Sublime Eau de Parfum

My EDP dates to 2015. It goes on well mixed to the center notes - instant powder. Sublime has that Patou bouquet impact - buzzing vibrations that orbit around you. One of the coziest yet most beautiful EDPs I know. My interest in fragrance multiplied exponentially during the first wave of COVID in 2020. I was often feeling lonely and recognized that fragrances are something dynamic that can accompany me. I don't and can't have a pet. Fragrance is, after all touching me, and its enveloping me. Skin to air to nose and back out.You see we help and support fragrance quite physically. It's not the same at all as room scent. It would be difficult to feel lonely wearing something so gorgeous yet homey and unpretentious as Sublime, because I feel my body and mind help create how gorgeous it is and it returns energy to me as well. Sublime has a very slap-dash effortless "perfumed skin" effect. Can you remember the odor of a young person you loved? (Or maybe you're lucky enough to have a young lover now!). It's that luscious healthy but seductive human scent multiplied, and blended with flowers and musks and slightly sweet ambers. Be kind and generous to yourself and have a sniff of Sublime if you can find a tester somewhere. Some traditional fragrance shops are marking it UP considering it rare. Yet some online stores are marking it down, considering it a remainder. My Sublime EDP 75ml cost me under 40 bucks. Prices seem to vary widely by seller, and they also fluctuate wildly month to month. It's a bargain and a great buy for 50 bucks or under. I don't know how much stock is still available. It seems, actually, quite a bit, as this fire sale has been going on a year now and it's still easy to find.

This is a beautiful perfume. I am wearing my sample today. I felt bad that this house is no more and their fragrances have been discontinued. This is by today's standards a very old fashioned fragrance. This is they type of fragrance that could be a signature for a very classy, upscale woman. It is woody and citrus in the opening but then melts down to a beautiful wearable powdery scent that is a mix of florals and musks. It is slightly soapy but warmer than most soapy scents. The tonka bean give this a slight vanilla smell in the drydown. I would say it is woody, creamy, soapy, warm, floral, and powdery. What a shame this will not be made anymore. I have ordered many, many bottles of Sublime, enough to last me the rest of my life. I have looked high and low for a perfume that could be my signature scent. I've been on and off w/ perfume for many, many years. I started collecting during the Covid lockdowns and got heavily into naturals which I love, I love all the perfumes I have purchased. But when I read the article that Jean Patou was folding I thought I should sample a few before they are gone. I fell hard for Sublime and when I smelled it I thought this is the fragrance I have been searching for my whole life. If I had to pick 1 fragrance and only 1 for the rest of my life it would be Jean Patou's Sublime.

Other reviewers have done justice in describing this perfume, so I won't make any efforts to iterate what has already been written. I will add that sublime is to me a woody, slightly powdery (orris) with a spicy carnation, ylang-ylang heavy, amber warm, full bodied floral. The most interesting note to me is the clove-like, slightly peppery carnation. This is an old school woody floral that is not at all dated and irrelevant. Opulent is the word that comes to mind whenever I apply this fragrance. There is nothing nouveau riche about it. Wearing it, I feel as though I have walked through a painting and have been transported back into a time where women were ladies and men, gentlemen- the old glory days all bottled up in one 5ml dab bottle. I purchased the 75ml EDP soon after as I reasoned that if Patou fragrances are to be no more, then I must have the biggest bottle within my reach. At first, I found it hard to wear Sublime to anything other than special occasions and to bed in silk. But in combining Sublime with Oscar de la Renta's Oscar EDT, the sophisticated floral becomes more accessible. Of the house's chypre florals, Sublime is my favourite. It is oh so sublime!

As my fragragrance journey has progressed, it's detoured into a side obsession with collecting chypres of the 70's, 80's and early/mid-late 90's (pre IFRA.) I've just sampled the current iteration of the pure olfactive artistry that is, Jean Patou Paris', Sublime EDP. I approached this one cautiously, as I wasn't thrilled with the floral overload that is 1000, and found Joy Forever, to be reserved, unassuming and rather boring. Sublime, however, with its bitter green and big orange opening is another animal altogether! The depth and density of this creation must be experienced by the fragrance enthusiast her or himself as the fragrance blooms on the skin. A green, citrus, floral, spicy, musky, ambery, and powdery rainbow languishly reveals itself. But, the dry down is my favorite! A deep, rich, slightly powdery and very classy long lingering scent is the pot of gold at the end of this rainbow! THIS is classic! If you haven't sampled Sublime yet, do so before this treasure is gone forever! I'll be stocking up! 😉

Review for EDT Truly exceptional. I find there is a difference between EDT and EDP, namely I would describe EDT as more of a Musk perfume rather than Chypre. Yes, there is oakmoss at drydown, but the musk note is dominant throughout. It must be one of the nicest musk notes ever. Seductive would be an appropriate way to describe it. Nothing bitter, sour etc... It reminds me of the type of musk in a Serge Lutens (I am thinking of Clair de musc and Nuit de cellophane.) When it finally reaches drydown and blends with the oakmoss, the result is out of this world. I can't think of many compositions that impress me so much. There is plenty of ylang throughout, which somehow miraculously avoids being shower-gel like. Outstanding. Don't mean to repeat what others have mentioned; why would something like this be discontinued.

The House of Jean Patou never fails. With Sublime it has created a most classy elegant chypre, not too soapy nor too tart, with enough balancing of the green notes by warm florals, sweet citrus, woods and spices, and the signature JP musk base. A perfect dry down, not too creamy nor too powdery, into a luscious earthy ambre veil. A tad sweeter than Y but less so than the legendary fruity floriental JP For Ever, less aldehyde (obvs) than no.5, this is a very wearable oldskool feel chypre that never disappoints. Beautiful!

This EDP goes straight to my dopamine receptors delivering vibrations of comfort, safety and beauty. Turin remarked that Sublime "passes the hardest test for any feminine fragrance: it makes a sensational masculine." It isn't "pretty", says Turin. And it does not sparkle. It's a fantastic powder perfume without being insipid, sentimental, infantile. Rather than powder, I'd call it haze. Hazy languid perfume. Also, a kissing cousin to Chanel Coco EDP.

i am trying this from a vintage vial. for me this starts with the oakmoss and coriander, followed shortly by vetiver and carnation. this smells a bit spicy and a bit musty on me. finally after awhile i get that beautiful amber and ylang ylang and it's really lovely. the oakmoss is there but a lot less prominent than in the beginning. it blossoms into a warm spicy floral. gorgeous.

I should have bought this one years and years earlier. The Ylang-ylang is there and somehow it gives it a rich soapy smell, but not a heavy soapy smell. Heavenly! Very classy.

I can’t get enough of it -especially as it fades into that warm divine deliciousness. Older bottle had (other than the obvious) a floral cap, it was perfection.

A fragrance rich in depth and somewhat loudly discreet. Fine pleasure.

Definitely a chypre, but warmer than most, with a golden aura. The ylang is dominating together with gentle aldheides and a spicy carnation. You feel elevated, clean, posh but very comfortable at the same time. Sublime, in word! (pun intended). Sublime manages to make you feel cozy yet keeping your stance towards the world. This is a classic fragrance that fails to be understood nowadays, it is an acquired taste and to younger noses it may feel dated. I feel sad the Patou house is out of business now, they had real gems. Edit April 2022: i wore this today on a hot spring day. It was more more than sublime: it was the sexiest frag I've worn in months. Somehow the warmth of my skin and the air were emphasising the sweet apricot and ylang notes. The spices were amped up too. After 6 hours I am still getting wafts of this love potion and am enthralled. I liked it a lot before but now i am getting 2 more backup bottles.

Sublime is a beautiful old school floral bouquet that is a must in my spring perfume wardrobe. I get a little bit of aldehydic vibes, but just enough to add some airiness without turning the fragrance dry. The notes are well blended, so that you get an impression of a colder and wet spring morning in a flower garden. Longevity on my clothes is easily 24 hours, but without leaving an enormous sillage. Sublime is one of the tamer and friendlier fragrances in the floral chypre category, and those who shy away from the dryness of some chypre perfumes might still appreciate this one.

I dislike vintage scents. This one is slightly doable. I'll tell you what this isnt: it's not scratchy like chanel number 5, nor like Arpels first.. This one is gentler, not airy powdery like Kenzo flower... this is more rounded talc without going bitter or sharp. It verges on vintage without going the whole hog. Smooth, slightly sweetened talc smooth powdery, clean, rounded... Not aldehydic, nor really soapy

A chypre version of Samsara. And Sublime's ylang ylang has more of a waxy quality the way Francesca Bianchi's fragrance DNA's have. Overall it's quite subdued for a chypre. Leans unisex. The ylang makes it a bit more feminine.

Another absolute gem from the glorious and now sadly defunct House of Jean Patou. Sublime is a marvellously warm golden chypre; while it is very different from Joy or 1000, it is no less of a masterpiece. I am terribly sad about Patou shutting down... frankly, it’s tragic. I’m trying to buy up as much Patou as I can, and luckily the prices aren’t obscene (yet). Any perfume collector or lover should try Sublime. I’m so very lucky to have this beauty in my collection. Furthermore, I feel we Patou lovers should strongly encourage DUA to compose their version of Sublime and Joy and 1000 as they so often do for impossible classics and what not (their Caron Tabac Blond is incredible, by the way! It’s composed after the original Tabac Blond, not the watered down floral stuff they make now).

I am not a huge fan of vintage but as far as vintage ambers go this one IS sublime. Lots of nice creamy amber, a tropical ylang sweetening it up, and overall nice and resinous. The carnation, oakmoss and myriad of florals and civet definitely give it that vintage bygone era feel, however as opposed to the soapy florals and aldehydes of the past, ambers I can enjoy. Won't be my pick of a full bottle but definitely enjoyable to test. Sometimes I think that the more a perfume tries to tell me how much I’ll love it, the worse it will smell on me. Sublime, Euphoria, Extatic, etc. If they ever come out with a perfume called “You Will Smell Bad and Have No Friends,” that’ll be the one for me I’m sure. I love Patou, I love Sira Des Indes, Joy Forever (and I have 1000 kicking around somewhere), but Sublime just turns to rancid baby powder on my skin, though the smell from the nozzle is lovely. If only Patou had made “Subpar” instead we’d probably get along.

Orange floral, first thought of it as an evening scent but I've been wearing it all day today. Initially an old fashioned musky orange on my skin, dry down not sweet. Orange musk thereafter, rich. Does appear to have a gentle fade away while I'm still craving that initial waft. I would be reapplying 'Sublime' by Jean Patou at least once through an evening out.

@ Salinas for me it will be the “ I Will Be Discontinued Because You Like Me” perfume. I swear every single thing I love gets discontinued or impossible to find 🤦🏻♀️
