Arome Arthes Secret

Lately, I've been quite obsessed with violet scents. I am using this Arome Secret as a bedtime scent because it's so comforting, soothing and dreamy. I use it also to spray my silk pillowcase and bed linen. My bed smells like powdery violets/baby bath scent goodness :). The first bottle I blind bought it @notino, very cheap. Last month I bought 2 more 100ml bottles, only for 18,90 € each on eBay ( Bulgarian seller ), so at this price, I really don't mind over spraying it! It's a very soft scent, very close to the skin with no sillage but I just LOVE IT and it works wonders for me because I sleep like an angel!

This is all about the violet with maybe a hint of vanilla and a little musk. Very pretty. A deeper violet rather than being crisp and bright.

Very light, fresh, powdery, feminine fragrance, sillage is close to the skin, poor/moderate longevity. The predominant note is violet - it's a very "natural" smelling one, though and doesn't set my teeth on edge. I don't get a "Parma Violets" taste (for anyone not of a certain age and in the UK, these are horrible old-fashioned chalky violet flavoured sweets which were widely available when I was growing up in the 1960s/1970s). I don't pick up on the green notes or musk at all and - in all honesty - this is pretty much a soliflore to my nose. Having said that, it does smell fresh, which could be coming from the green notes. It's a cold and crisp January day and I think this is best suited to warm spring and mild summer days and will re-test then. Ultimately though, this really isn't my sort of scent - it's too polite and refined for my taste and my skin just sucks it up like a sponge (which is why I favour bold orientals).

Arome Secret is mainly sweet heliotrope & slightly earthy iris. I find it has a creamy candy feel, but on my skin it is not particularly strong or cloying. There is a slightly waxy greenness. Powdery, sweet, a bit heady. Arome Secret is very feminine. Best for spring evenings, or mild summer days.

Two Words: Cough Syrup! I wanted to buy Arome Arthes Seduction, but I ended up selecting this by mistake :P First spritz, it came out loudly as cough syrup: alcohol mixed with some medicinal cherry. It reminds me of my childhood years when I suffered from Strep throat EVERY summer! I waited for the scent to develop, but sadly, it remained cough syrup for a long time and then died out. Not for me!

This Jeanne Arthes Secret is SUPER LOUD CANDY SWEET at first spray. Smells similar to those French purple dusty violet candy pastilles that used to come in a tin. Yes, tons of alcohol at first spray, then loud sugary purple candy sweetness that doesn't change. Not grape flavor, just purple candy syrup. Woody ? NO Green? NO Musky? NO Powdery ? NO I love sweet, but this is just too much for me. As it is, for me this is a Scrubber. HOWEVER, since it's too candy sweet, I mix other scents with it and it's nice. For example, Coty's Raw Vanilla works if sprayed first, with Arthes Secret over it. Cedar in the Raw Vanilla cuts down the overly sweet candy effect, making it wearable. Other Coty and Dana Vanilla scents work well, too, when mixed with Arthes Secret, to soften, tone down the candy sweetness, while letting the original violet scent shine through. Not a bad fragrance for the price. Suprisingly, it lasts about 8 hours on skin, and lasts in hair and on clothing until you wash it out. A small amount goes a long long way with this fragrance.

This is the scent of the virginal and the matronly. Arome Anthes Secret is likely going for the image of the scented love letters of Napoleon and Josephine (violet was his favorite scent) but it ends up with something that is cloying and booming with violets, and be best described as "soapy". (A friend actually compared it to Tide Detergent.) To its credit, it has a lot of staying power. This is definitely not a scent to wear in business settings or even in places where you will be in close contact with people. This is more of a fragrance to wear to outdoor events in the summer. It can be stifling... so an extremely light application is needed.
