Chapter One

I sampled this fragrance blindly. I had never even heard of it before and did not know it existed at all. I was browsing about the fragrance area of Kohls, wanting to get something new but couldn't decide on what and the clearance area was calling my name. I was all together avoiding the celebrity fragrance area as I usually do, but this was sitting there in the clearance area so I figured "what the heck?". Luckily there was still a tester of this out, so I was able to sample it. I sprayed a card only, one sniff and immediately put it in my basket! After a solid 30 minutes of browsing and indecision, one sniff of this and I was sold. I did not expect this to smell this way based on the name Chapter 1, or the look of the bottle. Nor did I know anything at the time about Jennifer Aniston's fragrance line being mostly beachy, though I've learned a lot more about her line now here at Fragrantica. The scent on the card immediately brought to mind the end of the beautiful day at the beach. Like the way your skin smells after you've applied sunscreen and it's been warmed by the sun all day, and the salt air has also perfumed your hair, clothes and skin. On the card, I immediately get the tiare flower and definitely salt (yet that is not listed as a note). I also get some of the teak wood in the opening. However, there is a review below here by Albiretu that described smelling only "salt and pepper" on their skin with this fragrance. I definitely get that too, for about 30 minutes after initial spray. I didn't really notice it until after I read that review! I was afraid the scent would be spoiled for me, but thankfully, it's not because as I said only for about 30 minutes I definitely get the "salt and pepper" feel from this (only on my skin, not on clothing) but the pepper thankfully fades completely away for me. I am left with the salt, but it mimics a sea salt type of salt, and the tiare flower really blooms at this point, as does the musk and then I start to get some of the tonka bean and orange blossom. The teak wood I noticed on paper does not seem to come out on my skin, which truthfully is a relief because my skin sometimes turns up the volume on wood notes. I really do enjoy this scent, even though I have that 30 minute wait to stop smelling like condiments. But it's worth the wait! The longevity and sillage are so-so. Lasts about 2 hours on me then becomes a lightly musky, lightly floral skin scent, but very pleasant, and definitely it is not the traditional white floral skin scent due to the tiare flower. Lasts much longer on clothing, maybe about 6 hours. Sillage is light, only when someone is close to you or if a breeze comes by you will they smell it. But I don't mind, this scent is more for my own pleasure. It brings back very lovely summertime memories. ETA on 3/30/21: changed from “like” to “love”. Don’t know why, but I keep grabbing for this . I have nothing else like this, a very unique scent. It gets creamier and creamier as the day goes on and I just love it. And longevity on clothing is actually much longer than I first thought, about 10+ hours.

Mmmm! SO SO delicious! Cant stop smelling my arm! I listened to the reviews and blind bought it since I LOVE 3 of her other perfumes and I saw that its a dupe for the discontinued "in the sun" by B&BW, and well since Im Greek too I feel a connection to Greek celebrities lol. Her perfumes are so nostalgic and reminiscent of the sea or sunsets, something so calming and sweet about them. This is also another gem that takes you on a trip, esp if you live far from home (Greece) like I do, I need something to take my mind back home. It has that calming vibe of her J perfume. Very different from other celebrity scents. I love white florals, bergamot, anything orange and musk, and this is a great representative of an elegant white floral with a melancholy twist. I get the bergamot with the orange blossom that smell delicious and rich, the tuberose here is intense, almost as intense as in Montana 80; I also love the jasmine with the tonka bean esp after 10 mins I spray it, the pink pepper stays through the drydown too, theyre ALL at the right dosage in harmony. I like to categorize perfumes and also find the same intense notes in other perfumes that give a similar effect. So here I get the Teak Wood esp in the drydown, which im not generally crazy about but here it doesnt bother me at all. These two notes: the jasmine with the wood remind me of these notes in Sensuous Nude by Estee Lauder (sandalwood there), and surprisingly my nose didnt trick me, they do share some other ones: bergamot and pink pepper. The wood (and the tuberose) generally give that distinct pencil shavings smell I get from Sensuous Nude and Montana 80, but in Chapter One it is very very discreet. The tuberose with the pink pepper are loud here. This is way above Sensuous Nude tho and a different category, this is not powdery. Montana 80 containing tuberose, orange and wood gives that familiar vibe too. Tuberose lover here. Also kinda brings The One by D&G to my mind, the intoxicating yet calming effect; they share the bergamot and the jasmine, mandarin orange/orange blossom. Its that type of league ya know, but The One takes a different route with the vetiver, amber and the peach, nice, but overwhelming imo. This is perfectly balanced! I wish it lasted longer and had better silage cuz its B E A U T I F U L!

I was afraid of this because pink pepper goes hard on my skin and can overwhelm any other notes. Blind bought it anyway since the price was right, and was very pleasantly surprised. ✨ The pink pepper for me is happily non-existent. Just not there. ☺️ It's definitely a beachy scent, but with a mature and elegant feel--and later in the day, if that makes sense. Like coming in off the beach to watch a long sunset over drinks at an upscale beach cafe. It's less bright sun and hot sand, more evening breeze on sun-warmed skin. I get tiare, a hint of jasmine. Tuberose and tonka bean blend with the musk and wood for a sweet softness giving that late afternoon-into-twilight feel, when the sand is cooling off and bonfires are being lit. I see little candles shimmering on outdoor tables under white canopies, the sea air wafting through to mingle with the last remnants of luxury sunscreens. Flowy linen pants fluttering over soft leather sandals. Glasses of champagne & lemonade, their tiny bubbles catching the light of golden hour. It's really a beautiful scent that transports me and feels instantly soothing yet posh. Sillage is moderate. It's soft and safe, but will float on the breeze to those close by. Longevity is at least 7+ hours in warm temps, gradually softening to a skin scent around the 8-hr mark, to be enjoyed only by you (or someone touching you) as it fades away. 💕 The final drydown is slightly sweet and nutty, like walking past dry driftwood--maybe an unlit bonfire pile--and other tables with now-empty fruit trays as you leave for the night. Only traces left, subtle and soft, not sour. The scent really does linger and develop just enough to give the full experience, from lounge chair to table service to heading home for a peaceful sleep. As for value, the price cannot be beat. I've always been indifferent to dime-a-dozen celeb cents, but this one is a real gem and an absolute steal for the quality. Price says cheap, performance says niche. 💰 Got mine from Jomashop, another great buy from that vendor. Fall is my favorite time of year, but I'm actually sad now that summer is over and I'll have to wait until next year to get regular wear from this. Beautiful scent that I wish I'd found sooner.

WOW, this is a really beautiful fragrance!I just tested it out of curiosity because I have read good things about other JA perfumes without having tried any of them because they are not sold in my country. I have loved this fragrance from the very first moment. The first spritz is strange, different, but after a couple of minutes it opens up in all its glorious salty yumminess. In fact this is very much on the wave of several similar scents issued recently with this addictive concoction of salty vanilla, tonka beans, white flowers and coconut like Sun di Gioa or D&G Dolce Garden. This one is very particular, a little bit more unisex, VERY VERY close to Tom Ford's Soleil Blanc and Maison Margiela Beach Walk but without that "Coppertone" suntan lotion note that I don't really like. I think that it is wearable all over the year, also in the cold weather when your are longing for the sunny days on the beach and they seem still so far away. The tonka bean is deliciously sweet and the grapevine flower gives this aromatic fruitness similar to some Caudalie scents. I also smell some saltiness although I can't see this note in the pyramid. Sillage is low to moderate and longevity is medium. The bottle is interesting, something that in German you would call a Handschmeichler. It has this organic form without edges and angles like a drop or a pebble, it just feels good in the hand - and it is very practical to slip into my bag to carry around. Another positive surprise is how high quality it is: the top and the nozzle are made of brushed metal instead of cheap plastic (hello Chanel, I'm talking to you..!) This is one of those fragrances that the more I use the more I love.

Update: The PlayDoh/vitamin notes once this settles on my skin are intoxicating to me. I layer this with Tom Ford Soleil Blanc to stretch my dollars. Kohl's had a $5 coupon lying right by the Aniston fragrances, which was very nice and let me get the big bottle. The set is a steal but not all stores have it. I wonder if Jen made this to copy Tom Ford because I bet she might wear TF. === I went over to Kohl's especially for this, since Target no longer carries JA's line. Nice clean sheets/shampoo floral with the sparkling notes making it smell like a grown-up Love's Baby Soft, a good thing to me. This is a weekend scent, nothing too deep, but I find I keep smelling it on my sleeve from earlier today. Agree with longetivity comments. I slathered it on shamelessly and am not getting that much an hour later. I usually go for florientals but am now thinking of at least trying the 1 oz since there was a coupon for her fragrances right in the tester area. I am also getting a slight Play Doh note, which I really love and which makes me take notice a bit more than her other pleasant scents. Do you really think celebrities wear their own scents? I also agree with the Sun di Gioia comparison, just less coconut here and a tiny tad of woodiness on the ending.

The first time I wore Chapter One, I was surprised at its sweetness. That said, this is VERY easy-to-like summer-time fragrance. It cleverly manages to be relaxed and elegant at the same time! I would wear this anytime, anywhere, as long as the sun is out and creating some warmth in my environment. I will also touch on the Tom Ford Soleil Blanc discussion: while I agree with @FireFlySF that this is not a full dupe, there is enough similarity in vibe for me to double down on Chapter One and save my dollars from being greedily gobbled by team Tom Ford. I will also add my opinion on the packaging since it seems to be discussed a lot. I will become the minority here and say that I enjoy the shape of the bottle. It feels organic to me and while the other J. Aniston bottles evoke a wave (which I love), this one looks like a drop of water to me. I also noticed the cap is brushed metal, not plastic, and overall I think it feels more upscale than what I paid. Additionally, if you purchase the body mist, its packaging is a huge upgrade from previous J. Aniston body mists (points for opaque bottle and quality misting mechanism). Overall, I'm impressed and I will admit I already have a second bottle of this stashed so I can spray with abandon all summer.

This completely out did my expectations! I can't believe there is no coconut in this!😯 This is a total beachy style fragrance! 🤤 This fragrance is JUST BEAUTIFUL!!! I just really wish it lasted longer, if it did, it would be absolutely OUTSTANDING! The florals are done so softly, it kinda blows my mind. This is bright, and uplifting. It's musky, very creamy, and slightly woody. The woods in this fragrance are not masculine, dirty, or intense. It's like, an exotic woods. And, in my opinion? This is sooo SEXY! I can't get over just how beautiful this fragrance is. I only have 3 negative things to say about this fragrance though. Number 1, it doesn't last very long, number 2, It's not sold in any bigger bottles than a 1oz, and a 1.7oz. And lastly, there's not a matching body mist lol. Quality wise, This smells like a designer fragrance, and not a celebrity one. It's one of the best celebrity fragrances I've EVER tried. I actually bought three back up bottles because I want to shower myself in this fragrance, and I don't want to quickly run out🤣 I like it THAT MUCH! I'm not even a back up bottle kinda person, but this, this is back up bottle worthy.

This perfume is just great, like a rich warm cashmere blanket, this perfume smells more expensive than it is. I bought the gift set from Kohl's while it was on sale for $32, and also bought this as a gift for someone. I thought Luxe was great, but this is even better, to me Chapter One is her best perfume so far. I thought this was going to smell different, and be more floral than it is. The only thing I dislike is the opening with the pink pepper, but it goes away shortly. I feel out of all of her perfumes this is the safest one to gift. I think more people will like this perfume more than her others. I feel like this is her version of Cashmere Mist, but this has that creaminess to it, that Cashmere Mist doesn't have. Also reminds me of A Cheerful Giver Candle Cashmere, and Yankee Candle Warm Luxe Cashmere. I feel like some people write off celebrity perfume releases, just let me tell you this is one not to be missed, one of the more mature best celebrity perfume release in awhile. This perfume is relaxed, and comforting.

In one word: Ladylike. This one on me shows up very subtly. It’s definitely a skin scent and particularly it makes me think of a perfect work fragrance in the summertime. Just enough to smell fresh and clean, but won’t offend anyone. When I first sprayed, I got a suntan lotion scent that quickly reminded me of when you blow out a candle and that generic whiff you get for a second regardless of the candles’s intended scent. Know what I mean? But the real beauty in this one for me comes about an hour after spritz. Then it starts to smell much different. Still very close to the body. But it has transformed into a clean, soapy scent with a honey note. There is no honey listed but I get some, I’m sure. I would say this is beautiful and delicate. For casual events or work in the summer months, although it may be lovely in Autumn as well. Not what I’d choose if I was looking to be noticed. But a PERFECT fragrance if ladylike is what you are going for.

I had a rollerball of this I got for a very low price and I loved it. I kept it at my bedside and loved to use it at night just before bed. Unfortunately, one night it fell off of my nightstand and shattered. Ever since, I've wanted to find another bottle of this, but waited to find it for a fair price. I found a 1 ounce bottle at Burlington for a very good price, and I'm very much enjoying this scent once again. This is a soft, soapy, sunscreen-like scent that makes you think of the beach. Definitely white floral, but very soft. This isn't a powerbomb, but a close, intimate scent. Despite the softness of this scent, it lasts I'd say at least 4-6 hours. It gets very faint, but you still get a sweet whiff of it even long after it has dried down. I will be wearing this one very often, I can already tell.

Sweet warm floral but not sugar spun sickenly sweet. The magnolia is perfect. The Tonka plus the magnolia makes it cozy as almond. It’s creamy and a good replacement for Tom Ford Soleil Blanc minus the coconut which is perfect. I’m past my coconut phase and the cheap accord of coconut is played out. But this is a cozy cashmearan and floral. It does have a saltiness to it that is a little play-doh but it’s not a nuisance and that part fades. I wouldn’t say it’s a doll head smell. Doll head is more like VS Amber Romance. A cheaper option for this is Bath And Body Works In The Sun. It’s not as delicate but I own both and In The Sun (Summer scent limited edition) is also a TF SB comparison. It’s slightly more harsh in the the so the better quality is Chapter One.

I’ve never tried one of JA’s fragrances before as they never really intrigued me, but seeing this in the store for so cheap I figured it couldn’t hurt to try. I REALLY love this one. It’s subtle, soft, comforting and clean. I get a lot of pink pepper and bergamot at the beginning, the white florals are there but not too present to my nose. Almost like they’re shy and just saying hello. The end rounds out creamy and cozy with Tonka bean and teak wood really pulling through. I can see this being an early morning sunny day pick me up scent as well as one you opt for to unwind after a busy day. I picture this is what JA smells like in real life. This captures her carefully crafted aesthetic perfectly.

I’ve been looking for a somewhat more sophisticated summer fragrance that didn’t reek of coconut. I like coconut, just not at work. This STRONGLY reminds me of an old Avon fragrance called Tahitian Holiday minus the strong rubbery note. This one has a fleeting rubbery note but it’s not that strong or lingering. The spillage on this is amazing for a summery scent. It’s not overtly sunscreenish or like tanning oil but it has a touch of both to me. It seems like a warm fragrance like the beach but not overtly gourmand. I wish I had a better review but I think this is exactly what I’ve been looking for and the price isn’t bad either.

I just got the roller ball today as a blind buy and I love it! I put some on my wrist and a little on my shirt sleeve and I keep getting this beautiful whiff that smells similar to a spicier RALPH ROCKS which I LOVE but it's discontinued and I'd never pay what Ralph Rocks is going for on ebay now. It's weird because the only note they share is Orange Blossom but to my nose this smells like a spicy Ralph Rocks. It seems to have fairly low Sillage (which many prefer especially for office wear). I'll come back later to report Longevity. But so far, I really love this.

This scent is a bit faint but smells phenomenal. bought this for my wife but she is anosmic to it. Smells like sun tan lotion which I really enjoy. Perfect beach scent and a great cheap alternative to Tom Ford soleil blanc. Does not smell synthetic either although there is an alchohol blast on first whiff that dissipates quickly. P.S. I tried this side by side to Virgin Island Water. It matches the longevity and projection. JA1 is different in that it lacks rum and lime, and is sweeter than VIW.

Beautiful! Smells like dry driftwood and floral. Very hard to describe. I first got this in the summer and didn’t really like it, now I’m wearing it in the cold winter and I absolutely love it! Very unique, although I’ve never smelled the Tom Ford one it’s supposed to smell like. I’m very sad this is not readily available where I live, I picked it up as a once off on eBay so when it’s gone it’s gone :(

This smells soooo good! Tonka bean, musk, jasmine and tuberose! Just lovely! This would be an easy to wear every day scent, definitely could be a great signature scent. The bottle is a bit....meh. Boring. I wish it was a more classic shape! I will definitely purchase this when I can get my hands on a good deal!

Amazing fragrance for a good price. Smells like vacation close to the ocean, so happy, so Ula dancing. Longevity could be better but Sillage is really good for the first two hours. I will keep buying it.

Chapter One is the only perfume that makes me feel "Oh, I want to smell like this always!" every time I wear it.

The poor gal's Soleil Blanc? I'll take it! The woody notes come out nice and strong, along with the jasmine and tiare, and there's enough of the suntan-oil coconut accord to scratch that summertime itch. I can tell that the longevity and sillage won't be phenomenal, but considering I paid about $13 for this 30-ml bottle, I'm not going to complain. I would call this a light and creamy white floral with a dash of pepper over a coconut-woods base. More green than ripe-indolic; slightly salty and dry; an easy reach for a lazy sundress kind of afternoon and evening. I had a sample of Beyond Dusk or whatever that Jennifer Aniston perfume was called, and I searched for a full bottle to no avail (although I did find the body spray, which I gave to a friend). This reminds me of what I liked about that perfume, although the bottle is not as good--but still better than most because it reminds me ever so slightly of those wonderful Elsa Peretti bottles for Halston. Update: As predicted, the sillage, such as it is, doesn't go too far past a skin scent after the first hour, but it does stick around longer than expected as a skin scent. Also, there must surely be more notes than those listed on this page. I noticed when I did the Perfume Finder search on it, a bunch of other notes came up, including coconut (which I smell for sure) and patchouli (which I don't notice at all--the cedar wood smell must obliterate it, or perhaps the "vine" accord. This reminds me of a wispier, beachier Hypnotic Poison (I also could swear there is some almond in here) mixed with Near Dusk (the one that is inexplicably hard to find except in body spray or 1.5-ml sample size). I would recommend it to people who would like a beachier version of Hypnotic Poison or a much less expensive version of Soleil Blanc or a more demure version of Dua Cocolicious. It really does bring to mind the late lamented Sensuous Nude, too; I used to have a small bottle, used it up, and then discovered that it was discontinued. EL is inscrutable sometimes because Sensuous Nude was a LOT better than Bronze Goddess. Is it any wonder that their stock prices keep slipping? But I digress. I compared this with Beach Walk by Maison Margiela, and the primary difference to me was HOLY HELL THERE'S A LOT OF PINK PEPPER IN CHAPTER ONE. It's otherwise very similar to Beach Walk, only instead of yellow flowers there are mostly white flowers, and instead of coconut there are creamy tuberose and tonka bean. The woods are a nice touch, and I like the little fillip of dryness that they confer in the base. I do get a slightly plasticky aspect, but it doesn't bother me--it just reminds me of the sunscreen smell, which is often a bit plasticky because it's in the plastic Coppertone or Bain de Soleil bottle or tube.

Howdy, Perfumites. Another Jennifer Aniston perfumes because I'll always respect her for the "Jennifer Aniston" (?also "Lolavie, I believe in some regions) perfume. That sh*t is my jam. She doesn't always I deliver, I must confess. The "J" perfume (blue bottle) is a big, ol' confused synthetic musky, saccharine sweet mess of a thing. But they can't all be gems, can they? This is in the middle for me. It is a great beachy scent, but you've smelled this before. Those who say this is similar to "Beach Walk" by MM are absolutely correct. Sadly, BW is better (and sad for my wallet). This has a dry, scratchiness that isn't so pleasant during inhalation. And those of you who say this is similar to Tom Ford's "Soleil Blanc"...may be right? I wouldn't know. I refuse to allow myself to sniff it in case I love it and decide to empty my bank account to pay retail price for TF fragrances. #notgonnahappen HOWEVER, if a sliiiight scratchy/interpret-as-cheaper element doesn't bother you - go for this. Clearly I did because I have a bottle and wear it. I mean, go for this regardless because those TF prices are basically legalised robbery. No, not over it just yet. I like the bottle. A slightly unique take on a standard bottle shape. It actually has very decent sillage. I can smell this for 3-4 hours quite strongly. Longevity is eh - not bad, not great. I WILL admit my favourite of the three is "Beach Walk". There is an element of Heaven in that scent. It's almost identical to Giorgio Armani's "Sun di Gioia" which is also divine, but - alas - discontinued. Returning back to Chapter One. I do declare it is summery and definitely very beachy Distinguishable notes (to me): - Pink pepper (assuming that's the sharp/scratchy scent I'm getting) - Tiare flower (the tropical, coconut-esque note) - Tuberose (heady white floral note) - Musk (Warm, cozy note) - Tonka bean (Warm, sweet note) *** Kitty rating: 7/10.

a curious, salt and pepper white floral over a clean downy musk. This smells like luxuriating at home after an active day by the sea. You’ve shed your bathing suit and beach clothes and thrown on a soft clean lounging dress and light cardigan and you’re savouring the smell of the beach all over yourself for a few hours before you finally shower and go to bed.The longer you wear it the sweeter the florals become as the salt/pepper effect fades and the musk and wood let their hair down. Personally I find this to be an ideal at home on the couch with a book and a candle scent. Cuddly and comforting but it doesn’t get boring or lull you to sleep. It’s a good procrastinating scent, dinner might still need to be made and you still need to wash the seawater off your skin before going to bed but that can all come later after another chapter or another episode. Brings to mind the beach (of course), late afternoon, clean beige paper, cashmere, milky white candles and a soft breeze playing with cream curtains. Projection is mild, it’s quite a close scent. Casually sexy, but feels more like a scent for yourself than anyone else. Longevity isn’t amazing but it’s still there on your skin after a few hours only you may need to inhale a bit deeper to find it. Very understated but very intriguing at the same time. The kind of scent you keep sniffing to try and understand. This was my first JA fragrance and a blind buy and I was pleased with her departure from the typical fruity florals that dominate celebrity fragrances. She has a firm grasp on her brand and her aesthetic and it shows in all of her fragrances, the concepts are strong and the scents are comforting and lovely. This could definitely get compliments but personally I’m putting it on the “around the house/bedtime” end of my shelf and will likely reach for it whenever I reach for a good book.

Someone here said that this is like Beach Walk and Tom Ford's Soleil Blanc and I definitely get that. I have Tom Ford's Soleil Blanc on the back of my right hand and Chapter One on the back of my left hand and Beachwalk on the crook of my arm, and while there are differences between them all, they also have a lot of similarities. SB is a little citrusy at the top and a little sweeter and CO has a touch of pepper blending with the bergamot adding a spicy element. While they all share many of the same notes, this lacks the coconut of both, but I could never smell that in those fragrances anyway. The lack here doesn't stop this from having the same beachy feel though. The green notes sets this a little apart by adding a fresh crispness, and the teak, which I'm really loving here, makes me think of the smell of teak patio furniture that has spent some time at the beach and the wood has absorb the surrounding atmosphere of sand, salt, and the sea. Performance wise, it has much better silage than the two mentioned scents, though they beat out CO in the longevity department. But since the price of a bottle is a fraction of the price of either SB or BW it's super affordable to spray away to obtain a similar feel. I can even see this being further enhanced with a little shot of vanilla or coconut - maybe both. I'm going to try that too. Anniston makes good smelling fragrances at reasonable prices. Seems this is her answer to those expensive beachy perfumes that not everyone can afford, and I think that's great. The longer this wears on, the more I think that Anniston should have called this Beachscape instead of the other perfume in her line by that name as that doesn't make me think of the beach, but this sure does.

Beautifully blended. I have to hand it to Jennifer Aniston. I've said it before in other reviews of her perfumes and I'll say it again. Her fragrance line is SO well representative of her. I swear that every single one of her perfumes...I can actually see her wearing. A rarity in perfumery with these celebrities. I think I can speak for all of us that there's tons of celebs out there that we are pretty sure had NOTHING to do with the process or scents they release. They just sign the deals with the dollar amount on them and let the perfumers run wild with it and slap their name and photo on it. But not Jen's. I swear these scents are ALL her personality. Classy and clean is pretty much how I would describe ALL of them. This one is a balsamic white floral with the musk contributing as well and after a few minutes there's an outstanding playdough note which oddly enough...doesn't ruin it. I love it. It's semi simple. Not a complicated scent. But it's beautiful and easy to wear. Most definitely will please most floral lovers out there. This is just so beautiful to spray on after a shower. Right over clean, dry skin. Performance most definitely isn't anything to complain about either. Longevity - About 5 hours. Projection - About 2 and a half feet. I have the perfume of this plus the roller ball and am considering buying two of the candles for my living room coffee table. This would be such a beautiful scent for a living room in the spring time. Just a recommendation of mine.

Well well, this one is a quiet little gem. This is not a fragrance type I usually gravitate towards, I like my fragrances deep and powerful but lately I had been craving something softer and warmer for the summer. I came across Chapter One by chance and, after skimming the reviews, I purchased it. It really is lovely. It has that light sunscreeny type summer vibe. It does remind me of Tom Ford's Soleil Blanc (which I really like but would never spend that kind of money on, especially as it doesn't last on me). I think this is a safe scent for any occasion. It isn't going to offend anyone but it is warm, clean and comforting. Almost like that's just how your skin smells, or like you've applied some gorgeous body lotion. I will say that I got over excited one day and, in my efforts to make it project more, I oversprayed. Don't do this! It isn't going to be a projection beast, no matter how much you spray! All that happened with me was that it started to smell cheap and chemical. Yuck. I find if I spray lightly and accept that this is a quieter scent than I am used to, I get subtle but gorgeous whafts for several hours. I also really like the bottle. I think it fits the juice perfectly. It's very organic, like it could be a pebble from the beach or something. It feels lovely to hold and it isn't tacky at all. I got the little one and it's great to throw in my bag. I am not usually a fan of celebrity scents as my skin does seem to amplify the synthetic, chemical notes but this one is definitely an exception. I love it and think I will get a lot of use out of it.

This perfume was a blind buy. I purchased this fragrance on Valentine's Day for a very nice price. I have Jennifer Aniston's Beachscape already in my collection, which I love, so I decided to explore more fragrances from this house. To my nose, Chapter One is coconutty, tropical, and musky. An inoffensive fragrance that can be worn to most daytime activities. I am not getting ANY of the notes listed above, except for the musk. If you are a stickler for notes, this fragrance would not be for you, otherwise, I would deem Chapter One as a safe blind buy. It wears more as a longer lasting body mist rather than a eau de perfume. It has minimal longevity and sillage, but is very pleasant smelling with "pick-me-up" qualities. This would be a great fragrance to layer with and, I'm sure, a nice choice as the weather warms.

Snagged this up for less than $10 at Burlington and I’m really liking it. Visually, it reminds me of a late afternoon/early evening stroll on a beach of some non-touristy town on the southern east coast (I envision somewhere on the Carolina coast) while wearing a crisp white linen shirt or an eyelet dress. I don’t get sunscreen or coconut like most “beachy” scents, but instead I’d describe this as really soft woods with some light, breezy florals. Also, I’d describe this as clean but not in a green/fresh kind of way, as whatever citrus notes are present fade away on my skin. This would be an ideal every day summer scent. Longevity and sillage aren’t the best on me at 2 sprays but for the price I can afford to use more next time!

I first tried this during a cold spring, and it was just okay. It was subtle, a bit beachy and cold. It was a skin scent with the woody-musk base notes lingering for hours. I didn't understand the love for this perfume. Today, it is 100 F, and the perfume is radiating and glowing! It needs heat to shine. The top notes are a whisper of pink pepper. It falls into sweet tuberose, jasmine, and tiare. There is some lotion-y creaminess. The vine and teak wood keep the tonka from being too sweet. The musk helps the notes blend together. I am glad I kept my bottle. It does remind me of a simplified, softer version of Beach Walk. If Soleil Blanc is overwhelming, this may be a good cheapie alternative for a skin + suntan lotion perfume.

The first time I tried it, I enthusiastically found it to be very close to TF Soleil Blanc and Vacances Liquide by Memoire Liquide. Chapter One was a tropical tiare/coconut/musk summery fragrance, and it brought summery vacations to mind. The subsequent times I wore it though, still in the hot and humid Southern summer, it’s a mainly powdery tropical floral. All the previous notes are there, but above all a kinda violet-powdery tone dominates. It gives a serious/melancholic tone to the otherwise carefree fragrance, making it a bit more grownup feeling. I’m not crazy about powder, but I don’t dislike it either in this context. Probably won’t repurchase.

Oceanic vibe, salty beach-y. If you close your eyes, the smell of the ocean breeze is so clear that you can imagine laying on a beach towel slathering coconut tropical suntan lotion on! This is stronger than Solstice Bloom - but still comes across as natural, low key, casual, appropriate for many different occasions. I will still continue to sample this and check both Solstice Bloom and First Chapter out. I think Jennifer is ONTO Something with both of these. This would fill a gap in a lot of people's fragrance wardrobes.

The thing I really like about Chapter One is its consistency: I get the same immediate smell [bergamot, pink pepper, vine, teakwood] and dry down [now teakwood, tonka bean step forward] regardless of if sprayed on skin or on clothes. This is best for daily/casual wear and layers well with other scented lotions, particularly those with bergamot or neroli (eg, Bath & Body Works "Awakening Sun"). Accept the fact that the sillage isn't strong and don't be tempted to overspray or you'll ruin this beauty!

Wow surprised this is really nice! Wish it was a bit stronger but it’s a great bedtime or office scent it does have a beachy vibe but it’s not a sunscreen scent. And it’s super affordable I do smell the pepper immediately and the rest is kind of mixed up! But this being my first real “beach” scent I’m digging it! But I need more ! More of everything and stronger. The initial spray is so wonderful just wish it lasted and stayed that way. Fades too quickly :(

Found this perfume on eBay. I bought it because I was told that it smells like Victoria Secret Dream Angels Halo. There is something very similar to it. This was the only Dream Angels I ever liked - Halo. It's a very pretty scent and yes, for those out there missing Halo, this one is pretty close. I wish it was easier to find. Chapter One is only on eBay. I guess I will save this for nostalgic moments. NOTE- not like Soliel Blanc...not to my nose.

Amazing for a celeb cheapie!! And yes I would say save your money on soleil blanc dupes m. This one is close to beach walk and soleil blanc! Wished it lasted longer! But that’s what everyone says about soleil blanc! And I only spent like $17! Sexy summer night perfume or fall. I had to come back and say more lol I bought two more bottle! This is amazing and a DUPE!!

For anybody who loves the discontinued Sensuous Nude, this isn’t an exact duplicate but it is very close and very inexpensive. The main difference is in the dry down. That’s more like Replica Beach Walk and then by the time the scent fades, it reminds me of Loves Babysoft.

Got this one for like $18 on eBay because I heard it’s very similar to Victoria’s Secret Dream Angels Halo that I used to wear back in high school. It really does smell similar. All the nostalgia. 😍

One of the best aquatic/ floral exotic scents. Doesn't smell like those celebrities sweet crap. This is very sophisticated. This can easily be a summer staple for everyone.

V nice, v TF EDSB, less creamy, more perfume-y, with a more prominent orange blossom, & a slightly 'soapy' quality - a la JA, but still beachy, & 'Californian' - & definitely far more classy than all her other perfumes - this does smell luxe - amazingly. (Her others aren't bad actually, far from it) - am just saying, this really does hv 'luxe' aspirations. & I really do like it a lot, I should say - but oh, the longevity is appalling - even carrying it with me it's longevity on skin is terrible - certainly no more than an hour or so - mind TF EDSB didn't last 2hrs on me, on skin, so there we are - & ofc, I almost always use lotion to prolong, & didn't with that the first time - but with this - use a rich lotion. (I should try it over Musk Malawi, but I hv a feeling they wouldn't gel.) Nothing particularly musky about this one - maybe a little, but in this, it has a slightly 'thick' orange blossom, perfume-y quality - which ofc, TF EDSM doesn't hv. I feel, the TF is just very slightly more 'modern' if that makes sense, although this is by no means dated - it's just slightly more 'perfume-y' to me. I like it, though; I honestly really like it - & this, layered with Demeter Pistachio is lovely, & probably better than TF EDSB - those 2 together, are wonderful- but you wd hv to spray it at least every 2hrs, more like every hour, on skin, slightly more longevity on fabric, but not that much - so that means carrying both bottles, which I suppose in daytime might be ok if you have a huge bag with you - but the respraying cd get to be tiresome. I could only find 30ml btls of this - it had clearly been & gone - totally missed by my radar (both in Europe of East Asia, I hadn't seen it, until ppl on here spoke of it,) & so I found it on Frag X, at not cheap, eventually. Bc I liked it & bought several, I thought it might be a good one - but I hardly ever wear it outside of my home bc it just wd not be practical during to wear time - which is a shame bc it's lovely. (I bought 1 x 30ml initially, but didn't wear test properly before I bought more, another 3x 30ml, bc I wd usuallyordera large bottle - but, to me - Kate Spade Live Colourfully is truly the best of the huge variety of 'in the style of' TF EDSB perfumes that I hv found, & it does hv good lastingpower, comparably. (I liked that one -TF EDSM - & loved the description of the notes - but it wasn't as good as it was hyped, it certainly wasn't the pistachio gorgeousness I had hoped for, so I was quite disappointed - & so went on a search for a better version.) I have 3 x 30ml unopened btls of this - if anybody wants to try this, & cannot find it (for swap, or buy, whatever,) - but it's just not practical for me - 3 to 4 hrs would maybe be ok - espc for something light - yet this does hv more substance than many lighter perfumes - it's quite 'thick' when you first spray - but somehow it just fairly rapidly 'disappears' from your skin - which makes it a bit annoying. Ppl who only spray on clothes wd probably do far better with it. V pretty perfume though, smells so luxurious, & very Tom Ford-esq for however long it lasts - so is an alternative for TF - & you may pick it up for peanuts in the US - certainly much less than I paid for it - mine were, ouf, it worked out about £64 per 90ml, in the 30ml bottles I bought - which wouldn't be a bad deal if there was 3hrs lasting power, but as said,, if you spray on clothes, maybe - myself, I like to spray on skin, bc most perfume notes develop better that way - more rounded. The scent profile of this, is v nice though, & it does smell surprising luxe, in the first 10 mins. Like the bottle & it's simplicity & lack of lettering etc - the 30ml bottles are perfect for in your bag, actually - the packaging on this is v nice - whoever made this has a great nose for scent profile, can only think that it being a celeb perfume is the problem - shame, bc I think JA has a following whereby she cd hv charged more - ofc this wasn't cheap, shipping it from the US for me - but I think ppl who like her/follow her wd pay more for it, if it lasted - & truly was a more luxe pfme - as it seems to be - mid range designer price with lasting power & this wd be excellent. I am looking at JA's Chapter 2, but wonder if it's too woodsy or heavy - & the lasting power definitely bothers me - but woodsy notes tend to stay longer on the skin, so it cd be ok - not that that type of perfume is my thing - but she seems to offer something way beyond most celeb perfumes - this at first seems to smell so luxe, compared to any other celeb perfume offering; mostly I wdnt hv bothered bc I rarely like celeb perfumes but this was something I bought bc at sniff/1p mins in - it's v good.

I'm bummed because the notes for this perfume made it seem right up my alley: I LOVE pink pepper and white florals. But this fragrance is much sweeter, warmer and heavier than I was expecting. I do not get any of the freshness or spiciness I thought I would get based on the notes. It reminds me of Alien Hypersense by Mugler and would suit winter best, I think. I have to assume it's the tonka and tiare flower that make this perfume feel so sweet and heavy to me. It has good sillage--I sprayed one spray on my left wrist, and it was all I could smell, overpowering the 3-4 sprays of a different perfume on my torso. Since it's discontinued, it's very hard to find anything bigger than a 30 ml--few 50 ml bottles are available now secondhand.

This is a really nice, affordable perfume. It’s really feminine, floral, ever-so-slight coconut, dewy, and a very light powder note. I can mostly smell the jasmine, and tiara flower. It’s definitely a beachy scent. I can see the similarities of this, and Beach Walk, but this is much better. There is no screechy sunscreen scent to this perfume. I would MUCH PREFER this over Beach Walk; it smells better, lasts longer, and the price is better. So if you’re in the market for a good, feminine, pretty floral, beachy, summertime perfume, I would definitely recommend this. It’s one of those easy, feminine, can’t go wrong scents.

Too faint and fleeting for my tastes. I think it only lasts an hour or so, if that. Doesn't even become a skin scent. I'm shocked this is compared to Soleil Blanc, simply because of how poorly it preforms. This is a simple, beachy fragrance that smells nice (salty, powdery, tropical) but just entirely lacks performance. Probably good for the gym. For the price, can I really argue about anything here? 5/10

This is an enjoyable beach fragrance that is a great dupe for Soleil Blanc by Tom Ford. I find this is a skin scent, the same as Soleil Blanc, but when you compare the price you don’t feel bad about over spraying this one to get it a little stronger. It’s very pretty, feminine and soft. Perfect for chilled out summertime days. It’s office friendly and I would say it’s fairly safe to blind buy also.

It's like a soft Beach Walk with tonnes of pink pepper...and yes, right in the base is a scent much like play doh. It's pleasant enough. If I had tested this, I wouldn't have personally bought it but it was a gift. I'll wear it until it's finished.

This was like a pre-school book without chapters for me. I got "Chapter One" as a blind buy for multiple reasons: 1. The Tiaré flower, Orange Blossom, and Jasmine (which I don't even detect in here) 2. Jennifer's self titled perfume (also called Lolavie?) is so pretty I had high hopes 3. Some reviewers feel it smells like Eau de Soleil Blanc or Replica's Beach Walk, both of which I love (unfortunately, I don't smell the similarities, at all) Sadly, I get nothing beachy from this. What I do smell is Play Doh. And the more it dries down, the more is smells like Play Doh on me. A nostalgic scent, to be sure. But not the aroma I want to project.

Really loved the notes listed and was excited to try the fragrance. I couldn't find a tester so I blind-bought a bottle. Huge regrets. Smells like expired suncreen and gives me the most nauseating headache. Luckily the fragrance wasn't expensive so I will likely just give it to a friend :(

Why do almost all celebrity scents have this WEIRD after scent. I swear it's in every. single. one. of them! It's nice, but very light and I definitely wouldn't reach for it. Glad my 30ml was only $8.95. Just going to give it away! Chapter Two is WAY better!

I blind bought this awhile ago after hearing some good reviews, and it didn’t disappoint! In fact, it’s one of my most successful and poorly researched blind buys ever. For me, this is mostly a warm sexy summer floral that almost smells like it has a touch of sunscreen/coconut in it, but it doesn’t. I actually somehow owned/wore this a lot before ever smelling Soleil Blanc, and kept questioning, how doesn’t this have coconut? It smells so much like a bouquet of summer flowers the beach - a rich womans on an exclusive beach. The first time I tested SB, I thought, “oh there’s the coconut! This is Chapter One with coconut.” If you aren’t trying to recreate Soleil Blanc on a budget, I must say on its own this fragrance is divine. The floral blend smells very expensive, warm, sexy. The moment I received a bottle I immediately ordered 3 more (they are small, 1oz, and cost about $12-13 ea.) It doesn’t project the best or last forever, but it’s not terrible. I’d say arms reach silliage for 2-4 hrs, with a few more hrs of dry down. It reapplies nicely, it’s hard to overspray this scent as it never turns sour, cloying, or chokes me out. I’ve definitely bathed myself in this scent many times and the usual reaction is a look of surprise, followed by an "oh my god you smell amazing!" I feel the bergamot peppery opening is gentle, I don’t get any distinctive teak or vine, it’s all about the orange flower, tuberose, tiare, and jasmine. I guess the other notes just balance out the florals. To me, this is all about the florals. I think the orange flower gives it a unique zest that makes this scent special. If you’re looking for the florals of Soleil Blanc in a bottle without coconut or sunscreen, try this. Try it anyway, it’s one of the best inexpensive fragrances I’ve ever come across, and it definitely smells like it costs a lot more than it does. And if you are trying to recreate Soleil Blanc, spritz this over Coco du Yemen. It’s practically indistinguishable from SB to my nose and lasts longer than SB, because somehow layering those two makes this last a couple hours longer on my skin. I didn’t buy this scent for the celebrity but somehow this has hooked me enough to want it for a regular part of my collection.

Discovered, Sampled, and Purchased this fragrance all in about 15 minutes... I found out about this new scent by Jenn in a magazine interview in September. Been looking forward to it ever since. It FINALLY launched at Kohl's here in the US this week. My NEW favorite Jennifer Aniston fragrance, and I adore every one she's released—and own them ALL! But "CHAPTER ONE" is like a whole new direction Jenn is taking for her scents. New bottle is sleek & simple (reminds me of JLo's Glow bottles)...YES the scent is beachy-tropical-cali themed, BUT "C 1" is actually very different, and in an AHH-mazing way. The scent actually reminds me of these old "Hollister So Cal" frags I used to wear...it's like them, but way better. "CHAPTER ONE" is the first official product launch in Jennifer Aniston's new partnership with Kohl's which will exclusively carry her upcoming lifestyle brand (much like the JLo Kohl's Collection)...and I'm totally here for this new Jennifer Aniston Kohl's brand. SOOO what I got was the "Chapter One" 3-piece giftset which includes 1.7EDP, Rollerball, and Home & Body Spray, and I also separately 1fl.ozEDP, and got a "Chapter One" scent candle as a free gift with purchase. I literally HAD to have it all...I kinda fell in love upon first sniff with this perfume. That doesn't happen often anymore. Everyone should at least give this a shot, especially if you have ever liked any of Jenn's other scents. I literally LOVE this fragrance, and Jenn did a fabulous job with this beauty. Thank you JENNIFER ANISTON & Kohl's...."Chapter One" is #1 ! ! !

Jen previously created one of the best ‘celebrity’ fragrances of all time in my opinion with her first fragrance aka Lolavie. Lolavie smells high end and is a great dupe of the expensive and celebrity loved Child by Susan Owens. I was very impressed and surprised it wasn’t a bigger seller as it’s just fantastic and very rich. Ther flankers weren’t as good but still a nice addition. Chapter One on the other hand is a very different direction. It shares that ‘clean’ line smell that she has to a lot of her fragrances, although this is more floral and musky than anticipated. The tuberose and musk are prominent, as is the tonka bean. If you like musky tuberose fragrances with a resinous base you will like this. I will say though the bottle is surprisingly.. not very pretty. It is shaped like an internal body part and lack of labeling makes it look a bit generic and like a non descript refillable bottle. But a lot of good fragrances come in not the best packages, and vice versa. Give it a try, I’m going to keep wearing it and will update if my thoughts change.

Back in the day (when Victoria’s Secret Beauty was plentiful in fragrance options) I wore Dream Angels Halo. They’ve discontinued so many good scents over the years and we’re left with Bombshell flankers that are becoming indistinguishable. I’ve tried several replication houses to get this scent back to no avail. I was reading through the similar scents for Halo on Fragrantica and came across this. It was $18 on FragranceNet so I decided to give it a try. It was like stepping back in time, in a good way. It smells almost identical and I’m so happy. The fragrance is bright and fresh and floral. It’s feminine and clean. This is a perfect everyday scent. I hope I can at least always find this one. Thank you to the person who even made the comparison in the first place. You’ve made me so happy!
