Blackcurrant & jasmine really beautiful as a base. Would be a great scent but absolutely 0 projection
