What can i say, this is the "vintage snobs" aquatic. And in my opinion, its kinda glorious. Smells quite a bit upscale from something like cool water (especially current) and polo sport, but still has the aquatic thing crammed in there. Suprised oakmoss isnt one of the biggest notes on the chart, this is an oakmoss bomb frankly. The oakmoss and the allegedly mysore sandalwood make this deep, rich and luxurious. Besides being the vintage snobs aquatic, this could just be the snob in generals aquatic: this does not smell cheap, yet IS an aquatic. Prices have been rising slowly...this was always one of the most hidden of hidden gems. I agree with the review below, patou forcing kerleo to make an aquatic along with his stubborness combined with his skill and pride resulted in a unique and awesome creation in spite of its apparent destiny. The other review comparing it to cool water...im sorry but i disagree and i have a 1990 bottle of cool water as well as a 2003 and a 2010s bottle. Its like when people say GIT is identical to cool water...i enjoy my vintage CW very much in its own right, yet the GIT is absolutely better quality BUT also different. I dont think Voyaguer smells much like CW or GIT.

I am so fond of Jean Patou and Kerloo. I’m male but really enjoy wearing 1000 , Joy, ma Liberte and eau de Patou( my go to summer citrus floral- which layers so well with other fragrances like Boucheron pour homme .... ) Although I am 55 and experienced the shift from 80s power houses to the aquatics - as a collector I don’t own many aquatics from the 90s and beyond- I have the original Lancaster cool water . I’ve been curious about this one for a long time, but shied away from purchasing due to the negative reviews. I’ve just managed to purchase a bottle in the UK at a reasonable price. I’m so glad I did. I totally agree with the seasoned officianados making the point that we should not judge kerloo based on our expectations of his usual genius in perfume mastery , but to Simply appreciate voyageur for what it is. And, I’m glad his stubbornness and refusal to bow completely to the pressure to fall in line with the current trend using aroma chemicals lead to this wonderful mismatch of two genres .personally it really works for me with the oak moss cedar and sandalwood base - the transition from top notes into dry down really works on my skin.

If you like oakmoss, especially if you wish more of it was in the popular aquatics from the 90s...this is it. JJ says the buttery aspect is from the sandalwood, and i trust his judgement 100%. But i do notice a buttery aspect with oakmoss absolute when it dries down. So both (in my estimation) the sandalwood and oakmoss create this really creamy luxurious buttery facet that is unique to any aquatic ive literally ever smelled. This is nowhere near something like acqua di gio. It smells like something that would have been made when they started experimenting with the aquatic style in the 1980s, from when ocean rain and new west were made. But this has the heaviest, thickest and probably most beautiful base of those. Not as complicated as kerleos other fragrances, but an achievement considering what the brief he recieved probably sounded like.

I am such a great fan of Jean Patou and I am very grateful to own some of the earlier iterations of Joy 1000. - eau de patou , ma Liberte ..... , so why does this get all the hate? I understand as a Dior fan, early 80s and also most recently Dior Homme 2007 - 2011. Then 2014 with the parfum . I think the problem is die hards do not appreciate a shift or changing direction . Likewise, perfumers who truly believe in using the best natural ingredients , would have turned their back on the tidal wave of aroma chemical aquatics of the early 90s. So, here we have a citrus aquatic with oak moss true not synthetic, that would rival And layer very well with some of the most recently hyped LV and other top end citrus Aquatics that have become popular again

Does it fall in the "Cool Water" category? Yes, and there is a lot of frags in that category. I have a few, and this is the one I like the best. It have stand the test of time the best, and to me there is something that sets it a part from the rest. Bought three week prior to the sad end of Jean Patou for a very low price.

I had this VOYAGEUR b4 , very nice perfume , now only left the metal boat and the bottle . hope this perfume will back to the market ........

A shame it is discontinued, a very nice floral, woody scent.

I stumbled upon several boxes still in their cellophane so I bought them. The bottle is exactly correct, 50ml version, and the box is correct, but the box is mostly silver, with a blue label, with raised ridges, not the blue and box I see in ALL pictures for the entire run. Inside the box, there is a tiny fold out brochure from Patou about this "new" fragrance. The only number on the box, possibly a batch code, is AP004OBG, and reveals nothing on checkfresh. I've tried all the versions of of O and 0. I am wondering when this batch was produced. It can't possibly be fake because who would go to the trouble? I just paid USD 20 per box so nobody is making money. I can't remember where I read it, a well known fragrance reviewer's site but which one? a mention that Voyageur made a brief reappearance in the oughts? IFRA oakmoss step downs were 2001 and 2011. I doubt my bottles have the treasured dose. Or maybe my bottles are ancient. The box says Made in France. All very confusing. The fragrance is pleasant and I will wear it this summer. Despite the many not unreasonable quibbles connoisseurs have expressed about Kerleo's supposed flop. Update. I opened another of these 50ml cellophane wrapped boxes. The fragrance bottle inside is exactly like the blue bottle but it is entirely chromed. The fragrance is softer. I've have found no further information. This box as the code AP004OBF.

The first thing I can say about this one is that it is not nearly as bright-smelling as I expected it to be. I get fleeting citrus notes and possibly some lavender at the beginning that are already getting overwhelmed by a very mossy base. In fact this strong base pretty much obliterates everything in its path, and thus the fragrance quickly ends up smelling deep and masculine, but dour (analogous to a murky brown-grey-purplish hue: puce) and not worthy of any compliments IMO. Perhaps this is how it was intended to smell as it does have an authentic marine/oceanic smell, albeit more like Bognor Regis beach on a cold overcast day replete with seaweed and other decomposing wooden debris, rather than the sunny Med. On a more positive note, the bijou deep blue bottle and silver lid are quite classy and elegant. I clearly remember I had the chance to buy Voyageur when it was launched in 1995 but rejected the idea due to its lack of excitement and interest. I feel that something is missing in its composition. Thus for a much nicer and more complete take on this kind of smell, I recommend you try Aqua Quorum, which has a remarkably similar deep mossy base but somehow manages to retain an appealing freshness and "joie de vivre" throughout its development with the judicious use of grapefruit and freesia.

What 'fresh' used to be like. Might not be Kerleo's best, but it was designed to be a safe choice. @Alphairone's review is spot on: "base of buttery sandalwood and a heap of oakmoss".

Voyageur was a blind buy I impulsively purchased, one because it's dirt cheap, and two because it has a very cool bottle. Unfortunately this blind buy was unsuccessful however, as it does not embody the class, sophistication and ingenuity which I associate with the Jean Patou brand. Instead it feels somewhat lifeless and forgettable. It feels very clearly inspired by Cool Water which came a few years prior, which is exactly what I was reminded of when I first sprayed it - a very familiar soapy aquatic accord. From there it begins to develop into its own thing, becoming noticeably more woody, fresh spicy, and 'aftershave-y'. The woody, slightly herbal facet is more modern and reminiscent of more current designer perfumes, but always with that subtle whisper of Cool Water in the background. It's not an unpleasant scent, but it pales in comparison to Cool Water, which I love. Especially since price-wise the two are on a very similar playing field, I would ignore this and go straight for Cool Water if you're looking for a classy soapy-aquatic scent.

I expected a lot more and a different scent, I'm disappointed, it has no resemblance to Cool Water.

Perfumer Jean Kerléo, co-founder of l’Osmothèque, creator of the exquisite Patou 1000, must have dreaded having to make an aquatic men’s fragrance in 1995. What he created is at least an interesting comment on life post-Cool Water. Even in 1995 the release of an aquatic fragrance would have been met with tedium and low expectation. It was 7 years after the release of Cool Water, and while there had been hundreds of imitators, Cool Water was still king. In fact Cool Water created another slot to be filled in the roster of every perfume house. A new genre had been created! Each one needed an aquatic/calone/fougère fragrance in their line-up, and the challenge was to create one that met the expectations of the market and at the same time reflected your brand. Tough for Patou. Aqua-Joy anyone? Sublime Water? The crux of this dilemma is creating something to reflect your brand while at the same time appealing to the broad masculine market. This genre, the fruity masculine aquatics, had a cultish aspect to it and straying from the known was tacitly discouraged. Once a certain safe island of perfume is reached by men, change is considered a threat to self image. Kerléo’s solution? So far as I can tell, what Jean Kerléo did was to create a pleasant, recognizable citric aquatic top note, then fold it into a mossy, woody base. The result is a perfume that had recognizability in the form of a pan-masculine aquatic note, but had a warmer dry down than Cool Water's chilly metallic vibe. It seems like a slapdash approach, a little of this, a little of that, stir and spritz. But I must say that this is the most appealing of the aquatics I've smelled. The top note is an aquatic collage, but it doesn't appear to have been made by rote, and has a tangy citric astringency in lieu of a clanging metal note. The overall effect is that Kerléo has managed to make a demi-chypre out of Cool Water DNA. While Voyageur doesn't have quite the classic ambery dry down of a chypre, the top note of grapefruit stands in for bergamot and a large helping of oakmoss does the rest. I wanted to try Voyageur for quite a while. I love Patou pour homme and was curious about another creation of Kerleo. Voyageur gets mixed reviews and I'm somewhere in the middle. A bit boring fragrance. The top notes are forgettable. In the drydown there is something I like, fruity and fresh but it's faint and weak. Too bad, I expected more of this! 6/10 Edit: tried it again today. It is lacking some excitement. However, I like it more now, it's actually quite natural smelling. Lots of green. Maybe I should increase my grade: 7/10

This stuff is great. Fresh citrus opening on a nice layer of lavender and sage. The cedar and oakmoss hint through early on, and it progresses into a mid drydown of all notes coming together with that creamy sandalwood. There's a nice phantom spearmint note in there somewhere too. I don't see much similarity to Cool Water but some similarity with Yves Rocher Antartic. It's a nice early fresh fruity blue aquatic. I really enjoy it. 8/10.

They call this a 'woody aromatic', but there's something so marine-like about 'Voyageur' (maybe the name is misguiding my nose). The bottle looks generic and non-descript -- likewise smells the juice. Very basic -- smells 'unskilled' if I can say so. A `Perfume School Confidential` kind of a thing.If you don't like to stand out in a crowd, wear it.

If you like lavender, cedar, oakmoss and sandalwood you get it with this. It lasts about 5-6 hours on me personally and like to use it on hot days as the perfume feels good for it. Moderate projection but mostly close to skin after 2 hours Not a love for me as much as Ma Liberte but worth having in your rotation for hot days.

Voyageur demonstrates Jean Kerleo's permanent foot in the past as the first half of its development is a somewhat more refined Cool Water, yet this seems grafted over a signature Kerleo base of buttery sandalwood and a heap of oakmoss. It is fascinating for sure, but not a high point for Jean Patou or perfumery in general.

I use to wear it daily for many years!!! great scent!!! masculine and elegant!!! It ́s very sad that it ́s discontinued... I still have the metal ship, I put a glass on it and it ́s now a candle holder in my room looking very elegant, it ́s one of my favorites objects ever!!!
