Dinudisit

Dinudisit Tl;dr: a radiant, sparkling narcissus I tend to think of the perfumes I love as conjuring objects, natural or artificial. With an effective floral, I’m habitually after the vivid impression of a single flower, as with the prismatic rose of the masterful Jean Patou Joy. Dinudisit offers a different, equally arresting experience of flowers (in this case, narcissus). When I spray Dinudisit, I am less offered up a single narcissus or even a bouquet than granted access to a seaside landscape peopled by the nodding heads of narcissus. I can’t overstate how spacious and airy this fragrance is, not at all faint or vague but like the glass square of JSP’s beautiful bottle were a window opening onto such a perfumed landscape. I have to think specifically of a graveyard I once visited on California’s Mendocino Coast. Above the rugged shoreline a strip of coastal prairie is perched, too windswept for woody plants, but wonderful for growing many flowers. This graveyard was squeezed on this tiny strip of prairie between the coast highway and the cliffs, and some introduced narcissi had naturalized, growing haphazardly in clumps over the graves and even spreading beyond the fence. This is the prodigal of narcissus that is the star of Dinudisit. The scent opens with a splash of salty aldehydes. There is a real sense of motion, salt spray born of sparkling waves. Bergamot is a golden light shining on the haze of the spray. As for the rue: a certain friend of mine used to grow rue to stir into his coffee. He would drag it in a circle around the edge of his mug a few times before taking it out (rue is, after all, poisonous). This imparted a certain difficult to describe but unmistakable bright herbal flavor to the coffee. I can’t smell rue specifically but there is a definite brightness to the opening that rue might be involved in. Almost immediately, the mists part to reveal a field of narcissus, buffeted by winds that bring their fragrance to you. You’re not sticking my nose in a bouquet of narcissus, yet you can pick out many nuances of their scent: its brightness, its soft sweetness, it’s slight carnal funk. More than battling with the narcissus, the other notes help to flesh out the sketch. Oakmoss brings greenness; Jasmine creaminess; the beeswax, well, waxiness; the caramel and celery seed together bring a kind of sweaty sweetness that anyone who adores narcissus as I do must own up to loving. There’s not a strong progression with Dinudisit, but it isn’t boring. My wrists keep throwing up different aspects of these initial impressions for hours and hours... even surviving showers and changes of clothes. Love. Decidedly a favorite.

going through the JSP sample kit i bought last year (in fact, i bought it again!), and even now, looking at my review from june 2019 i agree almost entirely with what i wrote, even though i probably like this even more now... this week, i've been working from home, self-isolating etc, so i've dug out some scents i had not given enough time to. apoteker tepe early on in the week, and now it's the january scent project's time. it's a wonderful clean, crisp and multi-faceted scent. there is sooo much going on. the aldehydes are done RIGHT. and i mean RIGHT. usually, with aldehydes, they are either waxy, fatty, airy, wispy or totally chemically. these ones are done RIGHT. years ago, i bought about 8 or so different aldehydes from perfumer's apprentice, and they were all so different. totally artificial smelling, true, but in and of themselves, unworkable. at least to me. sorta like smelling belachan/trasi, yeah, it's a unique smell and yeah, it's a smell worth banking in your own scent repository, but could it possibly be used in perfumery? here, it is done amazingly well... the best parts of aldehydes meet and bond with the best parts of white floral and resins. i was thinking of getting a few of the 30 ml bottles as a pack (3 for $160), but, i find myself 4 through the catalogue with 4 left and i'm worried i'm gonna like/love even more. "i guess that's what you call a 'good problem'...", Partlow, C., (2006), Marlo Stanfield Organisation, Wire (The)...

I've just received the JSP sample set and I'm blown away by these perfumes. As a whole, the quality and uniqueness immediately puts me in mind of Strangelove (not to mention the style of one or two of them). I'm in love, it's a coup de foudre. This one, on card, made me recoil a bit, as I was getting a sort of fishy skank, but it just goes to show how different a scent can be on skin, as now I'm wearing it, it's incredible. It's a sort of rooty, herby, aquatic narcissus, unlike anything I've ever smelt before. The celery seeds note is strong, and the perfume as a whole is very powerful, but it manages to retain a sheer elegance and natural allure that is making me smile and chuckle to myself. This is going to be a problem, as if they're all this good on the wear I'll have to get a second job....

This right here is a perfect example of why it is worth getting a whole discovery set rather than sampling a choice scent or two from a perfumer or house that creates unique offerings. I would never in a million years have chosen this sample. Looking at the notes I could not envision anything pleasant. I don't know how he did it, but he turned that crazy grouping into a unique and enjoyable perfume. I cannot put it into words so I won't even try- and there are already some really great reviews below. I'm just here to encourage those who look at the notes and wince to go ahead and give this one a chance! Performance is strong. It only takes me 2 sprays to enjoy this all day. Eternal on fabric. 2nd favorite JSP behind Burvuvu.

Strangely captivating, I keep thinking I have Dinudisit figured out until I realize I must put this in a new category: aquatic gourmand. The opening is a fizzy group of flowers sitting on a bed of sweet tarts, then morphing into the aquatic gourmand stage. The gourmand notes make me think of a North African restaurant, and I’m dining al fresco, while taking in the warmth of the Mediterranean Sea. John Biebel accomplished the impossible, making an unlikely grouping of notes wearable. I love it. ps: John you are a weirdo, and I love what you are creating in your January Scents project. My husband is super picky and dislikes many perfumes I adore, but he is also smitten with Dinudisit.

Reviews I’ve seen were polarizing, so I was scared of this blind buy, but wow it has grown on me more with every sniff. I do find it acquatic but NOT fishy! Yes, it’s much more of an oceanic marine than, say, a fragrance capturing ta freshwater spring, but nothing fishy at all (thank goodness!). In the opening the narcissus and rue stand strongly, before the celery seeds start to come through in the drydown, alongside a dose of jasmine and sea water. It combines into a slightly sweet deep sea Chypre if such a thing exists! Once fully dried down, the beeswax, oakmoss and amber keep the depth of the scent from becoming one-note, and I keep getting whiffs hours after spraying.

this is aldehydes done JUST right. no waxiness, no overly-artificial department store packaging box smell, it's JUST the right amount of artificial gloss in this scent. there's sweet femme white floral there too, as well as a lurking moist-vegetal element in the background, but by and large, this is REALLY well done, i would say... it's equal parts aromachem-sweet, white floral pretty and vegetal funk. a very interesting mix.

Dinudisit was launched just two months after Burvuvu's launch on September 2018. By now, you can notice that Indie Perfumery doesn't care much about “propitious moments”, but about the fact that the product is finished and ready to reach the audience. The creative concept speaks of sea flowers and the fragrance carries notes of bergamot, narcissus, rue, jasmine, caramel, celery seeds, marine accord, oakmoss, amber, beeswax, patchouli, and vetiver. No, you didn't read it wrong: rue and celery seeds indeed! Dinudisit is just another proof of the beautiful work done by John Biebel, who can unite the unusual with the intoxicating, creating something incredible in terms of smell. And this fragrance, perhaps the most luminous and daytime of all, shows that the marine surface receives the sunbeams, but it is deep down that predators hide. Once sprayed on the skin, the fragrance is floral, cheerful and narcotic. The rue gives a smell of still green and sour oranges. In addition, slightly sweet nuances of narcissus fuse with bergamot and make a good impression. But contrary to popular saying, the first impression is not always what stays. And Dinudisit shifts rapidly, changing from innocent to obscure. The body of the fragrance gets waxed, the floral side merges with the smoky, and a mixture of molasses with tobacco begins to emerge. Caramel and beeswax (which doesn't smell like honey) form a slightly sweet duo that just doesn't bother because of the marine accord. And the thicker base gains mossy and green facets, cutting off any uniquely feminine tendencies this fragrance might have. After the process happens and nothing else changes, Dinudisit keeps surprising. At some point the smell reminds me of something moist and slightly salty, like seaweed; in another, I smell sweet food baking and dripping on the hot plate of the oven. Still, I sometimes feel something more liqueur, like the smell of brandy, served in tobacconists. I confess that I would like if the happy exit could last longer, but perhaps it is something proper of the chemistry of my skin. In terms of projection, three sprays are enough for a lot of trace and more than eight hours of durability. The yellow liquid matches the fragrance in its early minutes, but deep in the soul, Dinudisit is an earthy, almost brown scent of a peculiar smell and treacherous spirit. I like very much!

This really is very different! For the first 5 to 8 minutes, all I can smell is the patchouli and a bit of vetiver. It just goes on and on. It starts to sweeten a bit, and there is bergamot and jasmine and just a notion of narcisuss, but still it’s overwhelming patchouli and some vetiver. Strong Oriental white floral. But I kept reading the notes and the reviews here, thinking where is the salt water? Where is the caramel? And that is when I start to pick up on the fizziness of the aldehydes, so I think, okay, there’s more. This is like 20 minutes in, so I see I’m on a trip here, and I can feel the aldehydes balanced against the beeswax, which I was convinced was nowhere near this scent, but now I know it’s there, and because I know the beeswax is there, I can also feel the honey. I can’t smell it yet, but I’m sure it’s near by. Nothing milky, but sweet and sticky and the color of this fragrance to me is honey and daffodils. And it’s about this time, over a half hour in, that I’m aware of an ocean breeze. This is not right at the water’s edge, to me. But the ocean isn’t so far away, and it’s a slightly salty, warm breeze. So yes, it’s a journey, this one. I have a feeling this will be on my clothes next spring if I put them in a drawer now. I would simply say, do not over spray.

JSP has done something real special here. This is an amazing piece of fragrance art, and I am surprised as to how well all these notes work together. On the opening spray you get this sharp aromatic green note (which I can only assume to be the rue), and it can come off as kind of negative to some, but it smooths over rather quickly when the bergamot and narcissus comes in. Then as it dries down even more it begins to take on this marine like scent. Not like the salt water of the ocean but rather a lake on a hot midwestern day. The lake surround by 100s of different wildflowers and smells of the various grasses around you. This is a super green aromatic scent, but I cannot speak to the longevity or silage of the scent yet as I have not worn it on myself yet. Love how different this scent is.

The combination of oak moss, celery seed, rue, patchouli and narcissus evoke crisp yet cold, wet and powdery bruised green leaves. This is herbal and aromatic in the way that Amouage Bracken Woman is (with that fern note), but it only has a dash of caramel and beeswax to sweeten it. I like that contrary to most perfumes, John lets us experience the full gamut of scent; bitter, sour, salty as well as sweet, although for my tastes some of the sweet/salty elements of jasmine and marine notes seem a bit overpowered by the assertive herbal element. So I happen to like Bracken Woman, and I really like this. Know that it's definitely a bit bizarre for a personal fragrance so if you're looking for an unusual perfume or just like to smell interesting aromas this is definitely worth a try.

This one is growing on me. I love the opening and do detect the seaweed, but it does blend in after a while and turns into something less offensive like a lake surrounded by dense greenery. A dark blue scent.

The opening is a bright floral citrus bomb. After a few minutes the marine accent dominates. So much so that it is unpleasant, like someone is holding your head down near a half dried pool of saltwater and moss on the rocks. Thankfully after 10 minutes it softens and it like someone’s holding your head down pinned to the rocks But the half dried rock pool is a few metres away and some one has placed a pile of caramel 50cm away, a dollop of honey 20cm away and a bit of celery nearby which occasionally wafts depending on the breeze. There’s now a tinge of darkness and depth thanks to a little oak moss and patchouli with the vetiver ever present giving a phenomal brightness. The floral notes I find disappear beyond the drydown. Technically well constructed but the marine aspect is unbalanced with the opposing sweetness and I find it awkward and confusing as my brain says it’s fresh but there’s the rotting seaweed and yet gourmand sweetness. I find ironically Bulgari Aqua Marine Toniq is similar yet much better despite its lack of performance. I’ll have to give this a rare “don’t like” vote but if you are passionate about marine scents you should give this a try. Please take into consideration that I have a pretty tolerant nose as you can see from my collection.

JSP’s blending of scent and sound is extremely fascinating to me, and I love how artistic and intentional the brand is. To me, JSP scents are more conceptual than wearable, so I review them as such. I would not say Dinudisit smells pleasant. On my skin, it’s an aquatic celery seed bomb. I was immediately reminded of Amouage’s Lineage, which churns my stomach. While Dinudisit is more bearable to me than Lineage, they share an aquatic, vegetal, and somewhat sweaty profile that I don’t enjoy. So would I buy this fragrance, personally? Definitely not, but I’m still excited to try the rest of JSP scents and really appreciate the spirit of the brand as a whole! I will say this scent is great quality. Lasts forever and has a strong sillage.

I got this hoping to find something beeswax dominant, what I experience is almost identical to an alcohol extraction of japanese incense sticks I once did, something kind of dusty and convoluted.

I'm going to eat my words. I sprayed it on my skin and it all made sense. Definitely still too floral for me but the full picture develops and the salty ocean notes start to come out. Still not fishy, just a very pleasant marine note. The caramel/amber is DEEP in there, you have to really inhale for a while (which is hard for me because the floral is just . a bit too much), but it is very nice when you find it. I'm going to upgrade this to a solid 5/10, would be 7 or 8 if a different flower was used. I can't tell if it's the rue or narcissus but it just smells like a cross between someone's mean grandma and a baby wipe. That's the ONLY thing I can detect in the sillage, so it's not ideal for me to be wearing every day. Uhh I will say though the tail-end experience of this perfume smells like saliva. Like some random person just licked your arm up and down and now you have to live with the consequences. Luckily that's only after like 4-5 hours or so. Either way if you are an adventurous little creature who also likes grandma florals, this is the one for you. (OLD review because I'm eating my words) Got a sample of this and forgot the notes in it. Upon first sniff, I almost puked. It smelled like floral baby wipes and stale tea. Once I looked at the notes, I tested it again and figured out where they all sat, and started to appreciate it for what it was. That being said, it's still nothing palatable. I wouldn't say it's fishy in any sense, but lake water - as one reviewer put it - is close. It's a little damp-smelling. The sad thing is the rue is awful to me. It has that sickening floral scent that I despise in most real flowers/floral perfumes. Maybe I'm just overly sensitive to it. I give it a solid 1/10.

The notes listed are a bit misleading imo. The "Sea water" note is not a fresh cooling aquatic note but actually a very fishy synthetic that would be much more correctly referred to as "Seaweed". This is all about that fishy seaweed surrounded by a slightly powdery floral duo of narcissus and jasmine, tart bergamot, a bit of that bitter sweetness from that caramel-honey combo. But mainly, it's hypnotically fishy - like a rotten egg mixed with dead jasmine and daffodil petals. Unwearable for me but that could be somebody else's thing.

What the real addictive sea breeze that supposed to be. An amazing take on narcissus. It has that animalic mix of oakmoss, honey wax, vetiver, and sea foam beneath the narcissus. The hints of jasmines adds that extra animalic taste to the blend. This is a brown blend that i sense henna quite clear with doses of cumin. An incredible take on sea breeze and narcissus. Again, another hate blend that i hated on a plotter and adored on my skin! addictive.

Of the JSP sample set I've tested so far, Dinudisit is the most wearable. It's far from conventional, but I don't know how to say it- it kind of follows the pattern of a conventional fragrance. It strikes a perfect balance between really beautiful and really interesting. I'm deeply considering a full bottle of this.
