Howl

Jardins D’Ecrivains (Literally 'Garden of Writers') base the perfumes they make on the inspiration of poetry and literature. So does it 'HOWL'? Set you free from some societal prison? Will it get you involved in an obscenity trial as Ginsberg's work did back in 1957? Well, only if we are outlawing the background smell of the comforting scent of a 1970's head shop - if the hippy in us is finally outlawed. The initial blast is super spicy, almost nose burning in fact, I can only presume that's the Cinnamon - it wakes you up, prepares you for the scent to howl... Then, it doesn't. It drys to a warm ambery scent where I get more woodiness than musk, more Tonka than Patchouli. Overall it's nice, but rather unsurprising, not that that need be an insult - but when your inspiration is one of the most Transformative works of US literature you might expect a bit more shock value. You'll probably like it, you may not rush to buy it. Projection is very mild on me and longevity around 6 hours as a skin scent from a couple of restrained sprays. Smelt from a Bloom sample, not a full bottle.

An inoffensive spicy amber perfume. I was hoping for something a bit more special here and didn't get it though, sadly. There is a very nice lavender blast and a flash of cinnamon upon the first spray, which I wasn't expecting, but then it settles into a mainly warm amber and spicy geranium perfume. There's a little bit of sweet tonka and a whisper, not a howl, of patchouli and musk with it. Mainly though, it's a warm and spicy amber number. P.s does this have sandalwood in? It smells like it does in the drydown.

Cinnamon and patchouli, mild because of the clever use of geranium and lavender. Although not in-your-face, I suspect it's that sweet lavender that makes it a comfort fragrance and colors all the other ingredients. Too comfortable in fact, but a real pleasure to wear.
