Guipure & Silk

I'm just totally in love with this. For me personally its not really a gourmand smell. Guipure & Silk is a bittersweet, kinda medicinal, bit synthetic and a definitely more poisonous scent than HP itself (at least the newer formulations). Its deep and immersive, you have to try it a couple of times to describe it accurately. Baby powder, sunescreen, almonds, amaretto, heliotrope, betadine, and liquid peroxyde comes to mind. Kinda caustic if oversprayed, it has an ability to irritate your throat and nose. The drydown is more powdery and medicinal. Overall a weird, warm night time fragrance, and even tho its cosy, its also a bit arrogant and distant - my type of perfume.

I am in love with it and enjoy it when it is cold out and I want to feel cozy and sexy or basically any time I want to go out at night and feel that vibe. I cannot pick on the notes entirely but this is sweet and delicate but also potent as the time goes by. It has the vibe of Hypnotic Poison which is great because I do not feel the need to get that anymore. If you want an all around perfume close to HP yes get this. Grab the full bottle because you won't be sorry. I want a backup bottle because mine is half full. This is a gourmand lover's treasure. It makes me think of honey, vanilla, and interesting spices all blended together. Love it.

This smells absolutely identical to HP. I’m quite surprised, and impressed. Of course HP lasts quite a few hours longer, but the fragrances themselves are barely different. The projection of the perfume is relatively weak. I find it’s more of a skin scent- but on occasion, It’ll reach someone from arms length. Longevity is about 3-4 hours which is mildly depressing, but nothing complaint worthy for the price tag. Safe blind buy for an excellent HP dupe. You don’t need both; unless you want to layer them to create a stronger scent.

I went to the store just to spray this cause they said its a dupe for HP. I was so impressed by this cheapy. I feel its softer on the nose than HP. I was wearing HP once and people said it smelled like insence. ;-( So I think I will give this one a go for sure. Also.... I absolute love the fact that it smells vintage without the harsh vintage smells.

Im really pleased that i decided to try this ott looking perfume. I could never afford hypnotic poison so this will have to do. It really does smell divine. I cant stop sniffing my wrist. Lol. The coconut, vanilla and almonds are a combo made in heaven. The sillage is moderate and the longevity about 6 hours.

Hypnotic Poison on steroids. I absolutely love it. It's everything I wish HP was. I purchased this for £7 which is an absolute sin for such a gothic masterpiece. If you like cherries & almonds get this. Performs so much better than Hypnotic Poison. It's a yes from me!

Do you like Hypnotic Poison on others/paper, but it clashes with your chemistry? Try this one! I mean, HP was horrible on my skin, and this has a similar vibe and smells like heaven on me. Same happened to a friend.

Love It. This is the best Dior hypnotic Poison dupe in my opinion, and it has an incredible price point. On me it lasts long and protects well.

I quite like this one: delicious almond-coconut-vanilla combo. Guipure&Silk is definitely a gourmand, sweet scent for wintry weather. It does remind me of Hypnotic Poison very much. I haven’t tested them on paper or compared wrist-to-wrist, but both wear very similarly on me. In fact, I bought Guipure&Silk first. When I first tried it, I was disappointed. It felt overly sweet and kind of cheap, and even reminiscent of that yellow vanilla-flavored “little tree” car freshener. Yet after several times, it became less flat and more complex. Either I grew to like it or some alchemy happened within the bottle over time – as it always seems to happen with Jeanne Arthes perfumes I own. Then I bought Hypnotic Poison (Eau de Toilette) and it felt very familiar, to my surprise. Of course, HP being more classy, with more development, a bit more powdery and dry, but still very-very similar. If you like one you will probably like the other too. I’d say Guipure&Silk is a great cheapie replacement for Hypnotic Poison Eau de Toilette (never smelled HP Eau de Parfum, so can’t speak of this one – heard they are different enough). Of course, these things come with an asterisk – our noses are all unique and individual perception might differ drastically, but you might want to give it a try. Also, if you tried G&S and it felt wrong or cheap, don't be too quick to give it away. It might improve after some time sitting at the back of your closet.

To label Guipure & Silk as budget-Hypnotic-Poison is a little cruel.....but one sniff & you will be making comparisons, too. I received this as a swap with the lovely nanano & I am thoroghly enjoying its creamy, nutty fluffiness & floral twists. Yes, HP is there....but G&S is not so in-your-face & a little more gentle. This also means it lacks the development, strength, sillage & lasting power of the Dior but on clothes its delicate perfume lingers. So, to those who call G&S HP's ugly sister take a look at the packaging....pretty, in a kitsch way....then try it without trying to find the HP. You will probably find the dense, sweet almond fog is a little less invasive....this gives the florals a little more space to breathe. Eau de Hypnotic Poison, or HPlight might be more appropriate. In any case, if you like HP & are on a budget you will probably enjoy this little frag. I do. Another "nice" scent.

After reading reviews, that this is very close to Hypnotic Poison, I just had to order a bottle on Amazon. Since I fell in love with Hypnotic Poison after using a decant of the edp Hypnotic version I was on the verge of buying the original, but I will wait. So, is this close to the original? My answer is YES, it is a 95% resemblence to the "real deal" and that is very close. The sillage is just like the original, close to the body and I would even like to say it has an tactile feel to it. It is a fragrance that becomes part of you - like if it is your own personal body scent - and that is what got me loving HP in the first place and even this dupe. Gps has a tiny bit more sweetness to it, than HP and the beautiful licorice is the note that shines the most. Absolutely a bargain and a great dupe for Diors HP.

On me this is straight Hypnotic Poison with less sickly vanilla and less potent almond personally I find it alot more wearable as Hypnotic Poison can become overwhelmingly cloying and sweet and at times becomes nauseating almond marzipan on me - I find this a bit more smokey and alot more wearable. I do get a rootbeer/sarsparilla float with vanilla icecream type note which is delicious and some incense, luckily I don't get the bandaid or mushroom notes described below. If you have always wanted to wear HP but find it sickening on yourself Give this a whirl it's a great perfume and is uber cheap I picked this up for the equivellent of $10 US for the 100ml. The bottle is cute in a gothicy way and doesn't look overly cheap in my opinion either.

I bought this at the beginning of my very new fragrance journey ( I'm Autistic & it's my latest hyper fixation!) I just liked the bottle the price & that the list of notes sounded nice! I've learnt that I like Beast fragrances, and this was far too soft for me. What I've realised is it's fabulous to layer with! It's a great topper upper of base notes of other fragrances aren't strong. It's like a warm & fuzzy comforting fragrance, easy on the nose. I've got an Arabian French Coffee perfume oil on with it & a vanilla & cappuccino body spray & I could eat myself! It's such a gorgeous combination to wear to bed! Try it - play round with it. I'll definately buy it again despite it's 'softness'

An impulsive blind buy, but definitely a good one! A borderline gourmand scent as I mostly smell vanilla and almonds with hints of coconut and a smidge of licorice. Maybe some cloves. Something floral too, but it's not the first thing that comes to mind. The smell instantly reminds me of autumn afternoons, going home from school and drinking hot cocoa as soon as you walk in (it doesn't smell like cocoa, it just has that comforting, warm scent). It also surprisingly reminds me of Organza (probably because it's very sweet). It's like Organza's little sister - doesn't have as much of a big presence. Overall I really like it! P.S. The bottle is gorgeous too!

This is great. I love darker perfumes, and to me this is a sweet, very kind, beginner dark perfume. It's a spicy vanilla, and i can't believe cinnamon isn't one of the notes. To me this smells like sitting by a bonfire enjoying chai a snowy night. It smells warm. When it comes to budget perfumes, this is one of the best to me. I've had it for years and it made me start looking for all the guipures (i have 4/7). This is probably the easiest one to find and so far my favorite. If you're intrigued by the notes (+ cinnamon), i definitely recommend it. It's so cheap and worth it for sure.

Just like Hypnotic Poison, same ! no more no less ... i see despite MANY people voted "yes" on "makes me think of Hynotic Poison" they strangely all have been deleted , maybe some snob don't like that some "supermarket scent" can be compared to their beloved "insert expensive perfume name" :-P Nethertheless , wether you like it or not , yes they're the same , please refer to my HP review to know what i think of this Guipure & Silk ... ;-)

So cool! Very tasty and tender scent! Sweet, oriental, expensive. It projects amazingly on the skin. Longevity and sillage is good enough, I can smell the fragrance all day long on my clothes. This bottle is gorgeous, it reminds me of something medieval. The fragrance and the bottle definitely have a character! I'm pleased with this purchase. It's very worthy frangrance, and the price is ridiculous for such a masterpiece!

I bought this one for my grandma. Extremely cheat and beautiful packaging. Tried on myself as well and liked it so much maybe I will use it more too. At first it sounds like something an older person would wear and after about 10 minutes, sweet almond and heliotrope smell comes front. I can not smell any vanilla in it. Smells very vintage and gothic. Absolutely amazing. Long lasting as well.

This is so lovely. I never tried Hypnotic Poison, so I can't compare. But this does remind me vaguely of the sweet smell of woodruff, has a smooth, round, sweet smell that is quite nice. (Actually this is the only Jeanne Arthes frag I ever liked). Will I keep it in my collection? Yes, but I will never go and hunt down another bottle once it's gone.

I love this scent! We have this in Japan for about ¥800~¥900 Yen, witch is about $9~$10 US dollars. Dirt cheap!! Its an powdery vanilla scent. I agree with GrayMagick, its a bit arrogant and I didnt like it at first but i love it now. Japan is an humid country so its kinda risky to use this perfume but idc! (i only do 1~2 sprays tho)

Да, он сладкий, сначала напоминает ванильный белый зефир. Не пастилу сахарную, а именно нежный зефир. Если очень близко воткнуться носом в место нанесения, ощущается специя, но не знаю какая именно. Ее часто слышно в мужских парфюмах. Сейчас дико жарко. Возможно на холоде он не будет звучать по-мужски.

Just did a blind buy. Somehow I see myself drinking rootbeer just like one of you mentioned it before. It smells weird at first, but then I can smell the sweet vanilla and coconut which I really love.

This is a nice fragrance that to me smells almost exactly like Hypnotic Poison. I don't know if it has been discontinued, but it is hard to find. I wear it occasionally and enjoy it.

If you are looking for HP dupe this is not your fragrance. But it does smell nice- sweet and mild. For the price of 6€ is more than ok

Smells delicious but after a couple of hours it’s was gone. Maybe it performs better in the summer? Either way still smells great

First five minutes made me feel like I am being squeezed by an old aunt at a family function - full of ammoniac odour. With time the aunt releases her clamp and gives some space for the licorice and angelica until she leaves the room at which point this perfume becomes somehow bearable. Then it is all about jasmine and vanilla, but the aunts smell is still hanging in the distance. Afterwards it becomes mossy and musky (and finally somehow gourmand) aaand it's suddenly a skin scent. On my wrist this sequence lasts around 15-20 minutes. I was so excited for the almond in this, but I guess I need to keep looking somewhere else. Thank God I spent less than 5 Euros for it. It is a completely different perfume to HP lol...

Trying this scent was a whole damn rollercoaster...at first spray it smelled awfully like rotten fruits that are getting ready to be made into alcoholic drinks. That scent went away in about 2-3 minutes and then I’ve finally received the awaited Hypnotic Poison scent. Side to side you could definitely tell the difference and if you really do like HP, you’ll know which is which for sure. For the price however...you get to smell heavenly on a budget. The longevity and silage is really bad on my skin though...it’s really close to skin even right after spraying it. Edit: the longevity is just terrible. Can’t smell anything after 2 minutes

Sadly not as sweet and not as hypnotic or captivating as Hypnotic Poison. Very powdery. It smells like soft baby powder and I have to put my nose close to my arm to even detect it. A couple of years ago I used to wear Hypnotic Poison frequently. Reading about Guipure & Silk and all the comparisons I decided to add it to my collection just for fun. While it does remind me of Hypnotic it’s nowhere near a dupe. Yes, Hypnotic Poison is very sweet and can get a bit cloying and heavy sometimes, but that is what I like about it. It’s poison! 😅 This is not.

I got it on sale and it definitely is a steal for the price. Not my exact favorite or my type, but I can appreciate it. I find it very 90s, I feel like a lot of people smelled like this back then. It's a softly spicy lotion scent, powdery with a hint of intrigue.

It's okay. Nice, tame, sweet scent with some spice, more reserved compared to HP. Longevity is quite weak, even if oversprayed. My biggest problem with it was that it stained my clothes - fortunately not permanently.

an ideal gift for older relatives! seriously, it reminds me of my grandma's make-up shelf. the longevity is honestly insane (in a positive way) for something so cheap.

Reading so many positive reviews here I have bougt a bottle of it for myself blindly. And sadly I can't love it. I really like my perfumes strong, oriental bold, loud, sreaming, cute, mute, boring, linear, modern, old fashioned, mono, cacophoneaus (pretty much anything that my nose perceives as pleasant (I really like most perfume and I'm not picky much) But this one numbs my nose and on my skin it develops a weird note of dried mushrooms. So I'm now stuck with 100ml bottle and I could happily get rid of it, too bad none of my friends want it.

I am trying this in spring, and it is horrible. There’s some weird medicinal note that smells like cream for burns and in the worse way possible. It’s not sweet, not vanilla, not almond or even powdery, just that weird smell which I can only assume is artifical black licorice but this is literally horrible. I will try it back out in the winter but for now I’m putting it away.

I truly wanted to like this due to the many comparisons to Hypnotic Poison, which is slowly growing on me. Alas, something in this blend turns it from Guipure & Silk to Band-Aids and Ace Bandages on my skin, and remains so from first spray throughout dry down. I'm blaming a cheap vanilla/coconut accord for that.

Blind bought it due to the comparison to HP amped my expectations. What a fail! I had to wash it off as it smells so bad my nostrils hurt. Instant nausea. It was really cheap, yes, but it smells worse than public bathroom toilet freshener. I can't even pass it to anyone because I cannot imagine anyone liking this. Straight to the garbage bin :(((

This gave me a migraine and it was imposible to wash off. Too good longivity. Powdery and sweet in a synthetic way. I sold it after a few weeks with repeated headaches.

I had this shipped to me in California all the way from France and still paid far less than I would have paid for a new bottle of HP. This is basically so close to HP that it might as well be the same perfume. The difference is near negligible. I have a bottle of HP from 1999. Giupure is slightly “higher pitched” ... a tiny bit more floral. Also, a slight hint of smokiness. Smelling side by side you can detect the differences, for sure. I understand why a person would prefer one over the other, but I wouldn’t say one is lower quality than the other. I am extremely pleased. In fact, I wouldn’t say I like one better than they other. I am happy that I now have two slightly different “hues” of the HP scent. When I put my wrists together and smell both on my skin together, as one, the effect is divine and creates an overall stronger scent. Also, though I was not overjoyed by the looks of the bottle in the pictures I saw, in person it’s actually quite stunning. Totally scored on this one. Very happy. My fall/winter perfume collection is now complete for the next two years if not much longer. I use only one spray of my vintage HP (to stretch it out) and then supplement with this one with abandon... and it’s fantastic. Others have mentioned longevity issues, but one thing I’ve learned in the many years as a member of this site is that I can’t trust anyone else to tell me if a perfume is long lasting or not ...with much accuracy. For whatever reason, this perception is extremely subjective more than any other facet of perfume wearing/reporting. I have a lot of issues and complaints in general about what I see as poor longevity in most perfumes. Hypnotic Poison (yes, even the vintage) always seemed to be short lasting and poor sillage to me. Guipure is about the same. In fact, possibly it lasts longer! I sprayed it on me one hour ago and I am still smelling it distinctly and rather strongly now with my wrists down by my sides. No joke. The longer I own this one the more impressed I am with it, truly.

Coming back a year (or two??) later to say, this lasts longer than my vintage HP. You may have a hard time believing it, but it’s true. I just did an overnight test. I put HP on one wrist and Guipure on the other and went to sleep. This morning Guipure is still strongly radiating but I can’t smell HP at all anymore. I suspected this to be true many times, actually. Because I’ve worn both many times but I usually layer them, so it was hard to tell. Doing this test has sealed the deal for me in terms of which I will be buying a back up of. Now, I have to say, though the two perfumes are close in terms of resemblance, they are certainly different. In many ways I prefer HP. It’s richer and darker/deeper, slightly baritone. Guipure is an octave higher, if you will. It’s more baby powderish, however many who know HP would smell this on you and likely believe it is HP. They are very close. It’s close enough, for me. And because Guipure lasts so much longer, and is cheaper, I won’t be buying HP again. Only Guipure I get compliments every time I wear this, btw. It really does also seem to project better than my vintage EDP.

This is a review to the flanker Guipure & SHEER Silk, whose entry isn't yet listed on fragrantica. Unfortunately, many online stores have mixed up the notes with Sheer Silk and the original Guipure & Silk, the dupe of Hypnotic Poison. This flanker, instead, shares many notes with YSL's Libre Intense, suggesting it might be a dupe. I bought Sheer Silk for that reason, although I haven't smelled the original Libre Intense. I know Libre and I like it, but I don't love it, and most people around me seem to not like it, which is not a huge motivator to wear it, I must say... The notes for Guipure & Sheer Silk are: Top: Blackcurrant, Mandarin, Bergamot | Middle: Jasmin, Lavender, Orange Blossom | Base: Musk, Vetiver, Tonka Bean. Now, onto the scent. To me, it opens up with a very strong, fresh, zesty celery smell. I'm not sure which notes are contributing to this, but I don't think I've ever smelled this in a perfume before. This lingers and prevents me from appreciating the middle notes properly. Vetiver and Lavender easily make this unisex. I guess, if you love celery, this might be worth it for 7 euros...

This is a sweet and delicious fragrance which is a more affordable Dior's Hypnotic Poison. I don't care for Hypnotic Poison but I'm familiar with how it smells and this is almost a dupe except it's got more going on in it than even HP. I love the bottle. I leave it on my boudoir dresser table. It looks seductive and has a 1950's boudoir vibe. At the first spritz I smell a coconut and vanilla combination. It's so good. Then I get some mimosa and orange blossom and frangipani which smells very tropical. The floral notes are each detectable: heliotrope, jasmine, Bulgarian Rose. The flowers are not heavy just dreamy and soft. Toward the last stage of the fragrance I get delicious licorice a hint of warm musk and more vanilla. The vanilla is the strongest accord here. This is really good for an affordable price. I have invested on the Jeanne Arthes fragrance line and it was worth it. This is a really good perfume.

I have been searching for this for years... finally bought a $20-ish ebay listing from Japan, and the sale/purchase went flawlessly. Safe travels from Japan to the US, in a timely fashion and no leaking/breaking. This is an exact dupe for the recent reformulation of HP. The same watered down/light smell. I have an original bottle of HP- and nothing comes close to that original smell. A better, sweeter, stronger HP "dupe" is Forbidden by Police. Not so much a dupe as a simplified almond sugar cookie. :) Both the current HP and G&S have disappointing sillage/potency/longevity for me. Worn proper on body/skin/clothing, this is indistinguishable from the current HP. G&S didn't last on a tissue test, but seemed better on skin? Rare for me!! But still-- not very potent at all. But hey-- HP is the same. I highly rec that Japanese seller and will prob buy a back up for myself. Haha.

My bottles smell partly of Hypnotic Poison, partly of a well-known musky powder scent. Like in a color changing lamp something different comes up all the time; sometimes the powder to HP ratio is 3:1, then 1:1, then 4:1 close up, but the sillage is mostly powder either way. It is like 2 scents in one bottle - you know both, you only wanted one.. Less sweetness, more dry, woody powder and musk. GS is reserved where HP is more personal. It might have been a pleasant flanker, had the added note been less generic. Still it does work as a perfume, has a lot of variety and development. Yet it's a terrible dupe if you're looking for one. If the smell varies so much depending on production date, or whatever the variable may be, I'd absolutely not recommend buying. Unless you like surprises and the idea of a - potentially - dryer, less sweet, clean HP.

When the case is Hypnotic Poison dupes, beware. Most -if not all of them- smell terribly artificial/chemical to the degree of making one feel ill. They last for ages, stick on your skin and stick on the air to cling for minutes. They are heavy and cloying; and I believe a weapon against humanity in the wrong hands as it's the case for %90 of the time. Now Guipure Silk is not nasty. To the contrary, it is the BEST Hypnotic Poison dupe. So much so that we can say it's more wearable than the original depending on your motive. It's very powdery, like baby powder and it smells soft and clean. I can say that's a baby Hypnotic Poison and it will neither offend anyone like the other dupes nor will it take the stage show like its original big sister. Longevity is good and sillage is rather moderate. Definitely recommended!

I had more than half a bottle of this but when I realized that the shop near me which was the only one that had this, wouldn't carry it anymore, I quickly got another bottle. So I'm set for a good while, thankfully. I guess it is sort of a budget Hypnotic Poison, except I enjoy this even more. The scent is beautiful, just the right amount of sweet and it's so long lasting. The sort of gothic looking packaging was what attracted me first and it was love from the first sniff. :) It smells great on me, I enjoy it so much and it's one of the favorites in my collection. Guys also love it. I mean, I literally had one sniffing me like a puppy the second time we saw each other and he was like IT'S THAT SCENT AGAIN :D
