JD Juste Filthy

Sock it to me, this is one overt animalic! I love it. The civet note in the opening is massive, and there is definitely some dirtiness going on here. JD's website says there is skatole in this...they must have had some fun in the formulating. Juste Filthy growls and shows his claws early on, then settles down into a warm and smooth, but prominent, panther purr. It comes across as a bit harsh at first, then everything blends in and smooths out within 20 minutes or so on my skin, and stays that way until I shower. If some transfers to my bathrobe, it is very much there until I wash the robe. Super performance. There is an herbal, aromatic, "barbershop" layer that sticks around for me. Sometimes I want to modify that some, so I've got ongoing layering experiments. So far, I like Juste Filthy layered over with a bit of Dame Perfumery Rose Soliflore. I find the rose stands up to the animalics and adds a nice floralcy to the whole. Then there is my 2016 bottle of Shalimar. I think Shalimar is wonderful, but I find the modern stuff thin smelling. A bit of Juste Filthy with the Shalimar adds some "oomph" that brings the Shalimar to life for me. I'm not one to chase after vintages, so I'm happy that I can now better enjoy wearing the Shalimar that I have. I have dared to wear 3 sprays of Juste Filthy outside the house. In the car and soon after spraying, I got comments of "What are you wearing?" and "Whoa, that sure is animalic!" These comments were not meant to indicate a negative reaction, but curiosity. Otherwise, the whole evening I noticed no comments or wrinkled noses from anyone. Based on my experience, Juste Filthy can apparently be worn safely in public. Great modern animalic!

SO intrigued by the descriptions of the new JD line I ordered the 2ml oil samples of 7 of them. (Passed on Duality and Mimosa, which I sort of regret.) Vanille Farfelue is apparently out of stock but the other 6 arrived today and I immediately glommed on to Juste Filthy because, well OK, the name. Juste Filthy on my clean/warm/winter-dry female skin isn't filthy AT ALL which is just fine with me, although I'd imagined something on the dark side of masculine and more sexy/raw animalic based upon the descriptions/reviews posted to date. So, if not what I expected, what do I perceive? First, I seriously doubt anyone would describe the warm fragrance cloud surrounding me as even slightly masculine but I'll wear it to work next week to verify that. Second, I perceive not the slightest hint of cumin (my cumin reference is my 100ml bottle of McQueen's Kingdom) which is to say not even a hint of unwashed skin. Third, a well blended vein of florals definitely weaves its way through the mix although I can't sense any of the individual floral notes cited in the pyramid (so kudos to Dame for perfect blending). Fourth, Juste Filthy on my skin is ALL about the musk. My surprised and delighted conclusion: The relaxed and happy vibe I'm getting is of powdery, sweetly clean warm musky KITTY FUR. Seriously, if this fragrance had an auditory component it would be loudly PURRING with contentment right now. I'm 2 hours in with just small dabs of the oil on my wrists that I then rubbed against my neck and I can't stop smiling. Edit: Delighted to report I'm the proud owner of a FB of this "kitty fur nose candy"! I highly recommend obtaining a sample if you're even a smidge curious.

Attention Vintage musk and animalic perfume fans. If you miss the DNA along the scent profile as things like the original Kouros, you have found it! Major animalics here on the opening. This also has Skatole. For those that are a little rusty on chemistry, this is the molecule that gives certain "animalics" their characteristic scents. Now, don't let this scare you because I said this smells like vintage Kuros not poop. You'll need to give this perfume some time to reach drydown and you will be rewarded with a nice base that lasts on my skin. Someone here wrote that this perfume gives them hope for the future and I agree 100%. I am happy to support a small American brand with some quality, reasonably priced juice that doesn't pay youtube reviewers to shill for them. I'm still testing but I can say that projection is good and this frag is still singing on my skin after a couple hours. My skin generally devours fragrance. I'm not sure if they use real civet, but it smells similar to Dusita Oud Infini which I know uses the real thing. It's well done, synthetic or not. If you miss the original Kuros, it's back although if you have the original I'd say stick with that.

OMG! Thast was first words after spraying it straight on my skin. The name YUSTE FILTHY fits fragrace very well. For all who complain about mainstream fragrances that are too safe, simple and no character here you are. The answer to your prayers and it is not expensive at all. This fragrance has something vintage and dearing in it. I would not cut it down on notes. It is awesome scent that hits you from the first notes and lasts for hours and hours. I see Jeffrey Dame is sometimes visiting these pages. Vary good job! I feel like I just was riding horse whole morning and tired, dusty and sweaty enjoy afternoon breeze. Very powerful stuff. Some fragrances have transport property and this one is definitly one of them. What I mean by transporting property? It's ability of fragrance to transport you in your toughts and feelings to diferent place, time or particular activity.

JD.... You do great work on this line with your sidekick Hugh. Im not going to dissect it. Its a super modern animalic fragrance. Read what I just said again. A super modern animalic fragrance. Theres not many in the marketplace. If they are, your talking about niche prices. And hes done something I normally complain about using modern animalics..hes smoothed them out into a naughty, warm, rich, creamy, velvet animalic. Its not spiky, off putting or sharp. JD gets how the past greats used animalics. This is a reference piece for anyone that wants to understand how they are to be used properly. Im a huge vintage animalic lover. JD has cracked it. Modern Animalic . If you like Mkk, Bal, Any civet/ musk driven scent...this is worth checking out Awesome on its own, or layered. Call me a dirty birdy... Edit: layer this with Fracas or Labdanum Doux

It has been a long time since an online perfume purchase has made me feel special, it was like receiving a wrapped gift rather than any standard purchase! Hats off to Mr. Dame & company for the very gracious presentation!! And the perfume itself is delightful and very lovely on me and I'm female. I was pleasantly surprised by the flowers at the beginning! The Main Notes list on here is sadly lacking "floral" - you have to look at the pictures to learn about the bergamot, orange flower, geranium, lavender and violet. Also I don't find the potion the least bit skanky! To me this is definitely a unisex perfume and a wonderful one that that. I have a long time love of animalics, I'm an old hippie who wore civet oil when all the others were dousing themselves with patchouli. Juste Filthy is Juste Perfect!

A crisp, bright resignification of Kouros, but updated, original, with the clarity of purpose made possible by the latest aromatic structures. The herbals and green spiced (floral) elements are luminescent, while the civet and skatole hold them and extend them until, many many hours later, one is left with a warm, radiating, comforting (urinous-fecal-fresh) glow rising up from one’s chest. It’s as if JD parsed out all the extraneity from Kouros and both lightened/freshened and warmed/spiced it at once. A stunning achievement, more so for the great price, strength, and personalized customer service. On clothing it radiates a week. Fans of aromatic fougere-y animalics will love it.

I had the exact same experience as weegee: I LOVE THIS, and it is not dirty-smelling on me, and I detect no cumin at all either. It's similar to Kiehl's Original Musk to me in terms of dirtiness, also kind of like some of the Smell Bent musks like Werewolf Lumberjack Reclining on a Bearskin Rug. I wish I could get body care products in this scent like lotion or body spray! WELL worth ordering a sample regardless of gender. Totally full bottle worthy, especially at the great price of $38.

Wear Juste Filthy and you may be transported back to 1978. Literally 3 sprays will last 12+ hours. Juste Filthy is a very animalic fougere scent. The animalic note is rough and dirty but not barnyardish. Civet, musk and cumin give it that body odor dirty smell that give the fragrance it's backbone character. If you like old school 70 or 80's masculine scents then I recommend you look into this.

Personally, I like this even better than vintage Kouros, although many would find them to be damn near identical. If you're into the skank factor like I am, you'll want to layer it over a spray or two of JD's Scatamalis as well. People will either love you for smelling like an overworked gigolo, or the less appreciative Philistines will a reference a ripe, highway diaper.

Honest thoughts. YSL Kouros is the most straight-up, drop-dead, raw, sexy scent ever made for the male body. And Juste Filthy is juste too similar to not be a deliberate dupe. Or maybe an intentional homage. It's a smidge cleaner. But, not so much that you don't know exactly what it is supposed to be. This gives me hope for the future of perfumerie. A home run.

Bergamot, Tarragon, Cinnamon leaf, Cumin, Rosemary, artemisia, Orange flower, Geranium, Lavender, Olibanum, Violet, Tonka bean, Civet, Cedar wood, Vetiver, Patchouli, Musk, Skatole It is very much in the same ball park as Kouros but doesn't contain exactly the same ingredients, just masterfully blended.

Animalic Musk. Upon first applying, the opening was way too perfumey. Upon drydown, it reminds me of something a CEO or in my case a Male Principal would wear. This fragrance screams respect. It's a very dominating scent. Mature dress up male who is clean shaven. Suit and tie only IMO.

aah Latitude-29, maybe one day for export. For now all my focus is here in the States. Oh, and also, JD JUSTE FILTHY is not only marvelous the formula is already completely 100% IFRA Fragrance Euro compliant. Magic takes many forms.

This is the Male version of chanel no 5. Love it.

This is a fragrance for those of us that are familiar with the vintage Kouros (and similar fragrances) of the 80's. And it is not for the faint of heart. In full honesty, when I first got the fragrance (being a heavy handed sprayer of scents most of the time) I over applied this and it was not pleasant at all. The civet, and Skatole were almost overwhelming, and I vowed to never, ever do that again!I placed it in its bag and let it gather dust for a year not wanting to repeat the performance. (even though it was my fault entirely) But, I came around and used it for an evening out - this time using a much lighter application of 3 sprays. And that is when the magic happened. I have to admit that the opening had me wondering if I had been overreacting on the first couple of experiences with Juste Filthy. It almost seemed to be an entirely smoother, more refined scent after a year of sitting on the shelf. The civet and skatole made themselves known for the first 5 minutes. But then the bergamot, tonka and lavender became apaprent - as well as the spicyness from the carnation. A sweet, soap-like mid arrived shortly thereafter and I found myself going back to the inside of my wrist for a sniff time and time again. Just beautiful...The performance was simply spectacular, and garnered a compliment out of the blue. While this is in no way a clone of Kouros, or any other specific fragrance from the "animalic/powerhouse" era, it certainly is a respectfully crafted homage to that time while remaining "modern". Clean, crisp, and noticeable. This is a real diamond in the rough for those seeking a robust, well crafted scent that will stand out from the crowd. But, you need to be a fan of the genre to appreciate it if I'm being honest here. And discretion with the sprays is an absolute must. Two sprays under the shirt, and one on the wrists rubbed together - no more.. Well done Jeffrey!!

Tested from samples. Very nice anamalic that leans masculine. If you like Kouros, El and Antaeus, Juste Filthy won't surprise or challenge you. The opening is not as rough as El. To me, this is similar to Kouros, except Juste Filthy has more emphasis on the florals. After they've both dried down, Kouros is a bit darker and I'd classify it as hyper-masculine while Juste Filthy only leans masculine and it is sharper and lighter (compared to Kouros). I also tested it using JD's Scatamalis as a base with Juste Filthy layered on top. Scatamalis was specifcally designed for layering with Juste Filthy. It contains only the six base notes of Juste Filthy (patchouli, vetiver, cedar wood, civet, skatole, and musk). Layered is where Juste Filthy really shines. It becomes darker, has more depth and becomes very masculine. Even using it layered like this, I didn't find it disgusting or challenging. Rather, it's a very good, modern take on 70's and 80's animalic powerhouses. Performance is very good; nothing to worry about in that department. Regarding price, there are two sides to consider. By itself, Juste Filthy is a OK, considering it's a niche perfume. Once I tested it layered with Scatamalis, I really liked it but that requires purchasing a bottle of each which doubles the price. Scatamalis is also available as a 10ml perfume oil roller ball applicator which would make the combo more affordable. I can appreciate having them separate - this gives the user control on how much to pump up the animalics and also makes Scatamalis available to add extra animalic punch to other fragrances. I'm adding both to my FB shopping list. If you're a guy who gets anxiety attacks over Kouros don't bother with Juste Filthy and certainly don't even think of getting Scatamalis.

I was one of the 100 fragrantica users that received this sample for free :) Aromatic Animalic. Seems like a juxtaposition but smells very nice. I agree with the people below that are calling this a modern animalic. The cumin really stands out for me, and is softened by the floral and fougere notes. I can't recommend blind buying this, it's an animalic with a lot of personality. Unsurprisingly, it's easier to wear than JD's Scatmalis Base, which has much more civet dominant. When I can test both together (base is made for layering), I'll edit this review and report the results.

I got a sample vial of this and accidentally spilled about 5 spray's worth on my wrist. That was pretty powerful, definite note. After I wiped it off it became a lot more pleasant. It smells very familiar, I think maybe my grandpa wore something like this. So for me it reminds me of a classic, super manly man. Just don't spray too much!

No mistaking this is deliberate skank. Even though it is "disgusting" smelling, with all kinds of perfumer chemicals trying to make it so, it ends up being too fakey to be disgusting at the visceral level. Instead you're the kid having those deliberately kid gross out assortment of JellyBellies with flavors like "Cerumen". But you are a perfumer so you get a company to release it! Kind of an "inorganic Kouros" vibe. Then it turns into a dish detergent acrid smell for the last couple of hours. Might wear something like this maybe twice/year.
