Funny to see this edition on Fragrantica. There are some new bottles still in shops in Switzerland for 1100 to 1300 bucks. 15ml. Guess what? I found a new, 15 ml Joy pure parfum, produced in 2015, in the bezeled rectangular bottle - and it's crystal, too. And for under 100 bucks. Just got it today. Miracle! 100 bucks isn't free. It seems about the right price for 15ml of pure parfum. This bottle was retailing for almost 300 bucks a few years ago, in high street department stores. One would need to be very rich to peel off 1000+ bucks on a Baccarat bottle of the same juice, and feel fun about it. I have less than 10 pure parfum classics. They are all more subtle than EDPs and EDTs. Richer, but not powerhouses. Here, the jasmine is DEEPLY aromatic, but the effect is that jasmine is layered over rose, or built on a rose base. Not a rose forward perfume. No skank yet, but I pray it comes out during some future wear. It's only several hours in that it's more rosy than jasmine. That's nice when it happens, it's subtle reversal of the pyramid. Very pleased with myself for this relative bargain on a rare bottle. PS, my favorite pure parfum so far is good old modest Red Door.

I'm fortunate to enjoy 2 of these Baccarat *JOY* parfum bottles in my fragrance collection, 1 was produced by P&G back in the early 1980's and the other I use in my rotation of pure parfuims not sure of it's age although the juice is heavenly &"tre au courant"... heavy on the rose & jasmine. The Baccarat flacons are definitely crystal works of art, mine are beautifully & skilfully rendered by the artisans at Baccarat, perfect in every way with hand etched numbers on both stopper and base as is the custom with high end perfume bottles, although this model is easily up-ended if not careful when handling, more so for looks rather than everyday use, also heavily faceted so the light plays prismatically just like a diamond in the sun, the black flaconettes on the other hand are just as charming though sadly not made by the same illustrious glassworks mentioned here, grab a bottle if you have the opportunity & the price is right, supplies new & lovingly used are now becoming harder to find as they are no longer in production. . .

I acquired a bottle of this for a steal, and it's of course just good ol' Joy parfum in a beautiful bottle. I'm always glad to find it since it's a legend and discontinued now. It's primarily just gorgeous rose and jasmine de grasse to my nose, with a lot of airy civet. Civet rarely smells fecal to me, except the synthetic version in modern Shalimar EdP, but instead it has an almost metallic, radiant quality. I'm very pleased to have this edition, and I always grab Joy when I can since there will never be more of it, but the opening keeps me from reaching for it often. The opening can be very sharp on me, like rose oil more than a rose, and with intense aldehydes. It almost goes sour. But after a few minutes it's just so smooth and lovely. Joy is really one of a kind, and it's unfortunate it's not being made anymore.
