Hip

I am a huge fan of Jean Patou fragrances and have had Hip on my mind for quite awhile now. When I saw a steal of a deal on this I snapped it up knowing that I would probably love it as I usually do with Patou's. As I understand Hip was a limited edition USA release. Hip is unlike anything else I own. It has a classic Patou feel to it but it is a more fun and flirty Patou in the same style as Sira des Indes and Enjoy. But it is very different from those in how it smells. Enjoy and Sira des Indes are very feminine but Hip IMO is unisex. Hip starts off with a blast of rhubarb, grapefruit and tart red berries. As the fragrance develops I get a light honeyed linden blossom and a tart fresh rose. This is very spicy for such a light fruity floral and pink pepper, ginger but a very big presence of paprika really shows it's muscle in this fragrance which gives it really unique character and charm all its own. Sandalwood and musk blend nicely in the dry down. All and all this is very unique, special and unlike anything else I own. Long lasting as well. Only a vintage lover would appreciate this fragrance, it isn't excessively sweet like today's fruity florals. It is still on the classic side. For those who love classic perfumes but also like unisex fragrances as well. Also this is much spicier than what the above accords would have you believe. There is ginger and paprika here as well and they are strong. But I agree it is very musky, green, fruity, yellow floral, citrus and rosy. Soft spicy but that should be higher up and the sweet should be lowered. Unique, quirky, unisex but still posh. A sophisticated woman with her very own sense of style and a posh dandy would rock this cool and very "Hip" eau de toilette that performs like a eau de parfum. Excellent summer fragrance. Shines in high humidity.

I was very happy to get a bottle on Evilbay for a very nice price and I am wearing it today. No one misses the Jean Patou perfumes more than I do, and although this is not one of the masterpieces of tbe house, it's a pretty, happy, little thing made with quality materials. It reminds me of some other fruity florals such as Mariella Burani Amuleti, but it has its own charms. The grapefruit and rhubarb are sweeter than most and the linden blossom is delightful. A lightly sugared rose ties it all together. This is a nice scent for the office and would also be great for a teenager's first perfume instead of something overly syrupy from the department store. I am not the target demographic for this fragrance, but I don't care. Sometimes I want my grown-up perfumes, and sometimes I want to kick up my heels with something sparkling and fun. Hip fills that role perfectly.

Hip is just such a typical Patou....I could reconize him with my eyes closed. For some reason it reminds me of both Enjoy and Sira Des Indes a little, which means I am in love with it. But it could be because i only tried it on my wrist so far and mostly catching the so-called "Patou" note. I will add more, after I wear it properly. Ok,I was right. Hip and Enjoy do have some similarities, but at the same time they are different. Enjoy is headier and has more sweetness to it, while Hip is less sweet but spicy an peppery, kind of like Ferragamo. Since Hip is discontinued and the prices for it are astronomical, I would say don't go broke over it. Buy more affordable Enjoy instead. But if you like Patou fragrances and find a good deal, grab it without a second thought! I think i just lucked out to get a brand new tester for $ 25.

As I know, the Patou house carried out Hip (together with Nacre) limited for the American market and it's always been on my "For test" list. Since I'm into notes of paprika, pepper, saffron and ginger in perfumes I was wondering how it smells like. Sadly, I didn't get anything like paprika, but the fragrance itself didn't disappoint me. How could it, it is a Patou :) Hip is classified as floral fruity and it is indeed a less serious, but more joyous Patou. Its opening is a duo of grapefruit and pear spiced with a hint of pepper, in its floral heart the rose is combined with ylang-ylang and lime-blossom. This fruity-floral dominion breezely remains in the drydown in harmony with the ginger and sandalwood. A new love of mine and there is no doubt about that I will often reach for it over the summer.

This is what YSL's "Babydoll" would smell like as a grown up woman. Amazing stayingpower for a fruity floral (almost edp-strenght rather than edt). Potent, mature & sparkling for grown up women. This is a mischievous pink essence that stimulates the senses with a sparkling duo of Red Grapefruit & Pink Peppercorn from Mauritius. In it's floral heart, the exuberance of Bulgarian Rose mingles with the sweet, honeyed tones of Linden and Ylang-Ylang from Madagascar. Fruity facets of Rhubarb and Pear are highlighted by a woody spicy harmony of Ginger from China, vetiver from Haiti and Sandalwood from Mysore. A few drops of happiness... La vie en rose.
