Les Lions D'Arthes 2001

I'm not used to smelling this flower so strongly, but it smells like dandelions to me! With spices and other flowers for decoration, over a nice base. I'm very pleased with this unique, well-composed fragrance.

This is a lovely vanilla-incense fragrance leaning floral but still very cozy. I expected to see a tolu-balsam/sweet amber ish note, but maybe the sandalwood, cedar and musk are lending that sense. The orange-jasmine combo, with rose and ylang, make me think of orange blossoms in a vibrant orchard/garden. The notes look spring-like, but this is a warm, cozy, scent - like sweaters and fireplaces and candles. I could see it working in cool spring weather too - in some ways it is like Burberry London, but there’s a rainy day/coolness to that whereas Les Lion is warmer: if Burberry London is a raincoat in cool weather, Les Lion is a cashmere sweater on a chilly day. I think it might be too heavy for warm weather, the projection is pretty solid and could get heady in the heat but was not overly loud in fall weather in an office environment - I think people around me could smell it, but not aggressively. I also get really great longevity from this, over 8 hours (all work day).

After reading the newer review about Les Lions D'Arthes I found a brand new bottle on ebay and what the heck- I bought it. It sounded very interesting. Especially the description that it's a Missoni/Tom Ford Black Orchid type fragrance. It is a very interesting one...comes on at first like it's not sure what it is. Very strong chocolate orange. After a while, it dries down to a more subdued, yet still citrusy-chocolate fragrance, floral, cedar. Nice for a cold winter day! The bottle makes it look like a summertime scent but this is one I will be sampling all winter up here. I sprayed it on myself at around 2 pm and now it is almost 11 and it's faint but you can still smell it. Nice!

This is beautiful. It's a well composed and well behaved fruity floral woodsy scent. I love the peach scent that comes out of this bottle. I don't know why I smell so much peach maybe because it's listed twice. Unfortunately it's a synthetic peach that doesn't smell as good as other recreation of peach scents. The black currant is really much better and detectable as well. Lots of citrus. The fruits disappear and the rose and jasmine combination along with ylang-ylang begin their dance. The dry down is woodsy with sandalwood and cedar, it has aromatic patchouli and sweet vanilla. This is an elaborate perfume really strong and long lasting. Perfect for spring summer fall and to wear all day. One spritz maybe two but I wouldn't spray with abandon. Beautiful. The bottle looks great as most Arthes bottles do.

I think the reviewers comparing this to TF's Black Orchid & Missoni & mentioning chocolate & orange notes must be referring to the men's version of LLd'A. I have the women's version & there is definitely no chocolate nor Black Orchid or Missoni resemblance. It reminds me of Donna Karan's Gold with its' strong tagetes/marigold note after the initial blast of of the citruses, then there's a strong clove/carnation note which disappears after an hour & all you're left with is a powdery orris blandness. I think people who like the citrus & iris/orris notes of Prada's Infusion D' Iris might like this if a little bitter green tagetes/marigold note doesn't put them off. Not sure what any of this has to do with lions or the d'Afrique decor on the box though.
