JD Labdanum Doux

Labadanum Doux is an unexpected surprise in the Dame lineup, albeit a very pleasant one. Dame has produced a number of solid fruity-florals, soliflores, and clean musks (I own several) at great prices. When I saw that Labadanum Doux was a labdanum-musk fragrance, I immediately assumed that it would be of the clean white musk variety that he does so well. If you like your musks clean, you will want to sample this fragrance first, because Labdanum Doux's musk ventures into naughty territory. To my nose, this fragrance pays homage to the classic fruity chypres of yesterday. It starts off with a nice dose of animalic musk, not at Musc Koublai Khan levels, but definitely a skosh skanky. After a few minutes, the chypre comes into focus, with rich peach and oakmoss notes, underpinned by the smoothing base labdanum, benzoin, and patchouli. Later, I even detect a touch of the white florals, and while I generally loathe gardenia, in this fragrance it blends seamlessly with the other notes to add a touch of lightness to the fragrance. Very nicely done, and at a wallet-friendly price point. If you like classic fruity chypres, or if you want to explore them without paying the steep prices of vintage, Labdanum Doux is a great place to start. For Dame fans, this fragrance marks an interesting new direction for his perfume line, and I'm excited to see where it goes.

First and foremost, this is not going to be a safe blind buy for most people. And, I say that as a fan of the fragrance. This is a shape-shifting and fairly complex scent, it is not a linear scent, and in my opinion, this could be a challenging scent for some people. However, I love it. I like the way the musk is used in this scent; it's not entirely clean, but it's not so skanky that it becomes vulgar. It's teetering on the brink of those things and tantalizing the wearer by being a bit of both. And, I think tantalizing is the best way to describe this fragrance. You're getting some fruitiness, some earthiness, some skank, some florals all in a way that draws you in and coaxes you to come closer, but leaves you wanting a bit more and more. For example, you definitely feel smell and detect the oakmoss, but why does it have a chalky, mineral almost metallic vibe to it? Or, what is that faint hint of spice? This is a fragrance that you're going to have to sit with and revisit.

Break out the fur coats (faux) grab Labdanum Doux, spray lavishly, put the alligator bag over your arm and attack the day! JD..I freeking love you for this line I bet you had enough of us lament about the older fumes and you gave us this. Thank you!!! Labdanum Doux reminds me of the herbal openings of the past greats.. Weil Zibeline, Antilope, basically JD releases the antidote to the sweet fruitchoulis dominating the market. Its warm and fuzzy musk, florals simmering in the heart of this chypre and did I mention his stylish bottles? Round and heavy..and $38. Chypre lovers, vintage lovers we have a treasure in the JD line. Guerlain can keep their Mitsy. Im ordering a case of LD. A+ . Retro Fabulous.

A classic, fruity chypre that brings to mind Balenciaga's Quadrille, and the various sweet fruity Dior chypres (Diorama, Dior Dior) to me more than Mitsouko. It has the plummy, sweet fruitiness of that scent with a soapy, skin-like background and none of the strange, vetiver-rich austerity of the Guerlain. Opens with citrus and peach, settles into sweet ylang, and then finally a bed of musk, labdanum, and moss. It also evokes a less challenging Diaghilev, so if anyone wants that itch scratched for a fraction of the price, this might be a good choice. Such bang for your buck!

Bang for you buck here, if someone had sprayed this on me at Barney's and told me it was in the 200 dollar price point, I would not blink, it is complex, it is potent and it is not cookie cutter. I would describe this as resinous, mossy and slightly medicinal ylang ylang. The opening is a bit harsh but shortly, 5 mins in or so starts smoothing out into. Best way i can describe it is a cosmetic bag, from the late 80s with a bit of nail polish, a bit of bubble gum and the theme of season 2 90210 tv show playing in the background.

This is an updated and more contemporary version of Guerlain's Mitsuko. If you love Mitsuko and have a hard time paying Guerlain prices give Labdanum Doux a try. While I like Mitsuko, I founds it unwearable for myself and gave my bottle to an elderly neighbor. Labdanum Doux is at least for me more wearable for today. I am super impressed w/ the JD Jeffery Dame Femme and Woman line. Quality vintage style perfumes made for the 21st century. I may have to buy a bottle of this. I found this less earthy than Mitsuko. And while I do like it my husband cannot tolerate it at all so it will not be added to my collection. I am still considering a full bottle of Duality. I own Singularity and Mimosa Mixte. I have Vanilla Farfalle, Sous Bois, and their new Gardenia samples coming and I am very excited about testing them. I have to say JD Woman and Femme line are very impressive and the price point is insane. I hope he keeps his prices affordable because it is greatly appreciated.

This is such a warm, inviting chypre... I now understand where labdanum fits into the archetypical scent pyramid. Oakmoss kind of plays off the evergreen/herbal part of labdanum, and the amber accord softens everything into a lovely peach-fuzz scent. This is less like Femme Rochas and closer to Mitsouko, an extrait version if it was being sold today. Even though I’m not a chypre wearer-- most smell too soapy due to the ubiquitousness of oakmoss-- this is an amazing one and worth trying. The dram sample I used contained a thick oil that applied to my skin smoothly, much like labdanum resin suspended in jojoba oil.

I received a sample of this and wow, instant love! Labdanum Doux is warm and spicy with intoxicating white florals, deep musk, and rich resins. Just gorgeous. And only $38! Are you kidding? I'll be ordering this very soon.

Oh so sad! I was excited to be able to afford a blind buy of a full bottle of JD-something, so I chose this scent based on its reviews here on Fragrantica. Sad, sad, sad. Something about the chemistry of my skin reacts with this fragrance to create the scent of latex, evocative of a freshly-applied Band-Aid or the hallways of a busy hospital. I waited hours, hoping that the latex was just a stage, that it would eventually morph into something (anything!) else... but no. Sad sad sad...

No airy fairy barely there affair this! Labdanum Doux is an old school BIG chypre fragrance in with loads of ylang-ylang. A bit much for me, too solid in some way, but if you're into show stoppers with a classic vibe, do give this a go! I tested the oil version, in a 2 ml format. The way this performs will make even such a small amount last for ages I'm sure.

I am not sure what these reviewers are smelling. To me this is an indolic offensive bomb of a fragrance. Loud...did I say indolic. Yes very indolic. Overpowering. I love Jeffrey's work, but not this one. Disappointed, it sounded so good according to the notes. Glad others are enjoying this one. Just not me. I suggest sampling first!

340 Nah, it smells nothing like Mitsouko or femme rochas. It smells only of medicinal bandaids (oakmoss?) and a stanky vintage note (not sure what it is). It does not smell of any labdanum. I smell no flowers, fruit, or spices. 0/10-All those notes and nothing of substance. Very disappointed based on notes...

Leave it to Jeffrey Dame to create another great scent. Since the fall of all the great French houses, why isn't everybody buying this man's products? Labdanum Doux, is indeed a soft chypre and therefore no one note predominates, but it is truly modern in its abstraction. Since it is a classical genre perfumes that it resembles do come to mind, but this is singular in its variation on the theme. The velvety softness is my favorite aspect of this perfume and does bring to mind the immortal Ma Grief. Finally, I seem to get different notes from this all the time, which I absolutely love. This nuance is really what I seek in a perfume. For my taste though, this is a little too quiet, but it is probably just right for the office.

Wow...this one is "challenging"...in the vein of Mitsouko EDP. This goes thru several changes on MY skin. First you get hit with that Mitsouko-ish blast...then..pungent floral ...then a sweeter side of the scent wafts in. This can be either a complex great blend....or a total mess of notes...???...For me,sorry to say, it is a MESS. I found that I could no longer wear Mitsouko comfortably, but go figure,,,I LOVE Rochas Femme...???...There is just too too much of a "perfumey" vibe to this. Not recommended for blind buy, IMHO.
