Jean Paul Gaultier MaDame Thank God that there are people in this world who have such a vision and zest for life that simply knowing them changes you forever. They are rebels for whom the rules do not apply. They do, say, be, wear, and create whatever they want and you just need to keep up, keep an open mind, and stay out of their way. These are people who are born knowing that life is simply too short to take yourself so seriously, so you might as well have fun with it. My great-grandmother was one of those people. She STARTED smoking at age 85 because she’d always wanted to try it. She said that at her age she could do whatever she wanted. We didn’t stop her. At age 91, she assembled her great-grandchildren in the living room and asked us to teach her how to pop-lock because all the kids were doing it and she wanted to learn. We taught her. She was ageless and knew how to have fun. I’m quite sure if she were still alive, I’d be hooking up her iPad to her XBox so she could share her selfies with her Facebook friends around the world. Gaultier is the same way. He has fun with life, yet he honors and appreciates the beauty in all things. His designs are fresh, fun, edgy, creative and beautiful. They poke fun at ideas of conventional beauty while at the same time honoring it. They exaggerate, manipulate, and then break the stereotypes. Think of the bullet bras, dresses made from grass, and skirts for men. This perfume is the perfect example of what Gaultier did to transform conventional ideas in perfumery too. It’s a floral with a sense of humor, exactly as the pink neon torsoed bottle indicates. It has scents that seem familiar AND unconventional at the same time. Of course I know what rose and grenadine smell like, yet I’ve never smelled them like this before, and it has expanded my ideas of what beautiful really is in a fragrance like no other fragrance in my collection has. This is the fragrance to wear when you live a life without limits, when YOU are the life of the party, the one for whom the rules do not apply. The world needs more people and certainly more fragrances like this! Thank you, Gaultier.

EDT review - I slept on this for awhile due to the reviews, which made it sound like a very off-putting frag, but I really like it! Usually I hate anything synthetic and plasticky, "new car smell" has made me extremely nauseous ever since I was a child. I dislike rubber, plastic, pool toy smells, etc. I assumed this would be too headache-inducing. But I must say, I'm really not getting anything synthetic or plastic here at all... I forgot the notes prior to sampling my new bottle and only looked them up after 20 min, and got everything I smelled almost exactly right. I basically read this scent as an orange-dominant with red fruit scent with just enough musk and light woods to keep it out of pure "gourmand" territory. The orange top notes smell like kool-aid, tang, sunny delight, orange jello powder, or one of those processed orange drink flavors. Mix that in a glass of soda water with a splash of grenadine, then a little light fresh woodsy musk, and thats it! It almost has D&G Light Blue vibes but *way* better IMO. The orange note reminds me of the Classique Essence or Intense flankers - I forgot which, maybe both? But the fun grenadine and musk instead of powder makes this scent last longer and perform better on my skin than those flankers did. It definitely is more of a youthful fragrance and does remind me of y2k era teens and 20 somethings -- tube tops, butterfly clips, platform boots, body glitter. It isn't so youthful, though, that it can't be worn by more mature women. The light fruity freshness almost gives solar vibes and this seems like it would be a fun summer scent. This is not a rich syrupy sticky sweet scent, it's very light and more funky and playful than edible or seductive. Yet another case where I'd written off a scent due to bad reviews here and instantly loved it once I finally sampled it!

I've been wearing this perfume for so many years by now, but I've never written a review because I didn't know where to begin. I'm about to finish the fourth bottle, so it's high time I wrote something about it. I think that Ma Dame is one of the few perfumes that suits me divinely, just as a tailored dress would do. On my skin it creates a perfect blend, it evolves into a sensual, sassy and soothing scent. I see that many people complain about its being (too) synthetic but for me it's sharply irresistible and unique. At the beginning it's like a slap in your face, if you wanna say so, but when it dries down it actually calms down. The woodsy notes as well as the musk emerge and mix with rose and grenadine. There's a lot of rose indeed, and the cedar is prominent too. It's impossible not to think about the commercial starring Agyness Deyn and the 00s indie-rock vibes coming from the entire product. Ma Dame is definitely an iconic fragrance, lifestyle in a bottle. Outrageous, brash and darn sexy. Contradictory as our age, maybe, and absolutely modern. A modern classic/classique - the bottle encapsulates the concept, doesn't it? It's a statement fragrance with great lasting power and good projection. Daring but not old, heavy and outdated. I will never get tired of it, I love it...and men tend to love it too.

I had this and I absolutely loved it! I don't think it is available anymore? Atleast, I haven't seen it recently. It's fresh, lively, but also bursting with some sort of juiciness. If I ever see it again, I will buy it again. The dry down is lovely. It's a scent that you can wear during the day, and depending on the occasion, you could most likely get away with wearing it at night. Edit: I finally found this when I happened to run into a cosmetic store to quickly pick up a couple of things and lo and behold, there was my beloved Ma Dame! And it was not nearly as much as I had paid for it originally when I first had it. I bought it and the second I got back into my car I tore into it hoping that this was not some cruel joke and that it would hopefully smell just as I remembered...it did. It's a happy fragrance. Bright, but mature. Zesty and alive! Very feminine. Like grapefruit, but with almost a licorqice scent..maybe more on the fresh side of fennel. I don't think just anyone could wear this. It's intense. It's a burst to the senses. I went back and purchased a second bottle.

it’s been my signature fragrance for 8 years, and I couldn’t find any alternatives since JPG house has stopped its production, I tried the new fragrances from the same house but they were super sugary for me, which makes them unpractical for being signature fragrance that suits all occasions, whereas MaDam JPG is less sugary , super powdery , fresh and orangy. it unbelievably blends with my skin scent and has an amazing sillage, which makes people frequently ask me about my scent and give lots of compliments, it opens its notes differently depending on the weather and day time without causing any confusion or embarrassing, the way it expresses itself suites my personality a lot , fresh powdery and friendly feminine. I’m testing now Narciso-rodriguez Poudrée, in order to find a new signature fragrance even though it’s different in notes from Ma Dam JPG. My aim is to find long lasting fresh powdery effect , with citrusy opening , if anybody managed to find the MaDam JPG alternative,I’de be thankful for sharing .
