Joy Forever

Joy Forever 2.5oz EDP bottle reviewed. I have to be honest, I had read these reviews and this wasnt really on my try list. However, I received a sweet correspondence from Thomas Fontaine himself thanking me for supporting Patou. I do love Patou. In all its incarnations (except the P&G Years) Mr. Fontaine won me over not only being a superior perfumer, but also I own Colony Heritage and the latest formulas of 1000 Edp, Joy Edp and Sublime Edp. All were very good in the midst of IFRA regulations. I ordered his stand alone contribution to the "Joy" cannon of fragrances, Joy Forever EDP. A translucent, bright, sparkling opening with sweet fruits of mandarin, bergamot, orange blossom and peach.. Jasmine, rose, marigold and a green galbanum balance the natural sweetness. A spicy nuance comes into play at hour 3 I can assume its the orris joining in while the heart opens. Light woods, ambergris conclude the dry down. The ambergris adds a luminosity to the florals and theres a moment with the marigold/ambergris is just uniquely stunning.The blending is tremendous and very rare for current formulations out in the marketplace. Again, a hallmark of french perfumary still alive at the house of Patou. If you like Chanel 5 L'eau, Premiere, Lubin Gin Fizz, or Norell -Joy Forever will appeal to you. It is not the strongest rendering of an EDP formula so I would imagine the body cream would help this tremendously as a boost. Keep in mind this was not designed to be in the heavy vintage league of older Patous. Joy forever was intended as the modern, bright, luminous entry into the Patou cannon updated for modern times. Joy Forever has interesting notes that do not bore or copy the syrupy sweet fragrances of the time, and manages to make JF a modern, unique daytime scent thats always appropriate. Silage is low and close to the body. Over sprayers/heavy handed users rejoice! You can get as lavish as you want! Longevity I get 4-6 hrs in my wearing and I do advise to spray on skin and clothing. Remember this is more for a discerning customer than most.. so give Joy Forever multiple wearings. It was bright and refreshing at first for this viIntage enthusiast.. then it began to haunt me and I grew to love this one. I believe great fragrances reveal themselves over multiple wearings. Sophisticated, Fresh, Translucent, Bright- Joy Forever.

Some time ago I made an unfair mistake with this perfume, I never wore the classic Joy, for reasons I have expressed in a comment that is now on it fragrantica page, but unfortunately that comment stayed on this page for a long time, because although I'm a loyal client of Jean Patou's creations for years, both clothes and perfume, I have no idea Joy forever is not the same thing as Joy, I thought is just a new cute pink rebrand for the new housewife- mistresses type Kennedy-Onassis, but no, no, no. When I bought the bottle of Joy I thought it was a vintage because I usually buy vintage from that boutique, and I bought it to remember if really was as easyfree life as I remembered, and it was, but I had no idea what the jew is Joy forever because is nothing like Joy. A few days ago, at the beginning of summer in Geneva, I saw a dear and old friend from Belgium again, powerful woman, brilliant diplomat, old, of course old I'm too, but with an impeccable blazer-pant manteau d'été outfit, as usual, and the most amazing summer vibe but with a no proeminent citrus as typical in the summer perfume, was more a diluted iced floral, I was so charmed, that she didn't even get to sit on the restaurant chair when I asked her What is that, Liebling? You don't know it? I'm thrilled, Joy ma chérie, Patou. No it's not😂, what are you talking about, it's a green powerful iced floral feminsit scent, not a rosey-rose seduction boudoir. No chéri, not that Joy, Joy forever. And that how I meet my next love, perfumery love let me clear that. Joy forever isn't Joy by any means, I don't understand why they name it like that, but I presume was more a marketing thing, although let's be serious, those who wear Joy by passion will never like this approach, this is a white iced flowers with a very green base and a strong masculine aromatic note, even an ozonic vibration. For me it's like an Arrogance but without that resinous note, which I admit it's not bad. I would wear it this summer a lot, I never thought I will say that but I love Joy...Forever Joy.

Wonder if it's worth writing a review for something that is discontinued, but there's still bottles out there... It feels odd to write this, given how everyone keeps saying that this is floral and 'for women', but my nose doesn't perceive this as such (OK it could be my nose!). To me the EDP comes across as a progression of 3 things: citrus cologne (with something bitter/herbal), peach-floral heart (but green, rather than sweet) and musk/sandalwood combo for base. I'm happy with all of that! The blending is excellent, so each part blends into the next. Longevity (8 hours) and sillage (moderate to strong) are both excellent. What I think has caused a lot of confusion, is that these bottles need to 'sit' for a while. I've experienced this with a lot of the more recent Patous. Is this because of some chemistry thing that has to do with ingredients? Could it be restrictions at the time of production? Is it a sign that there are a lot of natural ingredients in them? I wish someone would give me the answer, but who is that person going to be? They clearly don't want mere consumers to know more intricate details of how they are made. That would not do! In any case, if someone is patient enough for Joy Forever to finally come out of its shell, you will be very pleasantly surprised. That this house, with such a great line of perfumes, has gone out of business says just about everything re the level of absurdity we are currently experiencing. Thomas Fontaine is underrated.

Hmmm ... very nice! I appreciate the fruity sweetness in this one, even though I am generally not a big fan of fruity notes. Upon application, it reminded me of Si - that sort of beer/wine smell that I find very unattractive but that thankfully dissipates in both scents. I find that the Patous I own really require the most time to fully develop on the skin. I don't mind waiting! Joy Forever EDP is sunny and just plain pretty! The jasmine plays well with the peach, without a trace of the indoles present in the classic Patou Big Three. I am enjoying it very much. For those who find it doesn't last, I recommend that you try dabbing this on instead of spraying. It just seems to keep the juice more concentrated. I get lovely whiffs every time I move my wrists. If you want to leave a big trail, then it might not be for you. But if you want a scent that beckons people to come closer, you may want to give it a go!

Let’s not get into whatever happened with Jean Patou—how the house that produced the “perfume of the century” came to be mismanaged, sold and re-sold, mangled, unceremoniously executed and tossed in a ditch—and appreciate this swan song. Maybe it was a last-ditch effort to juice the brand with a cynical and unnecessary Joy flanker. If that’s true, the result is miraculous. Fontaine’s creation is as gorgeous as it is sincere: a sparkling rose-gold peach floral that blooms and transforms for hours on skin. Overflowing, effervescent, a shower of flower petals and sunshine. The peach is juicy and pronounced at first, but it dries up a bit to make room for the densely woven, edge-less floral blend that defines the Joy line. Give that first spray time to settle in; once she warms up, she’ll sing for you. And since the whole brand is defunct, discounts abound (while supplies last).

this is amazing. so beautiful. i'm going to treasure my little sampler vial of this... i don't think i can afford a bottle but i wish i could. jasmine, cedar, and orange blossom are typically dealbreaker scents for me (i don't want to smell of poo, hamster cages, or fritos) but amazingly everything else in this is just gorgeous. a girl in my elementary school class (she hated me, which was fine, 'cuz i didn't like her either), her mom wore the most amazing perfume. now, that was nearly 30 years ago so i know it wasn't this, but the smell of her mom's perfume (no idea what it was, i never got the nerve to ask) has stuck with me, and this is the first thing i've encountered that was close.

The way I perceive this perfume, it should've been called "Comfort" and not "Joy Forever". First I get a slight blast of sweet rosy notes, yet this settles into a sweet skin scent, focused mainly on peach and marigold. Very nice, very cosy, feminine but in no way sexy or teasing. Almost motherly but (gladly, and even surprisingly)not too old-fashioned. My husband really liked it (and he's no great perfume admirer). I personally find it office safe and more appropriate for cooler weather. I was sure Patou was going to mean huge, decadent, diva-like scents. I'm very happy to say I'm pleasantly surprised by this blind buy.

Stop. This is such a pleasure to wear. A hidden gem. I describe this as the mid and drydown of Joy EDP. All the best parts of Joy in this exquisite perfume. I smell rose a couple of hours after dry down. My search for the best floral fragrance with a high concentration of perfume oils without patchouli and cheap synthetic musk to make it project is over. I smelt this on my skin and bought 3 more back-ups. I have Joy Forever in the EDP.

This is a beautiful peach and rose scent with a hint of spice. There is a nice old school 'perfume' vibe about it - which I am fond of. Some of the reviews state that it disappears really quickly, but I do not find this. This is a very very light fragrance on the opening, but it deepens with time and lasts all day. It may be temperature dependent - I live in a warm climate.

Nice peachy galbanum citrus floral. It has the Jean Patou DNA all over it, but it is not an outstanding amber floral. It gives you a soapy, powdery clean feeling, but doesn't knock you over with some intriguing scent. Still, I'm glad to add it to my Jean Patou collection. It's definitely classy, so you will not be disappointed.

It is a great fragrance. At last Jean Patou is back thanks to the talent of the new perfumer. My wife tried it and had only compliments about it. I really love it on her. It is right in the Patou spirit! It is elegant as rich with the typical Patou's floral accord.

I've seriously slept on this fragrance. It's nothing like Sublime, it's a light, fresh, older sister to PDM Delina.

The house of Jean Patou will discontinue its fragrances, get your hands on these before they are gone forever.

I still stand by my review, well in a way. It was the way I felt at the time after thinking about Joy Forever for 2 days. I will say I have never been this wishy washy w/ a perfume before. I have a mini EDP and I have been on a massive buying spree, buying as many Jean Patou fragrances as I can before they are gone. I'm retired and this has been a dream of mine since I was a child to have a large collection of perfumes. Anyway, I still think this fragrance smells like a clean tee shirt perfume. Maybe the reason for that is I use natural laundry soap and fabric softener. This has that clean musky scent of freshly laundered blankets. I didn't think I would want to smell like that but as I kept revisiting my little bottle the fragrance kept growing on me. It is so abstract that I think there are times when a perfume like that really fits the bill. So I went and bought a large bottle. Joy Forever, it may have taken forever for me to appreciate you but you wore me down and won me over.

I was given a bottle of this from a friend last week. She is a 65 year old alcholic who has lived a full adventurous life. She knows a good perfume. She knows the history of Jean Patou. She thought I might like to be introduced to a new old scent. This has an old familiar comfort to it. It is not over powerful at any point. Others who complain about its staying power are either using the eau toilette or just dont get it. I believe the marigold and amber is what gives it the warmth that lingers on the skin for a long time. It doesnt wander far from you to annoy those around you. It sits close, so only those you invite near will be seduced. I like it. But it isnt for everyday. It is for intimate occasions.

Spring skin test. I will preface by saying I largely dislike vintage scents. This could be in that class, however I have been surprised. Most vintage scents (see the notes above) have a sharp bitter aldehydic slant to them. This one doesn't. The notes do not smell real - see the peach for example - this scent is gentle, slightly sweet in a mature way (not old fashioned though), slightly herbal without being green, it's gently floral. Yellow floral yes, but again not old old. Fresh (not today's freshie scent, laundry, dryer sheet) clean, soft, 'yellow', delicate like a posey of flowers, sits quietly on the skin and blended so well. I cannotvyet think of anything similar to compare for you...

Wow, this turned out to be a big surprise for me in a good way. I tested it at the mall and at first thought "Eh..." Walked around for an hour sniffing my wrist and still thought "Eh...probably not." There was a slight sharpness and a vintage-y vibe to it that I'm trying to like but actually don't. Went to a couple more places and on the way home I kept getting whiffs of a slightly powdery, seductive, slightly mysterious floral that I absolutely loved. I could not believe that is what this turned into! In about 3 hours it somehow moved from "Dislike" to "Next Buy". Some perfumes have a life of their own and aren't meant to be understood.

Joy forever when compared with her sisters, Joy, 1000, and Sublime, is like a debutante still green behind the ears but longing to be introduced to society. She is a bud not yet bloomed. Lovely as though she may be (especially the intermingling of jasmine and galbanum), she’s very much a wallflower. The notes are so well blended that nothing stands out as striking. Weak, under-performing, and easily forgotten in a sea of options, Joy Forever is not worth my hunting for a full bottle. I have experienced it from a 5ml EDP, and it will have to do.

Lancome's Poeme has been discontinued. Bottles are on display to clear stock. I tried a spray yesterday and was reminded of the bottle of Joy Forever that I have in my perfume drawer. Being an old duck gives you a body of comparison and I enjoyed the sliding door whoosh back to the 80s. It does use the 'Joy' base for this flanker. Consigned to history, I think, there are better classics.

This is lovely. Reminds me of Estee Lauder's Beautiful. If the green and fruit notes in Beautiful moved to the forefront, and the florals moved to the background. The florals here are squeaky clean, in the same style as 1993's Fleur de Rocaille. I don't find it sexy or provocative. Its not sweet or dry. Just calm and comforting. I'm surprised this wasn't more popular.

I gave this to my mom and enjoyed catching a whiff of it on her. An unusual feminine floral (but not sweet) scent. Aromatic is a good word for it. There was something about it that bothered her so she stopped wearing it. Test it if you can.

I actually received a manufacturer sample with a purchase from a German fragrance shop. I cannot smell ANYTHING....well, I smell a "little" of something but cannot identify any ONE note at all. Surprised at how very weak this is....

This Joy cannot be as disappointing as a rollercoaster ride that doesn't scare you one bit. I don't know why I used that comparison, but you get my point. It is a lovely fragrance of flowers and sweet whispers ... OF LIES !!! The scent does not last long. This bottle is truly such a waste of money, being a tad on the pricey side. As much as I love Joy (my Mom's signature fragrance). This Forever... what an irony ! Scent-wise, it is worth taking home. Then you realize, "oh well... I can't seem to leave the bottle home because as soon as I step out of the house, the smell is gone." Why, oh why?

Dull, so dull. These musk heavy & dry wood bases are dated and generic to me. Nothing memorable, slightly irritating and quite artificial smelling. Thomas Fontaine made such an amazing effort with the Heritage collection for Patou but Joy Forever is a pass.

11/24/22 - just ugh. I will not make myself wear this. I bought this on EBay. I have nothing to compare it to. It's probably legit but it smells like bug spray and makes me lightheaded. . I wish I liked this but It's time to cut my losses. Update 10/10/22 - This has settled in the bottle a little. I still do not like it much but I'm picking up on the florals more. There is a pungency to the opening that is off putting too me and by the time it settles, the perfume has become almost a skin scent. I'll hang on to it for awhile but it won't get much wear. Maybe I will grow into it. There are very few perfumes that I won't give ample skin time to see if they will grow on me. I have given some perfumes away but have never literally thrown one away. I value the money spent on them. 10/2021 - Ugh! This is an obnoxious floral on me and makes me feel light headed. The bouquet is somewhat aldehydic in nature and the white musk is sharp and angular. Definitely not a safe blind purchase. I will leave it on the shelf for a year and see if it will settle. If not, I will throw it out.

The original Joy by Jean Patou never agreed with my chemistry. It smelt like I had rolled around in cat pee all morning and then fed the cows, leaving a residual scent of hay on my skin. Surprisingly on my mother's skin, Joy is a totally different scent; a rich red rose with a touch of clean musk. I was tentative to test Joy Forever just in case I had a similar experience. Thankfully, I did not. Joy Forever is a very pleasant peach-centred floral. It smells a little antiquated, possibly due to the fact that it is trying to appeal to wearers of the original Joy. I would describe it as a naturally-sweetened, mature floral fragrance with dominant notes of bergamot, peach, marigold, jasmine, rose and sandalwood. Jean Patou as a brand may have lost its luxury standing by infiltrating the discount stores, yet there is still an air of opulence which is easily smelt when sampling their line. Joy Forever has a similarly clean, crisp and airy opening to the original Joy. The bergamot accord really lifts this fragrance, making it the perfect choice for a warmer day. I feel a little out of place wearing Joy Forever, possibly due to my young age. I'm definitely not labelling this fragrance an "old lady" scent by any means, but I do find it a more mature fragrance, one that would appeal to and smell best on a more mature woman. Joy Forever had a rather subtle projection on my skin, however, the longevity was superb. Some department stores still stock Joy Forever, but I would recommend checking the discount stores first as in some cases bottles of Joy Forever can be sourced for almost $100 less than the recommended retail price.

A few months ago I was becoming more interested in perfumes. I bought a lot of samples myself. Then, my partner surprised me with a lovely white case with small drop bottles of five Jean Patou perfumes. When I wore this one, he said pleasantly, “You smell like flowers!” I have a vintage style and tend to like old-fashioned things, so I might notice the “maturity” of this scent less. I am a big fan of Chanel No. 5, but I don’t like most of the really old-fashioned perfumes (I tried Mitsouko and smelled like a baby powder fragrance factory exploded on me). Once Joy Forever settles on my skin, I notice an aroma of fresh-cut roses and jasmine/white floral with a bit of green, without a hint of powdery-ness. I actually think this is a very good spring and summer perfume, and don’t notice oriental notes much.

Joy Forever is so likeable and easy to wear. The EDP is truth in labeling - a beautifully blended perfume smell. No individual notes, rather the kitchen sink method produces a seamless bouquet which, furthermore, combines perfume genres. For example it's fruity but which fruit? Orange? Peach? Bergamot? A blend. It has a nectary impact but it's not all that sweet. A little bit oriental. Has an old fashioned perfume impact (the Patou reference) and modern designer impact, so I suppose it's timeless. Over a few months I've come to know Fontaine's perfumes and they are tasteful, composed, elegant.

Not a review. I am curious why heaps of Patou fragrances are newly available, in sealed boxes, on grey market but trusted online shops. Where did all this come from? Old stock in LVMH warehouses? Wouldn't those have been sold to online shops 2-3 years ago? Is LVMH possibly mixing new vats? Voyageur is suddenly available again. And Joy Forever, in both EDP and EDT, in all sizes. Coming from where? Any ideas? PS Joy Forever is quite nice.

I received a sample of this for Beauty Week at one of the department stores. It is floral and then dries down to sweet, but it is very faint and doesn't last particularly long. I'm sure this is not cheap, but it feels that way... My husband described it as "a little perfumy", which is a review on the side of negative for him (if it really bad, his face will literally turn red). I don't think this is worth it, but that's just me.

To state/vote that this one smells like Chamade or similar is either you don't have a nose at all, you you haven't smell them in the same decade. Chamade is heavy green, woody, aldehydic, vintage, with just two flowers aldready dead. Joy Forever is a floral with zesty notes, and the galbanum in here is so nice and friendly- like an orange peel. Chamde is the expression of old school vintage. This one is joyful and sparkly.

I will definitely have to try this one but am concerned about the marigold overshadowing the other flowers as I find it to be quite pungent! Guess the only way to tell is to try it on my skin - if it is very carefully blended the other notes are good. I see that Thomas Fontaine is the nose behind the fragrance so one would assume it will be the very best! Glad it is not a "flanker" and is a "new perfume". Alexandrarae

This could have been made by Sophia Grosjman! Peach, spicy rose and a warm hug. If you like Beautiful this is a lovely distant relative. Has a floriental note reminiscent of Poison hidden in there too. The sad part - the journey is over pretty quickly. Not a lot of staying power here. Feel free to spritz away safely. Half an hour and the story is pretty much told. I want more from it, not a one night stand.

Another name for this "Joy" could be "Don't Bother". Terrible blind buy. It turned to a skin scent in under 45 minutes. I can only detect the inoffensive florals and a little weak amber note if my nose is pressed against my skin. Now I know why I got my barely used 30ml for $12.

I really want to try this, it sounds soft and gentle, fresh and really feminine. I have no more idea rather than the description above and reviews down,but it really looks not from the current trends and fads of woody/woody/woody and woody.

Thin light inoffensive citrusy floral at first (smells nothing like the original Joy by the way.) Lasting power is very poor - it was gone within an hour or so. Very overpriced and so not worth it.

Joy Forever is inoffensive and very ladylike. It’s both creamy and soapy on my skin, definitely more fruity than fresh or floral. I’ll stick to Trèsor for my 90’s peach fix, but this is decent!

A fine gorgeous smooth sweet version of Balmain Ivoire to my nose... Scent is lovely but low silage.

This is clean, soft and a bit synthetic. Good for hot weather, white t-shirt and jeans.

Full review to come later but this is most certainly NOT edp strength.
