Collection Heritage Deux Amours

Funny story. I accidentally purchased Deux Amours. Not to suggest that I might not have ever purchased it, but I wanted to purchase Adieu Sagesse instead. When I realized my error, I reied to cancel Deux, but apparently it was too late. In the meantime, I ordered Adieu and I'm waiting for it to arrive, along with Chaldee, all from the Patou Heritage Collection. I must give a shout out to me newest swap buddy - thank you for introducing me to the collection, Linda! I now own 5 bottles from the collection and love them all. Deux Amour is a gorgeous, old school white floral, with an indolent jasmine taking the lead. It doesn't veer into "poop" territory, but has just enough dirtiness to appeal to fans of jasmine who enjoy it's multiple facets. Surprisingly, tuberose takes a back seat to the jasmine here, though it is detectable, and adds a touch of both creaminess and green freshness. This review is based upon a first wearing. It just arrived today and needs time to rest. I struggle to really identify other notes, though rose and neroli do make an appearance, however light. All in all, this is a very elegant fragrance, and thoughtful I don't like to attach age to perfumes, I think in most cases, it requires a degree of sophistication in order to pull it off successfully. It is a very French perfume; classic is the word that keeps coming to mind. I am very happy that it is now part of my wardrobe. Hoe fortuitous that me error ended up working to my advantage. I can not wait for it to have some time to macerate after it's voyage. Spring will be here in the Northern Hemisphere before we know it, and I think this will shine best in warmth weather - not too hot nor too cold. A Goldilocks perfume if ever I've tried one. If you have a desire to experience classic French perfumery at it's finest, I highly recommend you sample this one, as well as others in the collection.

When you are a collector with a vast array of fragrances to choose from every day, there are some you wear more often and others you wear maybe once or twice a year at best. I am that person, and today I pulled Deux Amores. I loved it when I first purchased it 2 - 3 years ago, but because I seldom wear it, I couldn't recall what it smelled like. Well, I'm happy to report that I still love it, much more than I can recall. I just live the slightly indolic jasmine and the tropical ylang stand out and are enhanced by the other notes, particularly the sandalwood. I own about 6 bottles from the glorious Heritage Collection, which I was introduced to by a dear Fragrantica friend. I'm going to revisit them again over the next several weeks. My experience today was almost like getting a new perfume, and while I know some of them better than others, I look forward to reexperincing the ones I dont remember quite as well. The silage here is delicate, but noticeable as a scent bubble when I move around. As far as longevity is concerned, it's moderate at best, but I don't mind respraying. I'm sniffing my wrist like a crazed woman!!

Green bergamot and fresh neroli introduce the fragrance. A moment of a refined jasmine/tuberose surfaces reminding me of vintage Joy edt. The custard like ylang and rose harmonize making it a luminescent, bright floral. It walks a fine line of refinement. Its not as heavy as vintage formulations but it isnt a thin ghost of a shell it could have been made to be. A quality buy,quality materials and thought went into this production. Deux amours is the best in the genre of the Chanel N5, Guerlain Liu, Joy edt in the current formulations on the market. No aldehydes to speak of but the neroli keeps it modernly fresh yet keeps its very french floral roots. I dont understand why the heritage collection isnt getting more love from enthusiasts. I can only surmise Patous former relationship with Proctor and Gamble had almost destroyed the brand. I am here to assure you..Patou has been reformulated and restored to proper form by Thomas Fontaine. Try them again for modern elegance.

Clean and refreshing burst of bergamot and neroli tapers off into an indolic and waxy jasmine and ylang, very thick in a custard-like form. Definitely a vintage feel but not as 'heavy' as the classics, retains a freshness that makes this much easier to wear. Perfect for warm/hot weather, fragrances like this (to me anyway) wear better when in the heat than the cold. A little above arms' length, but does last 5+ hours.

Deux Amours doesn't smell like the original Amour Amour (which was the forerunner of Joy), but it is a very beautiful fragrance, which is unmistakably Patou. It smells very much like Patou For Ever (which, in itself included notes of 1000), with Joy's jasmine notes added. Definitely a fragrance for lovers of classic Patou.

My bottle is a few years old, happily maturing in the process. Made the realization recently that there is a very strong leather note in the base, that didn't seem to be there before. Is it the combination of other notes, or something in the base that was simply not included in the notes, I do not know. It is however one of the best 'leather' notes I have experienced. That combo of leather and jasmine is sheer bliss to my nose, and the type of accord that many have tried to emulate. It starts off very indolic and get milder and more aromatic later on. To be fair, performance is not that great. The obvious thing would be to blame IFRA, but I have all of the other ones from the Heritage Collection and they don't have this problem. (L'heure attendue also has a sandalwood base and it has no performance issues.) I think this is what you get when you have a lot of naturals and a light base. This is for people who don't worry about longevity; they can reapply whenever. It is for people who want intimate sillage. For a certain group of people who if you're attending a dinner do 'imposing' yourself by strong perfume was (and is) considered a faux-pas. This is grown up perfumery. I am desperately looking for this. No tricks, no angles, no silly marketing. Just grown up quality.

This took me forever to receive in the mail but finally today it is here. I sprayed this on my hand and let it melt down for a bit and it smells like a classic feminine French perfume much in the same class as Chanel #5. There is a sharpness in the opening that is almost off putting but it mellows down to a floral, green crispness that is very chic. This smells clean in the way clean smelled in the bygone decades of early and mid 20th century. I will enjoy wearing this when I want to remember when style, class and elegance reigned, women wore dresses and men wore suits and hats. I never lived in those eras but I liked to dream about them when I was a kid and I still do dream about them. Heck I don't even dress up as much as I did in the recent past and I miss it. I was jealous of my parents for having lived their teenage years in the 1950's. I have many modern or should I say post modern fragrances in my collection but what I love so much about my Jean Patou's is they take me to time periods that are gone and all but disappeared in most people's memories. We can't go back in time but we scent ourselves w/ a piece of the past when we wear something from Jean Patou's Heritage Collection. This one is classic, chic, and oh so French.

Well, isn’t this simply another delight from the Patou Heritage Collection. A stylish, elegant, timeless floral with something a little extra, arising from the styrax base most likely. Well blended mainly white flowers but with some depth to the base, a very wearable and distinct enough fragrance to stand out from the crowd. Apparently this is the one originally created for blondes so therefore I have no reason not to like it! (Actually I like them all, Adieu Sagesse for redheads, Que sais Je for brunettes and this one). Its a shame the Heritage Collection didn’t really get the public recognition it deserves. Now with the heavy discounts following the closing of Patou fragrances I have collected them all before they vanish forever.

I could barely smell Deux Amours when I cracked the new bottle. I dutifully emptied sprays every few months without wearing it. Now, a year passed, it's gorgeous, but hardly old and perfumy. I wonder if Fontaine's creations will ever get their due. They are all elegant and were rudely shot down, perhaps for the original price points (très cher! for modern, light-touch concoctions), perhaps for their dissimilitude to the original Patous sharing these names. Deux Amours is yellow, golden and nectary. So chic.

The indolic opening might be slightly surprising for those used to modern florals and it remains to an extent for many hours. It's predominantly a waxy pretty jasmine tuberose for me. The note breakdown above wouldn't have given me much of an idea of what to expect....not a million miles away from houbigant essence royale...but that is a bit sweeter.

I'm so happy I found a bottle of Deux Amours, now becoming scarce since Jean Patou have ceased making perfume. It's said they intended this fragrance to leave a memory of lavish forests. I'm not sure what a lavish forest looks like (in Australia our forests are incendiary torches waiting to be lit), but I'm imagining a verdant, dew-spangled fairytale and there is indeed a fresh green atmosphere from the opening of Deux Amours, when neroli and bergamot appear. A fragrant mist in the depths of our forest reveals jasmine and ylang-ylang, but it is neroli, which is something like an elusive nightingale, providing the heart-thumping atmosphere Deux Amours creates. This is classic French perfumery; a thoughtfully restored gem originally released in 1925 and very much redolent of art deco exploration and that period's exultation of beauty. Try to find this one before it disappears (ditto L'Heure Attendue and Vacances). Haiku of the day dew-spangled forest a nightingale sings for us heart-thumping beauty

Why Cacharel took the original name? How they let them!
