Le Male Popeye Eau Fraiche

I never thought I'd like another Le Male again. This is either through not trying them because they are just the original formula in a new bottle. Alternatively, the whole appeal of Le Male flankers just being lost on me or even if it is the original, the new formulations are worse than what I remember from the 90's having been thoroughly put off by over use. I don't have anything against Le Male, I kinda like the smell on other people it just goes sour when it dries down on my skin. Popeye eau fraiche is somehow different? Maybe it's the ambroxan but I get an overall much more comforting and sweet smelling vanilla with a hint of tonka and some fresher notes in the opening. Popeye is now on clearance sale in the UK and I'm tempted to pick up a bottle. Update: Right I'm wearing this now and it does open with a aldehyde and aquatic vibe, crossed with classic le male and then a sweet, bubblegum/banana medicine thing...a la Ultra male. It's weird to me that a mixture of abroxan, salty aquatic, milky le male fougere and insipid sweetness actually works. The drydown is pleasant any stronger or more projecting and I think it could cross the line into cloying. The key here is balance, it's as simple as that. I stick to my initial thoughts I like it and I genuinely like Popeye as well so it's a winner.

Blind bought this and got this arrive today,my first impression would be yeap.. Bubble gummy smell with strong of mint notes on it for the 1st hour, after the that I started to pick up some clean linen laundry smell (maybe as what other mention as detergent smell😁) but at least is smell pleasant for me. You definitely smell like out from the shower will your teeth brushed and yeah.. The longevity was crazy.. Still smell strong and punching even now are almost 6pm (spray on 11am).. 1 spray on the neck is good to go.. Over spray might cause headache or nausea.. I love this overall *update - 3rd day from the delivery day.. I guess I found my signature scent of me. Spray it at 9.30 am, smell keep punching until the afternoon and slowly to tame a bit.. Was taking a break and get some fresh air from my working place about 5pm, and suddenly noticed a comforting smell just grab my attention. Was looking around where the smell came from, no one was around and found out actually the smell is came from myself..! I thought that maybe after 7 hour from the morning spray it will sit close to the skin but its not.. Just move your body a little to get a little warm up the smell just snap and revive! Just like Popeye got his spinach! Hope jpg will bring Popeye to their collection again.. Please

Greetings, I received this fragrance a few years back as a present. It was the sweetest fragrance in my collection. I do agree with most reviewers, it's a minty bubble gum citrus fragrance with some floral notes. Highly unisex in my opinion and perfect for the summer. I was looking for a replacement for it, as the price cannot be justified in my opinion. It is interesting, but not complex enough to pay a decent amount of money for. Therefore I have decided not to buy the original and look for replacement. The rabbit hole was deep and not as perfect as I imagined, however there are worthy replacements, albeit a bit more "mature" sounding. The alternatives are: Boss Unlimited (more spicy, less sugar) Lacoste white (rather mature scent, which is a more "grown up" alternative) Zara Summer Edition (a homage to Boss Unlimited) Jfenzi Desso Green (a generic clone of Boss Unlimited, with more mint and less florals and citrus) There are also some "cousins" which are Puma Jamaica, and perhaps PR Invictus, but they are not true replacements. After looking at longevity, silage and price I have decided to use Jfenzi Desso Green as a budget replacement for "minty" fragrances in my collection and I hope that some of you might find this review useful. 8/10

Original Le Male meets Ultra Male and Chanel Allure Homme Sport and guess what - the combination really rocks my world! I got so hooked up with this scent that I had to buy two bottles immediately (it's a limited edition you know). I was very skeptical to even try this, since usually the summer versions of Le Male have NOT been different enough to the original one. But this one is something else indeed! The top notes of aldehydes and neroli (possibly mint too, though my nose doesn't detect it so clearly) makes me think of the freshness of Allure Homme Sport and Nikos Sculpture, but I can also recognize the sweet tonka note immediately which makes me think of Ultra Male and also Allure Homme Sport Eau Extreme. I absolutely love the contrast of the "radiant" lighter and fresher notes and the deeper, mouthwatering sweet notes. The projection and longevity are exceptionally good on my skin and clothes. I have got plenty of inquiries what scent I'm having and also compliments when wearing this sexy beast. I think they should add this one into their permanent selection - it's my favorite version of all the Le Males!

In my opinion, the best Jean Paul Gaultier fragrance! Minty, sweet, with tonka bean?! I love it! I don't really know how Popeye was chosen as this fragrance mascot. Maybe, because this fragrance smells green and Popeye eats spinach? However, I can very much picture a handsome sailor rocking this fragrance. Popeye is a very casual, summer-time fragrance. And, women LOVE IT! Every girl that I've asked all loved it with no one ever gave this fragrance anything below an 8/10. Every time I'm hanging out with a girl and I get close to her, they compliment me. This fragrance is a womanizer gem! This fragrance does smell a lot like Chanel Allure Homme eau de Extreme. More sweeter than Allure Extreme, but very similar. However, for the price tag? Yes, please! Now, I heard that Superman smells nearly identical to Superman, but I haven't tried Superman yet. However, as of 2018, Superman is much more easier to find than Popeye. Scent: 9/10 Performance: 8/10 Sillage: 8/10 Compliments: 10/10 Price: 10/10

Somehow this fragrance gets reviewed by people who sprayed it once in the store years ago. I wonder why? :) I bought a bottle and am almost done with it. Here is my $0.02 to you. IMO, this is a summer and slightly modernized version of the original Le Male. It will smell familiar to you, if you actually own Le Male bottle as well, not just spray in the store :) A few notes are dimmed and some are amped up but over all this is a summer version of the original thing. That's it. I like the original Le Male but it could be cloying in the summer. This one does not have that, well not to the same degree (as this is not a high heat fragrance). I actually prefer this one to the original during the warm 6 months and the rest I wear Le Male simply because on a cold day this one does not perform that well. Shame it is discontinued and hard to find but grab it if you can get it for the same price as the original (don't pay crazy money for it as for that price there are better options).

I agree with the reviews by Zaca (minus the Band-aid note, i don't get that at all) and MNadz. It is a minty, sweet fragrance with a smooth Vanilla/Tonka dry down. I'm not sure i would class this fragrance as unisex although i can see why some reviewers would class it as such. My wife bought me this for an anniversary present as she knows i've been a fan of La Male since it was released in the mid 90's and she liked the freshness and sweetness of this version. I would consider this to be a summertime fragrance which has above average longevity and silage (especially for a 'Fraise' fragrance) that is a welcome change to all the 'blue' fragrances (a few of which i also love) currently on the market. In conclusion, i couldn't describe it any better than Zaca's final sentence; 'If you want the barbershop vanilla/mint accord of Le Male in summer get-up, or just a unique summer fragrance, Popeye Eau Fraiche is perfect'.

I really enjoyed this 1! I do really like it but I can’t say I’m in love. This opens up with a very airy,fresh linen type of smell with mint and tonka sweetness in the background. It’s pretty linear but once it dries down the vanilla comes to the forefront making this slightly vpcreamy but it still retains that freshness from the opening. Again very nice scent that to my nose smells like a more wearable,summery Versace Eros ! Performance is good as this lasts 4-6 hours with only average projection. However, this does leave a nice Sillage trail. Overall rating— 7 out of 10 ! I’m not a big fan of the fresh,sweet bubblegum type of scent but this isn’t too shabby. I can see this growing on me more this summer Sidenote: My favorite part of this fragrance is the drydown and also my fiancées thoughts on this was that it was ok and wouldn’t mind if I wear it but it wasn’t 1 of her favorites.

Surprisingly nice warm weather offering from JPG. Definitely get hints of original Le Male, AHS and Eros.(this could have easily been Eros Eau Fraiche IMO) Pretty straight forward and linear mint and tonka scent for the most part. However, the aldehydes and ambroxan add a nice airiness and salty depth to the composition. I get a very slight herbal vibe in the background as well. A fair amount of bubblegum sweetness in here also, which I enjoy. I did however learn the hard way the first time I did a full wearing.....to me this is NOT a summer scent. I put on 3 sprays on a sunny, mid-80's day and just about made myself sick. Hour after hour of getting bashed with a semi-heavy tonka/minty sweetness. So just like AHS, I'm going to save this gem for 75* and under days;) Longevity and projection are both slightly above average for me.

I’m not too big into the bubblegummy type scents but I do really enjoy this scent and it’s a go to for summer in my collection. This starts off with that typically sweet bubblegums type vibe but it’s different in the fact that it has aldehydes and mint to give it a very pleasant,breezy freshness ! This stays pretty linear but that bubblegummy vibe fades out and the vanilla comes in making this smoother and more balanced. In the end what this smells like to me is fresh,laundry with a nice sea breeze. Very nice scent for the summer months ! Performance on this is really solid for a freshie as it lasts 5-8 hours with good projection for an hour but has a nice scent bubble for the duration of the scent. Overall rating-7.5 out of 10 ! A go to for me in the summer but as much as I like it I can’t say it’s a favorite of mine,

This is a super simple mint fragrance with a slight sweetness of ambroxan and tonka. It's about half the strength of Versace Eros and without the spicy wood base, this is simply a vanilla base. I do think this is a barebones sweet mint juice. It's very well done and classy. It's not too loud, but does last very long as 4 inch projection skin scent. Projects nicely for about 1.5 hours and then it gets a bit tight to your skin. I love this stuff personally, it's not too much like Ultra Male, it's only slightly sweeter than the original Le Male, and it's not very bubble gummy like others have mentioned. It's a very pleasant and inoffensive scent. Some might feel it's a bit bland, and I get that, but sometimes a soft sweet mint is really quite nice. 8/10

Bought this Fragrance when it was first released i have been wearing it on and off for a year and what i can say is if you have been a fan of the original Le Male and not all the bullshit flankers this one definitely stands out. My girlfriend specifically requests that i wear this every time we go out on hot days here in Los Angeles. I do own two backup bottle of Popeye but the superman version smells exactly the same. Get it before the third version gets released summer 2018 which i would guess will not have the exact scent of either or. Scent:8/10 longevity: 8/10 Sillage:7.5/10 Compliment Factor: 9/10

I still have my bottle from 2016. When I first smelled this it reminded me of a fragrance for kids because it smells like a lighter version of Le male with more mint and more of a baby powder smell. But I love it, you will definetly get compliments and get noticed. Women love this! If you think Le male is too strong then get this. It smells exactly like Le male just more light and more fresh. I wear it all year round and it cuts through the winter like nothing, lasts about 5 hours for projection, then after that it turns into a skin scent.

This fragrance I recently bought on the basis that it makes me smile and lifts my mood ..it goes really well with summer and warm evenings..bubblegum..creamy spearmint and a aquatic twist ..doesn't project like a beast but projects enough and moderate longivity ..it's a very playful take on le male that is obviously going to please young lady's, the lady's in the store were going wild over this. It's one of those fragrances that you should wear in a good mood but a little mischievous. Perfect for a date

This is what LE MALE should smell like While the original made me sick, this one is enchanting It's all about mint and vanilla, but in a milder and more balanced way Aldehydes play an important role and make the link between those two contrasting ingredients. In practical terms the scent is cosy and tender. Somehow fresh and sweet at the same time. Fits both summer and winter and is very versatile. Sillage and longevity are far more than acceptable Gaultier got the job well done here

I have very fond memories of this one, because of the fact that my late grandmother loved it so much on me. I've had it for a good seven years, I'd say, but I feel like it's losing it's power. The scent is still great, but I feel like the projection has gotten so minimal. Maybe it's just because my nose changed and I gravitate much more towards heavier and deeper scents now. It will forever have a special place in my heart, but I can't say it's one of my "favorites" anymore.

I know, I know. This is a mans cologne, the packaging and name makes that quite clear. But I absolutely love this sent (on me) and it smells like a perfect gender neutral scent in my opinion. I mostly pickup the aldehydes, vanilla & mint. However I find the sage, not the clary sage that is quite weak, but sage note to be quit predominate. The tonka, amber and sandalwood are soft but present in the dry down. Perfect for a casual, hot, Summer day.

I just bought this couple of hours ago and I have to say that I like this version even better than the original, which is one of the best fragrances on the market. This is much more airy and more fresh. I haven't smelled Fleur Du Male or the gazzillion summer flankers of Le Male, so I can't make a comparsion to them but this is very much what I thought and hoped for the Le Male summer version to smell. 10/10

I found a bottle on Century 21 Department Stores online site. Took like three weeks to get here but is def a legit bottle for around 65 dollars shipped. I didn't even know they had department stores but its legit. As far as the fragrance goes, I def am picking up an Invictus Aqua vibe but with a slight different kind of sweetness to it. Looking forward to wearing it this summer.
