Le Male In The Navy

Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male In the Navy is pretty awesome. Is it original, no not at all. Is it generic, mostly. That said it has its own character to it. Unlike most Le Male and Le Male flankers, I don't think it is overpriced. I've made that comment several times. Why, it has maybe only one clear clone to it and I cannot even call that a clone, since both came out at the same time. Le Male In the Navy is aquatic throughout. It opens up with some mint, but it isn't overpowering. This gives it an Eros feeling. That said, it is more aquatic Eros since there is considerable watery notes in the open and the mid. The open is water and the mid is sea water, maybe some salt in it. In the base is a vanilla and ambergris mix. It is a very clean but sweet medium blue fragrance. Le Male in the Navy is similar to several fragrances. I already mentioned Eros and fragrances that smell like it. It also smells like Invictus and the dozens of clones. There are also some similarities to Yves Saint Laurent Y and Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue Sun Pour Homme. That said the fragrance that smells the closest to this to my nose is John Varavatos JVxNJ. The original blue bottle JVxNJ came out roughly at the same time as In the Navy with mostly similar notes. Pretty sure I smelt both in the same night and wondered if I smelt the same thing. JVxNJ isn't as widely available and has been discontinued so you may need to resort to In the Navy, but that is only because it is cheaper. Le Male in the Navy is a spring, summer and fall scent. It can be worn day and night. I do think it is damn near a skeleton key. While it has similarities to some fragrances, I do think that it isn't gonna be too close to "smell like an ex or brother." You will absolutely not smell like a date's father with it. I think it can work even dressed up because it is a clean smelling fragrance. You will also project pretty good with In the Navy and it lasts, so it can work in a club. Especially during summer nights. Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male In the Navy is a fragrance to get if you like Invictus but want something somewhat different to it. I am 99% sure this is why I love it. I rate it an 8.5 out of 10 for great performance, a great smell. The only knock if any is it smells like a number of fragrances on the market, even if it is better than some of the comparable options.

its not as sparkly mint as you ind in superman/popeye eau fraiche, i thought the opening was similar to dunhill icon racing and then goes towards new invictus aqua, but after an hour or so it changes...and to something nicer than the opening, it gets oceanic and fresh, like a sailor would portray, and gets sweeter with vanilla....not like le male show off kind but a gentle sailor who is soft/less spoken, and he sees a lot of the sea...reminded of roadster by cartier but not that intense or green, it say it has ambergris which is more likely to be ambroaxan, but it didnt annoy me....love the mid and base more than the opening. this is a nice fragrance for people who like ocean breeze minus the salt, like Erolfa, great under rated release....perfect time to wear is breezy summer days when its sunny :) 8/10

I bought this off of eBay and wow its the best fragrance I own. I went out to lunch just the other day and I got at least 4 compliments. Even my dad asked me to get this for him for his birthday lol. I got a 125ml for like $100 off of eBay so I don't have to worry about running out anytime soon. 10/10 fragrance. It really makes for a special spring/summer fragrance. The smell is super unique in my opinion and the longevity/projection is really good for me. My only complaint is that they discontinued it lol. Price: 10/10 (may vary since its only available on eBay now) Longevity: 8.5/10 (doesn't last quite all day but lasts closer to 6-7 hours) Projection: 9/10 (projects really nicely, doesn't annoy anyone but smells great) Smell: 10/10 (I can't say I've ever had an aquatic fragrance like this one)

After purchasing a 10ml decant and blowing through that I ended up picking up a new tester bottle at a good price on ebay. I recently sold my bottle of Popeye eau freiche, for me it was too sweet/juvenile and I just couldn't wear it anymore. This however is much more mature. I love the fresh vibrant opening and the vanilla drydown on my skin is so smooth. I would gladly choose this over most of the boring aquatic fresh scents out there other than Invictus Aqua (2016). Longevity is not as bad as some people have mentioned, but its not beast mode. I would say average. But then again I don't need a fragrance to last me 9 hours if i'm only going out for a few. Easy dumb reach freshie for going out to the store or the gym. I asked my lady friend's opinion and she definitely liked it!

This smells like the best JPG to me personally and it is very versatile. While I do agree this does resemble that vanilla scent you get from Eros, I would say you could wear this outside of the club and smell fresh and sexy which I personally disagree with Eros. It has vanilla but a great aquatic scent making you feel sexy and warm with the vanilla bean and the aquatic scent makes you feel much lighter than Eros so you can keep the party going. Definitely one of my favorite scents. As for the person below who says it smells like Nautica Voyage: Either you got ripped off on the smell, or you shouldn't comment on scents because I have the two bottles next to each other and no one would ever get these confused with each other.

As described in my previous reviews about Jean Paul Gaultier colognes, this is a classic 'Le Male' release; seductive, smooth and addictive. I bought 'Le Male In The Navy' as a blind buy with total confidence I would like it; I absolutely love it. It reminds me of 'Versace Eros' but less mint yet more aquatic notes. 'In The Navy' has a certain saltiness from the ambergris note, although sweeter. Totally safe to wear on colder days, as well as warmer climates; very versatile. The only note that seems to be missing from most Jean Paul Gaultier colognes is lavender, but I'm glad this makes it more unique. I'm not yet convinced of the performance, however, I'm persuaded it will match or even outperform its older brothers.

I’ve had this fragrance for several years with limited usage. During that period it was just an okay dumb reach. Yesterday I decided to revisit and give it a go. Wow! What a difference a few years make! A few extra sprays (6-8), and wow, wow, wow! This smells so good! That mint, sea notes and vanilla combo really make this more than just a “dumb reach!” Even the Mrs. was taken aback, and trust me that’s easier said than done! This was money well spent. I definitely see this playing a more active part in my spring/summer rotation. If you can get your hands on this, I’d say go for it. A great compliment getter. Longevity; 5-6 hours, skin scent thereafter. Sillage: First -2-3 hours. Versatility: Spring and Summer 8/10

A Le Male for the summer! Popeye Eau Fraiche is a great, freshened-up take on the Le Male DNA but it's better suited for spring IMO. This fragrance is even more refreshing and sticks with 3 main accords; peppermint, aquatic notes, and vanilla. The note breakdown is spot on and paints a clear picture of what this smells like. It works really well in the heat and the vanilla doesn't make it too cloying. It does not smell terribly unique but it is pleasant and mass pleasing. Performance is not bad at all, given how summer fragrances tend to perform. I get at least 6 hours with solid projection for 1-2 hours. It has some staying power and will linger on your clothes and skin for an acceptable period of time. 7.5/10

I wasn't expecting a whole lot, going off of a lack of people talking about this. I managed to score a massive 6.7oz bottle during a flash sale on an impulse buy. Allure Homme Sport Eau Extreme was what it reminded me of at first, with a saltier mint, that dried down to a watery vanilla that I found simple, but enjoyable. I found myself reaching for it more and more during the latter half of the summer, and it worked really well for me as a morning work fragrance. The Chanel does this scent profile way, way better, but is also way more expensive. If you enjoy the mint/vanilla combo, I wouldn't dismiss this, especially if you can get it for a good deal.

Another year, another Le Male flanker. It's not all bad though, In The Navy is a nice aquatic and minty take on the original Le Male. There are noticeable water/sea notes, mint and vanilla while still having remnants of the original Le Male sweetness lurking in the background. It does also remind me of Eros a little bit. Performance is not bad but not as good as the original. I get good projection for the first hour or two, then it settles. Longevity is not bad, I get about 6 hours before needing to reapply. Overall, a good Le Male flanker suitable for warmer weather. Ratings Sillage: 7/10 Longevity: 7.5/10 Scent: 7.9/10

Bought this off eBay as a blind-buy and it has quickly become my favorite cologne. The opening of Le Male in the Navy is very strong with the mint, and it can be a bit polarizing. However, the opening quickly dries down into this beautiful ozonic/aromatic sweet scent that is oh so pleasant and up-lifting. It puts me in a good mood when I smell it. Yeah, it's simple, but man It's addictively good. Sillage wise, it does the job perfectly. People notice it on me and like it, without it being too much in their face. Projection wise, I get ~6+ hours. It astonishes me how it's discontinued. I can't get enough of it.

No idea why this one gets quite some hate. It is a wonderful summer flanker, really fresh with lots of watery and sea notes. It was quite a blind buy for me and I didn't regret it at all. This one is very far from the original Le Male and Ultra Male too. I already enjoy this one at work, it gives me confidence and freshness, while being as quiet as it has to be. This has the base DNA of Le Male, but it is not quiet as strong. I can see the similarities to Eros, but only similar not a clone by any means. The mint does shine in this and I definitely get the salty sea notes, they are in there for the long haul. It is a sweeter dry down but the freshness is still there. I like this and it is a decent warmer weather fragrance. But could be worn inside all year. I would give this a 7.5 out of 10. Could be higher if it lasted and projected more, on both accounts it is average, but the scent for me is really nice!

Update to my earlier review : As I had suspected, this fragrance shines in the cooler autumn days. The mint reminds me of the summer gone and the vanilla beckons the winter to come. It has a perfectly balanced density which is not fleeting and smooth enough to keep you safe and cozy. Whereas I would wear Eros in Winter and Spring because of its projection and loudness, in the autumn I would wear the hell out of In the Navy. It also lasts over 24 hours on clothes which is fantastic. It's now one of my favourite autumn fragrances :)

Opening is a great scent of citrus while it slowly mellows out and you really get the amazing smelling minty notes paired really nicely with vanilla. Just by inhaling this fragrance makes me feel refreshed and cooled. This would be a great fragrance to rock in the spring/summer, but I could see this worn as a signature scent as it's not too overly sweet, so perfect year-round. If you couldn't tell, I really like this and if you're a fan of sweet/fresh fragrances then I definitely recommend this.

I have quite a large collection, but there is something about In The Navy that really appeals to me and I want to reach for it often during the summertime. This is a perfect summer fragrance, but not your typical citrus based fragrance. The way the mint works with the marine notes on the base of their synthetic ambergris really hits the mark. This is a simple, easy to wear fragrance that, for me at least, has a sort of mood uplifting quality to it. Perfect for the warm, sunny days of summer.

My take on it, if versace eros and allure homme sport eau extreme made passionate long lasting love on the beach, in the navy was born. A long lasting light fresh sweet, really all year round fragrance down to a certain degree maybe. I fell in love with this scent in macys, during the winter. I get all the dislike because it is different from the jpg line, and veers in a whole different direction. But its still a great long lasting sweet summer fragrance.

My husband and I just happened to be walking through the fragrance section at Macy's tonight....and there sitting on the counter, all by itself, was a bottle of this new fragrance.....we both tried it and we both liked it right away! The more we smelled it....the more we liked it. My husband even said he thinks he wants to get a bottle. I totally approve! It's been a few hours since then and I can still smell it on my hand. Oh boy! Wow!! So YUMMY!!!

This smells nice, but do NOT get confussed with the mint note suggested, this is Peppermint, it smells like the actual branches of the mint. There are other Le Males that have mint like Aviator, Airlines, and Superman, but the mint in those smells like the actual mint leaf. Overall, it does smells really good, the ambergris is pushing the sea+watery combined with pepermint notes A LOT, it is a very pungent fragrance the first hour.

This is just a mellowed down version of Eros to me, like others have already stated. All likelihood Eros EDP might smell like this? A little cloying under summer heat but just about tolerable. I can't really smell any sea notes. I think it needs slightly cooler temperatures to shine. I'm not unhappy I bought it and will wear it, but given I have lots of Eros in my collection, it's very redundant.

I also wasn't expecting this. I thought it will smell something like Coolwater or Bvlagari Aqua. Le Male In The Navy smells good to me. Simple notes yet still able to give a bright sunshiny feel. Minty aquatic notes with vanilla and ambergris notes blend in so well altogether. Strong projection and the dry down is very nice! . And even after shower, can still smell the scent on my skin.

I get my bottle for a really cheap price and honestly with very low expectations for the reviews .... And what a great surprise!!! Yes, opens very similar to Eros but the magic of this fragance is the dry down when the sea and salty notes came across and change everything in a good way ! On my skin the performance is good , 6 to 7 hours with moderate projection!

This is it this is the best summer scent made by jpg not overly sweet minty fresh feels like you're in front of the beach drinking minty drink with a side of vanilla ice-cream strong projection for the first 2 hours 2.5... longevity pushing 9 hours this is an epic find for me. Glad i didn't overpay for it 75 usd for 125 ml!!!

I love this scent to death!!! However, it is a very weak performer, at least on my skin. I have to overspray this one just to get that sillage I like. This is actually very good! Vanilla note in the dry down it's so masculine and Le Malesh. Love it. Wish it would perform better so I don't have to pour half a bottle on myself :)) And... Gaultier, please keep making flankers of Le Male!!!

This is like Versace eros but not headache inducing. Something about it is much better. Got a 200ml for $60! I don’t need that much but you can definitely get a good value. Lasts long and smells good

I’ve likely left a positive review of this before. I’ll do so again because I just randomly pulled it off the shelf after anywhere from 6-12 months and, it’s just a damn good scent. That’s it.

Nice fragrance I like it. Different and rich. Sweet, spearmint, well blended, though you are dealing in synthetics here. Could compare to Prada Luna Rossa, but this is better.

Sweet minty fresh, lovely summer fragrance that lasts quite well but for me it doesn't seem to project greatly. If you can find this anywhere it's certainly worth a shot.

Aquatic, sure. But JPG always knocks it out of the park. Top notes give an Eros vibe, but infinitely more interesting and nuanced. I love it.

Don’t care for the opening,but the mid and dry down are very nice.doesn’t warrant some of the hate it gets

I was so excited when I herd of this frag and one of the perfumers Natalie.. I loved her le male eau fraiche. Not only that but the notes. When i realized it was a Macy’s exclusive I was totally upset and frustrated. Why would jpg make a fragrance exclusive to a store that does not ship out of country. Leaving out so many fans!!! Luckily I guy I know on eBay got me sold Me one. I had to since I’m a big le male fan. In the navy does not disappoint!! It’s amazing!! I love this scent and is a compliment magnet!! It definitely has a invictus vibe that salty marine aquatic wonderfully done. But with in the navy there’s a minty freshness in the opening alongside that invictus vibe. Once the mint dies down the Vanilla comes to light. Leaving you with a salty watery marine aquatic with a vanilla background. It’s so so nice! And it’s not a slouch either! People saying it’s terribly weak ???? It’s not obnoxious and loud where your gonna smell it twenty feet away and taste it!! Like some are. Not all frags are meant to be loud and obnoxious. Some are meant to be more casual and not suffocate everyone in the room. This frag won’t fill the room. But it will garnish compliments from those who matter. When this frag first arrived I sprayed myself. And four or five days later the shirt still smells amazing.

On my skin this is an aquatic salty freshie that dries down to a mild but pleasant vanilla in about 3 to 4 hours. It's easy and non-offensive, what people call a "dumb reach" kind of fragrance IMHO. I would find it appealing on both males and females; right now I'm smelling it on my skin, and it's not overpowering but kinda blends with my own skin scent, so I bet to my nose it would smell masculine on a male and feminine on a female. It seems the general Fragrantica consensus disagrees with my assessment though... Biggest knock for me is the longevity isn't great. My summer wears of this seem to last maybe 4 to 6 hours depending on the day. It does seem to project decent early on (about the first hour to ninety minutes maybe) as I've received compliments on it. Got a large 200 ml bottle of this at Burlington for $39.99, so this qualifies as one of the biggest bang for the buck cheapies I've ever picked up, under $20 per 100 ml. Not gonna lie, if I saw this same bottle size again at the same price, I'd be sorely tempted to pick it up as a backup bottle even though it'll probably be years before I burn up the bottle I already have.

Very similar to Versace Eros and the many minty scents that followed, but projection is a bit lacking in comparison. Good notes, a bit more versatile and more mature than Eros, MUCH better than the original Le Male, but still it doesn't compete with Versace Eros or or the many other spicy-minty scents on the market, in terms of performance. It does last moderately well, just over 6 hours, but it just doesn't project like I'd like it to. One thing I will say however, is that the ambergris in this scent really stands out and it smells GREAT! I usually hate heavy ambergris as it usually makes me nauseous. The only other ambergris heavy scent I've come to enjoy is Guerlain Encens Mythique which is about $400-500 a bottle, so that's saying something. Still, I wish this performed better. Wearing Eros is much more rewarding, in comparison. I agree with the reviewer below me, the JPG scent to get is Ultra Male.

Le Male In The Navy is fresh, uplifting and cooling, built around a minty aquatic opening that feels crisp, salty and slightly sweet. To my nose, it has a fresh mojito-like character, with the mint and watery notes giving it that icy, sparkling lift, while the vanilla and ambergris soften the drydown. Performance is moderate at best. I get around four hours before it settles close to the skin, still detectable, but nowhere near as loud or intense as the newer Le Male iterations. It is an excellent choice for summer casual wear, especially daytime outings, but I would not call it a full beach fragrance. It feels cleaner, lighter and more refreshing than sensual or tropical. Worth revisiting from time to time, especially when you want something easy, cooling and nostalgic without too much weight.

As the reviewer below me has stated, all I really get out of this fragrance is mostly vanilla. The opening is minty, but that goes away within a few minutes leaving you with vanilla and maybe some aquatic notes...? That's basically it. A soft vanilla bomb with some aquatic notes lost somewhere in the sea of vanilla. Now, I actually happen to enjoy this fragrance. I've had a few compliments with this. With that being said, this is absolutely NOT a summer fragrance. I've worn this a few times in HOT summer heat and it becomes way too sweet to handle. I'd say this is more of a spring/fall fragrance. Le Male In The Navy is certainly enjoyable enough, but in my honest opinion I can't recommend you purchase a bottle of it. This is a LIKE, not a LOVE for me.

I totally did not expect that this one was going to be so different from the original Le Male, actually it could be just a new fragrance from JPG, anyway I agree it has some similarity with Eros, from Versace, first edition, I just sprayed both, side by side in different forearm, and I would say this: the Navy Le Male is easier to wear than Eros, more versatile and more summer like cologne, not as cloying as Eros can become, and it has a decent performance. I just wore it last night on an evening party indoors, and lasted a good fair amount of 4 to 5 hours before becoming a skin scent, I could say I will pick up this one more often over Eros during this summer, but I have to admit that the performance from Eros last longer but well, so far so good.

I got a great deal on this bottle and I must say that I’m pleased ($50 for a 4.2 oz from Ulta). It is rather similar to Eros with the vanilla mint combo, but perhaps not quite as projecting. In the Navy does attempt to replace those citrus apple notes in Eros with the sea notes, but I do find myself wishing there was a light citrus in this fragrance. Like some bergamot or light orange. It’s very nicely balanced, unlike the original Le Male. It has some of that sweet vanilla but it is roughly 40% as sweet, so therefore actually wearable and enjoyable. If you get a good deal on it, go for it, but I’d choose Eros over this one personally

I love the smell on this one, the salt and vanilla with a touch of ocean water is a really pleasant combo. Wish it performed a little better, it is quickly a skin scent on me and is gone entirely after 5 or 6 hours. Which is a shame because it is a great smell. Update: I started using a much heavier hand than I typically do (6-8 sprays) and the performance picked up enough to where I started using this as my go-to for work. A regular-priced bottle is a little on the overpriced side given how much I have to use to get acceptable performance, but it’s a great scent and I’d recommend it if you can find it on sale.

I was surprised to how it seemed similar @ first spray to Versace Eros, which I dislike due to it's sweet powdery scent. It was a blind buy because it was at a great discounted price so I had to pick it up. But as I was starting to feel disappointed, I noticed that in the dry down it changed & became more appealing to me, not sweet & powdery, but semi sweet, fresh, masculine & aquatic. I like it, my first Gaultier frag. Presentation is too notch. I paid $33 for 4.2 oz!!! Way better & acceptable style over Versace Eros in my opinion. Even English Laundry Oxford Blue is better than Eros IMHO!

I wanted something more sweet, opaque. This may be a trend follower with a small change to it. It's like.. that new-age aquatic, and has a sour smell to it, and some mint. It's not bad, but not what I was hoping for. Edit: August 2021 edit - I change my mind a good bit! This is pleasant stuff. I wasn't big on Invictus before also, I guess I followed a bandwagon a bit... but now I love it! And this JPG is good too! It smells similar to my Suave Professionals 2-in-1 Thick & Full shampoo/conditioner, no joke lol. Easy to wear scent, signature scent worthy, crowd pleaser.

Much improved scent over the original Le Male. The Le Male has that grime, sweat vibe lurking in the fragrance, however this is a much better scent to go with. Flankers offer differences, and this was done well. Heard it's similar to the Superman, and Popeye (I smelled one of them once), and it was in the same vein, though I didn't do a side-by-side. Nice scent, though I wouldn't buy it. It doesn't have enough of a stand-out power, and doesn't fulfill a need i.e. seasonal, occasion, etc. If you're going with a GPG, just get UltraMale.

This is a solid flanker to Le Male. Don't think this is just another Le Male in a new bottle - this is a different fragrance. It's similar to Popeye Eau Fraiche, but different, probably a bit more aquatic. I like the sweetness in this and honestly the performance is slightly above average, which is terrific for a summer fragrance. I get about 6-7 hours on this - with about 2 hours of projection. Very solid summer flanker - I wonder though, will JPG ever produce a fragrance that isn't a Le Male flanker???

Excellent addition to the Le Male line for summertime. The combo of salty mint is a great change of pace to the citrus freshies. Dry down that brings forth vanilla/ambergris to mix with sea notes is fantastic. Projection is strong for first hour before quickly working back to a personal space DNA. Longevity on me is 6/7 hours. Certainly leans masculine. Best for summer, could be worn late spring/early fall. I’m really digging the recent flankers that JPG is pushing out recently.

Is it original? No. Is it bad? Also no. This is basically just JPG's take on the ambroxan trend. The opening is salty like the sea and then you get the base that you've smelled in Sauvage, Carbon, etc. etc. etc. There's vanilla and mint in your usual Le Male DNA. And that's about it, really. If you're somehow unfamiliar with any of the compared fragrances in this comment section, this is perfectly fine. It exudes youth and playfulness, and would be great for a college student.

A light fresh uplifting fragrance. I find that In the Navy, Aviator, and On Board to all be very similar. I enjoy them all but not sure more than one is needed. In the Navy, while best during the warm months, can be worn all year, day or night. During the winter this can brighten your day and shift your mood/outlook during the cold and darker months. The original Le Male can be heavy and cloying, In the Navy is light and airy. I think this is a safe buy for most anyone.

This is a great juice. It’s a great line overall, but this to me is a sensible aquatic compared to others where the salty sea notes are overdone. For me this frag needs HOT HOT HOT weather to shine. Anything shy of a warm summer day and it’s goes to a very close skin scent within an hour. In the summer it projects well... not great, but well for 4-5 hrs which in my opinion is reasonable for the price point.

A very pleasant scent that, honestly, smells like a lot of others on the market right now. Starts with a salty (not sharp) aquatic, then dries down with a vanilla base. I didn't really notice the mint, but then again, that's a good thing, because it means this isn't an overpowering cologne. Would definitely recommend for younger men, or women looking for a good, fresh, unisex scent.
