Sexy Coconut

This was my first fragrance. Till this day, I can’t find any other fragrances that perfectly copy the “coconut-y suntan lotion” besides this one. I’ve been trying out several different fragrances from affordable ones to expensive ones, but haven’t found any of which genuinely carry the scent of suntan lotions. Fragrances with coconut notes usually have a little bit too much of flower or fruity scents. This one has a sweet coconut scent like coconut cookies at first, and gradually shifts to a san tan lotion smell. It’s almost like double-duty since I love both of the scents. Highly recommended if you have the same preference. Well, this one really is a cheap fragrance. The package is just a regular glass bottle and so plane. No significant depth or dramatic development of the scent, just like a suntan lotion. I remember that I bought this for ¥980 (roughly ten US dollars at the time) when I lived in Japan. Almost every single fragrance from Jeanne Arthes has a longevity issue, and the scent goes away in a couple of hours. This one lasts for four hours on my skin, and for the price, it’s understandable. Sillage is, however, relatively better than the other fragrances that are the same price point. I recently got the sixth bottle. I don’t want to live without it.

I had Sexy Coconut on my want list for a long time and could not find it. Then I finally did find it on Rakuten but it was something to the tune of $17 + $30 in shipping. Sorry Jeanne Arthes, but as much as I think you are a worthwhile brand, I won't pay that much for your stuff 'cause it sells in drugstores for like minus $20. Well, a few months after having taken it off my want list because I figured we weren't meant to be, I obtained a bottle in a swap. Good times. Sexy Coconut is, according to the bottle, pour Elle OR Lui. Oh boy. I would say yes, this could be for lui or elle. The opening is a bit weird with lots of black currant and bergamot. Then I start to smell a blend of coconut, iris and amber. Final drydown is a very pleasant, very true suntan lotion scent. I like it as an alternative to Coco Figue as the wheat and fig in Coco Figue make it a bit more abstract. This is pretty much what I thought Miami Glow and FCUK Friction would smell like before they let me down with all their fruity notes. I like how the iris remains throughout the fragrance. It comes off, to my nose, as a colder more rooty iris. Not the makeup/powder/lipstick sort of iris, but a smooth carroty iris butter.

Someone voted that this smells like Cuba Gold, but this is nowhere even close to that. Sexy Boy (the original) is the one that smells similar to Cuba Gold and Le Male. Sexy Coconut smells like Hawaiian Tropic suntan lotion. Sells for $10 here in Japan, along with every other Jeanne Arthes fragrance. It's been around for over a decade and survived discontinuation, so it must be a decent seller. Sexy Boy flankers come and go over the years, but this one's still here. I don't pick up all the notes listed above, just the vanilla and coconut. It's nothing special, but somewhat unique and must serve a purpose for some people. Such as those who want to feel like they're at the beach (even when it's winter and snowing outside). Unisex, as the box says "Pour Elle & Lui". However, I think this scent would be more for a woman, unless a guy wants to have that suntan oil scent on him.
