JD Mimosa Mixte

@kiraagold has this perfume totally right. I can't expand on her review. It is spot on. I blind bought this based on that review and I am very happy. I also got a sample of the Labdanum Doux, Musc and Duality today w/ my order along w/ a sample of their face cream. They give lots of samples which I like, and the prices are very reasonable. Plus, no tax and free shipping. I am wearing the Musc sample now mixed w/ Apricot from Provence Sante. The Musc is a good layering musk but not very intriguing on its own. I am super impressed w/ the Woman and Femme line of JD Jeffery Dame and blind buying any of these fragrances is an easy bet if you like vintage perfumes that have a 21st century execution. I may blind buy the Vanilla and Gardenia (when that comes out) These perfumes are superb! If you like freezer burnt cherry/vanilla/almond ice cream combined w/ dusty mimosa, violets and woods this is one to check out. It is delicious!

This is a a big, blowsy yellow floral when first applied, a mimosa scent that doesn’t shy away from the mimosa, soften it too much, or make it too powdery. The opening is STRONG. I definitely smell the heliotrope, too, with its bake shoppe sweetness. This does soften and smooth over as dries down, eventually ending up as a musky, mimosa-y vanilla base, but even then it has a vintage sensibility. I love mimosa fragrances, but haven’t found one that lasts well enough to purchase it until now. THIS is the one. Applied from an EDP (alcohol-based, not oil) sample.

I took a look at the main accords listed for Mimosa Mixte and powdery is right. It opens up sweet and juicy, from the yellow florals then quickly dries down to POWDER. It reminds me of when I was a teenager and carelessly dropped a compact on the floor. The case cracked open and the powder flew into the air. The smell of it is so similar that I instinctively get ready to choke and cough every time I'd get a whiff. Thankfully I only bought a used sample of this scent. I love yellow florals, but I am not big on the explosive heliotrope-violet-sandalwood combo (a la Kenzo Flower). I recognize that it's beautiful, even if it's not my style. I will probably use the scent for dates, applying very minimally somewhere far from my nose. It's a very snuggly kind of fragrance so I think others will like it on me, even if I don't.

At first spray, this is potent and not terribly pleasant on my skin. But like all great perfumes, especially vintage, the beauty develops on the skin. It takes some time, not a lot but certainly about half and hour, to get to the fluffy, powdery heart that I most love. The tinge of violet keeps it from veering into "death by yellow", and the added surprise of basil lends a light, somewhat peppery greeness. Citrus, while barely detectable, is skillfully used to help cut through what could be an overdose of powder, and the musk and sandalwood allow the fragrance to float while still remaining tethered to the ground. I find that most of the JD line is an easy blind buy for me, given the quality vs. price, though Mr. Dame's generous sampling allows you to skip the risk entirely. Next up is his newest Gardenia.

Every lady needs this in her spring rotation. It smells of fresh air, sunshine, tender buds, and innocence. To my nose, it is not powdery until the far dry down, but it's also not that waxy, lipstick-y type of powder; it is rather the heliotrope, violet, and musk that come into play. The scent is strongly mimosa, as the pyramid (and the name) will attest, but there is plenty of other stuff going on in this oil-based fragrance, as well. Tender. Romantic. Spring-like. It would be a great scent for Easter. Recommended.
